comes the fun bit of folding! I still find it amazing to watch the whole thing come together.

As with all things handmade a little piece of my heart goes with each book I make...

For the book lovers We know Greenford-based Natasha Gupta best for her Blue Feather Book Designs, and in this week’s Q&A she explains how her design business has been changing over the past two years.

You didn’t start out as Blue Feather Book Designs, did you?

That is right but only a select few know this! After studying interior design, I worked on one big commercial project, but had to turn down further work due to family circumstances. Needing a creative outlet, I stumbled across the art of book folding.

Initially, I did this for myself and made a few gifts for friends and family. My husband encouraged me to push it further and create a business, which I did in November 2014. I have been incredibly lucky with support from

Are you crazy about all kinds of recycling anyway?

Most definitely! Before books, I actually used to rescue furniture for up-cycling, never good enough to make a business out of, but highly satisfying!

So – how are the wheelie-bins being received in Greenford?

Ha! “The Great Wheelie Bin Debate!” Most people will hate me for saying it but I think it’s a good idea!

The area in Greenford I live in, most houses have driveways, so a permanent wheelie bin doesn’t cause an issue. I do however completely sympathise with people that simply have nowhere to put them, which is more common in most areas in Ealing!

I now stock books in local gift shops – Love Handmade on Northfield Avenue and Amreens Gifts & Interiors in Hanwell.

The process is quite long and boring till it gets to the end.

Once a design is agreed with the customer, I find a suitable book (the number of pages is crucial to the design). Each page is then measured and marked using precision tools. Then
