Sea Lions open 2018 season

The Sea Lions Swim Team traveled to Parkside (Florence Anthem) for the first swim meet of the 2018 Summer Season against the other six teams in the Central Arizona Swimming League. The Sea Lions won the meet with 565 points, Parkside finished 2nd with 481 points, Coolidge finished 3rd with 249 points, San Tan Valley finished 4th with 181 points, Eloy finished 5th with 23 points, Florence finished 6th with 15 points, and Globe finished 7th with 11 points. This is the most competitive that the season opener meet has been since starting with a League wide meet several years ago. The score was virtually even between the Sea Lions and Parkside after the Backstroke events (roughly halfway through the meet). The Sea Lions made the most of the second half of the meet with some great swims in the Long Freestyle, Breaststroke and Sprint Freestyle events to expand the winning margin to 84 points. The Sea Lions have a group of 11-12 boys that finished 1-2-3 in every individual event. Joey Castellanos (12) won all

five individual events while teammates Johnny Smallhouse (11), Martin Madrid (11), Vicente Curry (12), Ethan Kellam (12) and Mason Stewart (12) added to the scoring. The boys took 1st and 3rd in both the Medley and Freestyle Relays, in a demonstration of their team depth. Evan Apuron (14) and Riley Stewart (14) showed that they were the fastest two swimmers at the meet regardless of age group. Tabitha Kellam (14) was the only Sea Lion swimmer at the meet that entered the maximum number of events and won them all. The Sea Lions 13-14 Girls were unbeatable; Tabitha was part of a strong team that included Rianna Estrada, Briana Castellanos, and Hannah Smallhouse. In every individual 13-14 Girls event, the Sea Lions finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. With the 4 best swimmers in the age group it was no surprise that both relays were easily won by a large margin. The following swimmers had first place finishes on Saturday: Annie Nemons, 7, (Medley Relay, Free Relay);

Daniel Garcia, 17, (Medley Relay, Free Relay). This was the first swim meet for Athan Riekofski (10), Ethan Erickson (10) and Alyssa Riekofski (15). All three participated in all the events that they were capable of completing and earned ribbons. Ethan Erickson was named Sea Lions Beast of the Week. He swam every event in his age group, which is a great goal for any first year competitive swimmer, but doing it at his very first meet ever was something special. Ethan swam against the best 9-10 year olds in the League and was fast enough to come home with individual ribbons in the Butterfly and Backstroke. Ethan also had to swim two legs in both the Medley and Freestyle relays with Athan because the Sea Lions were a little short handed in the 9-10 Boys age group at the meet. Coach Alex Gort was pleased with the win. “We had many very good swims and came on strong at the end of the meet when the other teams started to fade,” he said.

with a win The Sea Lions have won the League Championship for 11 consecutive years, however Coach Alex expressed concerns about the future. “We need a few more children 10 years old and younger on the team that want to be part of the winning Sea Lion tradition.,” he said. “We will teach them how to swim.”

“We are proud of our five year partnership with Delta Dental and look forward to serving many more children in our community with their support.” Tooth decay, which is largely preventable, remains one of the most common chronic diseases for children — five times as common as asthma, and seven times as common as hay fever, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pinal County is a predominantly rural county, in which approximately 18 percent of the population lives below the poverty level. Children living in poverty do not visit the dentist as regularly, or as early on in life, as children living in higher income families. This Annual Water Quality Report provides information on your drinking water. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that all drinking water suppliers provide a water quality report to their customers on an annual basis. This report contains important information on the quality of your water and contact information you may wish to use if you have any questions. Town Council Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at Town Hall. For a schedule and meeting minutes, please check the Town of Mammoth website: http://townofmammoth.us/town-council/ Drinking Water Sources The sources of drinking water (both tap and bottled water) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals, and in some cases, radioactive material, and can pickup substances resulting from the presence of animals or from human activity. In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes regulations which limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water which must provide the same protection for public health.

Town of Mammoth Consumer Confidence Report for Calendar Year 2017 Public Water System ID Number

Public Notice

June 6, 2018

All drinking water for the Town of Mammoth comes from two active wells, Well #4 (55-651263) and Well #5 (55-801443).

Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) The ADEQ has completed a Source Water Assessment for the Town of Mammoth. Based on the information currently available on the hydrogeologic settings of and the adjacent land uses that are in the specified proximity of the drinking water sources of this public water system, the department has given a low risk designation for the degree to which this public water system drinking water sources are protected. A low risk designation indicates that most source water protection measures are either already implemented, or the hydrogeology is such that the source water protection measures will have little impact on protection. You can help protect our water source by practicing good septic system maintenance, limiting pesticide and fertilizer use, and by properly disposing of hazardous household chemicals. Source Water Assessments on file with the ADEQ are available to the Public. You can obtain a copy by contacting the ADEQ Source Water Coordinator at (602) 771-4597.

Inorganic Contaminants: Such as salts and metals that can be naturally-occurring or result from urban stormwater runoff, industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining, or farming Our water is tested annually for nitrate. Lead and Copper is tested every 3 years. Other inorganic chemicals (IOCs) are tested every 9 years.

Organic Chemical Contaminants: Such as synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and petroleum production, and also may come from gas stations, urban storm water runoff, and septic systems. Our water is tested every 3 years for volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and synthetic organic chemicals (SOCs), Radioactive Contaminants: That can be naturally occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities. Our water is tested is tested every 3 years for radionuclides.

Pesticides and Herbicides: Such as agriculture, urban storm water runoff, and residential uses that may come from a variety of sources Lead Informational Statement: Lead, in drinking water, is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. The Town of Mammoth is responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components. When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead. Drinking Water Terms and Definitions Treatment Technique (TT): A required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water Level 1 Assessment: A study of the water system to identify potential problems and determine (if possible) why total coliform bacteria was present Level 2 Assessment: A very detailed study of the water system to identify potential problems and determine (if possible) why an E. coli MCL violation has occurred and/or why total coliform bacteria was present Action Level (AL): The concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment, or other requirements

Vulnerable Population

Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water

Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population.

Maximum Contaminant Level Goal MCLG): The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health

Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV-AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.

Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): The level of disinfectant added for water treatment that may not be exceeded at the consumer’s tap

For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, or to receive a copy of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and microbiological contaminants call the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800426-4791. Page 1 of 4

Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal (MRDLG): The level of disinfectant added for treatment at which no known or anticipated adverse effect on health of persons would occur

Minimum Reporting Limit (MRL): The smallest measured concentration of a substance that can be reliably measured by a given analytical method Millirems per year (MREM): A measure of radiation absorbed by the body Not Applicable (NA): Sampling was not completed by regulation or was not required Not Detected (ND or <): Not detectable at reporting limit Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU): A measure of water clarity Million fibers per liter (MFL) Picocuries per liter (pCi/L): Measure of the radioactivity in water ppm: Parts per million or Milligrams per liter (mg/L) ppb: Parts per billion or Micrograms per liter (µg/L) ppt: Parts per trillion or Nanograms per liter (ng/L) ppq: Parts per quadrillion or Picograms per liter (pg/L)

Everyone can help young kids stay safe around water this summer SAN MANUEL (June 4, 2018) – Pool weather and summertime go hand in hand. Especially since pools are everywhere—in your backyard, apartment complexes, neighbors’ homes. As the weather gets warmer, more and more families are using their pools or attending pool parties.

But along with water fun, water safety should also be top of mind, considering the reality of tragic headlines associated with unsupervised young children around water, such as the recent case of a 4-year-old Peoria boy who drowned after using chairs to open a pool gate. These incidents are terrifying, and First

Arsenic is a mineral known to cause cancer in humans at high concentration and is linked to other health effects, such as skin damage and circulatory problems. While your drinking water meets EPA’s standards, it does contain low levels of arsenic. EPA’s standard balances the current understanding of arsenic’s possible health effects against the costs of removing arsenic from drinking water, and continues to research the health effects of low levels of arsenic. 2 Nitrate in drinking water at levels above 10 ppm is a health risk for infants of less than six months of age. High nitrate levels in drinking water can cause “blue baby syndrome.” Nitrate levels may rise quickly for short periods of time because of rainfall or agricultural activity. If you are caring for an infant, and detected nitrate levels are above 5 ppm, you should ask advice from your health care provider.

The Complaint, when filed by the State, may be pursuant to A.R.S. § 13-4311, or it may seek relief under all of A.R.S. § 13-2314, particularly (C), (D), (E), and (F), as well as under A.R.S. §§ 13-4312, 13-4313, and 13-4314. If you have not previously received notice of its seizure for forfeiture, this is also notice pursuant to A.R.S. § 13-4306(C). Owners, interest holders or claimants who have filed a claim may have remedies available pursuant to A.R.S. §§ 13-4301 et seq. In some circumstances, a person claiming a lawful interest may file, within fifteen (15) days of notice of seizure for forfeiture, an application under A.R.S. § 13-4310(B) to obtain a hearing on the provisional return of the property pending the outcome of a judicial proceeding on its forfeiture. Notice of the order to show cause hearing must be served upon the Attorney for the State at least five (5) working days before the hearing is held. Under A.R.S. § 13-4306(G), an owner of property may obtain the release of seized property by posting with the Attorney for the State a surety bond or cash in an amount equal to the full fair market value of the property, as determined by the Attorney for the State. The State may refuse to release the property if: 1) the bond or cash tendered is not in an amount equal to the full fair market value of the property; or 2) the property is retained as contraband or as evidence; or 3) the property is particularly altered or designed for use in conduct giving rise to forfeiture. If you post bond or cash in lieu of the property, the bond or cash and not the property will be subject to forfeiture. If you wish to post a bond or cash in lieu of the property, you may contact the Attorney for the State. If no Notice of Pending Forfeiture is made within sixty (60) days after the seizure of the property for forfeiture, any owner or interest holder may request release of the property, pending further proceedings pursuant to the forfeiture statutes, to be commenced within seven (7) years after actual discovery by the State of the last act giving rise to forfeiture. The request should be addressed to the Attorney for the State and should show that the requestor is an owner or interest holder. If the Attorney for the State declines to authorize release of the property by the seizing agency, the request may be addressed to the Superior Court for the County of Pinal. Any attempt to hide, transfer, convey, or sell any interest in any property seized for forfeiture, or to deposit it with a third party, place it beyond the jurisdiction of the Court, diminish its value or commingle it with other property may result in forfeiture of other property of equal value. If the property is conveyed, alienated, encumbered, disposed of, received, removed from the jurisdiction of the Court, concealed, or otherwise rendered unavailable for forfeiture, these acts may constitute facilitation of money laundering and money laundering, for which you may be criminally liable. Locals train Girl Scouts to change lives Michael Reddish and Jeff Egan trained the Girl Scouts of Camp Whispering Pines. The Girl Scout leaders were trained in how to safely facilitate a low ropes course. The ropes course is designed to build courage, confidence, and teamwork but can be dangerous if not used properly. Mike and Jeff went through each element with the Girl Scout leaders and taught them about facilitation, safety, and bringing out the confidence in these young scouts. They built this ropes course in the Forest

Service several years ago. It was one of the first ropes courses built in Forest Service land in the entire USA! They used special fittings, sterilized drill bits, and only local mulch to strengthen the health of the trees and forest they were building in. Several of the girls were trained last year and helped to lead in building confidence and strength in the leaders who will be conducting these activities. Mike and Jeff both felt that this was the strongest group of Girl Scout leaders yet and everyone is very excited about the upcoming summer.
