Our Outdoor Furniture If you need outdoor furniture that really works for you, make sure you choose the right colours and use the right materials...and remember, that it may have to be stored inside during the winter. Colours can matter. Sometimes practicality is more important than design black furniture can get too hot; white table tops can cause an almost unbearable glare..and can attract dust (particularly plastic seats). Happily, usually you have plenty of choice; often we can provide furniture to your chosen RAL colour. Why materials do matter. Plastic is popular, although dark colours can fade in bright light and light colours can stain. Hardwood is one of our favourite outdoor materials, as it ages beautifully. But all wood will need regular maintenance. Cast iron bases are stable and, with the correct treatment, long-lasting remember most are pedestal bases, so you can’t also have a central parasol hole. Cast aluminium chairs are becoming more affordable and look great. Stone tops are sometimes specified, for their appearance (and weight, so they do not get blown away), but they are brittle and can scratch. Barstools If you need outdoor barstools - either for use at a bar or a high table - you now have a wide choice. Decide whether they should have a back and be more comfortable, or not, and be less imposing. Barstools tend not to stack, so can be bulky to store, but we can supply folding stools. Tables Choosing the right outdoor table can be fraught with difficulty; wooden tops (usually a hardwood such as Iroko or Robinia) are almost as popular outside as in. Drainage shouldn’t be overlooked, to avoid puddling, although slatted tables can mean cutlery falling through the gaps, or wine glasses falling over. Aluminium table bases that ‘nest’ together, with a mechanism that allows the top to tilt vertically for neat winter storage are always popular, as are cast iron bases, with their stability and robustness. Our Showroom Our home is a 6,000 square foot working showroom in Hammersmith, which we built for ourselves in 2011. We have over 500 dining type chairs, 100 table top and table base samples, 50 barstools and a dedicated outdoor furniture section with over 100 items. We have fabric books, colour swatches, wood samples and table edges. Please do drop-in, but if you get in touch beforehand, we can ensure a manager is available to answer your questions.
