LETTER TO THE EDITOR Indivisible Copper Corridor announces regional Tax Day Caravan Indivisible Copper Corridor, led by Indivisible Oracle, will visit every town in the region with their Tax Day Caravan on Saturday, April 15. Our trek is one of over 150 locally organized Tax March events around the nation. Our message? The President must show us his tax returns. With our Caravan, rural Arizona joins in issuing this clarion call. By staging a multi-town caravan of vehicles filled with energized citizens, banners, signs, and leaflets, Indivisible Copper Corridor will show Trump that we will not settle for his deception and broken campaign promises. The Tax Day Caravan will start in Oracle, then visit San Manuel, Mammoth, Dudleyville, Winkelman/Hayden, and Kearny, and complete its journey in Superior. Why are Trump’s taxes so important? In Eastern Pinal County, we work hard to provide for our families and to build healthy communities. We pay our fair share to Uncle Sam year after year. But has our Commander in Chief paid his due? With no answer to our lingering questions, Americans are left to wonder what secrets lurk in Trump’s financial records. Trump’s tax returns can reveal three kinds of information. First, what are his income sources, and how much does he make? Second, how does he structure his income for tax purposes? Third, what kinds of deductions does he take (including charitable contributions)? From this, we may learn the truth about his business partners, foreign bank accounts, overseas income, and other financial ties, all of which may reveal conflicts of interest between his business dealings and his presidency. Ever since Richard Nixon set the precedent, candidates have voluntarily disclosed their tax records to the voters. While campaigning, Trump promised us over and over again that he would share his taxes, thus proving to us that “there’s nothing there.” Still we wait. By taking back these promises, Trump is concealing the truth. Our President needs to come clean. Is he indebted to any foreign entities, whether corporate or political? If he owes favors to one or many foreign powers (Russia is at the forefront), at best this is not in the interest of the American people. Who will he put first? Who will his policies benefit? We demand answers. Our Caravan itinerary, with approximate arrival times in each community: • Oracle: 7:30 a.m. rendezvous at the commuter parking

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Jelly Beans and Easter Egg Hunts Here in the high desert of Arizona, most of the trees lose their leaves during the winter. It can look as though they have died without their bright green foliage. All winter the trees waited patiently as the seasonal rains watered their roots. They waited for the signal of spring and time for new life! It seems like overnight that the buds formed and then leaves are popping out everywhere, oh the wonder of spring time! In our yard the rabbits come out, nibbling the vegetation popping up around the yard. Then the birds come out looking for seeds on the ground and start gathering at the watering pan, how do they know its spring? I believe God Himself created them that way! All of the new life of spring and nature around us never ceases to amaze me. It is at this time of year we celebrate spring, celebrate

Easter, along with winter being over and a rebirth of things around us. There are Eater bunnies of chocolate, marshmallow chicks, jelly beans and Easter egg hunts for the children to celebrate the day. For myself, it is a time to thank God for the new life, to thank His Son Jesus for new life from Him. It is a reminder for me that God loves and cares that much for me and us all! Here at Family First we are here to show God’s love to everyone who comes into our doors. We are here to help, to encourage, to teach our moms and dads, to help them be the best parents they can be for their children. We are here to make our community a better place for us all to live in! Springtime is a wonderful time of year, a time to appreciate that new life around us, a time to refresh and to

Pinal County seeking local opinion on Oracle Park redesign By Joshua Delauder San Manuel Miner Do you want to have a say in the Oracle Park redesign? Do you have an idea that you could want implemented? The Tri-Community can now voice their comments, ideas and concerns about the Oracle Park on Nuestro online. In January, several members of Oracle came together to write down what they liked and didn’t like about the Oracle Park redesign plans that University of Arizona Architecture student Michael Cimino and his class drew up. Those comments were all put together and now Oracle Park is one step closer to a master plan. Kent Taylor, Director of the Open Space and Trails Department for Arizona said the public comments that they receive through the website will go into the concept plan. “We’re going to take those comments and work those into the concept plan to develop the final master plan,” Taylor said. Taylor said that the project is going along at the rate they thought it would be. “We’re on the schedule that we kind of determined when we first reached out to U of A,” Taylor said. Mary Ellen Kazda, a resident of Oracle and someone who has been to all the meetings for the park, thinks it’s very important for more families to voice their opinions and concerns for the park. “I’ve been telling people what the plan looks like and they think it’s looks good and they do have some questions and concerns,” she said. Kaz said that getting the word out to families and getting them to voice their opinions is “critical.” Comments are being taken into consideration until April 21. The website will be asking for email and other info, but that information will not be given out. The website for public comments can be reached here: http://bit.ly/2pnzfH2.

Head coach Freddy Burnham and the Miners’ players hosted a skills camp for youths, ages 4 – 14, on Apr. 1. For the players, it was an opportunity to participate in some community service and for the youths, an opportunity to meet the players they might one day emulate. “We had a total of 26 kids participate in the skills camp,” Burnham wrote in an email to the Miner. “The baseball team had a good time working with the kids of the community, and teaching them fielding and batting skills.” Campers and their parents shared a meal with the Miners’ players, indulging in hot dogs and drinks. Ten campers won prizes at the event, including four who won Chilly Willy’s and six others who won a hat and t-shirt. “It was a great opportunity for the baseball players,’ Burnham said. “We hope to continue this as a new tradition to give back to the community.”

Lady Miners remain perfect in region By Andrew Luberda San Manuel Miner
Sara Baldenegro at bat for the Lady Miners.
Ashley Madrid | SMHS
The sixth-ranked San Manuel softball team improved to 5 – 0 in 2A South-region games after a lopsided 20 – 1 home victory against San Carlos last Tuesday. The Lady Miners scored at least four runs in each of the first four innings, leading to the rout. Nikki Baldenegro was a single short of the cycle, hitting a double, triple and a homerun in addition to driving in five runs. Dionne Ruiz added two hits – both triples – and two RBI while Selena Cruz hit a double and had a pair of RBI in the win. Baldenegro was again dominant from the circle, allowing only an unearned run on three hits with 13 strikeouts and no walks in the five-inning, complete-game victory. The win was the junior’s 12th of the season.

Forest Service hosts Apache Leap Management Plan meeting The Tonto National Forest hosted an open forum to hear public comments regarding the Apache Leap Management plan that is being created. The plan was required as part of the legislation that approved the Resolution Copper Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act in 2014. According to the legislation the Forest Service must issues a Notice of Decision by the end of December 2017. The Apache Leap Management Plan addresses current and future recreational needs, Native American concerns and overall preservation of the escarpment of Apache Leap for the life of the mine. The legislation requires the plan to manage 807 acres
of Apache Leap but does not affect the Cross or S monuments on the mountain. Local leaders and community members have expressed concern that the Forest Service could restrict access for hiking or recreation in the area of Apache Leap. The Cross
Canyon trails are used by locals and visitors. Climbing groups have also requested that there be vehicular access to the base of the escarpment to allow for easy access to climbing. The plan does address the need to limit vehicle access on the Apache Leap mountain.
The public is invited to comment on the proposed plans through May 1, 2017. You can view the plan online at www.ApacheLeapSMA. us. You may also contact the Forest Service Project Manager, Mary Rasmussen via email at info@ ApacheLeapSMA.us.

Christian Estrada and Javy Tamayo each had two hits and two RBI against the Braves. In all, nine Miners’ hitters combined for 14 hits in the game. Josh Sharp, Ceazar Guerrero and Angel Barriga combined on the mound to allow five runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.

Call 811 Before you dig!
one simple call to 811 gets underground utility-owned lines marked for free. Whether you’re a homeowner or professional excavator, every digging job requires a call — even small projects — so be sure to: • Call 811 at least two working days before starting any digging project • Wait for the site to be marked • Respect the marks • Dig with care
not calling can be life threatening and costly. You can harm yourself or others, disrupt natural gas service to an entire neighborhood, and potentially be responsible for injuries, repair costs, and criminal penalties. Natural gas lines can be buried anywhere. If you ever suspect a natural gas leak, call 911 and Southwest Gas at 877-860-6020 immediately, whether you’re our customer or not. Members of the Arizona Trail Gateway Community Advisory Committee consider the new signage for the Arizona Trail at Summerhaven. The group met late last month in Oracle. Mila Besich-Lira | Copper Area News
Arizona Trail Gateway Community Advisory Committee meets in Oracle By Mila Besich-Lira Copper Area News Over the past decade more and more attention has been given to the Arizona Trail. The 800 mile trail that travels from Arizona’s southern boarder with Mexico goes through the entire Copper Corridor before it makes it way through northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon before it reaches the Utah border. As the popularity of the trail grows so does the need for the Gateway Communities along the trail to meet, collaborate and discuss how the communities can harness the economic benefits of the trail as well as support the maintenance and development of the trail. The ATA has formed an Arizona Trail Gateway Community advisory committee.
The advisory group meets three times a year and their Spring meeting was held in March at the Oracle Historical Society. Trail champions from Summerhaven, Pine, Sierra Vista, Superior, Pinal County, and Kearny were all in attendance. The group discussed the launch of several new products that are being sold with a revenue share to support the Arizona Trail including a new blend of coffee by Oracle based Sky Island Roasters called the Arizona Trail blend. The coffee will be packaged for both home use as well as in convenient packaging for those using their coffee on the trails. The group is focussing efforts on how all of the communities can work together to support hikers and promote the communities along the trail. The next meeting is scheduled to be held in Pine in August.
