sport Cooroy golfers tee off for breast cancer
COOROY Golf Club’s ‘Tee off for Breast Cancer’ was a hole-in-one.
A club spokesperson said the charity day, held on Thursday 20 October, was well supported by both 9-Hole and 18-Hole women as well as the Cooroy Vets.
“Pink attire was a requirement and members embraced it.
“The Greens Superintendent, Warren, was given free rein on the course and set up numerous challenges for golfers. Escape dots ensured scores were high and fun was the order of the day.
“A total of $1,913.48 was raised for breast cancer research, a fantastic amount from our small club.”
The club would like to thank all who donated prizes for the raffle and helped in any way to make the day a big success.
“Special mention to Jenny and Tom who worked tirelessly in the clubhouse and also to Warren on the course. Without their commitment to our club and its members, the day would not have been the success that it was.”
Winners of the competition on the day were Tina Thomas and Lorraine Munro (58) with Lorraine Kelly and Richard Green (55 c/b) runners-up.

IGA group manager Romeo Bordignon, Impact Boxing and Fitness Centre Coach Mark Evans, Paige Robinson and IGA owners Peter and Jackie Zipf.
COOROY boxer Paige Robinson has received a cheque for $1000 from Cooroy IGA to help her journey to Spain.
The 17-year-old has been selected to represent Australia in the Amateur Boxing team at the World Championships in Spain in November.
Impact Boxing and Fitness Centre coach, Mark Evans, said Paige has been the only female to be named in the team.
“For Paige, it was a very nervous time waiting for the Australian selectors to name the team. But the wait was worth it. She made the team and she is the only female.”
Paige recently won the gold medal in the 60 kg division of the Female Youth Championship of Australia and was also named Best Female Boxer of the tournament.
Since starting boxing at Impact seven years ago, Mark said Paige’s dedication, hard work and commitment to her sport have paid off.
“At just 17 she has been crowned the best female boxer in her division in the country and now she will represent Australia. She has always dreamed of wearing the green and gold. I honestly believe that this is her time to shine,” Mark said.
The titles, which will be held in Alicante Spain, will be contested from November 5 to November 15.
