"Images of America Flat Rock" This newly published history of our city is now a permanent part of our library thanks to the generosity of a former president of our liistorical Society, Lila Fedokovitz. She 'spent more than a year helping to compile this very interesting book. We look forward to a visit from Lila when she will share some of her experiences while putting this book together. Thank you, Lila

Page 3A Senior Spelling Bee On Thursday, April 14, our Recreation Center played host to the Wayne County sponsored Senior Spelling Bee. Twenty Senior citizens spelled words offered by Judge James Kersten of the 33 rd District Court. Two of our Towers residents participated, and three others served as "support." A buffet luncheon was served before the pre-registered spellers took their seats facing the Judge on the raised podium. These citizens had not been given a list of words to study and therefore DID NOT come "prepared." This Bee was a real challenge because many participants hadn't been in a spelldown for 50 years or more. (I hadn't been in one since 19431) There were five spellers left when I went down. to Carol Wolas (217), first runner-up. She was given a slow cooker (crockpot) as her prize. Many thanks to Suzanne Beattie (403), Peg Bobier (604), and Beverly O'Dell (512) for their loving support.

The Prez Sez (cont. from Page 1) The Officers have attended every training opportunity, and we have been told by other Co-ops that it is nice to see Flat Rock Towers represented so well. I would like to see a kinder, gentler campaign this year. Why can't we make our selections on basic truths: kindness, caring and honesty? If we have more than one person nominated for an office,Jet's not tear each other apart by false statements. I want to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to express my leadership abilities. We have a great bunch of residents here. It has been a fun year, and I have enjoyed the job very much.

~~

SMOKE-FREE BUILDING? We will be voting on a Proposal to make our residence a SMOKE-FREE building. This issue will be discussed at all May Floor Meetings, prior to the May 16 Council meeting. EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND YOUR FLOOR MEETING AND VOICE YOUR OPINION. THEN YOU WILL VOTE BY SECRET BALLOT IN YOUR FLOOR MEETING.

Your Floor Rep. will then take your vote to the Council Meeting. PLEASE participate and exercise your voting right. Remember, this is what being a Co-op is all about. You, the residents, decide what your residence rules will be • .This is your Co-op. If you don't participate n the decision, you shouldn't complain about the outcome. This vote is where you voice your agreement or disagreement on this issue.
