A DYNAMIC DECADE – BOERNE PERFORMING ARTS

After much anticipation, Boerne Performing Arts is thrilled to announce its 2021-2022 Season! Artists and audiences alike are eager to enjoy live performances again in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, and the tradition continues with a three-concert series and a special holiday performance. Since the organization’s inception 10 years ago, Boerne Performing Arts has presented over 30 concerts from around the globe.

“Boerne Performing Arts was created by a very motivated group of local individuals who undertook the mission of bringing the world of professional performing arts to Boerne, Texas,” says Cathie Meadows, a founding member of BPA. And the community embraced their endeavor wholeheartedly. “Since the very beginning, The GVTC Foundation, Frost Bank, City of Boerne and Heart’s Home Acoustics have been sponsors of Boerne Performing Arts. Soon after our inception, Cordillera Ranch joined us as a sponsor. We could not possibly have the quality shows that we offer without

the support of these sponsors. They make it possible for us to keep ticket prices affordable for our community, plus they are the reason we are able to offer our FOR KIDS concerts at no cost to students or the school district,” adds Carol Schultz, founding member and current Board President. The Boerne Independent School District (BISD) has also played a vital role in the organization’s success. Through their partnership, all performances take place in the 985-seat Champion Auditorium at Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School, a state-of-the-art facility, commended for its acoustics, design and access to the school’s rehearsal facilities. In turn, BPA has hosted more than 28,000 students in its Boerne Performing Arts FOR KIDS outreach program where students get to The Ten Tenors experience live concerts by world-class artA DYNAMIC ists during special matinee performances. This season, another 4,000 students in grades 2-5 will participate. “Not only is it great entertainment for the ticket holders, but it’s contribution to the school children

DECADE of Boerne is immeasurable. They are able to see these performers up close and often are allowed to ask questions and meet the performers,” says Karen Hunke, a Cordillera Ranch resident who, along with husband Boerne Performing Arts celebrates its Phil, was an early supporter of BPA. Additionally, BPA presents “Preludes and 10th anniversary of bringing exceptional, world-class Interludes” in the Champion Auditorium lobby. Meadows explains, “For our three performing artists to the community season concerts, we feature one musical performing group from our secondary By Ann Koehler :: Photography courtesy of Boerne Performing Arts schools, and visual art student work will also be displayed as well. It gives recognition to the achievements of individual student artists, and is an added delight for our concert goers to view.” There have also been many volunteers throughout the years, instrumental in the organization’s success, with several from Cordillera Ranch. “The community of Cordillera Ranch has always been active in our volunteer organization. Numerous residents have served on the Board or volunteered in many different areas,” says Meadows. Past Board member Mary Colacurci is a Cordillera Ranch resident, along with Terry Weller who has consistently contributed to committees. Mary Colacurci says, “It was so gratifying to serve on this Board for seven years and to watch it’s growth and recognition within the community. At the time I joined the Board, BPA was new to Boerne and so was I. I came from the non-profit world and I can honestly say that I had never seen such support and cooperation from so many entities to bring this effort to life. From BISD, to the City, the Boerne-Kendall County Economic Development Corporation (BKCEDC), the Chamber, the

Boerne Convention and Visitors Bureau and corporate support — it only worked because all of these partners, and others, worked together. Cordillera Ranch, both its residents and corporately, became a bedrock of support to the organization.”

Cordillera Ranch also hosted “The Five Browns” in a special evening at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, and Karen and Phil Hunke hosted a reception with “Time for Three” at their home in Cordillera Ranch as well. “It was great fun to have the ‘Time for Three’ give a short preview of their performance here in our home. They loved performing in an actual home, so I jokingly said, ‘Well, you could spend the night here if you like.’ They didn’t hesitate for a minute since they had been on the road and staying in hotels since leaving home! It was fun having such delightful young men in our home,” recalls Karen.

“I can’t say enough about the wonderful volunteers who give their time and sponsors who give their donations to this organization. We are thankful to Cordillera Ranch and its residents for the part they have played in the success of Boerne Performing Arts,” emphasized Meadows.

In its first ten seasons, Boerne Performing Arts has fulfilled its mission to feature internationally acclaimed artists, educate through student outreach programs and enrich the quality of life in the community.
