A young man struggles to break free from a childhood of poverty. He becomes consumed with a drive to avoid the life of his father, a pastor who died in poverty doing God’s work.

circles of wealthy dealmakers in Miami at the height of 80s excess, to the streets of Central America crumbling under civil war, and ultimately to a chance meeting with Mother Teresa in the slums of Calcutta — where he is confronted with a choice:

Keep running from his impoverished past, or embrace it as his strength and take up the mantle in the fight against poverty.

This film will chronicle the true story of Hal Donaldson and the journey he needed to make, the sights he needed to see, the lessons he needed to learn on the road to founding Convoy of Hope — an organization now responsible for feeding more than 500,000 children in poverty every day.

Over the course of Hal’s journey, he and his wife, Doree, start a family.

As his four daughters grow, Hal embarks on a pilgrimage through the destitute streets of major U.S. cities searching for answers at the heart of poverty.

Hal’s search becomes a strain at home, where Doree must care for the girls alone while teaching music. Though her support never wavers, she is tested by Hal’s absence.

Until he returns with an insight that changes everything — and together with his family, sets out on a mission to fight poverty with Convoy of Hope.

Hal is not only a drama about a family man torn between his ambitions and his calling ... It’s also a portrait of poverty in America and in countries around the world, told to inspire audiences to engage with the fight against hunger, poverty, and suffering.
