Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Limited ABN 11 068 049 178, AFSL/Australian Credit Licence 237879 A1455027 OUT_24591873, 20/07/2022 IT has been three years since Brian Nicholas bought Cooroy tyre, mechanical and 4x4 centre, Tyrepower Cooroy, and the business has been on a roll ever since.

Brian, who previously worked in management rights, said he bought the business after moving to the Sunshine Coast for a more “relaxing lifestyle”.

“This business came up for sale and I saw it as a great opportunity.

Brian said he now has four fabulous staff and the business continues to grow.

“Jonothon, previously of Cooroy Mechanical and Exhaust, is now working here and leading the charge in all things mechanical – services, brakes, suspension, troubleshooting, engine rebuild – basically everything we need.

“We look forward to continuing the great service that Jonothan provided to his old customers and also all new ones.

“Justin is my 2IC. If he's not helping you sort out what you need, then he's out the back working on your vehicle.

“Nick’s been here at Tyrepower Cooroy coming up six years now and he is our key tyre fitter and looks after all your tyre needs.

“And Keegan is our casual. This is his first job out of school and is quickly learning the trade.”

Brian said like many businesses they were impacted by Covid but believe things are now almost back to normal.

“We experienced major impacts of Covid and supply chain issues but the majority of these have now been addressed, although we still do suffer some challenges.”

Brian said it is the support of Cooroy locals that has helped the business survive and thrive.

“The feedback I get from Cooroy locals is they like spending money locally. They would rather buy from their home town than go somewhere else.

“We get a lot of support from locals and we look to do the right thing for them.

“I love Cooroy and looking after our customers.”

Brian said with the Christmas holidays coming up, now is the time to check your vehicle is safe.

“For anyone thinking of travelling, get a safety check to determine tyres are in a good condition and make sure you get your car serviced.”

For all your tyres and vehicle servicing, call Brian and the team at Tyrepower Cooroy on (07) 5447 6900.

New smiles for long- established dental practice

AFTER 15 years in Cooroy, a popular husband and wife prosthetist and dentist team is moving to Tewantin.

Dentist Dr Arosha Weerakoon and prosthetist Rob Arthur have bought Dr Frances Wing's Dental Surgery in the Cooloola Centre located in the heart of Tewantin. The surgery is now called Tewantin Family Dental, and Arosha and Rob welcome everybody to their new dental 'home'.

Arosha said, “I am really grateful that Fran entrusted me with her practice, staff, and the ongoing care of her patients.”

Fran served the Tewantin, Cooroy and surrounding communities for nearly 30 years. During this time, she built a loyal following of patients, many of whom she calls friends, whom she will miss greatly. Fran is grateful for the trust, friendship, and support many of her patients extended to her. She will miss working with not only her wonderful staff but her patients as well. But it is time.

Dr Fran Wing said while she will miss her Tewantin family and staff, the time has come to step back and live some of the other dreams she's been dreaming. "It's not easy to do, but it is the right time. I trust I'm leaving what I've created in great hands, with Arosha taking over, and all my team remaining," Fran said.

Arosha said, "What I am most grateful for, is a place to call my dental home so that I can continue to care for my existing patients, and hopefully meet new people who might be looking for someone to take care of their oral health needs."

Arosha has lived and practised as a dentist in the Noosa area since 2004.

She said what she loves most about what she does is creating long-term relationships with her patients and their families. "I love to see my regulars at their dental appointments, and I have had the pleasure of watching children grow into adults and bring their children to me.

Rob has been a dental technician since 1981 and a dental prosthetist since 2007. He has been working in the Noosa area since 1988.

Rob said what he loves most about his job is making people happy. "People appreciate good-looking and well-fitting dentures."

Rob and Arosha are looking forward to bringing dental management to all ages from toddlers through to the 'young at heart’ to Tewantin Family Dental.

Hobby bubbles into business

WHAT started as a hobby has bubbled into a thriving business.

Pomona couple Jade Baynes and Dean Power have been making laundry powder for their own personal use for many years.

Jade said they use all local eco-friendly ingredients, and after perfecting the recipe they recently had the idea to see if anyone else would like it.

“Our product is made from the finest natural ingredients sourced locally. We like using it so we thought we’d see if our local community might be interested in trying it too.”

They started with a homemade hut Dean “whipped up in a couple of hours” at the end of their driveway on Summit Road, Pomona. And their little hobby quickly turned into a popular business.

“We received amazing feedback from our clients and have quite a number of repeat customers that we now call friends.

“We have since started a weekly stall at Pomona Country Markets.

“We purchase all our ingredients locally to support our local community and now offer, in addition, camphor laurel scoops from the Woodworkers Club in Cooroy.”

Jade and Dean’s Summit Suds eco-friendly laundry powder and liquid can be purchased at their weekly market stall or from their hut on Summit Road, Pomona.

“We have an honesty box system so clients can call by anytime and purchase our laundry powder.”
