About Us Neighbourhood House, Community House or Adult Learning Centre, whatever the name, these places are the heart of the Knox community. More recently referred to as Learn Local organisations, we provide social, educational and recreational activities within a welcoming and supportive environment. We are here to meet a wide range of community needs with high quality peoplefocused services for every stage of life. Whilst you can “Learn Local” with a host of short courses and nationally accredited training programs we offer so much “more than just short courses”. Coonara is a registered childcare provider with occasional child care and a three year old activity group. Mountain District Learning Centre offers adult VCE classes and an alternative learning environment for young people which includes VCAL from Year 10. MDLC and Coonara are also registered training organisations offering qualifications in children’s services, disability work, training and IT to name a few. Volunteers are a valuable asset to our organisations. They contribute to the governance, administration, gardening and support groups. New volunteers are always welcome and will receive training and support. We also offer many opportunities to participate in your community apart from learning. These include community food gardens, playgroups, book clubs, young mothers group, support groups, sewing and patchwork groups, bus trips, garden club, weight loss groups, activities for adults with special needs, free Internet access and more!
