FOLLOWING a community meeting at Federal Hall in late August, Black Mountain residents impacted by a landslide that will take two years to fix, have prepared a draft impact submission and submitted it to Noosa Council.

A Black Mountain Community Group spokesperson said an encouraging number of Black Mountain residents came together for the meeting “to consolidate its priority issues and needs pending the reinstatement of Black Mountain Road and draft a submission based on these priority issues at the advice of the Noosa Council at their last pop-up meeting in July”.

“Everyone who attended the Federal Hall meeting shared stories and priorities, and/or provided thoughtful feedback in preparation for a draft submission.

“As a result, the Black Mountain community has been working together since to build such a proposal.

“A submission was prepared by 80 residents impacted by the landslide and the families they represent and presented to the Noosa Council on 20 September 2022.”

Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said she has welcomed the detailed submission from Black Mountain residents. “We continue to work with Black Mountain residents to help them through this challenging and frustrating period.

“The severity of the landslide has created a number of flow-on effects for the community and we need to work together with the residents to resolve what we can.”

Noosa Council will be hosting a community pop-up meeting with Black Mountain residents on Saturday 22 October.

“Council staff and councillors will address many of the specific issues raised when we meet at this month’s community pop-up and it’s important we develop a strong partnership with the community to help them through this recovery phase,” Cr Stewart said.

The Black Mountain Community Group spokesperson said they are hopeful it will see results as they work toward building a solid partnership with Noosa Council, moving through the next phases of the landslide recovery.

“It will be a ‘town hall’ style meeting and a timely opportunity for residents, along with their families and friends, to address the submission and connect and engage directly with Noosa Council,” the spokesperson said.

The community pop-up meeting will be held at Federal Hall on Saturday 22 October 2022 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
