Registration Information To register for a Kamp Kool 2013 session (camps are detailed on pages 2 to 5), pick up a form at one of the payment sites listed below, or download the form at CoralSprings.org/summerfun. Mail the completed form to the address below. For the seven-week program, mail must be postmarked on or after Monday, March 25, 2013. Registration for four-week programs begins on a space-available basis on Thursday, April 11 (walk-in registrations are also accepted). For best camp selection, please follow these instructions carefully: 1. Complete the registration form and indicate the child’s first, second and third choice of camp sites/programs. 2. One family per envelope! Multi-family registrations mailed in the same envelope will be returned. 3. Enclose a $100 deposit for each child. Please include a separate check or money order for each child. Make checks and money orders payable to the City of Coral Springs, and be sure to include your driver’s license number. 4. Include a non-returnable copy of your child’s current report card. 5. Mail registration form and deposit to: City of Coral Springs Kamp Kool 2013 9551 W. Sample Road Coral Springs, FL 33065

Once your registration form has been received, an invoice will be mailed to you stating your camp placement and balance due. Children are placed in camps on a first-come, firstserved basis. If a camp receives more applications than its capacity, the Parks and Recreation Department will use your second or third choices for enrollment. Please remember: • Applications will be returned if postmarked prior to Monday, March 25. • One household per envelope (one registration form and separate check/money order for each camper). • Only mail delivered (postmarked Monday, March 25 or later) through first-class, regular delivery will be accepted. (Priority mail, special delivery, courier, etc. will not be accepted.) • Please do not send cash. • Correct postage is a must. • Once your child is placed in a camp, the $100 deposit is non-refundable. • Children must be six years of age by September 1, 2013 to enroll in the program or as stated in the description of each camp. • There will be a $25 administration fee for changing camps. All requests must be in writing.

Fun-ART-astic Summer Camp

Session I • June 17 to July 11: $400 Session II • July 15 to August 8: $400 Choose the week you wish to attend: $105 per week Monday through Thursday • 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our campers will experience the joy of learning new skills and gain confidence as they participate in a variety of activities: Spanish, Fine Arts Studio, Science, Games, Sports, Writing & Performances. Fun activities include: hands on experiment, Exploring fabulous animals, Tie-dye t-shirts, Journey around the globe in 8 weeks, clever crafts from recyclables, Themed spirit days, Wet & Wild Thursdays & much more! Our older campers (6th, 7th & 8th Graders) will be introduced to a Leadership Program to start gaining experience in planning, communication & self-confidence. Spring Break Camps Kids in Action!

Kids Day Off, May 24 & June 7 March 22 through 29 • August 12 through 16 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. • $30 per day or $140 per week Gymnastics, Zumbatomics, yoga for kids, theatre games and routines, sports games, cheerleading and arts and crafts means an action-packed week of summer camp for boys and girls entering first through fifth grade. Safety Town Celebrating 27 years in Coral Springs, Safety Town is a comprehensive early childhood, hands-on safety education program designed to introduce all types of safety situations to children between the ages of 4½ and 6½. Registration: Saturday, April 27 • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Location: Safety Town in Kiwanis Park 520 Ramblewood Drive (north of Ramblewood Middle School and the Fire Station in Kiwanis Park) Cost: $60 Eligibility: Must be between 4½ and 6½ years old by June 2013; proof of age required at registration. • Session 1: June 17 – 28, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. • Session 2: July 8 – 19, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. • Session 3: July 8 – 19, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. • Session 4: July 22 – August 2, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. • Session 5: July 22 – August 2, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. (Dates are subject to change.) For the past 17 years, Coral Springs has participated in the county-wide effort, drawing out more than 450 volunteers last year. Participants will help search the City’s waterways for litter and debris. Students are eligible to receive volunteer service hours. Teen Success Day

Thursday, March 21 • 12:45 p.m. Coral Springs Gymnasium • 2501 Coral Springs Dr. A joint effort between the City of Coral Springs, and the Kiwanis Club of Coral Springs, high school students will learn about the importance of applying for jobs, leadership and volunteerism. Papa John’s will be supplying pizza, Toshiba Business Solutions has donated a special prize, and McDonald’s, Firehouse Subs, and Sawgrass Lanes have donated raffle prizes. Students must be in 9-12 grades, a Coral Springs resident and/or attend a Coral Springs school. Service hours will be given. Call 954-345-2204 to register by March 15.

Triple Threat Basketball Summer Boot Camp

Elev8 Sports Institute

Summer Basketball Boot Camp is for Boys and Girls ages 7-14. These basketball camps will advance your game by mastering triple threat moves to the basket, improve ball-handling skills, shooting form and technique, team defense, team offense, and help players understand how to play the game from multiple positions, from the perimeter, post, wing, and on the ball.

Training Camp

Our flagship instructional program includes instruction on hitting, bunting, defensive classes, infield and outfield training, pitching, catching and many specialty drills. Special sessions on sliding, base stealing, run-downs and proper throwing mechanics are also included. Students will play in games, take extra batting practice and pitchers will work off the mound. Proper stretching and arm exercises are also included. Overall, the Training Camp program is the most comprehensive instructional program available.

Kreul Basketball Camps

For the past 21 years, the Kreul organization has hosted one of the country’s premier high school basketball tournaments featuring South Florida’s finest teams testing their skills against top programs from across the nation. Through their camps and clinics, players of all ability levels will develop confidence in their skills, target areas for improvement and gain a greater appreciation for the game while having fun in a safe, positive, instructional environment. Activities include games, contests, drills and more! Rookie Ball A half-day program for those who are new to baseball. We play games with our instructors throwing overhand and a low student/instructor ratio ensures extra attention is paid to your camper. We stress the importance of learning the fundamentals of fielding, throwing, hitting, and base running. Rookie Ball is run separately from the rest of the camp, and we make baseball fun to evoke a passion for the game. Gary Curreri’s Simply Soccer

Simply Soccer Camp stresses the four components of soccer. Camp Director Gary Curreri has a USSF National License, a USSF National Youth License, and is a Florida Youth Soccer Association State Staff Coach. Full-day participants receive a free T-shirt, certificates and written evaluation of their performance for the week. Campers must bring a soccer ball, swim suit, shinguards, water bottle and lunch. Skate Park Coral Springs Skate Park The Coral Springs Skate Park is located adjacent to the Slide ‘N Glide playground at Betti Stradling Park, on the northeast corner of Wiles Road and Coral Springs Drive. Rollerbladers and skateboarders use the park to practice their skills on the various ramps, dips and bowls. Contests and professional demonstrations take place on occasion. There are bleachers at the park for spectators and parents to watch the skaters and bladers.

Gymnasium Classes & Programs

Sticky Fingers, with instructor Jean Rao, provides ongoing arts and crafts classes. Children will explore different mediums through hands-on activities with parental and instructor assistance. Sticky Fingers classes for children ages 2 to 5 are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays and classes for Children ages 5 to 7 (Sticky Fingers Too) are Wednesdays. Sticky Fingers continues during the summer with Sticky Fingers Camp. Classes are now year-round. Call the instructor at 954-682-1580 for more information.

Summer Camps Sticky Fingers

August 6 to 10 • 9 a.m. to noon • Monday to Friday Sartory Hall • Cost: $100 • Ages 4 to 7 Fee includes snacks, drinks, and all supplies. Daily themes will guide Sticky Fingers campers through a variety of fun activities. Children will explore through hands on activities, at various stations using paint, dough and textures.

American School of Etiquette & Fashion empowering young children to achieve their maximum potential by building confidence in their social skills. During class we teach the basics of charm, walking with confidence, meet & greet, dining etiquette, manners in public places, poise, fashion and much more. Ballroom Dancing classes, with former professional dancer and master teacher Lavonne Lear, will make American and Latin ballroom dances fun and easy to learn. Kids Kabaret Summer Camp Session 1 • June 10 - July 5 Kids Kabaret presents Rogers and Hammersteins Cinderella. When the shoe fits, the unlikeliest of girls becomes a princess, and dreams really do come true. A beloved classic tale, Cinderella is a musical written for television, with music by Richard Rodgers and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It is based upon the fairy tale Cinderella This romantic and humorous version of the ultimate makeover story features all the classic elements (the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more) but with some surprising new twists. The Coral Springs Dive Club is a year-round program competitive program for children and young adults. Diving teaches discipline, self-confidence and teamwork. The Coral Springs Masters and Adult Fitness Swim Program is a year-round adult program designed for swimmers. The main focus of the program is to improve stroke, endurance, health and fitness. Triathletes are welcome. Competitions are available but not required. To participate in the program, you must be at least 19 years old and be able to swim 500 yards.

Diving is a full-scale recreational program featuring state-ofthe-art equipment in one of the best outdoor facilities in the country. Advanced Swimming Techniques

Swimming is a low-impact, highly aerobic, and full-body exercise that can be used for life. Many swimmers have difficulty with their strokes that can be corrected with proper instruction. This program is designed to make swimmers technically better oneon-one with Coach Jackson. Participants will undergo a series of drills and tips to correct body position, pull phases, kick recovery for any stroke desired. Requirements: Must be able to swim 400 yards, Fins, Goggles, Cap (if hair is long) Cost: $30/half hour class

SwimAmerica Lessons

SwimAmerica is a learn-to-swim program for children between the ages of 3-12 years. SwimAmerica teaches water safety skills for the beginner and the four competitive strokes to the more advanced swimmer. The program is also an excellent preparation for swimmers who would like to join the Coral Springs Swim Club. It offers a low child-to-teacher ratio, a flexible schedule and the children progress at their own pace. Classes are held continuously throughout the year and are taught at the Aquatic Complex. Summer Recreational Swim Team This swim team is designed for children ages 6 and up who have experience in swimming at or above American Red Cross Level III. This program teaches the fundamentals of competitive swimming, including lap swimming for endurance, new techniques, stretches, drills, games and a lot of fun. There is a fun swim meet at the end of each session. A swimming test is required for all participants. Learn to Swim Summer Swimming Lesson Registration Registration begins on Saturday, April 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Aquatic Complex for swimming lessons at all three pools. As of April 28, registration will be taken at the respective pools. To register, you must have a certificate of completion to enter into the next level or have your child swim tested at the Aquatic Complex before the April 27 registration (call the Aquatic Complex for testing times). Skills introduced include: supported front and back floats and glides, coordination of arm and leg movements, rolling over, safe water entries and exits, and other safety skills. Level I: Introduction to Water Skills and Level II: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills for Beginners are combined: Prerequisites for Level I are to be 6 years or older. Prerequisites for Level II is a certificate of completion for all skills in Level I or the ability to demonstrate all requirements for passing Level I. Skills include: Mastering the feel of water and being comfortable, entering and exiting the pool, moving five yards unassisted, front float, rollover to the back and float with assistance. The progression to Level II will review these skills and include front and back float. Expansion of fundamental aquatic locomotion including combined strokes on front and back and rhythmic breathing.

Level III (Stroke Development) Prerequisite: A certificate from Level II or demonstration of skills successfully. Builds on the skills in Level II by providing additional guided practice. Introduced skills include headfirst entries; rotary breathing front/back glides with kick, coordinated front and back crawl for 15 yards, begin butterfly kick, body motion, and safety skills. Level IV (Stroke Improvement) Prerequisite: A Level III certificate or the ability to demonstrate and complete the requirements from Level III. Develops confidence in strokes learned with the addition of feet first surface dives, building endurance, front and back crawl, treading water, above water recovery for butterfly, scissors kick, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke with kick and safety skills. Level V (Stroke Refinement) Prerequisite: A Level IV certificate or the ability to demonstrate and complete the requirements from Level IV. Further coordination and refinement of all strokes. Skills introduced include: tuck and pike surface dives; long shallow dives; flip turns; endurance building; refinement of all strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke 25-50 yards); and safety skills including rescue breathing and caring for a choking victim. Level VI (Swimming and Skill Proficiency) Prerequisite: A Level V certificate or the ability to demonstrate and complete the requirements from Level V. Refines the strokes so students swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. This level has options on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, such as water safety instructor and lifeguard training. These options include personal water safety, lifeguard readiness, fundamentals of diving, and fitness swimming. Adult/Teen Beginner Swimming Lessons Adults over 15: This course is designed to teach adults 15 years and up the fundamentals of swimming. It is for all adult swimmers with little experience in the water. Classes are taught to every individual’s ability and number no more than 8 students per class.

Sawgrass Nature Center & Wildlife Hospital The Sawgrass Nature Center & Wildlife Hospital is a wonderful environmental learning center and wildlife rehabilitation facility located in Sportsplex Park. Adults and children can visit with and learn about wildlife, look for butterflies in the butterfly garden, take a stroll on the trail and view wildlife in the wetlands. Escape the hustle and bustle of life and eat a picnic on a bench, while taking in the serenity of the Center. The Center is open to the public for self – guided tours or join one of the many special programs offered throughout the year. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Hospital The SNC also operates a wildlife rehabilitation facility caring for injured, sick and orphaned wild native birds, mammals and reptiles with the hope of releasing them back into the wild. Those that cannot be released are kept as “educational ambassadors” and are on display at the Center or used in their educational programs.
