Hills and Mountains Letter to Parents Years 5 and 6

Page 1

Dear Parent/Carer, Welcome back after the Summer holiday! I hope you have had a relaxing break and all ready for the new school year. Below are a few points to help start the new term smoothly. Please can we request that all children observe the school’s uniform policy and have their full PE kit in school every day. They also require an outdoor PE kit for games on Fridays. Please also ensure that all children bring a coat to school as the weather is still very changeable. We will be sending homework on a Friday to be completed for the following Wednesday. This will consist of a piece of Maths/English homework to consolidate work done in class and occasional topic work. Reading journals should be completed on a weekly basis and children should read their home-school reading book every evening if possible. Big Write homework will be given out on Thursday in preparation for Friday’s lesson. Spelling lists will be given out on Mondays and tested on the following Monday. Please ensure that any money is sent into school in an envelope with your child’s name, amount and what the money is for to allow money to be processed accurately. Can we also ask that all children are in school on time as lessons start promptly at 8.55am. Our new topic this term is Hills and Mountains and a study of Lord Leverhulme. We are hoping to arrange a visit to Rivington Pike to enrich the topic further. If you have any resources or books on the topic, feel free to send them in to school.
