Among the signifi cant historic and cultural sites to visit, the iconic Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Kyoto is famous for parallel row of gates called Senbon Torii. These are donated by individuals and companies, and you’ll fi nd their names inscribed on the back. Each gate costs 400,000 yen ($5394). The shrine is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice, and there’s also a mountain hiking trail. If you have some spare time, it would be a good idea to check out the Tokyo Tower and to pay your respects at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park . TVS
