Photographed outside her Vancouver, Canada, home for the first time since she and Prince Harry, 35, announced their decision to relinquish their positions as senior royals, Meghan Markle, 38, looked happier than she has in months. Instead of the dresses, heels and formal coats she wore on official visits as the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan was clad in a heavy parka, jeans and boots as she boarded a sea plane to visit two women’s organizations — and seemed thoroughly comfortable, in more ways than one. “Meghan is so relieved to finally have some freedom,” says an insider. “She loves being able to do whatever she wants without the royals watching her every move. Escaping from the chaos in London has done her a world of good. She can’t stop beaming.” She’ll be beaming even more once Harr y joins her and their son, Archie, in Canada. The prince has been “beyond stressed,” says the insider, negotiating his new status as a semi-commoner with Queen Elizabeth II, his father, Prince Cha rles, a nd his brother, Prince William, back in England. Still, Harry is optimistic about a future that includes raising his little boy out of the spotlight, doing charity work — and forging his own financial path, independent of British taxpayers. “It’s very fortunate that he has Meghan to reassure

him and guide him through the drama,” the insider says. “He’s thrilled with his family’s prospects — and their new life.”

IN A NEW ROUTINE While the insider says that Harry and Meghan are planning to eventually raise Archie, 8 months, in the suburbs of Toronto, they’ve already developed an affection for Vancouver, where they spent six weeks over the holidays. And Meghan has been getting to know the area even better in Harry’s absence. “One of the things she loves most about Vancouver is the stunning scenery,” the insider says. “Going for long hikes in the fresh air is one her favorite things to do out there.” Out of necessity, Meghan still maintains a large security detail — both for her personal safety as a public figure, and because of the army of photographers that has been tracking her every move since she and Harry broke with

the royal family. “Once the drama’s died down, she hopes they’ll move on to a new story,” the insider says. But despite all the media interest — and the luxurious $14 million rented mansion she’s been living in — Meghan feels as though she’s already leading a more down-to-earth existence. “When she’s not doing work for her charities, she’s driving around, running errands, shopping for groceries,” the insider shares. “She’s leading a normal life again.” And she’s thrilled to be raising Archie as normally as she can. “He’s doing great,” says the insider, who adds that the smiley tot seems to be flourishing in his new home. “He loves being outdoors, surrounded by greenery, and he has space.” That’s a good thing, the insider reports, because the precocious little boy has already taken his first steps. “Harry can’t wait to start fresh with his wife and baby,” adds the insider. “It’s all a big change for him, but he has no regrets.”

Harry and Meghan’s big move has eliminated a lot of tension from their lives — but not all of it. Meghan is currently embroiled in a court battle with the Daily Mail newspaper, which she’s accusing of breaching her privacy by publishing excerpts of an angry letter she sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle. And Thomas will be testifying for the defense. The retired lighting director, 75, is expected to state that he gave the excerpts to the paper in order to disprove reports that Meghan’s message had been an olive branch that he callously ignored.
