Q&A
Pascale Chaillet Pascale Chaillet is a Shiatsu therapist, helping adults to alleviate physical pain and “learn to trust their body”. How exactly does she do this? She explains in our Q&A...
T
ell us about your Shiatsu Taster event at The Lawn, Ealing Green on 19 Nov – what is going to be happening? > The Shiatsu Taster Christmas Special is an opportunity for those who feel a bit stressed and who haven’t experienced Shiatsu yet, to come and give it a try. It is a 30-minute session that includes hands-on body work, a stress-management handout and a £5-off gift voucher if bought the same day.
“What Shiatsu offers is raising body awareness and anchoring the mind into the body” Shiatsu is a complementary therapy and doesn’t replace your regular medical supervision. Please consult your GP if you have any health concerns.

Q&A
I was just reading your online profile, and saw the words “Shiatsu moves stagnant energy” – would you explain what that means? > In Eastern medicine, stagnant energy is often the result of emotional suppression, mental stress or physical idleness. These manifestations are caused by external environment (work, lifestyle, pollution...) or internal body function ailments.
7 Nov 2016
By applying gentle pressure on energetic channels with my hands, I allow the body tissues to unlock recent or older blockages themselves and restore a natural flow of life. You also offer ‘Shiatsu for Dementia’ courses – what is it about Shiatsu that can help people with dementia? > People with dementia go through different stages: behavioural issues, mobility impairments,
body function slowdowns. Energetically it is not that different from the previous answer, but what Shiatsu offers is raising body awareness and anchoring the mind into the body, as people with dementia disconnect from life reality. Shiatsu helps them reconnect their mind with the reality of their body and feel safer, hence improving their interaction with family and carers. So how does a French woman living in England end up practising Japanese body therapy?
> I love this question although it’s slightly incomplete as I also moved away from 25 years in corporate business. Looking back, my life has been a fantastic journey travelling, working, living with very different cultures, learning various skills from business to healing art, from languages to martial arts. Multi-cultural exposure and experience diversity are how I grow within, I believe. zenshiatsutherapy.com @ShiatsuWLondon zenshiatsutherapy – interview by Carlene Bender

Tour of South Acton street art SOUTH ACTON W3 > We started at Acton Town station, headed south along Bollo Lane and wound our way through the streets and gardens of South Acton to get to the final stop – Carrie Reichardt’s mosaic-covered house called The Treatment Rooms. Street art surprises along the way included pieces by Stik – notably the giant yellow, white and black ‘Mother and Child’ on the side of the doomed Charles Hocking House, birds by ATM (one of which had just been burned away), and Leonard’s outsized drawings. We looked out for “Mad in England” blue plaques (another Reichardt project), and wondered out loud about the artiness of graffiti, as the conversation was topped up in English and Polish by tour director Joanna Dudzinska. The highlight of the tour definitely was our visit to the Reichardt studio at 199 Acton Lane – check out the live video on our Contactus page on Facebook.

A story of two Irish brothers HIGH STREET W3 > ‘Just Above Dogs’ is a play written by Anne Curtis about two Irish brothers who came to work in the building trade in London in 1971. They subsequently parted ways, one going on to become more successful – and it is his son who seeks to tell the story. The_Ealinger contributor Joanna Dudzinska, who is originally from Poland, went along to see the Green Curtain Theatre play at the West London Trade Union Club last Saturday. She shares her impression of the evening: “I met a local woman half-way up the stairs. Jessica her name was. We both loved the play and the acting. She is from Acton, but is of Irish parents, just like so many people here. Nowadays, Poles, Romanians and other Eastern Europeans have replaced the Irish in London, but they can easily sing the same song...”
Local event soon? Contact Joanna Dudzinska and invite her to come along to cover it for The_Ealinger. Find Joanna via: English Lessons Online and Offline or reach her by email: englishlekcje@yahoo.co.uk

Groovy serenade at the market EALING BROADWAY W5 > Lunchtime shoppers at Kate McKenzie’s #W5FoodMarket in front of Ealing Town Hall last Thursday were in for a treat when local band Chasing Deer set up their busking pitch alongside the food stalls and proceeded to play some old-time favourites like ‘Lean On Me’ as well as selections from their 2015 EP, Rewriting History, including ‘Streets of London’. Theo, who was rolling up lamb wraps with rice and vegetables on the Naughty Roti stand, welcomed the live music, saying that it “made a nice change”. The food stands return to the Town Hall forecourt on Sun 13 Nov. @EatMeDrinkMeLDN @ChasingDeerBand @naughtyrotiuk

CHURCHFIELD ROAD W3 > There was a theme to the ninth Contactus magazines Acton Business Meetup last Monday – local business-owners discussed how to make the most of the promotional opportunities offered by Small Business Saturday, which is being marked this year on 3 Dec. We started off with a list of 20-odd promotional ideas (see page 7) and feature speaker Loredana Baranga of local digital marketing firm Marketology led a mini-workshop to give attendees a chance to tailor the ideas to suit the businesses. See page 13 for a link to the meetup video. It has been my pleasure to launch, host and promote the Acton Business Meetup since Dec 2015, and I’m delighted to hand it over to a true Actonite – Zahra Shah. I look forward to attending as a guest from now on. Best of luck, Zahra. @getfitwithzahra
