This secluded series of stunning waterfalls and swimming holes in tropical Far North Queensland is hidden in a beautiful rainforest. It’s 14 kilometres outside of Cairns, but there’s no public transport, so it can only be accessed by car. APSLEY WATERHOLE, TAS A closely guarded secret with locals in north-east Tassie, the picturesque Apsley Waterhole is located in the DouglasApsley National Park, one of the few uncleared dry forests in the state. Cool off after a relaxing walk through the park’s diverse and stunning spots, which include eucalyptus forests, waterfalls, wet gullies and wildflower marshlands.

TEXT BY AMBER BRAMBLE Located at Seven Creeks, three kilometres north-west of Strathbogie, this waterhole is named after a ghost that’s said to haunt it to this day. But there’s nothing spooky about the serene beauty of this pleasant swimming spot in the heart of Ned Kelly country, which features man-made waterfalls, rapids and a purposebuilt diving board.
