INTRODUCTION Welcome to Graduate Education at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. Our primary goal is to provide an opportunity for students to extend their undergraduate learning through offering master’s, certificate and credential programs. Embracing our polytechnic foundation, our programs integrate the advancement of knowledge as well as the practical implementation skills required for students to enter the workforce ready to immediately provide value in their professional careers. In addition, our graduate programs support the teacher-scholar model embraced by Cal Poly and allow faculty to balance their commitment to teaching along with their interests in basic and applied research. We strive to balance the process of discovery and practical applications through hands-on experiences and partnerships with industry cohorts. We desire to extend the community we serve beyond California and explore opportunities to craft study programs that meet the needs of our national and international citizens. We have over 40 graduate master’s programs that are outlined in this brochure by the Colleges that support the degree program. Our graduate programs embrace intellectual entrepreneurship, bringing ideas and people together in a synergistic way that enables us to develop students who are citizen-scholars and faculty who are teacher-scholars. Entrepreneurship encourages risk taking within the scientific discovery process; it embraces both knowing and creative doing which enables us to bring ideas and people together to create change. I believe that giving our students the opportunity to participate in multi-disciplinary learning experiences will promote integrative thinking and social responsibility, which are critical skills necessary to solve the global problems our society faces today.
