You’ve achieved so much at a young age – and your breakout role was almost four years ago ( Stranger Things , 2016). How have you grown since the start of your career? I think the general rule is that you only have to do something for 30 days until it becomes a habit – so in terms of being on set I feel more comfortable. When you feel more comfortable, you are more likely to add your own input and put your own creative spin on things.

20 MILLIE IS… ❤ One of the youngest nominees in Emmy Award history. ❤ The youngest UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. ❤ The youngest person to feature on Time ’s list of the world’s 100 most infl uential people.

taught me a lot for sure. She is of course powerful, but almost more than that she is incredibly loyal and a protector. Her loyalty and strength inspire me – and that’s two qualities I really aspire to have.

You have been on Time magazine’s list of 100 of the world’s most infl uential people. What was that like? Just truly humbling. When you look at the list of names and what they have achieved both professionally and from an activist standpoint, it was just so humbling to be considered alongside them. How do you hope to use your infl uence for good? I am an ambassador for UNICEF and that is literally one of the best things that has ever happened to me – I am so excited about what else is to come. I also try and promote kindness among my fans. The world can be a scary place but if we can all show a bit more kindness, we can make it a slightly better place. On days off , when you’re being a regular teen, what do you like to get up to? When I am not working I spend time with my family and friends. It’s so important in life to surround yourself with those people who make you feel good, who you trust and have known for years, so I try and do as much of that as I possibly can. Actor, UNICEF ambassador, beauty entrepreneur – how do you keep slaying all the diff erent aspects of your life? I love what I do, and I give everything to it. One of the biggest things to being successful in life is to always keep learning – never only rule you should follow is be yourself, which really ties in nicely with everything I am doing. Fashion is constantly evolving and your tastes change as you get older. I know there are things I never thought I would wear a couple of years ago that I love now. Congrats on your new beauty line, Florence by Mills. What inspired you to launch it? Thank you. I wanted to create a line for my friends and for my generation – a brand that we could relate to and that could refl ect our

self-expression, but at the same time

could still be good for you and for your skin. What does beauty mean to you? Beauty to me means being individual and comfortable with your own style. That is why with this beauty line, I wanted to be absolutely clear that we are not telling anybody how they should look – just providing some products that can really help. think you know it all. Who are the girls or women who have inspired you? There are many great women from history and currently – but I have always really loved Audrey Hepburn. Your collab with Converse shares messages of ‘spreading love’ and ‘being yourself’ – why are those messages important for girls? If you are constantly trying to be somebody else, you are never going to be happy. There are so many great aspects of social media but there is also a side of it that tells us as young girls how we should look. It’s all about fi nding your own style and what you feel comfortable in. What do you love most about fashion? The fact there are no rules – the Speaking at UNICEF’s World Children’s Day conference. Audrey Hepburn, Millie’s fave. Launching her brand, Florence by Mills.

We caught up with Briar Nolet and Victoria Baldesarra to chat about life in the limelight.

Hey Briar and Victoria! As TV stars and professional dancers, it sounds like you are living the dream. Is it what you’ve always wanted? Briar: Performing has defi nitely been a part of our lives growing up, so I feel we’ll always have that love for performing. Victoria: We both came from dance studios in Canada. I do think because of where we’ve trained (a place of such a high calibre), it gave us room to push forward and aspire to be professional dancers.

Last year, you both headlined The Next Step dance tour in Australia. How do you make that happen? B: It’s a lot of work in acting and dancing. It’s of course a show, so we play our characters but on top of that we all train in dancing. It’s been an awesome opportunity to play our characters and ourselves on tour. V: It’s quite a bit of work. Most of the cast worked all summer on set of the show for Season 7. Then we wrapped and the next day got onto a fl ight for the tour. This doesn’t happen for many people, headlining a tour just as dancers. It’s kind of unheard of; like one in a million.

With so many rehearsals, how do you stay driven? B: I love anything that’s a challenge so when we have to rehearse all day I’m like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ What motivates us is each other for sure. V: Whenever I’m tired or complaining about being in rehearsals, I think of the moments when I wasn’t working or any of those moments where I was like, ‘Aww, I wish I was on set today.’ I try to savour every moment.

Say you don’t ace an audition or do well in a comp, how do you overcome setbacks? B: I use it as motivation. Both of us, being super competitive in the most friendly way possible, have that determination and mindset of wanting to do our best. Even if I don’t do as well as I hoped, I just take it back to the studio and think of it as, ‘What did they see?’ I listen to their comments. V: It’s like a lesson – ‘OK, that wasn’t good because of X, Y and Z, how can I fi x this to be better?’ Both of us are always striving to be better, which is important because it is super easy in this business to be lazy and just be like, OK cool I’m a star now.

Do you have any tips for staying motivated? B: I love watching videos. I used to watch videos of dances that inspired me. I think just having people surround you that are very like-minded. Also eat well, get the necessary sleep, and just have a good schedule. V: I agree, I’m such a fi lm junkie, I could watch like, 20 fi lms in one day to study acting and actresses, also dancers too. Like, what can I take from them? Also, staying in the right circle of people. As a kid, I always knew what I wanted and I wasn’t going to let anyone’s judgement or any of my failures get in the way. B: Everyone’s going to have their opinions about you too. You can’t let what people say aff ect you. What’s the best advice you can share with TG s? B: Never stay comfortable and always strive to be better. We both started the show when we were really young and we had so much room for growth and every year I feel like I would want to come back better. There’s so much we can learn from each other, let’s inspire each other and lift each other up. PHOTOGRAPHY DUNCAN BARNES
