iPhoneography PHOTOGRAPHY USING YOUR iPHONE

Beginner Begin your course in iPhoneography with an introduction to the native photo app (the built in camera app) on the iPhone. This class will give you a solid foundation in using the native photo app, including how to alter settings and easily edit a photo from good to great. Tips and tricks of iPhone’s camera will also be covered. You will also review at least two other shooting apps outside the native camera app. You will also learn to edit photos in Snapseed. iPhones (models 4s and above) and iPads (models 2 and above) welcome; sorry not covering androids. Wines Wines of the Southern Hemisphere Discover the world of wines down under. You will taste unique varietals made from places and with flavors that will surprise your palate and challenge your senses. Fine wines from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Argentina will be featured. This course will include an overview of the grapes, wine making and geographical and cultural aspects of each region. Note: Please bring three glasses to each class. Must be 21 and older to enroll. Tasting Room Hospitality This course is designed to train individuals who are interested in being employed as Hospitality Associates in a commercial tasting room. The course will describe and demonstrate the procedures of operating a tasting room. We will also discuss proper wine service techniques and how to manage unique tasting room situations. The final hours of the course will be spent observing the tasting room host at a local winery. FALL PREVIEW WINE California Wine Appreciation Learn to be a wine connoisseur. Do you know the difference between a Merlot and a Cabernet? This course provides basic knowledge and experience in taste discrimination of a variety of Central Coast and other California wines. Learn the sensory evaluation of various components in wine. The varietal characteristics of wine produced on the Central Coast and in other parts of California are reviewed. INSTRUCTOR: Botwin CLASS STARTS: 11/5/14

Intro To Wine Explore the history of wine making from its beginnings to modern day, the basics of winemaking, wine serving, and food and wine pairing. You will also discover the origins of wine grape varietals and their importance. In addition, you will learn how climates, microclimates, and soils have an influence on grape quality. FALL PREVIEW ART Introductory Watercolor Painting

This introductory class will teach you some of the main techniques involved in painting with watercolor. Then you will learn how to mix and use these colors to paint flowers, glass, skies, landscapes, simple buildings and more! INSTRUCTOR: Tricia Reichert CLASS STARTS: 9/6/14

Intermediate Drawing and Painting

This class will show you how to make beautiful paintings of your favorite animals. Learn how to recognize and draw the proportions, details and features of your animals using your choice of medium. EXPERIENCE LEARN

SLOCAVORE Sausage Making Cal Poly’s new J and G Lau Family Meat Processing Center is one of the few facilities of its kind on the Central Coast. The Center is home to state-of-the-art facilities for product development, such as smoking, curing and sausage making. In this workshop, participants will work with resident managers to learn the history and art of making sausage from fresh ingredients – some grown right on campus. Four basic recipes will be taught: breakfast sausage, Italian sausage, linguica and bratwurst. Participants will be given tips on how to create their own recipes and how to safely prepare sausage at home. Artisan Cheese: Basic Production & Appreciation Learn why some cheeses are soft and creamy, while other cheeses are hard and/or grated. This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the science and technology of converting fresh liquid milk to an edible, semi-solid piece of cheese. Participants will receive an orientation to the history and manufacture of some of the world’s leading cheeses, and an introduction to some local favorites. The workshop will be held at Rinconada Dairy, home to the award-winning Pozo Tome, a delicacy made from sheep’s milk. Challenge your taste buds with acidic, earthy, buttery, nutty, and piquant flavors of an abundance of cheese and have some fun stretching mozzarella like an old world cheesemaker! TASTE WORKSHOPS Edible Gardens & Ecological Design Dinner Join us at a unique home incorporating ecological design principles on the Nipomo Mesa with a leading landscape consultant. The focus of the day’s workshop will be on how to set up and maintain a thriving ‘edible garden’ suitable to your property and lifestyle. You will also learn how to beautify your outdoor spaces with low maintenance, drought-resistant native plants. The day will include a tour of a local native plant nursery and end with a memorable local feast in the garden featuring local chefs. Green Belt Certification This course is designed to individually mentor students through the final steps required to complete the Cal Poly Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. OpenVSP v.3 Workshop OpenVSP (Vehicle Sketch Pad) is a parametric aircraft geometry tool, allowing the user to create a 3D model of an aircraft defined by common engineering parameters. This is an open source project under the NASA Open Source Agreement (NOSA) version 1.3. This three day workshop will cover the newly released 3.0 version presented by VSP developers and power users. Kids Learn STEM Summer Camp Young scholars will explore the science, technology and engineering of energy through a series of inquiry-based activities. Led by Cal Poly faculty, your child will “Learn By Doing” as we test solar panels, build wind turbines and investigate the energetics of chemical reactions. Participants will work in small teams to develop and solve scientific challenges, explore the Cal Poly Campus and visit real research laboratories! Cal Poly Kids Learn STEM Summer Camp will power innovation and critical thinking for the young scholar. Space is limited. Don’t let your child miss this experience.
