On Saturday, September 17 Huroc Park will be a-buzz with activity from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All sorts of fun and games are planned for people of all ages. Our Community Room will become a g~~~~: BINGO place, where aficiWhen you have to onados can enjoy their favorite game. On June 6, 7, and 8 The Tri-County Company washed all our windows, both inside and out.

The two gentlemen made the work seem so easy because they were so quick and efficient.

SMOKE-FREE Building ?

Our vote at May's General Meeting ended in a deadlock (tie). There were three options on the ballot: 1. No change, 2. Smoke-free, and 3.

Smoke-free with a grandfather clause. The grandfather clause means that all current residents who are smokers could continue to smoke in their apartments, but ALL new residents would have to be Non-smokers.

(It could be several years before the building is smoke-free.

The first option and the third received the exact same number of votes. It was decided at June's General Meeting that we would bring up the Smoke-free issue again in six months.

New Benches and New Electric Grill

At our June General Meeting, we also voted to purchase new benches for our back entrance.

We will be getting two five-foot benches and one six-footer. The old benches will be discarded as they are no longer safe to use. We also authorized purchase of a new electric grill for our patio area. The old grill was not functional, so we will now be able to schedule some bar-be-cues.

Meet Chef Barney: On Thursday, July 7,

Chef Barney will prepare a complete meal for us in our Community Room - kitchen. Pot roast, mashed potatoes & gravy, carrots, salad, rolls & butter, and dessert will cost $5, and will be served at 4:00 p.m. These complete meals will be served every month. Dates and menus will be posted on bulletin boards.

Sign up sheets in office; $5 will be collected.

Shopping Trips-Every Tuesday our City bus comes at 11 a.m. and takes us to a shopping center so we can do our weekly shopping. The bus brings us home before 3 p.m. The sign-up sheet is on the First Floor bulletin Board weekly_ Saturday Night at the Movies In order to resume our movie night, we need a new chairman, as Mary Bell (316) Is temporarily unable to host our movies. If YOU are able to get movies to present on Saturday nights, let Suzanne know. It's great FUN!

Recipe of the Month- Makes 48 Peanut Buner Chocolate Bars 1/2 c butter (margarine), softened 1 C Splenda 1/3 c firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 c milk 1/2 c creamy peanut butter 1 egg 1 t vanilla 1 c flour 1 c quick oats, uncooked 1/2 t baking soda 1/4 t salt 3/4 c mini semi-sweet chocolate bits Beat butter, Splenda, & brown sugar until well combined.

Stir in milk, peanut butter, egg, & vanilla until blended . Graduallu mx in combined flour, oats, baking soda, & salt uttil blended. Add chocolate bits.

Bake @ 350 for 21 mins. Cool & cut.

Interview Jeanette Bunea (304) was born in Trenton, MI, 91 years ago. She went to school in Ecorse as a child, but received her High School diploma from Adult Education in Monroe at age 67.

She was introduced to her future husband by her cousin. She said she "didn't like him at first, but married him anyway." They had 7 children (6 sons, 1 daughter.) He died of bone cancer after 38 years of marriage.

One of the jobs Jeanette liked most was in the Ecorse Library. She's Grandmother to 7, Great-Grandma to 13.

Jeanette enjoys playing BINGO, bunco, and slot machines at the Casino. She looks forward to our 'Crafts with Laurie' every month, and going to her 'Red Hat' meetings Is a high point in her life.

Jeanette moved into Flat Rock Towers when it opened - August, 1989. She has served as Vice President, and was Third Floor Rep. or Alternate many times.

She cherishes her 'treasures' - the many handmade gifts she's received from her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren over the years.

PARADE On Saturday, September 17, our Towers residents will be invited to ride on a float to the festivities at Huroc Park at Riverfest. As the date gets closer, more details will be forthcoming. This is a citywide event for all ages. The Riverfest has not been held fora few years, so we're excited it's back!

SAVE THOSE LABELS! Continue to clip those labels and logos from Betty Crocker products, Campbell, General Mills, Progresso soup, Saran wrap, and many more. Put them in the box that's just inside the Community Room. All these labels, logos, and codes can be converted to money that will buy playground equipment or something else for Flat Rock Elementary Schools. This is an ongoing project that is so worthwhile and so easy.

Rally Picnic July 29 is the date set for the Rally Picnic at Willow Metropark. Everything's FREE, it's great FUN, food's wonderful, and the fellowship is fantastic! Sign up sheet is in office for the bus. Ask in office for more details.

Thanks to Okie Tackett and the VFW for s:=our new flag. We are attempting to put a spotlight on it, but so far without success.

The difference between a flower and a weed is a judgment.

Our little beagle friends, Molly and Sadie, will be visiting us in July. They discovered bedbugs in only two apartments last time, which are now free of the little pests after two treatments.
