SUPERCOPA
June 15-19 Coppermine Soccer Club’s 2010 Boys Premier, 2012 Boys Premier and 2013 Boys Premier teams were invited to participate in America’s Premier SuperCopa tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 2010 team finished the tournament with a 1-1-2 record, the 2012 team with a 2-2 record, and the youngest team to attend SuperCopa, the 2013 team, finsihed 2-2. All of our teams played with heart, determination, and hustle. Kudos to the athletes for a great showing! Coaches Yassine Iguidre (2010 Boys), Youssef Boudouch (21012 Boys) and Andrew Bulls (2103 boys), said the teams came out of the Supercopa stronger as a result of the experience. All of the Coppermine Players interacted with kids from all over the country and trained an extra three days a week to prepare. “The Coppermine Teams are fierce competitors and perform in the top tier of their tournaments and league playing Maryland providing them the opportunity to challenge other top teams, enhancing their development,” said Coach Yas. Many of our players left the competition gaining the knowledge that hard work, best efforts, and time management are critical to becoming the BEST!

HELLO COACH TUCKER!
Coppermine Lacrosse Club is thrilled to announce that Coach Tucker has joined the Coppermine family as a coordinator and consultant for all things girls lacrosse. Coach Tucker has dedicated her professional life to using the sport of lacrosse to inspire and develop over 300 Blue Jays at Hopkins, and thousands of young women through camps, clinics and presentations. She looks forward to designing engaging and uplifting practices, clinics, events and seminars for Coppermine to help players reach their full potential – on and off the field!
Inspiring others to play with joy, coach with joy and grow the game with joy is Coach Tucker’s goal and we can’t wait to get started!
One of Coach Tucker’s first actions as a coordinator for Coppermine was a June 21-23 competitive skill session: Tucker Tuneup for Tryouts. Coppermine girls lacrosse players had had the incredible opportunity to learn from one of the greatest to ever do it. During the sold-out event, players learned and reinforced solid fundamentals and proper technique while experiencing club level drills and coaching. The staple activities worked on were
Challenging stick work
Shooting
Defensive drills and concepts
Draw controls
Goalie Play It was a terrific few days for our laxers as they got to learn from a legendary coach.

What is METCON? Metabolic conditioning is structured patterns of work that are followed by rest periods. This is great way to save time, burn more calories, and improve overall health.
“That sounds like a lot like HIIT.” Well, all HIIT is METCON, but not all METCON is HIIT. This is because METCON incorporates both moderate and high intensity exercises while HIIT is specifically high intensity. METCON also goes a bit further than HIIT, focusing more on a mixture of strength training, body weight, and cardio-based movements that condition both the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems that are intended to last roughly 20 minutes with minimal rest. This allows for better fat loss.
While HIIT, is more focused on achieving 85% or more of your maximum heart rate during a short amount of time followed by rest and repeat. This conditions the aerobic energy system. Examples of METCON include 3 rounds of 8 kettlebell swings, 8 pull ups, 8 burpee box jumps. Examples of HIIT include 4 rounds of sprint intervals of 200m following a 200m jog.
Want to burn fat while also gaining muscle?! Want to get in a quick yet purposeful workout!? Then try to incorporate some metabolic conditioning into your weekly workouts!Metcon

FX PHYSICAL THERAPY INJURY PREVENTION
On June 1st, FX Physical Therapy and Coppermine partnered together to bring our community a High-Performance Tennis Training event at our Pikesville location.
Coppermine’s certified tennis coaches and FX’s physical therapists screened individuals on how their tennis movement may be leading to injury in their lower extremity region.
Participants went through the preliminary screening and jotted down any issues the physical therapists found. Drills followed the screening, where individuals focused on tweaking their swings in ways that benefited their lower extremities. At the end, FX physical therapists fielded questions, giving everyone an opportunity to modify their swings in a way that will minimize short and long-term injuries!
Stay tuned for more!

Welcome to our Coppermine United men’s team! Their inaugural season was a blast! Coppermine helped these players stay sharp in preparation for their fall commitments. This team had players from some of the highest quality teams in the nation including the University of Maryland, American University, Lafayette University and Temple University. There were a few international players on the United team as well. Mizuki Saika, from Japan, recently moved to Kansas last year, where he has been playing at Allen County Community College. While in Maryland, he stayed with a host family in Towson. Toga Katsuma and Kazuma Ishizuka both recently moved from Japan to the states to play soccer at CCBC Essex. The pair and fellow United player Samuel Sesay all played in last season’s NJCAA National Final Championship game. The Men’s United team finished with an undefeated season coming to a final record of 7-0. Scoring 36 goals and only conceding 8. The team has since parted ways and all players have begun to prepare for their preseasons which are now well underway.

GIRLS' DAY, K-12 / COED PRESCHOOL GIRLS' NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL BOARDING, GRADES 8-12 Owings Mills, MD 21117
spirited
At Garrison Forest School (GFS), an all-girls K-12 school with a coed preschool and a national and international boarding program in Owings Mills, students not only hone their athletic skills but learn teamwork, empathy, leadership and integrity. Each student is guided on her individual path to success through an educational journey that includes exploring academic interests, finding their voice and developing leadership skills. Often, an important component of that journey is joining the robust and supportive athletic community as a Garrison Forest Grizzly student-athlete.
The athletic program at GFS is constantly growing, with the ultimate goal being to inspire and guide the athletes at all stages of their athletic journey, whether that’s supporting an athlete trying a new sport or helping a talented player get to the next level. “We seek to provide a challenging, competitive program, while helping young women athletes learn to lead, follow positively and hold themselves accountable to the highest standards of excellence,” said GFS Athletic Director Jessy Morgan.
In addition to 11 Upper School and 8 Middle School teams, GFS is home to nationally recognized riding and polo programs. Guided by the knowledgeable and supportive riding and polo staff, these programs welcome students of all skill levels, from those who are just learning to ride or beginning to explore polo, up to those who are seeking to compete at an elite level.
The Grizzlies are gearing up for the fall season, hoping to build on a successful year in 2021-22, which saw conference finals trips for field hockey and volleyball in the fall and basketball in the winter—and a conference win for golf in the spring.
Riding and polo programs are also excited to welcome students back in the fall. Both programs run throughout the year, with numerous individual and team accolades each year.

LOYOLA BLAKEFIELD
Loyola Blakefield a catholic, jesuit prep school for boys in grades 6-12, is located in Towson and is committed to offering a challenging college prep curriculum that provides a broad range of major course offerings. Students can partake in honors and advanced placement courses, enriching electives and co-curricular activities.
Coppermine Fieldhouse Kaleidoscope camp counselor Matthew Welling recently graduated from Loyola and now attends UMD college park. Loyola gave Matthew many opportunities to develop into the model student that he is today. While there, he participated in the cyber security club, business club, the school band and the track and field team. Loyola Blakefield intends to work on building the relationships between these young men and prepare them for college through clubs, athletics and coursework.

Matthew’s favorite event while at Loyola Blakefield was attending their football games. Loyola Blakefield students consistently showed up to lend support to the football team and watch them play. “Part of being a Don is supporting those around you and exuding school spirit, while having a positive attitude anywhere you go,” said Matthew.
Giving back to the community is also a focal point of Loyola Blakefield. Through community service efforts, many Dons have been able to travel while building a sense of ownership and leadership. From working at the Center for Environmental Transformation in Camden, NJ, to a service-learning immersion trip to Belize where students learned about tropical research education and conservation, the Loyola Blakefield students learned a lot this summer.
Through the relationship-building skills students learn outside of the classroom to the leadership and problem-solving skills students learn inside of the classroom, the Dons leave Loyola Blakefield ready to take on whatever comes their way.

INSIDE THE CLASSROOM
A
s the summer ends, we know that a lot of our Coppermine kids are about to head off to college. We’re proud of our hard-working students and know they wouldn’t be where they are today if it weren’t for the many great teachers in our Coppermine communities!
![](https://assets.isu.pub/document-structure/220825142114-ff45322d12fedcbaecadbcb6da8c9062/v1/6d922e8badf28af24eb0eea70777dbe1.jpeg?width=720&quality=85%2C50)
One of those teachers is Kristie Wright! Mrs. Wright has been a math and science teacher at NCCS for over 17 years!
The students and other facultyat NCCS give Mrs. Wright a home away from home feeling. Mrs. Wright’s students are always taught the seven anchors of NCCS; respect, responsibility, integrity, humility, gratitude, kindness and balance. North Carroll Community School offers a mentorship program that pairs older students up with younger students for their entire NCCS career. Those mentors and mentees do a bunch of school activities with each other!
Pair all of the above with the fact that the school puts a strong emphasis on community events, it’s no wonder that our communities students are thriving! The St. Paul’s Schools’ own LaShanda Lawrence is another great example of a teacher who pours their heart and soul into prepping our communities’ young minds for the future!

Mrs. Lawrence has taught 5th-grade Humanities and 7th-grade English at St. Paul’s School for Boys for three years. She shows up excited to teach and mentor every day and attributes that to the students who stay interested and keep the faculty on their toes!

his summer Coppermine had the opportunity to host three Gilman Seniors for their Senior Encounter Program! Through partnerships with many local schools like Gilman, Coppermine is able to plan and host community service events with these local institutions, while holding programs and clinics that benefit many of these young Coppermine family members.

Senior Encounter, the capstone experience of the senior year, enables each senior to explore a field of interest with an adult who works in that area. After senior exams, the seniors engage in a workplace internship or shadowing experience.
Our very own Coppermine athletes, Joshua Lee, Jacob Muher and Teddy Zois, joined our sports marketing team to learn about their areas of interest. After two jam-packed weeks these student-athletes learned how to plan, prepare and execute their own Soccer Interest Clinic at our 4 Seasons location. With help from our elite soccer coaches, players enjoyed an evening packed with skills and drills as they learned and enhanced their soccer skills. Josh, Jacob and Teddy learned what it takes to successfully plan and market a full-scale sporting event in the sports marketing world. They learned valuable skills from the entire Coppermine sports marketing team, skills that will prep them for college and eventually, the working world. Coppermine is proud of these three young men and continues to be happy to host the Gilman Senior Encounter program! Keep an eye out for big things coming between Coppermine and Gilman!

RITA'S SERVES UP SMILES AT SUMMER CAMP
This summer campers enjoyed science, sports, drama, horseback riding and so much more. As the late July heat began to bear down on us, we welcomed Rita's onsite on July 20, 26 and 28 to offer our campers the opportunity to enjoy a cool treat.
Albert and Melissa Holley, the owner’s of three Baltimore-area Rita’s locations, chose to partner with Coppermine this year because they know the value that comes from investing in the next generation. Al Holley was a high school algebra teacher in Baltimore for more than ten years, while also serving the community and school as a basketball coach. When Holley became a Rita’s owner, he found that he could impact younger generations directly through the strategic hiring of ambitious and smart young talent.
As the Holley’s success with Rita’s continued to grow, they remain committed to engaging and giving back to the community. They launched a non-profit, Legendary Hoops, which gives up to $1,000 in scholarships to the employees of his Rita’s locations. They have expanded their network of local community organizations and local sports organizations they partner with to maintain a connection to the next generation of Rita’s team members. Coppermine is proud to have an established partnership with the Holley’s and an organization like Rita’s!
“A couple of my stores are in underemployed areas, and I have 25 young people who work for me, so it is another way to provide jobs for these kids,” said Holley. “This is valuable because for a lot of these young people, it is their first job, their first experience in the workplace, so they are learning”

David Ross Orthodontics has been taking their treat truck everywhere! From our Coppermine United games to the fieldhouse, Coppermine family and friends everywhere have had the opportunity to have some sweets courtesy of DRO!
The Coppermine United home opener on May 21st was Kids Night and DRO made sure they all walked away with a smile on their faces! The treat truck was there before the game and at halftime, kids participated in Candy for Kicks.
As for the Fieldhouse, DRO brought their treat truck on July 12th in celebration of National Ice Cream Day on July 17th! They went out of their way to help hand out sweets to our campers, as the actual National Ice Cream Day fell on a weekend this year.
All these treats definitely put a smile on the faces of our Coppermine kiddos! For all of your smile and orthodontic needs, don’t forget that as a Coppermine community member, you can receive a free consultation (X-rays included), $500 off full orthodontic treatment and $250 off early orthodontic intervention!

Rooster’s Men’s Grooming location at The Shops at Kenilworth in Towson had its grand opening party this past June. It was a terrific event as Towson city officials helped cut the ribbon and Rolling Stone Magazine’s “10 to Watch” recording artist Emma White was rocking the party! There were cold drinks and lots of friends out to support the business owned by Chris Ancona and Chris Rabbu, two lifelong locals. Although June 1st was the grand opening, Rooster’s already has over 900 customers to thank from the last few months.
