My Plate
ChooseMyPlate.gov is designed to help people make healthier and smaller food choices. Here is a review of the plate model and its colors. This is what each color represents. Grains
Orange represents the grain group – “Make at least half your grains whole.” Vegetables
Green represents the vegetable group – “Vary your vegetables.” Fruits
Red represents the fruit group – “Focus on fruits” Protein
Purple represents the protein foods group – “Go lean with protein.” Dairy
Blue represents the dairy group – “Get your calcium-rich foods.” Source: www.choosemyplate.gov
10 Tips for a Great Plate
1. Balance calories. 2. Enjoy your food, but eat less. 3. Avoid oversized portions. 4. Foods to eat often: vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat and fat-free dairy products. 5. Make half your plate vegetables and fruit. 6. Switch to fat-free or low-fat milk. 7. Make half your grains whole grains. 8. Reduce foods that are high in added sugars, salts and solid fats: ice cream, candies, sweetened drinks, pizza, cakes and pies, and fatty meats. 9. Compare sodium in foods. Select canned items that are “no salt added,” “low sodium,” and “reduced sodium.” 10. Drink water instead of sugary drinks.

how to be
HONEST
There are many ways of showing honesty.
Here are a few: Keep your promises. If you tell a friend you are going to study with him/her, do it. Sure, playing instead is more fun, but that’s not what you made a commitment for. Think before you make a promise. Ask Yourself: Do I really want to do this? Do I have time to do this? Suggest another activity. Be honest about how you feel.
Be truthful. This would include telling no lies, not cheating on a test, not cheating someone out of money, and not betraying a friend’s confidence. Ask Yourself: If I lie, how is that going to make me feel? How embarrassing is it going to be to get caught cheating? Sometimes doing the RIGHT thing is much harder than doing the easy thing. The easy way out isn’t always the best way out.
