You primarily have a Council focus, but you take adverts in the magazine as well?

Yes. ‘Around Ealing’ has by far the biggest distribution of any publication in the borough, so it makes sense for local businesses to be able to advertise in it. And a wide range of companies do so – see our website for details.

I am told West London, and Ealing in particular, is increasingly regarded as the ‘hot’ part of town in terms of potential investment and business – which is really encouraging for the local economy.

There certainly appears to be lots of entrepreneurial spirit in evidence – which you would know plenty about yourself, Carlene.

As editor of the Ealing Council magazine ‘Around Ealing’, Richard Nadal gets through the letterboxes of 137,500 households and businesses in Ealing.

Is he a local celebrity? We ask him in this week’s Q&A.

Complete this sentence: “Until I worked on ‘Around Ealing’, I never knew Ealing was so...” ...Green. It sounds silly, and I only grew up down the road in Uxbridge and came into Ealing a lot, but I hadn’t fully appreciated the number and size of the parks and open spaces in the borough.

It was a surprise; a nice one.

Well? Do people come up to you in Ealing and say they know you from somewhere?

Occasionally. More often it’s just a case of when I meet people they already know what I look like, which is handy for finding people in a busy coffee shop or meeting room. But I don’t think I’ll make it on to the A-Z of celebrity-hood any time soon.

Meeting people is probably the best part of my job, though. And hopefully they remember me after we’ve met...

You always have fantastic photos and coverage in ‘Around Ealing’. How does it all work?

Thanks. I am lucky enough to be able to get out and about quite a lot but, of course, I can’t get everywhere.

I’ve got plenty of help from members of the Council’s media team, who are integral, regular contributors – as is the borough archivist Dr Jonathan Oates, who writes most of our local history pieces. So, it’s a team effort.
