Spring is on the way!! After a long and hard winter, spring gives us all something to look forward to. With that being said, we all know that our lawns have taken a beating after this winter. But there is new help in town for our lawns; Twisted Pine Lawn & Tree Care.

Twisted Pine Lawn & Tree Care is a Colorado lawn service, owned by, Kevin Hubbard of Mead. He started Twisted Pine Lawn & Tree Care in the summer of 2012 after acquiring ten years in the business. MEAD MAYOR REPORT z As I sit down to write this column I am encouraged that, as of this date, ten individuals have requested petitions to run for election as both Mayor and town trustee. I am encouraged because these folks are stepping up to provide to the town and its constituents their thoughts, time, efforts and future thinking for our wonderful community. April 1st is election day and the polls will be open at the Mead Middle School, or you can vote by absentee ballot if you have requested one. I sincerely urge you to consider the qualifications of each of the candidates, their character, their realistic thoughts on the future of our town and if you believe you want them in a leadership role for the next four years. z Calendar time: The Spring clean up has been scheduled for April 25 and 26 at the Mead ponds. Also, the Mead Easter Egg Hunt will be held on April 19 BUT will be held at Founders Park due to the renovations of Town Hall. Many of you have asked about the renovations and I definitely know that the town staff, fire district and all of our residents are anxiously watching the construction and when they can move back into the new quarters. In a meeting with the engineers and construction firm the other evening we were given a move in date of July (this year) and an analysis that we are under budget. z What would the Spring be like without the likes of continuing to develop the town’s infrastructure ! Your Board is working on final plans for the trail that will extend from Welker Avenue to Adams Avenue and have it meander instead of being just a straight path. This will be an eight foot wide path out of concrete so we can keep it clean for all seasons. We are also going over plans for the capability to improve the water flows to the downtown area and assure there is a continuous loop in case of a water main break. Plans are also being worked on for the expansion of Welker Avenue from Third Street going west to WCR 5 as well as the now very busy intersection of Welker and Third Street. If you haven’t noticed there are two new donated benches around the downtown Mead welcome sign.

Thank you to the donors for this wonderful amenity. And as the Spring snow storms keep coming, so do pot holes.

Our Public Works department is working diligently to keep up with them but if you see a new one, please let them know so they can repair it. z As you know, Mead is “Open For Business” and as such I would like to welcome six new enterprises that have joined us. Those businesses are Colorado Drywall Supply, Environmental Noise Control, J.A.R. Concrete, Jeepers LLC, Next Generation Environmental and Construction, and Route 66 Restaurant Equipment. Welcome aboard. z As always you are welcome to come to your Town Board’s semimonthly meeting to give us your input on how we can improve the best town on the front range to live, work, play and raise a family. If you can’t make one of our meetings, then please either give me a call, send me an email, or talk to one of your elected Trustees. We are always willing to meet you for a cup of coffee if you desire. My name is Debra Brodhead, but most people call me Debbie. A lot of people still remember me by my married name of Debbie Hegwood . Some people still call me that and I don't mind. I am running for a Trustee position on the Board of Trustees for the Town of Mead. I moved with my parents, Milton and Rosina, and brother, Stephan, to Colorado in 1973, when my dad retired from the USAF. I graduated from Longmont High School, got married, and had my son, Shawn. I have 2 wonderful stepdaughters, Andrea and Kendra, and 6 grandchildren ranging from 10 months old to 21. I have lived in and around Mead starting in 1977, but my continuous residence started in 1984. I live in the older part of Mead and have seen all of the growth around the area going back as far as 1973. I was a prior Trustee from 1993-1998 and then again from 2004-2012. I have worked for Weld County Sheriff's Office as the Office Technician at the Del Camino SW Substation for 11 1/2 years and prior to that I was the Utility Billing and Building Permit Clerk for the Town of Mead. I am one of the Directors on the Mountain View Fire Protection District and the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers board. I work with a great group of people in both of these boards, which works to help the citizens in our area. I am also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which has helped me learn about some of my ancestors and to meet monthly with a great group of ladies. I believe with all the boards and groups I belong to I have gained a wide variety of experience and knowledge. I hope everyone is able to vote for their favorite candidate on April 1, 2014. The polling place is at the Mead Middle School or you can request an absentee ballot from the Town hall. As Mayor, I am committed to fostering responsible growth management, preserving our quality of life, and fiscally responsible leadership. The Board must balance the interests of all property owners, residents, businesses, and the County.

Mead is a small community. Like many of you, that is one of the reasons we chose Mead in which to raise our family. Land use, property values, air quality, infrastructure and facility maintenance, and budget policies affect all of us. Many of the challenges we face today stem directly from managing growth and subsequent maintenance requirements throughout the Town.

Looking beyond our borders, we must do a better job of interacting with neighboring municipalities, the county, and the state to better coordinate planning and management of the rapidly expanding growth at our doorstep.

My experience includes serving on the Board of Trustees for the Town of Mead, including service as Mayor Pro Tem. I also served as one of the Town of Mead’s Planning and Zoning

Commissioners. I am serving on the Board of Directors for United Power and on the Board of Directors for the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). I have served as a Policy Setting Committee Member with the Colorado Municipal League, and on the Transportation and Air Quality Planning Councils for the Upper Front Range and North Front Range of Colorado. I am also a member of the Colorado Women in Government Committee. I have completed the Colorado Municipal League’s Elected Officials’ Training and the Advanced Training Programs along with the NRECA’s Credential Cooperative Director Training Program.

I have been a homeowner in Mead since 1995. Together with my husband Jeff we have two wonderful children, Zack and Bailey. I attended the University of Northern Colorado, and have worked in e-commerce, senior health care/hospice, and as a Real Estate Appraiser specializing in Weld County properties. I am also a dedicated volunteer fundraiser for The Children’s Hospital Foundation and The Children’s Miracle Network.

Her concern for Mead and its future interested her so in 2012 Debra ran for election and was voted in as a new member to the Board of Trustee. Debra clinched a two year term and is now seeking re-election to continue serving the residents of Mead.

Debra’s family consists of educators, doctors, police officers and former oil industry workers. If you have concerns about what is going on in Mead…help re-elect her to the Board of Trustees. She is all about family and community and plans to do what is right for the residents of Mead.

Mead town resident Debra E Bancroft is running for re-election to the Board of Trustees. On April 1, 2014 registered voters in the Town of Mead will elect three new Trustees and a new mayor.

In 2007 Debra retired from work as a High School Secretary after 18 years of service in Antioch, CA. While living in Antioch she filled her time raising two children and volunteering in her children’s schools as PTA President, Newsletter Editor and Secretary. Both Debra and her husband, David, fell in love with the Town of Mead and decided to make it their home in retirement.

Retirement is not really a word that she uses lightly as she is active with her own businesses as well as volunteering in the community.

I am campaigning for a position on the board of trustees for the town of Mead. My name is Jody Orback, I have lived in the town of Mead for 6+ years, in the Liberty Ranch subdivision, with my husband Roy and 3 little spoiled dogs.

I have worked for various police departments, working as a certified records technician. I came out of retirement and went back to work part time for the Longmont Police Department, as a records technician. I volunteer for various activities. I have been a victim’s advocate for 15 years and am now with the Longmont Police department as an advocate.

I serve as a CASA (court appointed special advocate for abused/ neglected children) for Weld County. I am also on the psychological first aid team for the Longmont United Hospital. We provide survivors of disaster events support during their emotional and psychological stress.

I am also trained as a volunteer for NOVA (National Community Crisis Response Team) thru the National Organization for Victim Assistance.

I served on the town of Platteville’s board for 6 years. While serving I helped with the IGA, and comprehensive plan for the town. I

Herman Schranz for Trustee

Mead resident Herman Schranz is running for Mead Town Trustee in the April 1, 2014 election. Herman moved to Colorado in 1978 from California. He lived many years in Longmont prior to moving to Mead.

Since moving to Mead, Herman has contributed significantly to his community by serving as president of his HOA, becoming a dedicated member of the Mead Planning Commission, participating actively on the police task force, and coaching Mead Elementary-age softball and basketball teams. Herman has met with many of Mead’s community leaders, including other area HOA presidents, in an effort to improve and prepare Mead for a thriving future. Among other successes, Herman has owned and operated a business of his own, and had an extensive and successful professional career with over 40 years’ of leadership and management experience. He wants to share the forward thinking and visionary skills developed over his career with the community he cares for very much. By seeking a position on the Town Board Herman feels he can provide the insight and experience needed to guide Mead’s future. It is always a pleasure to give back to this great community in a positive and constructive way.

Infrastructure A major goal is to insure that as Mead grows, it remains a safe and a prepared

community. We can prepare Mead for the future by taking a proactive role in the improvement of police, fire, medical and education infrastructure.

Economic Development Prosperous businesses in Mead benefit the entire community. Mead leadership must work closely with small businesses to develop and maintain solid relationships which will help their businesses succeed and, in turn, attract essential businesses to the community.

Communication It is tremendously vital to inform the community of future issues. Herman hopes to improve communications with the community through quarterly town hall meetings. For local flow of information, ensure the “Mead Messenger,” encompasses all community activities and meetings, Also, improving Mead’s web site to be more functional and have it interact with social media.

The Grand Opening for our expanded tasting room is March 8, 2014 from 3pm to 7pm. “Steel Pennies”, a bluegrass band, will be playing. The food truck will be provided by “Heirloom Trucks” and will be serving from 3:30 to 6:30.

We will be serving cocktails and will have water and pop available. For those who are interested we will be giving a distillery tour at 5pm. Stop in and see what’s new at the distillery!! The address is 13710 Deere Court.

Mead Rotary

The Seniors have the following monthly field trips and activities, scheduled by Barbara Currie, the Senior Coordinator for the Town of Mead.

The Seniors exercise class meets on Monday's and Wednesday's from 9:00a.m. to 9:45a.m. at the Town Hall.

Senior Lunch is held weekly at noon on Thursday at Town Hall. Please call Barbara Currie at 303-678-8531 by Tuesday to reserve a lunch for Thursday. The recommended senior donation for lunch is $3.00 per person.

The Senior Book Club continues to meet on the third Tuesday of the month. Contact Barbara Currie at 303-678-8531 for information regarding the current selection.

2014 Mead Directory

The M.A.C.C. and the Town of Mead are currently working on details for publishing the 2014 Directory. It is the hope of all involved that the 2014 Directory will be printed and distributed by late Spring / early Summer. Once the final details are determined more information will be provided to businesses and business professionals in the Mead community.

Annual M.A.C.C. Dinner

April 17th, the M.A.C.C. plans to host the Annual Dinner at Scooter Hinge. Invitations will be sent out sometime in the next few months. This will once again be an evening of networking, food, fun and awards.

We will be presenting awards to those outstanding businesses, members and volunteers in the local community.

Business After Hours

On March 27th at 5:30 p.m. Dina James with ReMax Traditions and Rebecca Glover with Edward Jones will be hosting a Business-After-Hours event at Ranchero's Restaurant. M.A.C.C. members interested in attending the B-A-H event should R.S.V.P. by March 22nd with Tiffany Holcomb.
