The the week Ealinger

My uncle Jim was a bomber pilot during WW2. He went missing in April 1942 aged just 20 and is still MIA. I decided to see if I could find out what happened to him. Five years’ research managed to pinpoint what I believe is the general crash area, and also traced the families of the other crew members worldwide. Becoming involved with The Bomber Command Memorial, I publishd a charity book of my photos of the Memorial, to help raise money for its upkeep. The idea also developed into the making of a film. I wrote, produced and edited “What did you do in the war Grandad?”, a short film paying tribute to my uncle. The film was long-listed in the Winchester Short Film Festival last year.

The creative type Nicola Gaughan adds creative flair to everything she does – from graphic design to photography to film-making, to baking. In our Q&A she reveals the one thing she’s not very creative about... Your business is called Iconic Creative; is there anything you just can’t get creative about? Code, I’m just not a coder. I’m a very visual person, getting my inspiration from films, photography, museums, galleries, friends and so on. I’ve tried working in HTML and just couldn’t get my head round it. You’re born-and-bred Hanwell, and still living there; how involved do you get locally? I’ve acted as volunteer photographer for The Neighbours Paper, productions

and crewing at Questors, and several Hanwell Carnivals. I also occasionally photograph events for the Hanwell Community forum. Health issues have stopped this involvement, and I now play a role supporting local businesses, giving talks on small business marketing, taking part in Ealing Business Forum, #EalingHour and so on. The film-making side of your work seems to be taking off these days, tell us about “What did you do in the war Grandad?”.

Q&A

What’s your next project then? I’m busy preparing promotional material for the Acton Business Expo in May, we’ve recently started work on our second film, and I’ve just been offered a place on an MA Post Production course. iconiccreative.co.uk @IconicCreative Iconic-Creative-FilmPhotography – Carlene Bender
