If Brooke was feeling a little paranoid on The Bold and the Beautiful lately, you could hardly blame her! Thomas is out to get her; Ridge is tempted by the fruit of another; and Quinn will do whatever it takes to sideline her and set Shauna up with her husband! Over in Salem, we know by now that it’s not a good idea to let Claire loose with a box of Redheads – she’s a flamin’ handful! And speaking of flamin’ galahs, Alf’s only gone and got himself hitched in Summer Bay – to an old flame! We bring you closer than ever to the stars with our featured faves Courtney Hope, Barry Conrad and Natalie Portman – check out what they have to say about living life in the spotlight. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL WEEKDAYS 4.30PM ON TEN
Target: cover story
There’s an emotional bounty on and her guard up –
and she’ll need to keep are both aiming for the bullseye!
K
rooke Logan Forrester has the uncanny ability to win the hearts of en everywhere. Case in oint: while she and hubby Ridge constantly argue the toss these days, Brooke has renewed her friendship with her husband Eric – to whom she’s been married… twice. Their marriages didn’t work out, but Eric’s made it crystal ear that he’ll always be there r Brooke (Katherine Kelly ang). His wry jokes and ck-solid support make her ugh and feel secure when she feels sad, lonely and down over her current state of affairs. In fact, Brooke’s grown o rely on Eric (John McCook) more and more these days as he and Ridge have reached impasse over his son – toxic omas (Matthew Atkinson). ooke sees Thomas as an tive threat to her daughter ope’s (Annika Noelle) future ppiness; Ridge views his chip the old block as a man who’s ade a few mistakes, but can ow be trusted. Hmm... Brooke’s growing dependence on Eric’s kindness hasn’t gone unnoticed by Quinn (Rena Sofer), his missus. She’s been lying relatively low the ast several months, but let’s ot forget just how diabolical d, quite frankly, dangerous uinn can be. She’s pushed th Ivy (Ashleigh Brewer) d Deacon (Sean Kanan) into dies of water in order to get at she wants. And let’s not rget about the bruising battles
THE SLAP! Quinn quickly intervenes as brash Brooke shoves Shauna!
POINTED Brooke gets up in Quinn’s grill and flicks her the bird!
she’s waged with Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) right there in the Forrester mansion! The late Stephanie’s (Susan Flannery) knick-knacks have never been quite the same! Brooke’s going to need to watch her back around Quinn. But Eric’s current wife just might find his former spouse to be a formidable foe. For years, Brooke took Stephanie’s abuse, often getting slapped in the Forrester living room by the moody matriarch. Brooke had the resolve to survive Stephanie
and there’s something even more impressive about her – men find her irresistible! That’s something that’s likely to infuriate Quinn, who sees herself as the rightful lady of the Forrester manor... Working against Brooke is the fact that Quinn’s pal Shauna (Denise Richards) is extremely interested in Ridge. Quinn would love to see her friend snare an available Forrester. And let’s not forget Quinn herself once had feelings for Ridge (Thorsten Kaye)...
Outwardly, she’s moved on from her stepson, but Quinn would like to see Brooke and Ridge split for good, for reasons she may not be fully ready to admit! Watch for Quinn to feel backed into a corner after Eric gives his wife a newsflash that doesn’t paint Shauna in the best light. Eric’s been more than gracious and gentlemanly to both Shauna and Flo – after all, they’re friends of his wife – but Eric’s always going to put family first and he considers Brooke to be exactly that.
As tensions rise, Thomas will reach out to Quinn and suggest an alliance against Brooke. Stephanie often called Brooke a “consummate opportunist,” but Thomas knows a good set-up as well. He and Quinn could become an unbeatable pair! Once Brooke’s out of the picture, Shauna has a clear path to Ridge. Also, Thomas can move in on Hope more easily. He’s already fantasised about there being a world without Brooke in it. Just how far will Quinn and Thomas go to get rid of pesky Brooke? Being outnumbered and without Ridge’s support are two factors that could make Brooke extremely vulnerable. What she needs right now is an ally, but she may not find one in Liam (Scott Clifton). Yes, he’s got Thomas’ number and he, better than anyone, knows how duplicitous Quinn can be (remember when she kept him as an amnesiac away from Steffy?). But Liam’s sometimes too noble for his own good. He won’t blame Thomas for the lip-lock he shared with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) – Liam accepts responsibility for his own actions. Brooke needs people around her who aren’t holding back from calling out Quinn and Thomas for who they are. Right now, she’s having trouble lining up necessary forces to do that. But if anyone can survive the odds and emerge victorious, it’s Brooke Logan Forrester! TVS 5

REGALLY BLONDE Flo makes bedroom eyes at Wyatt

yatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) is starting to give not only his brother Liam (Scott Clifton), but also Ridge Forrester, a run for their money when it comes to going back and forth between women – as both Sally and Flo are finding out! First, he was with Sally (Courtney Hope) but then they split over her being rather less than forthcoming regarding what she knew about Thomas’ (Matthew Atkinson) plans to win Hope’s heart. It wasn’t long before Wyatt picked up with his former flame Flo (Katrina Bowden), much to poor Sally’s dismay. It was clear that Wyatt still had unresolved feelings for Flo. She was guarded because she had a deep secret, having had played a role, after the fact, related to baby Beth’s kidnapping. But she didn’t dare tell Wyatt the awful truth because she was afraid of the repercussions for everyone involved – not least herself. And before Flo could come forward, little Douglas (Henry Joseph Samiri) set the record straight. Wyatt was naturally devastated. Sally’s lies
seemed like a jolly birthday party compared to Flo’s ugly omission. He broke things off with her and resumed his relationship with Sally, who was initially hesitant about going back to a man who’d hurt her so much. It turns out that Sally’s reservations had merit. Now Wyatt’s rediscovering his feelings for Flo, throwing Sally’s life once more into a tailspin. The flame-haired fashionista can’t help but wonder why Wyatt would take back a woman into his life who’d been so cruel, keeping Hope and Liam from their own precious baby! Watch for Wyatt to reach out to his nearest and dearest in light of his decision to reunite with Flo. It won’t come as a surprise that his mother Quinn (Rena Sofer) is thrilled by this latest development! One of her fondest wishes has been for Flo and Wyatt to reunite. Quinn’s no fan of Sally’s and she’s going to do everything in her power to encourage a Wyatt/Flo pairing. The sounding board between mother and son is a two-way street. Quinn will also bring Wyatt right up to speed on problems she’s having in her own life. Quinn’s husband Eric (John McCook) has a needy ex-wife in Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Quinn is not happy about that at all! Prior to dating Sally and before he reconnected with Flo, Wyatt had a jovial, uncomplicated, fun romance
JUST ADD SAUCE So Sally can wait... but for how long?
going on with Katie (Heather Tom). While they didn’t make it to the finish line, Wyatt and Katie have stayed pals. He respects her opinion and he’ll reach out her for support. Katie’s able to offer a little perspective, having survived a troubling romant triangle or two herself! Interestingly, despite the fact that they’ve both fallen many times for the same women – Hope, Steffy, and, to an extent, Sally – Wyatt and Liam are two siblings who’ve managed to maintain a (mostly) supportive relationship. If anyone can understand what it’s like to be torn between two women it’s Liam... He may not have any the answers Wyatt’s looking for but he can always offer his brother support. And that’s what Wyatt needs right now. This is twice now that Sally has been dumped by Wyatt in favour of Flo. And let’s no forget about the times that Thomas cut his ties with he Sally’s too passionate and determined to take this kind of treatment for long. She can’t stop caring about Wya overnight and, even if she doesn’t manage to get him back, she’s going to let Flo know exactly what she think of her... uh-oh! Should any woman feel secure in Wyatt professing his love for her? When you count Katie, Wyatt’s gone back and forth between three different woman in just a few years. And that’s not even counting his pasts with Hope and Steffy (remember the matching wedding band tattoos?) It’s possible that the next time Wyatt finds himself single he’ll decide to take a brea from the dating pool and examine just wh it is within him that causes his to break things off and start right up again on a regular basis. Of course, he can’t fully control the drama in his life; but he can control how he responds. Will he remain with Flo – or in time, realise Sally the one for him? TVS

Quick-witted Quinn pushes sultry Shauna and the unhappy hubby together...

hauna Fulton arrived on the scene like a bolt from the blue. And all anyone really knew was that she was Flo’s mum and Quinn’s pal. That friendship may result in Quinn becoming Shauna’s step-mother-in-law if she gets her way! The chemistry between Shauna (Denise Richards) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) has been steamy and seductive since day one. Shauna knows how to give a man her full focus, making him and his woes feel like the most important things in the world... She’s also judged Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) character, too. After doing a little digging, Shauna knew all about Brooke’s humble origins as a valley girl who set her sights on Ridge. Shauna knows full well that Brooke is not in any position to throw stones at glass houses she’s wed not only Ridge, but also Forrester fellows Eric (John McCook) and Thorne, too! 8
Quinn (Rena Sofer) knows that Eric is only going to be so sympathetic towards her, given his affection for Brooke. He’ll warn his wife not to interfere in other people’s relationships, but that’s not going to stop her! Quinn sets out to play on Ridge’s vulnerabilities. Watch for her to go to Ridge and impress upon him that Shauna’s a viable candidate to be his wife! Quinn has known Shauna for a while and can vouch for what a great woman she is. Of course, Brooke’s going to look at Shauna differently, but Ridge is a man who can’t help but be aware of Shauna’s more attractive qualities. Expect Ridge to seek out advice from someone in his family who knows all about complicated relationships. He’ll go to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and confide in her about the fact that he and Shauna have kissed a few times. Ridge feels that Brooke and Quinn being at odds is only adding to the stress to the
existing conflict between Brooke and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). Alas, Ridge continues to have a blind spot where his son is concerned. He holds others accountable for their actions, but as far as Thomas is concerned, Ridge feels that while his son has made mistakes, he should be forgiven. Could Ridge really be ready to move on from Brooke and to a life with Shauna? On paper, it sounds unlikely. However, Ridge and Brooke are at odds over his

son – neither appear willing to budge on this. And sultry Shauna knows exactly what she’s doing. She knows how to listen to a man. She has a way of making Ridge feel supported in a way that Brooke is currently incapable of doing. Just as forces conspired to keep Liam (Scott Clifton) and Hope (Annika Noelle) apart most of last year, it seems like in 2020, Brooke and Ridge are destined to drift further away from one another... In her early days when Stephanie (Susan Flannery) and even Caroline (Joanna Johnson) wrote Brooke off as an opportunist and liar, she held her ground, maintaining that her love for Ridge was the real deal. Today, Shauna also believes that her feelings for Ridge are genuine. That’s going to get under Brooke’s skin. She can ward off an opportunist more easily than she could someone who truly believes she has authentic emotions. Will Brooke lose Ridge to Shauna? TVS

Will accepts he doesn’t have long to live and surprises Sonny with plans for their brief future Despite the joy of being resurrected following his death a few years ago, Will’s now sadly paying the price for his return to the land of the living. He’s suffering a brain tumour, an awful side effect from the experimental revival serum Dr Rolf used to bring him back from the dead. Although he’s had preliminary treatment to arrest it, he knows he’s living with a ticking time bomb in his head, and it is threatening to separe him from Sonny, the love of his life, forever! Meanwhile, news has emerged that Will’s (Chandler Massey) only hope of surviving the health
crisis is if a cure is manufactured from Rolf’s original serum that counteracts it. Unfortunately, Eve (Kassie DePaiva) has the diary containing the protocol for the serum stolen, because she fears Jack (Matthew Ashford) will regain his memories and leave her if he accesses the cure to the serum that returned him to this mortail coil... While Will’s loved ones try bargaining with Eve to snaffle the diary, he seeks comfort with Sonny (Freddie Smith) as he frets that he’s being punished for all the ludicrous mistakes he’s made in the past. As Sonny does
his best to reassure Will that he’ll beat the crisis, he endures searing head pains... before collapsing at his beau’s feet. Rushed to hospital, Will’s devastated as Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) reports to him and Sonny that the tumour is getting bigger and impacting other areas of his brain, thus advancing his symptoms. Due to its rapid progression, there’s nothing more the doctors can do, leaving Will with just days left to live!
Desperate to avoid the inevitable, Will turns to writing as a distraction but when he forgets names and words, he lashes out at Sonny, before seeking solace in Marlena (Deidre Hall). dam’s re-entry into the lives of the Newman family has already caused many of the relationships around him to fracture. He interjects and accuses Adam of manipulating Sharon, and is further sickened when she agrees to help Adam... and leaves with him to attend court. Later, Rey angrily confronts her about Adam, scoffing at her tenet that the man is in crisis, and huffing that he seems to gets into her head very easily. Despite Sharon insisting she loves only Rey, he sniffs that he
can’t keep playing toxic games with her and insists there’s only one way for this to end. After packing his bags, he tells Sharon that he can’t save her if she won’t save herself. Giving her a goodbye kiss, Rey walks out, shutting the door on their relationship! Take that! Devastated, Sharon later visits Rey at the Athletic Club and implores him to rethink his decision to leave her. As he listens to her explaining away her feelings for Adam, Rey realises Sharon will always love him and admits that, while he’s scared for her future, he can’t save her from making this mistake. Feeling as though Sharon’s using him to hide her passion for Adam, Rey declares that they are done: and they are never, ever, ever… getting back together! TVS

he mood was festive and jovial at the 77th Annual Golden Globes, and host Ricky Gervais was his usual acerbic and hilarious self – but backstage the winners’ happiness was tempered by the tragedy of the raging bushfires decimating huge tracts of Australia. Many of the stars gave shout-outs and sent well wishes to their friends, families and fans down under. Oscar winner Tom Hanks, who nabbed the Cecil B. DeMille Award, told reporters in the press room that he was headed here to work with director Baz Luhrmann (Australia; The Great Gatsby) to play Colonel Tom Parker to Austin Butler’s Elvis. “Good thoughts to Australia for what’s going on down there,” Tom said. And Renée Zellweger, who scored Best Actress in a Drama for her flawless portrayal of Judy

Garland in Judy, has family and friends in Sydney and wants everyone there to know that she and everyone in her circle is thinking of them. “We need to, I don’t know, push the conversation in the right direction so that folks will give a little credence to the science that proves that we need to pay attention and take action,” the star implored. “It breaks my heart to watch [the fires] happening, and it’s just so overwhelming. It seems insurmountable, doesn’t it?” The Texan drew on personal experience of just how horrific and frightening out-of-control bushfires can be from her time in southern California. “I think I was evacuated five weeks, six weeks in a row for different fires,” she recalled. The Golden Globe winner adds that talking about the fires is not enough. “We need to do something,” she adds. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who won both for Best Actress for a TV Comedy and for Best TV Comedy for Fleabag, confirmed backstage that she’s making a special donation to help with the recovery. “We made a plan with Ralph & Russo, who are Italian designers and created this incredible couture suit, which is the most amazing thing I have ever worn,” she said. “We are going to auction it, and the money we raise from it is going to relief in Australia. I’m really excited to be a part of that.” Laura Dern, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, for her role in Marriage Story, also expressed her deep concern for everyone affected in Australia. “I’m here with [Big Little Lies co-star] Nicole [Kidman] and my beloved friend 16
Naomi Watts (Twin Peaks) and their families are very close to the fires,” Laura explained. “I’m sending so much love to Australia, and I pray with all our day jobs that we are also dedicating our lives to our environment and figuring out how we can save our home. Thankyou so much.” Russell Crowe, who won Best Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture, Television for The Loudest Voice, wasn’t present for the ceremony. He was busy on his property at Nana Glen – inland from Coffs Harbour, NSW – battling the unprecedented blazes. Presenter Jennifer Aniston read his acceptance speech, which the Gladiator star had provided in the event of him winning. “Make no mistake, the tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate-change-based,” Russ’s statement read. “We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy, and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is. here is a special place in the hearts of diehard fans for the inimitable Sally Spectra on The Bold and the Beautiful. Caught between the feuding fashion houses of Spectra and Forrester, Sally (Courtney Hope) has struggled to fit in and cement her place. She’s battled to be appreciated for her edgy, visionary fashion designs, as well as her affections for Wyatt, enduring scorn, suspicious and even the odd exploding building along the way. Yet we know this plucky underdog will never give up, whether it’s in the rag trade or in matters of the heart. Here, Courtney tells TV SOAP about her tug-of-war with Flo for Wyatt’s heart, the late, great OG Sally Spectra, and her abiding love of Australia.
She plays an underdog but Courtney Hope is a B&B fan fave
Courtney, where are you at the moment? Driving home from work. I was on The Price is Right as one of the guest models. It’s a fun thing to do in between working. It’s on the sound stage next to The Bold and the Beautiful.
On B&B, it’s an amazing time at the moment: one showdown after another. Yes! Seriously, and they just keep coming.
I’m glad to see Sally back with Wyatt. She’s put in a lot of effort for him. Yeah, she’s committed. She’s committed a lot of time and effort, and she loves him. It is the first time Sally’s really, really had an adult relationship, and that she’s really fallen in love with a man, and it’s heartbreaking, but I’m glad she gets another shot at it. I just hope she doesn’t get her heart broken again.
But Flo hasn’t given up: she’s still there, waiting patiently in the wings.
l
Yeah. She’s playing the victim card: “They made me do it.” That’s the thing, Sally’s been
through that before, when she stole all those designs. It’s like, as much as you could say, “Well, my grams made me do it” – which is technically the truth – I still did it. So, yes, own up to your mistakes and when you lose something, you lose something. Sally is a fan of second chances… but I think she definitely doesn’t want Flo to have a second chance, because that means that she’s on the outs.
fantastic. Oh my gosh: Sally would be so embarrassed!
We loved the original Sally Spectra (Darlene Conley). She was a great character on the show; larger than life.
Yeah, hopefully. It would be fun to be married and then quickly divorced, as the show goes!
Yeah, I know. I’m really sad I never got to meet her. I love watching her onscreen, and I’ve seen so many episodes of her and heard just, Oh my God, story after story, and I’m sad. I’m sad that I didn’t get to meet her, but I definitely try and pull in [elements of] her wisdom, and sometimes I definitely think, “What would Sally do? What would the original Sally Spectra do here?”
WWSD – what would Sally do? Exactly, exactly! WWSD?
So you’re originally from Texas? A lot of largerthan-life characters hail from the Lone Star State! Yes, I’m originally from Texas, so a Southern girl for sure. I love Texas so much!
Is there a bit of Texan attitude in Sally? Yeah, well, I definitely think there’s that Southern charm. Sally’s had a very interesting hard life. Her parents were carnies and they were gamblers, and had their own issues with substances and stuff like that, which we never fully touched on.
Sally’s never been married on B&B. No, nope. Sally’s never been married. She always is the girl who loses out to another girl.
Well, a lot of us are cheering you on, so hopefully you’ll get married on the show.
You mentioned to Wyatt in one episode that you guys should go on holidays to Fiji, which isn’t to far from us. Have you ever been to Australia, Courtney?
LOST IN LOVE? Courtney as Sally, with Darin Brooks as Wyatt
Yeah, I have actually. When I first got on the show, I’d only been on for six weeks maybe, and we went to Australia because Stephanie and Liam got married, and Sally flittered off on her little charter plane to Australia to go surprise Thomas. So that was my first welcome to the show. Welcome to Australia, and oh, it was amazing! I loved it. I loved Sydney. I loved Melbourne. It was really, really great. I want to go back; it’s on my list to actually go back.
I’ve probably ever done to be honest with you, but it was fantastic. It’s called LARPing, so it’s Live Action Role-Play. I mean, people from all around the world, they go, and some of them create their characters for years, and then go to these LARPs, and for four days you don’t break character, you are the thing. This one was Harry Potter-themed or wizardthemed. There were goblins and wizards and werewolves. It was crazy!
So you’re a big Harry Potter fan and went to all the castles? Oh yep. Yeah. I’m a die-hard Harry Potter fan, and we went to a wizard school last year, and that was the most fun. And the most random thing I think
You’re also really right into fitness, aren’t you? Yes. Very much so. It’s a massive part of my life.
You kickbox, too. Yes. I took kickboxing up probably when I was about 19.
I just fell in love with it, and I feel like it complemented my dance ability really well.
I think Annika Noelle, who plays Hope, is also a big kickboxing exponent? Yeah. One of our first conversations was about kickboxing and Muay Thai. I think she did Muay Thai.
Imagine seeing women kickboxing fight on B&B! Wouldn’t that be exciting? Oh my gosh, yes! That would be amazing. I always said they need to bring the gym back on the show because there’s so many people who work out. We’d love to pick a fight in the gym. It could get really interesting... TVS
That sounds like a fascinating storyline! You’re descended from carnies – you know, they should explore that!
I’d like to see a clown from the carnival turn up to Forrester as a dark secret from your carnival past, say... Oh my gosh, that would be

STREET FIGHTIN’ Hunky multi-threat makes his mark on Neighbours and reveals what makes him tick...
B
arry Conrad made his debut on Neighbours in a look-at-me way – by taking on one of its faves in a full-on, no-holdsbarred fight club! Newcomer Kane trades fists with Ned (Ben Hall) in a powerful storyline, the effects of which are felt long after the stoush is over. Yet such a strong debut is typical of the larger-than-life Barry. In a short time the singer/ songwriter, actor and model has become one of our most versatile and talented stars, blowing away audiences on The X Factor, starring in big musicals such as Hairspray and Grease, and releasing his own music. Here, he chats to TV SOAP about his role on Neighbours, his experiences on The X Factor, life on the musical stage, his festive single and eating for a living.
Tell us all about Ramsay Street’s Kane Jones. Kane’s this big fearless gym rat: tough, cocky and unfazed by pain or risk. He’s pretty complicated, though. There’s a lot more to him than what people might think. You were also in Neighbours Fight Club. What is the first rule of that club? Yeah, you already know.
Words by Charles Purcell
Hey, Barry – you just broke the first rule of Neighbours Fight Club! Ha-ha… busted! Your fight scene was pretty intense. What was it like doing it? Did you get hurt? It was so much fun! It’s a first for the show and definitely an experience I won’t forget. I love how it totally embodies Kane’s fearlessness, too. I definitely got a few battle scars in the process. But that’s to be 20
expected, I’m glad about it! Gotta give a shout-out to my scene partner Ben Hall, plus Chris Wilson for getting us fight-ready, and our director Guy Strachan. Now one of the female extras during the fight shoot asked if you’re that cocky in real life. So – are you? Ha-ha, she did actually ask that. Nah... I don’t think so, anyway. Who else would you like to fight on Neighbours? How about taking on Toadfish? Or Paul Robinson? I’m not sure how that would play out! Some of the fans have asked for a fight between me and Harrison Luna. And I reckon I’d take down Tim Robards in a fight, easy! What’s in store for your character on Ramsay Street Neighbours? Will you be back soon? And will there be any chance of romance for your character, you think? You’ll see Kane soon enough. As for what’s in store, who knows? Anything can happen on Ramsay Street. And, hey, I don’t think a bit of romance is ever a bad situation! What’s it like on the set of Neighbours? Fun times? So much fun. Coming in as the new guy, what I noticed right away was a strong sense of
WALL OF FAME Barry’s on the road to stardom
family and history. It’s a great environment and everyone made me feel so welcome. You’re a singer, too. Maybe they should let you do a few of your musical numbers on Neighbours? Yeah, I sing and write songs. That would be awesome. A Kane and Bea collaboration, too, maybe? You look like you take care of yourself. How do you keep yourself fit? Thanks – I’m pretty big on health and fitness. I work out most days, do intermittent fasting and basically try to get as much sleep as I can. You’re an underwear model, too. What qualifications do you need to be an underwear model these day? Ha-ha, I don’t really consider myself an underwear model, but yeah, I’ve been known to get into my jocks for work. As for qualifications? In my case, probably to have just one burger, rather than my standard two-burger minimum. There a lot of shots of you on Instagram without a shirt. Hope someone bought you a top for Christmas! There are? Don’t know what
you’re talking about, ha-ha! If it’s a good shirt, I’ll consider it. Speaking of presents, tell us about your latest single. I love Christmas: it’s my favourite time of year! This single is one of my favourite classics, my take on Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. You can find it on Spotify, iTunes and all the usual stores. Have you always wanted to sing, Barry? Yeah, ever since I can remember... You were a big star on The X Factor. What was that like? Pretty intense? It was one of the hardest, most rewarding experiences of my life. I lost my second mother Audrey to cancer during the show. Can’t begin to describe how tough that was. But I also found out I’d made the top 12 while in my favourite city – New York – got to do the national tour, and learned so much about the industry and myself. Made some awesome mates along the way, too. You were in Violet, Hairspray, Grease, Beautiful:The Carole King Musical and Madiba. What do you love about
doing musical theatre, then? I love that it’s basically a fusion of my skill set: I get to sing, act, dance. I love that it’s fresh every show because each audience is different, and that anything can happen. It’s an adrenalin rush! I notice you also have inspirational messages on your Instagram. Do you like it when you can combine entertaining with spreading important messages? For sure! With what I do, whether it’s through my music or an acting role, I always hope it’ll impact someone in a positive way. I think it’s important that if you have a platform that you use it to give voice to things that matter. What projects do you have coming up after Neighbours? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out about that... What else should we know about you, Baz? I’m a massive foodie! If I weren’t in entertainment, I’d be a professional eater... TVS

LeanON ME Friendship turns to passion as makes moves on – but with the Rebecchi marriage in tatters, will he become the man in the middle?
O
nce rock-solid #couplegoals on Ramsay Street, Dipi and Shane’s marriage has been crumbling for months. He plans to sue Lassiter’s over the secret camera sex scandal; can’t agree on Kirsha moving to Sydney; and his blossoming friendship with colleague Roxy made things awkie. Through it all, an overwhelmed Dipi has found a soft shoulder to lean on in supportive friend Gary. Unfortunately, this move has only agitated Shane, who’s always seen Gary as an uneducated oaf! Growing closer to Roxy (Zima Anderson), Shane (Nicholas Coghlan) recently succumbed to a passionate 22
kiss with her in a moment of weakness, and although both worked hard to keep Dipi (Sharon Johal) in the dark at first, she guiltily confessed all to the wronged wife, damning herself as the scarlet woman in the Rebecchi marriage! Devastated by her husband’s betrayal, Dipi walks out and takes refuge at the Canning house, where her good friend Sheila (Colette Mann) nurtures her with sage advice – and a worried Gary (Damian Richardson) hovers over her, desperate to ease her pain. Unable to forgive Shane, Dipi remains holed up at the Cannings’, leaning on Gary more with each passing hour. Finally, she can’t stem her heartache any longer – and,
as Gary puts his arms around her, Dipi falls into his welcome embrace in floods of tears. It’s a perfectly platonic scene of one friend comforting another in misery, but as Kyle (Chris Milligan) walks through the front door and spies the cuddle, his surprise turns to shock as he naturally jumps to conclusions, and presumes his father’s putting the hard word on his neighbour’s wife! Fortunately, Gary and Dipi are able to calm Kyle’s suspicions but, behind closed doors, it’s clear Gary is starting to think very differently about Dipi, one of the few people who treat him with respect. Following another upsetting moment involving Shane, Dipi crashes to a new low, and yet
again finds herself seeking out Gary for comfort. Once more playing her rock, Gary quickly responds, and hoping to cheer her up, takes her into the spa to ease her stress levels. Initially, his efforts work as they share a little banter and wine – until the moment takes a dramatic twist when an overcome Dipi snogs Gary! Reeling in shock, Gary wonders if the Rebecchi marriage is now so broken that it can’t be repaired, but he must also face the fact that if he continues playing along with Dipi’s advances, he risks becoming “the other man” in a scenario that ultimately mirrors the one that drove Dipi from Shane in the first place. Dunh, dunh, dunh!

ane Harris was always pegged as a Straighty 180 since the first day she came to Erinsborough in 1986. Over the years, the few comeback visits she’s paid have done nothing to dispel that view. Even during her most recent return, in which she temporarily filled in for Susan as acting school principal, she earned jibes for her uptight personality... until Paul forced her to accept that she had transformed into a younger version of her hardened battleaxe of a grandmother: Mrs Mangel! Despite a brief bid to spice up her life with a fling with Paul, Jane ultimately returned
to England, promising to work on changing her old-fashioned outlook on life. Now, as she returns to Erinsborough and her beloved Ramsay Street on business – and for a special event – it becomes quickly apparent that Plain Jane (Annie Jones) is a new woman! Patently taking Paul’s (Stefan Dennis) advice to heart, she’s a softer, more upbeat version of her former self, and he’s delighted by the differences in her. Naturally curious, Paul suspects there’s more to Jane’s transformation than just his advice, and is thrilled when to hear she’s in love.
On her last visit to town in 2018, Jane shook off much of her hardened exterior when she found herself falling in love with old pal Paul. Unaware that Terese, Leo (Tim Kano) and Amy (Zoe Cramond) were conspiring to bring her home to distract Paul – who was struggling to deal with Terese and Leo’s new romance – Jane moved into his penthouse and soon accepted his invitation for a drink. As the evening drew to a close, Paul and Jane shared a kiss, sending a jolting surge of electricity rippling through her body! Charmed by Paul, and
tempted by him to let loose, Jane even had her way with him in a school classroom, even laughing off the embarrassment when they were caught in the act! Eventually, she learned of the plot to have her keep Paul occupied, and discovering the heinous acts he’d recently perpetrated, a shocked Jane challenged his behaviour, demanding that he admit he still loved Terese! Paul’s silence told Jane everything she needed to know and, disappointed in him, she walked out and returned to merry old England. TVS
Revealing that she’s met a new man in England, and is hopelessly besotted with him, Jane announces that she’s invited him to Erinsborough and soon everybody will be able to meet him, thus proving she’s no longer Mrs Mangel reincarnated. Settling into her suite at Lassiter’s hotel, Jane couldn’t be happier, and on the day of her beau’s anticipated arrival, she sets the scene for romance, strewing the bed with petals... Unfortunately, her romantic reverie’s shattered by the news that her newfound love isn’t coming down under after all! Devastated, Jane can’t help but show that she’s still
vulnerable to the risk of heartbreak, just like everyone else. Unable to maintain her brave façade any longer, she looks at her hotel bed and bursts into tears, crashing to the floor in the throes of a full-blown emotional breakdown! Poor Jane! Can anybody save her from the indignity of recapturing the hardened personality traits of her past that have long protected her from such heartbreak? Will she be motivated to seek out Paul for comfort, and potentially put an awkward crimp in his marriage to Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou)? Stay tuned to see this play out...

He’s also trying to absorb the fallout of his shattered friendship with his best friend and colleague Shay (Ryan Corr). His former pal’s broken all the rules to help Eadie, in the process compromising their scientific discoveries – and it’s all led to the theft of their prized disease vaccination. On the set of Black Swan
Now a bona fide Hollywood tour de force, Natalie Portman took her time finding her way in movies
Lucy in the Sky
N
atalie Portman has always had to contend with high expectations – mainly her own. Blessed with flawless features, precocious intelligence, and a genius gift for acting, she never believed in the massive hype that has followed her ever since her momentous big-screen debut in Luc Besson’s Léon: The Professional, aged just 12. The major turning point came with Black Swan, the 2010 movie that earned her an Oscar for her portrayal of a demonic ballerina. On the cusp of her thirties, that experience convinced her to look for more audacious roles in edgier indie projects, rather than working within Annihilation
Words by Jan Janssen
the chew em up Hollywood studio system. “I had my first child after Black Swan, so it kind of ups the stakes of what you want to do because it’s time away from your kid,” Natalie, 38, explains. “Now it feels like I want to be so passionate and committed to what I’m doing – it feels like an incredible use of my time. You have, obviously, very important people waiting for you at home.” However, it’s her latest project Lucy in the Sky that could well mark the defining performance of her career. Natalie plays Lucy Cola, an astronaut who spirals out of control when she returns to terra firma after a lengthy mission orbiting the Earth aboard the space station. “I don’t want to go to work and play, like, a harried mum,” Natalie says. “I am a harried mum. It’s fun to get to go to work and be a pop star. Or an astronaut, which I just did. Or a military operative in a science-fiction landscape, like in Annihilation. It’s like getting to lead another life. A little Superman action: one thing by day, one thing by night. “I just feel weird if I’m [making a movie] pretending to be a mum to some kid who’s not my kid. So, I’ve been trying out these wild

“It’s a beautiful challenge to be the best person looking back from the mirror you can be” [cinematic] experiences...” Having also directed her first movie – A Tale of Love and Darkness – in 2015, Natalie’s anxious to get behind the camera again and has recently begun working on a new screenplay she hopes to finish by the end of the year. In the meantime, she has just been anointed as the new female Thor in the upcoming Marvel Comics Universe blockbuster Love and Thunder, set to begin shooting later this year. “I’ve been working a little bit, you know, I get the kids to bed, do the dishes, do the laundry, and then write for an hour, which has been... fun!” the Jerusalem-born actress says. These days Natalie’s back in America again after a five-year sojourn in Paris while her husband Benjamin Millepied was serving as director of the ballet department of the Paris Opera. Since 2017 they have been living in Los Feliz, a chic, hillside neighbourhood in LA. She owns a second home in Montecito, a $6.5 million Barton Myers-designed post-modern house on the California coast near Santa Barbara. It serves as a holiday home due to its more isolated setting. She still has fond memories of her time in Paris, saying, “It’s very stimulating to find yourself part of a new culture and try to adapt yourself to that. It changes you... you have a different routine, different kinds of conversations with people.” Although a movie star since a tender age, Natalie’s studiously tried to avoid Hollywood and its temptations for almost her entire life. Her father, an Israeli obstetrician/ fertility specialist, and her American artist mother raised her to be a strong, independentminded woman. They were very protective of her in her years as an aspiring teen actress. “My parents had many long conversations with me before they would allow me to keep working as an actor,” the star explains. “They had nothing to do with the entertainment industry, but they, of course, were aware of so many stories about young actors becoming 32
drug addicts or whose lives fell apart as adults. My parents were very worried about how my life would be affected by my work, and I had to argue a lot to be able to work.” Her insular upbringing made Natalie wary of showbiz and that may explain her ambivalent attitude towards her career in her twenties while struggling to find the serious, mature roles that better reflected her sense of who she was. “Then I did films like Goya’s Ghosts and V for Vendetta which were also very serious and mature roles,” she adds. “Goya’s Ghost was one film where I really got deeply into the character, because I got to a point where I was spending two months living with Goya and his paintings. It was an experience that I’ll never forget, even though very few people went to see the film. But it was a film where I really felt I was living inside the character.” Outwardly generous and friendly to a fault, Natalie has never been as aggressive in pursuing her career as many of Hollywood’s top female stars. Her keen intellect and high sense of social consciousness – she’s been an active voice in the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements and previously involved in micro-financing projects for women in Africa – have undoubtedly reflected her relative immunity to the trappings of fame. Still intensely self-critical, there’s finally a growing sense that the star’s closer than ever to attaining her own idealised vision of herself. Natalie explains, “The disappointments are always in myself and, like, when you’re faced day to day with someone looking at you, it’s like a mirror that you have to yourself, and you can see your own good behaviour and bad behaviour. And it’s a beautiful challenge to be the best person in the mirror that you can be. I mean, I don’t beat myself up over it, but I’m not always as generous as I feel like I could be.” TVS

44
ex-husband – Steve Johnson! Initially choosing to lay low with his devoted cohort Princess Gina (a brainwashed Hope), while he ironed out a plot to torment the people around him, Stefano couldn’t resist slipping out into the public eye over Christmas to catch sight of his lifelong obsession – Marlena – a move that riled his jealous ex-wife Kate, who knows he’s back... and still loves him.
However, Stefano’s (Stephen Nichols) decision to infiltrate the hospital Christmas party dressed as Santa backfires badly when Steve’s wife Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) spies Father Christmas acting oddly and quizzes him. Fearing exposure, Stefano covers his tracks and slips away unnoticed, leaving an unsettled Kayla to wonder who was in the red suit...
Meanwhile, Stefano’s tangible panic at being rumbled rises after he sends Marlena (Deidre Hall) a few telltale gifts, leaving her wondering about the identity of her admirer. Discovering the presents, Kate (Lauren Koslow) is livid about Stefano’s preoccupation with Marlena and threatens to expose his presence in Salem – unless he starts paying her more attention.
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS NEW EPS AVAILABLE FOR 30 DAYS AFTER FIRST BROADCAST Being the centre of attention is something that Stefano must get used to as Kayla and Marlena conspire with John (Drake Hogestyn) and Justin (Wally Kurth) to theorise about the freaky festive events and who might’ve been playing jolly St Nick. As the walls close in on Stefano, he’s forced into taking desperate measures to protect his privacy. Donning Steve’s famous eye patch, he surprises Kayla, Justin, Marlena and John with “Steve’s” surprise return home! It’s a bold gambit! Flabbergasted that her ex-husband has suddenly resurfaced after divorcing her and snubbing all contact for several months, Kayla confronts “Steve”, demanding answers! Thrusting a photo of their first wedding at him, she wants to know how and why he could’ve thrown away everything they’d built together over the last three decades. Scrambling to protect his identity, “Steve” angrily rounds on Kayla, ultimately shocking her when he reveals he’s in love with another woman! Devastated, Kayla asks about the woman who has stolen Steve’s heart away from her; but he offers no concrete answers, leaving her upset by his callous treatment. And Stefano must maintain the masquerade when Jack (Matthew Ashford) visits him, ripping into his “brother” for the way he’s hurt Kayla and behaved towards his family. Desperate to get rid of Jack, Stefano deliberately confuses him by lashing out at him, forcing Jack to wonder what’s happened to the Steve Johnson everyone knows and loves! John’s wondering the same thing as he vows to get to the bottom of his “old friend” inexplicably returning to Salem. Thinking Hope (Kristian Alfonso) can help him, John grills her about Steve, unaware he’s really speaking to Princess Gina – who’s anxious to protect Stefano and keep him all to herself! TVS

GUESS WHAT? Chloe tells Kevin she’s pregnant!
New year, new baby!
Chloe surprises Kevin with great expectations – but the joy may be dampened by her closeness with a destructive Billy
Last year was one of mixed fortunes for Kevin and Chloe. For the first part of 2019, they remained in hiding, on the run from the authorities who wanted her for the crimes she’d committed against Adam. Eventually, though, they were reunited when Adam kidnapped her and forced Kevin into doing his bidding in exchange for her safe return! Once Chloe was safely back in Kevin’s loving arms and Adam promised not to prosecute her for trying to kill him, she and Kevin forged ahead with their bright future, culminating in them spending a joyous Christmas with their daughter Bella. So far, so good... As the new year dawns promisingly, Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Kevin (Greg Rikaart) reflect on the precious time they’ve spent with Bella, but as Chloe cryptically promises that 2020
is only going to get better, a miserable Santa appears, bemoaning that Christmas comes and goes too quickly. Sensing that he’s lonely when he remarks that Kevin and Chloe are obviously very much in love and confesses that he’s divorced, the pair work to cheer up Santa and succeed in giving him hope for the new year. Afterwards, Chloe intrigues Kevin when she says she has one more special gift for him. On the patio at Crimson Lights, they’re taking in the festive atmosphere when Chloe gives Kevin a pair of baby booties – and reveals that she’s pregnant! Woah! Overjoyed at the prospect of having another child together, Kevin says, “Merry Christmas to us!” and tells the coffee house patrons that he’s going to be a daddy again! Sharing their blessed news with their loved ones, Chloe and Kevin couldn’t be happier
– but their family bliss could be ruined by Chloe’s ongoing devotion to her troubled ex: Billy (Jason Thompson). Anxious to help him beat his demons, Chloe again lends Billy a sympathetic ear as he confides his troubles in her, having already proved instrumental in helping him seek professional help for his mental problems. Given he was the father of Delia, the beloved daughter they lost, and also share the same hatred of her killer Adam (Mark Grossman), Chloe feels duty bound to help him survive what ails him... As she gets deeper entwined with Billy and his problems, she could risk pushing Kevin too far. He may not be able to tolerate her friendship with Billy and this could put a strain on the relationship – just when they should be celebrating the impending arrival of their bundle of joy. TVS 45
