LETTER TO THE EDITOR Indivisible Copper Corridor announces regional Tax Day Caravan Indivisible Copper Corridor, led by Indivisible Oracle, will visit every town in the region with their Tax Day Caravan on Saturday, April 15. Our trek is one of over 150 locally organized Tax March events around the nation. Our message? The President must show us his tax returns. With our Caravan, rural Arizona joins in issuing this clarion call. By staging a multi-town caravan of vehicles filled with energized citizens, banners, signs, and leaflets, Indivisible Copper Corridor will show Trump that we will not settle for his deception and broken campaign promises. The Tax Day Caravan will start in Oracle, then visit San Manuel, Mammoth, Dudleyville, Winkelman/Hayden, and Kearny, and complete its journey in Superior. Why are Trump’s taxes so important? In Eastern Pinal County, we work hard to provide for our families and to build healthy communities. We pay our fair share to Uncle Sam year after year. But has our Commander in Chief paid his due? With no answer to our lingering questions, Americans are left to wonder what secrets lurk in Trump’s financial records. Trump’s tax returns can reveal three kinds of information. First, what are his income sources, and how much does he make? Second, how does he structure his income for tax purposes? Third, what kinds of deductions

does he take (including charitable contributions)? From this, we may learn the truth about his business partners, foreign bank accounts, overseas income, and other financial ties, all of which may reveal conflicts of interest between his business dealings and his presidency. Ever since Richard Nixon set the precedent, candidates have voluntarily disclosed their tax records to the voters. While campaigning, Trump promised us over and over again that he would share his taxes, thus proving to us that “there’s nothing there.” Still we wait. By taking back these promises, Trump is concealing the truth. Our President needs to come clean. Is he indebted to any foreign entities, whether corporate or political? If he owes favors to one or many foreign powers (Russia is at the forefront), at best this is not in the interest of the American people. Who will he put first? Who will his policies benefit? We demand answers. Our Caravan itinerary, with approximate arrival times in each community:

Forest Service hosts Apache Leap Management Plan meeting
The Tonto National Forest hosted an open forum to hear public comments regarding the Apache Leap Management plan that is being created. The plan was required as part of the legislation that approved the Resolution Copper Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act in 2014. According to the legislation the Forest Service must issues a Notice of Decision by the end of December 2017. The Apache Leap Management Plan addresses current and future recreational needs, Native American concerns and overall preservation of the escarpment of Apache Leap for the life of the mine. The legislation requires the plan to manage 807 acres of Apache Leap but does not affect the Cross or S monuments on the
mountain. Local leaders and community members have expressed concern that the Forest Service could restrict access for hiking or recreation in the area of Apache Leap. The Cross Canyon trails are used by locals and visitors. Climbing groups have also requested that there be vehicular access to the base of the escarpment to allow for easy access to climbing. The plan does address the need to limit vehicle access on the Apache Leap mountain. The public is invited to comment on the proposed plans through May 1, 2017. You can view the plan online at www.ApacheLeapSMA.us. You may also contact the Forest Service Project Manager, Mary Rasmussen via email at info@ApacheLeapSMA.us.

Panthers’ baseball at top of state rankings By Andrew Luberda Superior Sun
The Superior baseball team is at the top of the state rankings as of Apr. 9 despite having its 10-game winning streak snapped with an opening-round loss to Phoenix Christian last Thursday in the
Chandler Prep Baseball Classic, which took place Apr. 6 – 8. Panthers followed the loss with a pair of wins against Scottsdale Prep and Globe. In their rivalry game at Ray on Apr. 4, the Panthers scored eight runs in the first inning, and nine runs combined in three of the next four, on their way to a lopsided
17 – 7 victory in the first of two meetings between the teams this season. Sophomore Jesus Castellanos had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Panthers’ offense. Nicolaus Cruz doubled and had two RBI in the win. Junior Marcos Bueno had a hit and two RBI as well.
Starter Kale Major was one of three Panthers’ pitchers used in the game and earned the win without being at his best. The sophomore, who leads the Panthers in wins, surrendered three earned runs on five hits in two and two-thirds innings pitched. Edgar Galindo and Cruz came on in relief.
Lady Panthers rout Sabercats By Andrew Luberda Superior Sun The third-ranked Superior softball team rebounded nicely from a loss earlier in the week to rival and top-ranked Ray by
defeating San Tan Foothills last Friday, 14 – 0. The Lady Panthers plated 11 runs in the first inning against the Sabercats and one run in each of the next three innings, leading them to the lopsided victory.
Marlee Estatico went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Tori Juarez had a hit and two RBI to lead Superior’s offense. Naomi Hing also had a hit with two RBI. Analysse Jaurez and Anisah Cardenas each had a hit and an RBI in the win.
Starting pitcher Alicia Arriola earned her eighth win of the season by dominating the Sabercats, allowing only a hit with eight strikeouts in four innings of work before DeAndrian Bogenschutz pitched a hitless and scoreless inning in relief.
Arizona Trail Gateway Community Advisory Committee meets in Oracle Over the past decade more and more attention has been given to the Arizona Trail. The 800 mile trail that travels from Arizona’s southern boarder with Mexico goes through the entire Copper Corridor before it makes it way through northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon before it reaches the Utah border. As the popularity of the trail grows so does the need for the Gateway Communities along the trail to meet, collaborate and discuss how the communities can harness the economic benefits of the trail as well as support the maintenance and development
of the trail. The ATA has formed an Arizona Trail Gateway Community advisory committee. The advisory group meets three times a year and their Spring meeting was held in March at the Oracle Historical Society. Trail champions from Summerhaven, Pine, Sierra Vista, Superior, Pinal County, and Kearny were all in attendance. The group discussed the launch of several new products that are being sold with a revenue share to support the Arizona Trail including a new blend of coffee by Oracle based Sky Island Roasters called
the Arizona Trail blend. The coffee will be packaged for both home use as well as in convenient packaging for those using their coffee on the trails. The group is focussing efforts on how all
of the communities can work together to support hikers and promote the communities along the trail. The next meeting is scheduled to be held in Pine in August.

Superior Fitness E
veryday the news has information about the positive affects of exercise and taking care of one’s health. Along with the announcements of those studies is the methods in which one may take to reach their goal weight or just become healthier. From fad diets to lifestyle changes, there is something for everyone to pick from. Tucked away on US 60 in Superior is Superior Fitness owned by Anthony Torres. The gym has been in Superior for almost 18 months. Their focus in designed to use very basic movements to build strength. Torres explained that people passing by may be intimidated by what they see when they see clients moving large tires or lifting a lot of weights. “We teach people how to use the equipment safely and build their endurance,” he said. Each work out can be customized based on the individual goals and abilities. These types of work outs are similar to the CrossFit gym movement that has swept the nation. Their gym is not a CrossFit certified but uses similar routines. This helps to keep the costs affordable for gym users. Packages to use the gym start at $30 a month and top out at $75 a month for unlimited uses. They also offer personal training for $35 a session. Torres is also hoping to add a summer program this year for student athletes wanting to build up their strength. Full details on this program are not finalized but he is hoping to work with the Superior Unified School District. Anthony decided to develop a career in physical fitness after starting his career in the retail business. “I realized I wanted to work at something that I enjoy doing and helping people,” he explained. “I enjoy helping people reach their personal fitness goals.” His advice is the same for business or personal fitness: “Just get out there and do it. There will always be a reason to wait to get started. The hardest part is getting started.”
Anthony Torres of Superior Fitness.

Trio Rio Bluegrass plays the Arboretum Saturday
Superior - It’s a great time of the year to get outdoors with friends and family, and the Boyce Thompson Arboretum (BTA), as usual, has plans to make it even more special. Why not pack a picnic, invite friends, and come on out to hear Trio Rio. Trio Rio consists of accomplished bandmates Ronnie Glover on guitar and vocals, Ron Rutowski on fiddle, Don Paddock on bass and Billy Parker on mandolin. Trio Rio’s set list often includes Pancho and Lefty, El Gallo del Cielo, Miles and Miles of Texas, Sugar Moon, Southwestern Pilgrimage, Cooler than Hell, The Road Goes on Forever, Deep Water, Saint Olof’s Gate and Tonight We Ride. On Saturday, April 15, 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m., Trio Rio will play a high-energy set that’s included with the $12.50 daily BTA admission. Of course, if you are an annual
member or have an Arizona State Parks annual pass, the event is free. Did you notice a little inconsistency? Like Douglas Adams with his Hitchhiker’s Guide book series that became known as the increasingly oddly named trilogy, Trio Rio has more to it than you would expect. A four person trio, they dub their music ‘acoustic Americana.’ One description of their style is: “fiddle-driven enough to satisfy the tastes of the country, swing and bluegrass fans while also staying true to the soul of the ballads and the blues.” Hear a few songs and find the band’s full schedule online at triorioaz.com. As usual with outdoor concerts at the BTA, a prediction for stormy weather could cancel the music. Verify with a look at the website at cals.arizona.edu/bta before you
drive up, or call the gift shop after 8 a.m. at 520-6892723 if forecasts call for rain or excessive wind. Drive up early to attend a Wildflower guided walk at 10 a.m. or a general tour of the main trail at 11 a.m.; general tours are daily this month, and the schedule for specialized nature walks is online.

The original gateway trail that connected the Arizona Trail - Picket Post trail head to the Town of Superior was forced to be re-located after the construction for the expansion of the US 60 began. ADOT has paid to have the trail re-located and the funds are currently held by the Tonto National Forest. The relocation of the trail will require a National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Environmental Clearance. Once the clearance and permits are granted development and signage of the trail can begin. The LOST Inc works in conjunction with the Forest Service and the Arizona Trail to maintain and develop trails in the Superior area. For more information on becoming a member of the LOST Inc. or learn more about the Arnett Canyon trail re-location contact Nancy Vogler at 520827-9461.

Panther tennis teams finding success
By Andrew Luberda Superior Sun The Superior boys’ and girls’ tennis teams have experienced some success this season despite a comparatively small roster. The boys’ team is 4-7 overall with wins
against Florence (2), San Tan Foothills and Duncan. The girls’ team is 7 – 4 and ranked 21st among 50 teams in Division III. After three losses to start the season, the girls have won seven of their last eight matches, including their last four in-a-row
against Duncan, Florence, Coolidge, and Gilbert Christian. Their lone loss in the last eight matches was against 13th-ranked Miami, which also defeated the Panthers in the season opener. The boys’ roster includes Dominic Pera, Jesus Gonzales, Brandon Martinez,
Matthew Hernandez, and Gabriel Lowery. The girls’ roster includes Maribel Castro, Danielle Lopez, Jewel Meza, Eleana Ybarra, Ashley Lira, Danielle Banks, and Queenie Hing. Both teams will wrap up their regular seasons this week.
