Felicia Broadhurst blows out the birthday candles, and below, celebrating with family and friends.

Stylish celebration marks a 100-year milestone WHEN Felicia Broadhurst celebrated her 100th birthday last month with family and friends, she was the last to go home at midnight. The vivacious centenarian marked this incredible milestone with 100 guests, including her youngest sister, Delphine Jesberg, aged 91, in Tewantin, at an afternoon event that stretched long into the evening. “‘Bid’ or ‘Biddy Beal’, as she is known to close friends and family, was the last to go home after spending a relaxing evening with family, reminiscing about days gone by and just having a laugh,” Felicia’s son, Rob’s partner, Judy McCarthy said. “It was an enjoyable afternoon. The Black Forest cake was homemade by Delphine’s son in-law, André Stössel, and on Friday, which was Felicia’s birthday. "We had a lovely visit from State MP Sandy Bolton, who wished Felicia a happy 100th birthday. "She hoped that she can come again next year for

her 101st.” Born on 26 November 1921 in Brisbane, from an early age Felicia grew up in Traveston. She worked as a nanny for a farming family from the age of 13, after her mother died leaving five children for her father to raise. At 17, Felicia went to work at the Cooroy Hotel in the dining room and also helping to make beds when required. It was at the Cooroy Hotel that she met the man of her dreams - a true gentleman, George Beal, a local butcher. After their wedding in 1941,

the couple rented a small house in Tewantin, where the car park for the Atrium is now. While living there, they purchased a half acre block of land near the Tewantin Primary School, where they built a small two bedroom Queenslander in November 1949. In January 1950, Felicia gave birth to Robert in Cooroy Hospital. Although they only had one child of their own, Felicia and George helped out her sisters and their children with accommodation and meals. Their house was always full.
