Zahra Shah Congratulations, Zahra – Contactus magazines is proud to name you as our very first award-winner. The prize money isn’t much but can maybe chip in to help you afford something new. Any initial thoughts on what that might be?

T

hank you Carlene, I am still deciding how to spend this money, I have needed a pop-up banner so I may invest in this. My other options is use the money as sponsorship for the Ealing Health and Wellbeing Expo I am co-organising in September. But I’m still thinking about it!

Q&A

You’re running three businesses at the moment: your personal trainer business, including Ealing Fit Club and Get Fit With Zahra; the It Works “body-morphing” wraps, and from a couple of weeks ago Bags by Doris and Gertie. How? Why? Tell us about the connections between the businesses. Get Fit with Zahra over the years has morphed into a service provider that provides, personal training, well being coaching, and fitness classes. The Ealing Fit Club and the Get Fit wraps are services that Get Fit With Zahra provide, they all fit under the umbrella of Get Fit with Zahra. So they all connect well and naturally provide the customers of Get Fit with Zahra with a range of products and

services. Hoping to add fitness clothing and more supplements to the businnes over the next 12 months. As for the bags business – I’m always being told to relax and chill out and do something fun, and for me fun is being creative. I saw an advert a few weeks ago posted by a Facebook friend for the Boutique of Coco, a UK based direct sales company, selling handbags and purses and fashion accessories from UK suppliers. I joined as a business owner to get the 20% discount on all my purchases as I love a good bargain. For fun I started an Instagram account, and it just took off. I get to play with images and promote some lovely things, which I find relaxing. I now have team of eight ladies and who are now building their own little handbag empires I call it my hobby business. But in the back of the my mind this ‘new’ business opens up people to my other businesses as well! Where did the moniker “The Boss Lady” come from? The boss lady came about when I realised I didn’t have to stick to one genre of business; health and fitness will always

be my main LOVE and my main business, but I’m never not going to pass on what I think might be a business opportunity. It also comes from wanting to inspire other women to start their own businesses. And be their own BOSS lady. Your “Sunday Sermon” messages of support for Ealing’s small businesses are always spot on. What message would you like to share today? I’m never one to hold back on what I think. Since I stopped working for others and started working for myself I have seen what small business and home business can do for people. Every business where there is a shop, or home based business, is done from a place of love. I have gotten to know so many small business owners, home business owners and people who love what they do; I can’t help but want to support these businesses. I guess my message is: look around you and see who you have in your network that has a business you can purchase from rather than give more money to the massive high street retailers. If your friend sells

bath bombs go buy one from her. If you have butcher on your high street go see them, buy local, support your local retail and home-based businesses. I think so many people have formed horrendous opinions on home-based businesses. I have seen direct sellers being called ‘sad’ and con artists! This is just so wrong, we need to support local sellers, not degrade them. getfitwithzahra.co.uk @getfitwithzahra MetaFitWestLondon – Carlene Bender
