Drug addiction is a disease. Every time the user chooses to use drugs, an addiction to the drug becomes more and more of a risk. Your brain releases a chemical called dopamine that produces a euphoric effect when rewarding our natural behaviors. Eating and exercise are examples of natural behaviors that would result in the production of dopamine. Our brain associates these activities with rewards, so we repeat them in order to continue living. However, drugs can have the same effect on the brain. The drugs are also chemicals and some can release 2 to 10 times more dopamine than our natural rewards do. This powerful reward is what encourages people to take drugsPARENT/ againTEACHER and again. The individual COMMENTS: may feel the need to take larger amounts of the drug than they first did in order to get the same dopamine high. This is an effect of drug abuse known as tolerance. Another negative effect is that the individual may become addicted to the drug. Drug addiction is defined as a condition in which there is an overwhelming desire to continue taking a drug because it produces a particular effect. The addiction to the drug can destroy the person’s self-control and their ability to make competent choices. All of these negativeHALL effects of drug use PASS: are why it is important to never try drugs in the first place! Date

Responsibility is the core value for living honorably. Types of Responsibilities • Moral responsibility to other people, animals and the earth. You are accountable for treating other people justly and fairly, for honoring other living things and for being environmentally aware. • Legal responsibility to the laws and ordinances of your community, state and country. • Family responsibility means treating your parents, siblings and other relatives with love and respect, following your parents’ rules and doing chores and duties at home. • Community responsibility. As a part of the community, you are responsible for treating others as you want to be treated, for participating in community activities and for being an active contributing citizen. Vote in elections when you are old enough. • Personal responsibility. Only you can determine the kind of person you are and ultimately become. So get organized, be punctual and honor your commitments.
There is also that responsibility to your school and to the safety of your school. Here are some suggestions on how you can contribute. • Settle arguments with words, not fists. • Walk away from people who are arguing. Don’t make an audience. • Choose your friends wisely. • Stay away from trouble spots. • Trust your feeling. • Learn and use safe routes for walking/driving to school. • Don’t carry knives, guns or other weapons to school. • Inform school officials immediately if you see students with weapons. • Encourage your school to begin a peer mediation board.
