Each page shows an illustrator’s work. Contact details on the page allow you to contact the illustrator direct or, of course, you can look at more of their work via the listed web addresses. Our unique thumbnail category sections allow you to find illustrators of specific expertise and the online portfolio each illustrator has on our site gives you the opportunity to view a further 20 images from each artist. The electronic online version of the book has direct links from categories to illustrators’ pages as well as click through email and web addresses for all advertisers. The pocket size edition is the same book but in a handy quarter size format suitable for carrying to client meetings or flicking for ideas. Fred Gambino is a concept artist and production designer for film. He has worked as a character designer and matte painter for Warner Brothers/DNA Productions/Playtone for The Ant Bully, and also worked on designs for Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. More recently he has worked as art director for Rainmaker Studios in Vancouver. He has also produced countless book cover illustrations for both the adult and children’s markets,
including a series for Midnight Library for Scholastic US, robots for the Battletech series for Penguin US, science fiction for Little Brown and also a complete book of illustrations of dragons, Life-Size Dragons for Chrysalis. He also worked on the Guinness advertising campaign for Irish BBDO. He is happy to work in either 2D or 3D as required. Expert in 3D modelling, texturing, lighting and render using Lightwave, Modo, Z Brush and Photoshop.

I use Painter to replicate watercolour and pastel artwork, and then Photoshop, to give greater depth, richness and special effects. This means I can provide an illustration with a traditional feel but work quickly and with great flexibility. I love working with a narrative, especially illustrating jackets & novels. My favourite subject areas are classics, mythology, fantasy & horror‌ in fact anything that involves figures in an atmospheric setting!

I like to draw accurately and enjoy having the patience to do so. Almost all the artwork you see here is drawn in vector based software. I’m happy with the other disciplines but, as vector is challenging, hope to demonstrate an ability to give a great deal of thought throughout the creative process. Yes, I know, I should have used 3D!

“Hyper-realism” is used for paintings that “look just like photographs”. I create digital illustrations that look realistic yet definitely “painted”.
