Q&A

t’s a big step for a band to appoint a manager – so are you off on a big tour soon? What about Hanwell Hootie, The Ealing Club, Ealing Jazz Festival etc? Where next can we see these guys on stage in Ealing? > The band has already had great success including being part of BBC Introducing, performing at O2 Academy venues and a whole host of summer 2016 festivals. Appointing a manager is a natural next step to enable the band to realise their full potential leaving them to do what they do best – perform and entertain with passion. We have already spoken to Hanwell Hootie and Soundbite

So who’s who in Chasing Deer? > Chris Wood is on lead guitar and vocals. He has been playing guitar for 13 years and studied music at university. Rob Hodkinson plays keyboards and sings lead vocals. He has been singing for 19 years and has a degree in music. He formed Chasing Deer in 2014. What’s next for Chasing Deer? Adam Biddlecombe plays > Chasing Deer will be releasing drums and percussion. He has an EP in early 2017. Their been playing in bands since the current CD consisting of original age of 12. material, including the award chasingdeer-official.com winning tune ‘Step into the Light’, @ChasingDeerBand is available on their chasingdeer website. > The idea came from the band’s marketing manager, Gita Katbamna, realising that the band would be perfect both for entertaining those cheering and supporting the runners, as well as for motivating the runners themselves. Where better than on their doorstep!

Ealing Business Partnership

EALING TOWN HALL W5 > The Ealing Business Partnership began in May 2012 as a forum for connecting local businesses with Ealing Council. Here is how it is described on the Council website: “The Ealing Business Partnership is a business led forum, where the council and local businesses work closely together over both service and delivery issues, especially regulatory services. It is a key mechanism for consulting and working with the business community across the borough. Annually it is used to present the council’s annual budget with the business community.” For the past two years the chair was held by GLconnects’ Geoff Langston, who handed over to a ‘coalition’ between Andrew Dakers of West London Business, and Camran Mirza of BoomZone, at last Thursday’s meeting.

Below: Henry Kennedy Skipton, head of Ealing Council Regeneration, updates the meeting with the latest Regen news. Councillors in attendance included leader Julian Bell; deputy leader Ranjit Dheer; cabinet member for finance Yvonne Johnson; Steve Hynes; and Gregory Stafford. Ealing Broadway BID was represented by Ann Hunter; and several independent business-owners attended, including Gita Langston, Michael Greer, and Prakash Gautam.

BROADWAY W13 > Kujawiak, a Polish shop with a branch in West Ealing, has a wide selection of food and drinks imported from Poland. The_Ealinger’s Joanna Dudzinska remembers being their customer “some six or seven years ago in South Ealing, and then got sad when they disappeared. However, I discovered they only moved to much bigger premises in Broadway!” She added: “Pani Kasia rules behind the meat counter and is as friendly, chatty and cheerful as ever.”

BROADWAY W13 > “Who needs Camden Market when we have Estelle’s?” asked The_Ealinger contributor Joanna Dudzinska upon her discovery of Estelle’s Boutique at 119 Broadway, West Ealing. Jamila, the shop assistant/seamstress running the shop, had created such beautiful and colourful garments that Joanna was drawn into the shop – and very nearly into trying on some of the Afghan wedding garments herself. Such creativity in West Ealing, but alas Estelle’s is set to close, as “the owner cannot afford the rent anymore”. The least we can do now is to grab a bargain or two before it’s too late. Below: Jamila displays some of the outfits that must go in the closing down sale, including wedding dresses (bottom photo), and jewellery Bottom right: Such attention to detail. Jamila is also available for “all types of alterations”. Photos: Joanna Dudzinska
