First of all I was delighted to discover that our favourite restaurant here at Core Celino’s won two awards at the recent Scottish Italian awards - Best Bistro and Head Chef Chris Rouse won Best Chef. Well deserved in my opinion. Whilst on the theme of all-thing-Italian, we have a feature on the late great James gandolfini’s last movie The Drop and as expected have a fantastcic tie-in competition with three goodie bags up for grabs.

graduated from Rutgers University before beginning his acting career in New York theatre. He made his Broadway debut in the 1992 revival of A Streetcar Named Desire, with Alec Baldwin and Jessica Lange. Returning to the stage in 2009, Gandolfini earned a Tony® Award nomination for his performance in the Broadway production of Matthew Warchus’s Tony Award-winning play God of Carnage, starring alongside Marcia Gay Harden, Jeff Daniels and Hope Davis. As Cousin Marv, Bob’s older-but-no-wiser father figure, James Gandolfini invests the character with a lived-in, streetwise weariness. “Cousin Marv has a lot of foibles,” says Topping. “Jim added a level of veracity. He was a very complicated, very gifted actor and was able to provide real nuance to that character.” Working with the veteran actor at the height of his artistic powers was a profound experience for everyone involved, including Lehane, whose past collaborators have included such Oscar® winners as Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Ben Affleck and Clint Eastwood. “Jim understood that Marv is chasing the past harder than anyone else. He used to be somebody. He blinked when some tougher guys came along and he’s never gotten over it, so he’s making one last-ditch effort to grab the brass ring. But he is very sadly deluded if he thinks that’s going to work out well,” Lehane says. Roskam, a long-time of fan of the actor, says he was sometimes surprised to see Gandolfini on set when he wasn’t shooting or rehearsing. “It was amazing to work with a guy who had such a track record. He was so experienced, and yet he would question
himself so hard. I finally understood that that’s how he approached every character. He started blank, like the notebook he carried with him. He analyzed the journey of his character and he wrote it all out. He allowed himself to be very vulnerable and insecure with me. I think he was afraid that I would be intimidated and tell him everything he did was good.” Hardy was equally in awe of the actor. “James Gandolfini was a talented, kind and sensitive artist,” he says. “He brought a wealth of authenticity and truthfulness to the role. It was great fun to work with him because he was a quick and funny man with a lot of heart. I don’t think I would have laughed half as much with another actor on set. Very few people have the ability to be so compelling that even if you are not part of a scene, it’s impossible not to watch. They’re too good not to enjoy. I felt I failed Jimmy several times simply because I was enjoying watching him work when I should have been working too.” THE DROP is a new crime drama from Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters -"money drops" - in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood's past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living -- no matter the cost.

It is the fifth project of the ever popular Scorsese/DiCaprio collaboration and it seems that they have yet another success to add to their list. After having won the Golden Globe for Best Actor, Leo is on Oscar winning form for his fantastic portrayal of this greedy yet fascinating businessman. 'The Wolf of Wall Street' is both outrageous and incredibly humorous, and despite being three hours of runtime, there is never a dull moment as Scorsese takes us on a fascinating ride through the greed and corruption that wealth can bring, making it a definite one to watch

Celino’s win Best Bistro and Best Chef at the Scottish Italian Awards Celino’s Head Chef Chris Rouse triumphed at the Scottish Italian awards by winning Best Chef at the prestigious award ceremony and gala dinner held at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow
a variety of categories including best restaurant, best independent multiple operator and many more. Voting is open to the general public ensuring that the awards reflect Scotland’s favourite Italian places to go and have a good time.
Attended by over 700 hundred people he beat hundreds of hopefuls - with 30,000 people voting in the run-up to the finals to make it to the final judging session, where he had to cook in front of celebrity chef and restaurateur aldo zilli.
Celino's also won the title Best Bistro and previous accolades include Best Café 2012 and Best Deli/Bistro 2013 titles in the Scottish Entertainment guide awards.
Entertainment was provided by Edward Reid of Britain's got Talent and musical theatre school gaMTa and the evening also included a charity auction in aid of Enable Scotland. The annual event, showcased the fantastic range and quality of Scotland’s Italian owned businesses. The awards recognise

With Tom Munro www.tommunro.co.uk When Chancellor George Osborne delivered his budget in March, few of us expected he would announce such sweeping changes to the current pension’s legislation, with the biggest surprise of all, the choice of whether we purchase an annuity at our chosen retirement date or opt for a number of other alternatives. Annuities in my view had become a lottery in recent years, leaving the individual giving up work at 65 with no alternative to locking into poor annuity rates which have basically halved over the past seven years or so as they depend heavily on the Bank of England base rate and 15 year gilt yields, both at all-time lows. So, when the announcement “you won’t have to buy an annuity at retirement” rang out across a stunned house of commons, the life and pensions industry automatically went into overdrive immediately putting in place the development of innovative new products. At the same time, around £3.4 billion was wiped of the shares of the UK’s largest annuity providers Partnership and Just Retirement. Annuities will still play a vital role in retirement planning, and remain suitable for those who are risk-averse preferring the certainty of guaranteed income for life.

This is the most important planning you will undertake why, because we are generally living longer. Imagine retiring slightly earlier at say 60, and living into your mid-eighties, this 25 year period is around two-thirds of your working life, so the all-important pot of money accumulated at the point of retirement has to be utilised in such a way that income will be maintained over the longer –term without running out.
