news Police look for car stolen from Pomona

This red 2011 Ford Territory 4x4 Station wagon, Queensland rego CAS35, was stolen from the Old Bruce Highway at Gardners Rd, Pomona.

BY SERGEANT MAL SCOTT

DURING the past couple of weeks, a suspicious blue Nissan Navara dual cab tray back utility driven by a 34-year-old male has been sighted driving into private properties in the West Cooroy and Pomona areas including Ridgewood, Carters Ridge and Belli Park.

When challenged, the male driver just drives off or gives a clearly false reason for being there before leaving. It is very pleasing to see these communities sharing these sightings via their various social media community pages with the bush telegraph working wonders quickly spreading within a very short time frame.

On 23 September, a sighting was confirmed on the Kenilworth Skyring Creek Road with Cooroy police immediately notified and attending, leading to the vehicle being located and pursued.

However, due to the dangerous conduct of the driver, which clearly endangered members of the public, the vehicle was not further pursued and was last seen headed north on the Bruce Highway.

Police have now arrested a 35-year-old Monto man for numerous, serious criminal offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault of a police officer and dangerous driving. It is extremely pleasing to the police to have such a proactive community out there, who are willing to step up and help out their neighbours when this suspicious type of behaviour is occurring.

Hopefully, this person won’t return now that he has been pursued by the police but please continue to be vigilant and report sightings as soon as they occur.

Overnight on 23 and 24 September, a red 2011 Ford Territory 4x4 station wagon, Queensland rego CAS35, was stolen from the Old Bruce Highway at Gardners Rd, Pomona intersection after it was left there by the owners after it experienced mechanical difficulty.

Investigations reveal a window was smashed to gain entry and it may have been stolen for parts and accessories or may even be getting driven around the area. So, if your neighbour has recently acquired a similar vehicle parked in the backyard or you see this vehicle getting around, please contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or Cooroy Police on 5442 5030 or Pomona Police on 5480 1733.

Please note that administration staff are on duty at both police stations to attend to general inquiries. Cooroy administration hours are from 9 am to 2 pm Monday to Thursday, and Pomona hours are from 8 am to 4 pm Tuesday and Thursday.

Of course, police are available at all other times and are generally out and about attending to calls for service. If you call the station and don’t get a response, please call 131 444 Police Link for non-urgent issues and the police will return your call.Call 000 in an emergency.

Stay safe out there, Mal
