An Expo welcome ACTON Above: Ealing Council leader, Julian Bell (second left) officially opening last Thursday’s Acton Business Expo which was held at the Acton Town Hall. The event was commissioned and funded by the Council as a way of promoting businesses in the Acton part of the borough. ACTON BUSINESS EXPO SPECIAL Did you know exactly what you were getting in to when you picked a shop spot on the “up-and-coming” Churchfield Road? Among all those independent shops and eateries, how does Post and Packing fit in? It sounds clichéd but I really did get that “feeling” that eluded me during all the other properties I saw. I knew immediately that it was right. All the elements of a destination street are there and will hopefully be realised in the forthcoming Council plans.

New age postman The Post and Packing shop on Churchfield Road, Acton, provides a range of postal services for both individuals and businesses. Branch owner Keith Dowling explains how this work figures into a career path that also includes nursing.

How does a nurse from Ireland end up running a Post and Packing franchise in Acton? Tell us a bit about your story. I’ve lived here 18 years now and worked in retail most of my life. Nursing is a more recent thing but an opportunity came up to be a partner in this business. Nursing is incredibly rewarding but not financially and I need to secure my future. I fully intend to go back to nursing part-time when the business is more established.

Q&A

You exhibited at the Acton Business Expo on Thursday – being so near the entrance meant that you had a lot of people stopping to talk to you. Plus I saw you getting involved in the discussions and speed networking. What was the Expo like for you? As an Expo virgin, I coped pretty well! I’m not a natural born networker (they are rare, I know!) but almost immediately I made connections. It exceeded my expectations and hats off to Contactus for organising. Job well done. postandpackinguk.com/acton @PandPActon – Carlene Bender
