Statewide Fire Restrictions now in effect on State Lands Phoenix - The increase in wildfire starts, coupled with hot temperatures and dry fuels, forces the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management to go statewide with fire restrictions. As of today, northern Arizona will now be under Stage 1 restrictions, to include, Apache, Coconino, Mohave, and Navajo counties. Beginning at 0800, those northern Arizona counties will follow suit with the rest of the state. Restrictions on campfires, smoking and fireworks will be in place. Target shooting is never allowed on state lands. “We are in the heart of fire season and heading into the midst of the Arizona summer. Nearly 20 wildfires are actively burning around the state today, resources are spread very thin, and we need to be proactive. We do not want another Sawmill or Lizard in the state,” said State Forester Jeff Whitney. With these latest restrictions, the entire state will now be under Stage 1 restrictions on state-owned and statemanaged lands. Restrictions apply to the following state-owned and state-managed lands within the above-mentioned counties including: • All State Trust lands outside incorporated municipalities. • All Game and Fish Commission Wildlife areas and department properties outside incorporated
municipalities. • All State Parks outside incorporated municipalities – State Parks will remain open with campfires allowed in developed campgrounds. • All Department of Transportation highway, right-of-way property outside incorporated municipalities, not owned by federal land management agencies. Restrictions include: • Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove, other than in a developed campsite or picnic area is prohibited. Exemptions include, a device solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three feet of the device. • Smoking is prohibited unless it is within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site/improved site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barred or cleared of all flammable materials. • Fireworks or another incendiary device are prohibited. • Welding or operating acetylene or other torch devices with an open flame is prohibited. Exemptions include: • Any federal, state or local law enforcement officer Continued on page 8

The new Apache Sky Casino is beginning to make a real mark on our area. It is becoming a big employer, with people from the surrounding towns making up part of the work force. It has been meeting with civic officials to make official and helpful connections which could lead to further employment opportunities and other kinds of growth in our towns. On Saturday, July 1, the casino is offering a free fireworks show at its site in Dudleyville. The fireworks begin at 9 p.m., but the music begins at 6 p.m. and hot dogs and sodas (at only $1 each) will be readily available. This is a good familyfriendly event, and there should be more than enough parking for everyone. The Fourth of July there will be fireworks in Hayden. These are provided through the financial gifts of many people, and the fire departments from Hayden/ Winkelman and Kearny will be supervising the event. So, as you see, there are now two opportunities to experience a fine display. I hope all of us will be able to see both events. The heat of the summer is fully upon us, which makes the swimming pools in Superior, Kearny, Hayden, Mammoth and San Manuel particularly attractive. The town of Kearny has announced that swimming lessons will begin Monday, June 26, and end on Friday, July 7. Lessons run from noon until 12:30 p.m. each day. The lesson fee is $30 per swimmer, plus the pool admission fee (varies). There are three levels: water readiness, beginner, and stroke ready. More information and registration forms are available at the pool window from 1-5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. San Manuel’s Copper Town Association will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday,
ALONG THE GILA By Sam Hosler Special to Copper Area News
July 11, at 7 p.m. at the San Manuel Senior Center. I am sure that the association would appreciate the support of more community members as they do their best to improve the town. Budget meeting usually draw big yawns, but as Kearny’s Town Council wrestles with community needs and financial realities it is doing its best to benefit all of us. A special budget hearing will take place on Monday, June 26, at 4:30 p.m. Why so early in the day? Because the town’s reserve funds are precariously low, and the town’s budget the past few years has relied on the draw-down of its reserve funds, the only “savings account” available. Please be present to support the Mayor and Council in their work. For more information, contact Kearny Town Hall. The summer heat does terrible things to our yards. Weeds grow and good plants wither, even cacti. Let’s keep up the curb appeal of our yards.

Western Reprographics S
ignage and promotional materials are much needed for all businesses. From T-Shirts, banners and signs of all sizes for all different purposes, Western Reprographics can make what you need for both personal and business use. Tanner Hunsaker began his career with an interest in graphic design when he was Senior at Globe High School. When he graduated from high school he was planning on going to college for an electrical engineering degree. He quickly realized that he enjoyed designing signs and saw a need for a sign and printing business. “I found graphic design interesting and held my interest well enough to keep at it,” he explained.
He has been in business for 20 years and recently moved to a new location on Broad St. in Globe where he can now install vinyl graphics on to vehicles and equipment. Custom designs for signs and banners can take anywhere from 14-21 days depending on the type of design and the quantity needed by a customer. They can make signs from all materials from vinyl banners, corrugated plastics and other materials. They can also design t-shirts and other garments with direct to material printing, screen printing and embroidery. Some of the unique products that they have designed and printed include: underground mine labeling and signs, and hot air balloon and helicopter graphics. “We work to design products that meet the needs of our customers as quickly as possibly,” said Hunsaker His advice on developing a business? “Be passionate about your field, confident in your skill and plan on dedicating more time than planned…and have FUN!” Western Reprographics is located on Broad Street in Globe, Arizona. They are a member of the Superior
