passion. He was the quarterback all 4 years where he met Barbara Padilla.

They married on Oct. 7, 1972 and together they raised two children and were blessed with nine beautiful grandchildren.

Angel was involved with our Superior community his entire life. He worked as a miner at Magma and Asarco between 1972 - 1976. He began as a volunteer firefighter for the Superior Fire Department and after 30 years of service he retired as the fire chief. In 1976 he began his career at the Arizona Water Company. He took great pride in his line of work for 39 years before retiring in 2015.

When Angel wasn’t working his regular job, you would always find him helping someone with their own projects.

He was also one of the founders of the Superior Bowhunters. Angel loved fishing and hunting with his friends and grandchildren. He was a huge fan of the GreenBay Packers and of the U of A Wildcats!!!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo and Henrietta Gomez, and his grandson, Marky Gomez Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara P. Gomez; children, Mark (Veronica) Gomez, and Christina Gomez; grandchildren, Stephan Gomez, Jalon Murray, Jalisa Murray, Matthew Gomez, Maya Araujo, Levi Araujo, Deztyne Araujo, Anthony Gomez; step-granddaughters, Julissa Zuniga and Adrianna Villaverde; brothers, Ronnie (Annie) Gomez, Willie (Candis) Gomez, Gonzalo Jr. (Linda) Gomez, Eddie (Rachel) Gomez and Paul (Michelle) Gomez; sister, Grace Griego (John); and many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Services for Angel will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Superior, Arizona. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Superior.

He was an Army veteran and a proud patriot. He worked as a corrections officer in Florence for many years and retired from the Department of Homeland Security.

He loved to sing and play his guitar, often serenading his loved ones and organizing countless benefit concerts. He loved to help people.

He loved his family dearly, and would do anything for them.

Frank is survived by two devoted daughters, Tina Casillas of Superior and Lisa Griffis of Apache Junction. He has nine grandchildren, his “babies”, Angelina, Gabriel, Gavin, Diego, Caden, Brennen, Mariah, Violet and Evelyn. They were his whole world. He is also survived by his loving fiance, Theresa Crooks, who stayed by his side and cared for him even when things got hard.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa on April 5 at 10 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at 1 p.m. at the Los Hermanos ballroom in Superior.

She was also arrested on a failure to appear (FTA) warrant issued out of the Arizona Department of Public Safety. She was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail in Florence.

March 6 Thomas J. Rodriguez, 39, Miami, was arrested in the 100 block of Lobb Ave. on a FTA warrant issued by the Miami Police Department. He was transported to Miami and turned over to Miami Police.

March 8 Audriani Z. Ramos, 30, Globe, was arrested in the 1100 block of US Hwy. 60 on a FTA warrant issued by the Gila County Sheriff’s Office. She was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

Denise L. Amodor, 48, Superior, was arrested in the 500 block of US Hwy. 60 and was charged with shoplifting. She was cited and released.

March 10 Bridgette S. Sheehan, 31, Superior, was arrested in the 500 block of US Hwy. 60 and was charged with possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotic drugs. She was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

Tommy G. Reinhert, 71, Miami, was arrested in the 500 block of US Hwy. 60 and was charged with criminal speed. He was cited and released.

March 11 Theft was reported in the 1100 block of US Hwy. 60.

March 12 Frank M. Pino, 20, Superior, was arrested in the 200 block of Gibbs St. and was charged with assault/domestic violence (DV) and disorderly conduct/DV. He was transported and booked into the Pinal

County Jail.

March 18 Theft was reported in the 100 block of Palo Verde Dr. Samantha R. Boyce, 30, Superior, was arrested in the area of Porphyry St. and Rainbow St. and was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also arrested on a pre-adjudication rule warrant and a felony criminal trespassing warrant, both issued out of Pinal County.

She was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

Robert C. Hernandez, 48, Superior, was arrested in the area of Moffatt St. and Stone Ave. on a parole violation warrant issued by the Arizona Department of Corrections. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

March 20 Assault was reported in the 200 block of Golf Course Rd. An accident without injuries was reported in the 500 block of US Hwy. 60.

Rebuild Superior has planning workshop

April 3, 2019

The Rebuild Superior, Inc. Board of Directors held an internal workshop Saturday, March 30. Topics included a look at Rebuild’s roots, current work, as well as initiating a review of Rebuild Superior’s vision and mission.

Later in the year, Rebuild Superior will hold a public meeting to report on its work and review future options with Superior residents.

Rebuild Superior was awarded funding by Resolution Copper, and is in the process of implementing a housing repair grant funded by the US Department of Agriculture.

Rebuild Superior is coordinating with local residents on the Pinal Avenue Project which began with a clean-up, will have a house painting component, and then help with home improvement.

Rebuild Superior is fundraising until April 12 through the “A Community Thrives” program to raise at least $3,000 using the online Crowdrise website (http:// bit.ly/2CLeVsb) which will put Rebuild Superior in competition for support grants.

Fast spreading brush fire reminds residents to prepare for coming wildfire season

Superior Fire Department assisted Queen Valley Fire District with a fast spreading brush fire off of Hewitt Station Road east of Queen Valley on Sunday, March 31. QVFD and SFD units held the fire back as US Forest Service units arrived and inserted numerous hand-crews on the fire to make sure it was completely extinguished.

SFD was released from the scene with US Forest Service remaining overnight.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, with target shooting in the area being viewed as a possible source.

The abundance of moisture in the last few months has grown a lot of vegetation which will quickly turn dry soon and provide a dangerous

amount of fuel to burn. These fires spread

fast and can quickly surround people, vehicles,

and homes. Please be aware of the conditions

Archaeologists, tribal monitors talk about Resolution Copper Cultural Resource Studies in Superior on April 10 The Superior Community Working Group (CWG) will hear a presentation about Native American cultural resource studies and monitoring being conducted for the Resolution Copper Project at the next CWG meeting on Wednesday, April 10, at 6 p.m. in the Superior Chamber of Commerce meeting room.

Guest speakers will be LeRoy Shingoitewa and Scott O’Mack from Westland Resources, who are overseeing the work currently underway, mostly by Native American tribal members and specialists.

The CWG includes residents and stakeholders from the Town of Superior, Queen Valley, Hewitt Station, Globe, Kearny, Winkelman, the San Carlos Community and around the area. The group deals with the social and environmental issues, science and policy, and the pros and cons of the proposed Resolution

Copper Project. Topics include environmental impacts, health, safety, natural resource issues, engineering, water quantity and quality, geology, economics, air quality, community investments, recreational changes and other related subjects.

Meetings are held at the Superior Chamber of Commerce at 165 W. Main St. in Superior from 6-8 p.m., most often on the second Wednesday of each month. The public is welcome, and time is reserved on the agenda for everyone’s comments, questions, and discussion.

A benefit tardeada will be held as a fundraiser for Conchita Lopez on Sunday, April 14, from 1-7 p.m. at the Los Hermanos Ballroom in Superior. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and younger.
