his is a massive weekend for sport in Ealing, with the Ealing Half Marathon on Sunday 25. Is that why you chose this weekend for Sports Xtreme Ealing? > Absolutely. The Ealing Half Marathon is a such a key date in the Ealing calendar now, and is the best half marathon in the UK. We saw this weekend as a great opportunity to promote all sports and give people the opportunity to try a huge range of activities for free.

The weekend will help cement sport in Ealing. Our event gives Ealing sports clubs, gyms, fitness groups and health food businesses a great chance to promote and market their businesses. If you’d like to get involved or learn more please contact the Make it Ealing team: info@makeitealing.co.uk.

The past two autumns you’ve put on similar kinds of sporting events – what’s different about Sports Xtreme Ealing 2016? > Each year we continue to build the event in size and promotion.

This year it’s the range of activities which make it ‘Xtreme’.

There will also be a competition on the skateboard ramp between some

of the UK’s leading pros – I’m sure their tricks and skills will be pretty extreme! The event offers a huge range of activities all for free – come down and enjoy the day with us!

SoundBite in the rain DEAN GARDENS W13 > Every serious festival needs a bit of rain and mud, and the weather willingly obliged on Saturday for the West Ealing SoundBite Festival.

Hundreds of fun-seekers turned out in their raincoats and boots to sample the live music, crafts, cookery classes, fun rides, climbing wall, small business stands, and the food.

After last year’s SoundBite had to be cancelled when police closed the park because of a crime overnight, it was good to see the community out together again.

According to Julian Ward, whose Hilltop Roti shop came down Drayton Green Road to take a Caribbean food stand as well as to stage several cookery demos, “I needed to be involved in this event.” @SoundBiteEaling

End of the Ealing art trail BEECHMOUNT AVE W7 > Ealing-based art-makers felt another surge of love from the local community as the second weekend of the Borough of Ealing Art Trail (BEAT) ended on Sunday. The_Ealinger stopped by the home studio of Jessica Rose, our Q&A featured artist last week, to see her paintings and prints up close and to have a chat about the success of the BEAT. Let’s have it again next year!

Floral art at St Barnabas PITSHANGER LANE W5 > The Borough of Ealing Art Trail (BEAT) last weekend also included stop number 43 – the St Barnabas Church Flower Festival. Organised by Anne Hamerton, the 20 or so displays around the inside of the church itself each depicted a different period in the church’s century-long memory. The specially selected music chimed in with the theme, too.

NORTH ACTON PAVILION W3 > The_Ealinger freelancer Joanna Dudzinska went along to the opening of the East Acton Old Town – New Town Exhibition on Saturday, which “celebrated the end of a 16-month project documenting East Acton heritage through film, art, photography and live presentation”.
