This November the boys at CORE have decided to donate their faces and take part in Movember. This is to help raise awareness for men’s health, even though you may think it’s just to annoy their wives or girlfriends. That’s just an added bonus. Their commitment is to grow a moustache for the entire month of Movember, which should generate some conversation, controversy, laughter and odd looks as let’s face it, they do look pathetic. We are asking you to help support their efforts by making a donation to the team known as....
It’s been full speed ahead at CORE headquarters getting our third issue out to the masses and, well here it is! While there’s been enough work to sink a ship to get this out, we managed to find time to put our best party pants on and have some much needed fun at the Mackay launch party at ZeBar on October 1. Check out all the photos on page 24 and 25. For all our Airlie Beach readers, your turn is just around the corner...check out the details on the inside back cover. Til next time amigos, remember to slip-slopslap as the days get hotter and summer starts to rear its ugly head! (You know what that means...it’s festival season! Can anyone say road trip?)

Having chalked up thousands of hours behind the decks, playing to crowds of any size is a walk in the park for Simon Says who definitely knows how to please a crowd. His infamous yet slightly different style of banging tech and elctro is unmistakeable!
Music has always been a passion of Gemma, AKA Gypkidd’s life. She loves entertaining the crowd with music from genres such as electro house, progressive and dutch house. Watch out for this girl, she knows how to start a party and finish it at dawn.
Known as Melbourne’s mashup king, Dixie has a huge archive of his remixes and bootlegs being played by DJ’s worldwide. Priding himself on being “about the party”, his only intention is to leave sweat dripping from the speakers.
Andy Ski has quickly risen to become a highly sought after industry personality. Andy’s sets feature an all round live performance, including a massive cross selection of House/Electro/Party Rock Tunes, combined with live vocals and crazy stage antics.
Adelaide DJ – “DJ Femme” has been notoriously noted in the industry as ‘the one to watch’. This blonde beauty knows how to set the vibe and feed off the crowd. It’s clear to see why she is on the way up.
Constantine is one of the most recognised DJs in North Queensland His big room house and electro sounds make Constantine definitely one to watch in years to come.
Let’s be serious - what kind of DJ climbs on top of the DJ console, mid-set, and starts jumping around? This reckless abandonment of personal safety is far from a gimmick. Rather, it’s a perfect example of the festival like energy and excitement Kronic brings to any club.
MR K & Chris Leverington have developed their own unique style of house and electro beats to get any dance floor pumping, always bringing the hottest and freshest tunes. For the music, for the experience, for a night to remember, it’s gotta be Mr K & Chris Leverington.

After spending a couple of years as one-third of local band PJ Reh, Brad Butcher is now out on his own as a solo artist. He’s well on his way to making a big name for himself and CORE magazine caught up with him on the eve of the launch of his brand new album. So Brad, you’ve been on the Mackay music scene for awhile now, what’s been your favourite musical memory? When I was in PJ Reh we A supported a couple of big names that came through Mackay and Airlie Beach like Shannon Noll, The Beautiful Girls and Ash Grunwald so that was pretty cool and heaps of fun. I also performed at the Wine and Food Day (part of the Mackay Festival of Arts) with my band last year and at the River

to Reef Festival this year. In August I played at ‘The Round’ at Dowse Bar in Brisbane at an open mic night to a packed house. I was on stage with Busby Marou – it was pretty cool. You’re just about to launch your first full length album, can you tell us a bit about it? A The album will be out mid November and I can’t wait. I’d describe it as the perfect travelling album, great to sit back and relax to on the road. Four members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra helped me out with all the strings on the album, and my drummer and pedal steel guitarist have both toured with Graeme Connors’ in the past. Ben McCarthy produced and co-wrote some songs and he played in Pete Murray’s band as
Q
What’s the first concert you ever went to?
I think it was Silverchair when they came to the Mackay Showgrounds in 1997. I was only 14 and I can vividly remember the shocking B.O. that was coming off some of the people there. That would have been their ‘Freak Show’ tour.

his musical director up until early this year. Anthony Lycenko also produced and mixed the album, and he’s also worked with Pete Murray as well as Busby Marou. So I had a lot of experienced and very talented guys helping me out through the process.
Brad Butcher’s self titled album is his first full length release and will be available from mid November. Also check out ‘Brad Butcher’ on Facebook and MySpace for all the deets on when and where Brad will be playing around town.
D
Sounds great mate! So how did you get started in making music? Who are your inspirations? A My mum started me off by introducing me to the piano and handing me a guitar when I was younger. My dad used to play me heaps of Garth Brooks and The Eagles too. I just love listening to and making music. These days my favourites to listen to are Ryan Adams and Ray Lamontagne who play really nice relaxed tunes.
Q
What’s your ultimate music goal? I’d love to be able to give A up my day job of being a cabinetmaker and just be a full time muso. I’d also love to be able to say “I’m going on tour”. That would be cool.
Q
What’s your favourite concert that you’ve been to? A At last year’s Blues and Roots Festival, Buddy Guy did an amazing set. I’ll always remember it because he had a packed out tent and he was just cracking jokes while he was playing and the crowd was going off. They were some good times...

Ricdikulous is a Mackay-based two-piece band who have quickly gained an enthusiastic fan base. We sat the boys down for a quick chat to find out what they’ve been up to lately and what’s on the cards next. So boys, how did the band form? We’ve both come from D really musical backgrounds, we’ve been singing and playing instruments since forever. Before Ricdikulous I was in a band called Ro Armu Tani which was pretty successful for awhile. We released an album together and had a bit of merchandise that we sold.
Q
R I actually gave Dik a job with me a few years back and we just started jamming together. Our first gig was at the Lucky Aussie. A lot of people will know we were a duo, then went to a four-piece, now we’re back to an acoustic duo which is what we like best. I’ve been a DJ at Mainstreet for a couple of years so we’ve been 12 • www.coremag.com.au
on the Mackay music scene for awhile. How do you describe your sound? A lot of our fans know us R for the covers we play. We like taking music that has a heavy metal sound and turning into our own. We do a few, what you would call medleys or mash-ups that are like five songs that we play backto-back as one. Basically we like playing songs that people haven’t heard in ages in a way that makes them think ‘what the hell is going on here’ but they love it at the same time.
Q
What’s been your favourite gig? D We were the first cab off the rank at River Sessions this year so that’s been a big highlight.
Q
Is there an album or EP on the cards? Definitely, we’ll be working R on recording something before the end of this year. We’re
Q
just about to go on a two week road trip down to Brisbane and northern New South Wales to write a heap of songs. We’ll also hit the Australia’s Got Talent auditions in Brisbane, to see if we can’t get our faces on TV. When we come back from that trip will be keen to record the songs we’ve written as soon as we can. Sounds good boys. Look forward to hearing your new tracks soon!

We arrived at our favourite hotel in the Whitsundays – Airlie Beach Hotel. When it came to deciding what to have for dinner we had a quick paper scissors rock off and settled in for a steak and some cider. We both knew we had an early start the next day but that cider was just way too good. So I said “Come on, just one at Down Under Bar?”….knowing full well we were in for a big night. After some vodka buckets at DUB, shots at Evolution Bar, and plenty of dancing, in no time at all we could feel the sun rise and it was finally time to head to bed. Next morning I thought I’d be on Struggle Street but when the alarm sung at 6am I was up, pumped and ready to go. We arrived at the Cruise Whitsundays to be greeted

by the happiest man I think I have ever met; Peter. He clearly hadn’t had any vodka buckets the previous night! BEN We couldn’t ask for a better day to hit the reef. The sun was out, the winds were down and the bacon and egg rolls were sitting well with the sea sick tablets. Our host for the day was Peter who was better known as ‘The Beast’. I wasn’t sure whether he’d got that name from his diving abilities or whether he was simply a hit with the ladies but I had all day to find out. After being welcomed aboard the Cruise Whitsundays we were off and a couple of hours later our platoon was in sight! We were straight into it and Pete from Reef Safari was leading the way. Like an assembly line, we were suited up, weighted up and given oxygen tanks; not to mention a few friendly slaps on the bum from those around me. Not an excuse to try this on the ladies though; unless you have a nickname like ‘The Beast’ (only joking Pete). Once suited, we

were lead to the deck below and hopped straight in the water. After a couple of test runs to make sure we were comfortable breathing, Courtney and I followed Pete’s lead and hit the reef. The challenge was to find seven garden gnomes that had been carefully placed around the reef. At first, I was too busy watching air bubbles rise to the surface; Courtney was soon on her way to a quick win. Luck saw me snag a few and with a couple of thumbs up from Pete, I was back in the game and we were sitting at three a piece. And just like a bad scene from a movie, I saw the last gnome’s head rise in the distance; all that was missing was some slow motion and a cheesy love song. With a final thumbs up from Pete I had won the reef challenge. This was soon followed by an outburst of bubbles from Courtney’s mouth; I suppose that’s what happens when you swear underwater. We had barely dried ourselves off before we were told to get ready as were off to see the reef from a helicopter! The guys at HeliReef Whitsundays were unreal; taking
us right over the reef in what can only be described as the ‘best seat in the house’. The final surprise of the day came when Pete threw on a wizard hat and with storybook in his hand, settled in for story time. I know what you’re thinking and I was thinking the same but I soon found out you’re never too old for a story. These guys owned it! Both young and old were laughing away as Pete and the crew entertained the crowd and acted out their best ‘rumpus’. Then it was our turn; while I failed miserably, Courtney smashed it and won a free beer for her efforts. All up it was a great day from start to finish. Big thanks to Cruise Whitsundays, Reef Safari and HeliReef Whitsundays for showing us an absolute piece of paradise. Not to mention Peter who was an absolute star and showed me why he truly was ‘The Beast’ of the Whitsunday Islands.

While the CR65 may look small and unassuming, it packs way more of a punch than you would expect with 14/12” wheels, 6-speed gearbox, and suspension that is externally adjustable. For Husqvarna the CR65 is not “like a motocross bike”, it is a motocross bike! Little tackers will fly on this thing with its single cylinder, 2-stroke, liquid cooled engine, but at the same time the power delivery is just right for those learning to handle a powerful bike. The CR65 is a true competition bike and the chassis replicates the larger Husqvarna models like the TC449 (which we featured in our October issue). The 6-speed gearbox has a clutch with hydraulic command, for more sensitivity and less strain on the rider. Above all else, the engine is absolutely reliable. And all this in a neat and tidy 55kg package (without fuel)!

Grab your mates, load up the car and get set for some 4WD action
Before upgrading your suspension, consider the following:
ride over corrugations. The other type is the constant load lift kit, which is designed to carry a load regularly and is more suited to tradies.
• Useage – are you heading off road or are you a tradie using the vehicle for work? • Extra weight added to your vehicle (accessories such as bull bar, winch, second spare tyre or even an engine conversion that may be heavier than the original). The location of these may disrupt the weight balance. • Production date & series number of your vehicle.
Note: A common misconception with lift kits is that they increase the load capacity. This is not true! If your load capacity is 1 tonne, you will still only be able to carry 1 tonne, but your suspension will be heavier meaning that there will be less strain on the vehicle.
Which lift kit should I choose? There are two main types of lift kits. For 4WDing, a performance lift kit is ideal. It gives you the extra ground clearance with a smoother
Shock Absorbers Vehicles from the factory have shock absorbers that are oil based which rely on springs for return. When upgrading your suspension you’ll need to choose between gas or foam shock absorber which unlike their oil based brothers, provide an automatic return.
What shocks are best for 4WDing? The best shocks for off road driving are foam. This is because the larger piston & bore size (the cylinder inside the shock where the action happens) allows for more oil capacity which means that the shocks operate cooler in rough conditions or long haul corrugations. Gas shocks are more suited to tradies. They come in soft or heavy versions depending on the load you plan on carrying. The softer the version, the lower carrying capacity and the smoother the ride.
A common misconception with lift kits is that they increase the load capacity. This is not true!

Tips for fishing fanatics from Ashley Matthews at Sea Fever Sportfishing Whitsundays.
Growing in excess of 60kg and harassing anything that swims is what GT’s do, although the average size here in the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef waters wide of the islands is around 15-20kg. This size will still test anglers and gear to the max, and when hooked you will
think you are connected to a Mack truck that wants to pull you from the boat! GT’s often feed in large groups, they round up schools of bait fish before sending the water into foam as it becomes a feeding frenzy where very little is left behind other than scales!
The fish is a 12 kg Estuary Cod which was caught on Crusader2 charter boat by Brett Moohin of the River View Deep Sea Fishing Club on their recent charter out to Eaton Reef.
GT’s can be caught using almost any method from live and dead bait fishing, to trolling hard and soft bodied lures, or jigging with metal slice lures in a vertical action. The best and most visually exciting way is by casting surface poppers and stick baits around the reef edges or bait schools.

The best method is to position your boat in the deeper water to give you the best chance of not being rubbed out on the coral reef once hooked up.

lean burn control and is also NMEA 2000 compliant, allowing the engine to communicate with compatible marine electronics. The styling concept of the new Honda BF250, is a change from previously introduced Honda Marine outboards, with a sleeker and slimmer aesthetic design, making it one of the sexiest outboards available on the market.
Honda Marine four-stroke outboard engines are not only technologically advanced, offer greater fuel technology, and superior power but also meet some of the most stringent environmental regulations in the world. The BF250 will be released in Australia towards the end of this year.
• Wash your outboard with fresh water and soap after every trip to remove salt and dirt deposits. This is not just a necessity for salt water adventures but also applies to fresh water outings. • Flush the engine after each use, ensuring it runs for at least five to ten minutes for a thorough clean. • Regularly remove the cowling and visually check and clean the engine, ensuring to lubricate with a lanolin-based aerosol oil to provide corrosive resistance. • Check the propeller and seals and remove any debris, ensuring to clean and grease regularly. • Check the propeller for any surface damage.

A brand new video games show, Save Point looks at upcoming game releases, all the classic titles, as well as the latest gaming news. Rae says, “I’ve finally been able to come out of the closet as a gaming nerd. Yes it’s true – I’m totally unbeatable at Tekken and the undefeated champion at my place!”
“And since I’ve already outed myself I can also admit to loving Zombie games and indulging my SingStar fetish!” On top of being a joystick junkie, Rae also has a few films under her belt, including being leading lady in the 2007 Australian-made horror film Devil’s Gateway, which was shot in a Maitland jail in the middle of winter. “Being a horror film, we did everything under the cover of darkness so there were a lot of night shoots that we did in freezing cold temperatures in a haunted old jail! But probably the biggest challenge was trying to act completely terrified of a polystyrene cup on a stick which I had to pretend was the nasty demon that was out to get us (which was later made to look all scary and real through the magic of computer generated imagery!).”
Issue 3 • 2011 • 27
But getting back to Rae’s current project. “I’m sooooo lucky to be working on Save Point – I basically get paid to play video games and then talk about them. It’s an unbelievably fun job and all my friends are so jealous.” And one that she kind of fell into. “The producers of the show were recruiting for a new presenter after the success of their pilot, so I auditioned and here I am!”
beautiful place. When you come down the hill into Airlie, hit the roundabout and spot the blue water when you haven’t been back for ages, it just takes your breath away. I love it! So I don’t mind the commute between here and Sydney so much.” Well Rae, after such a lovely chat I think we have a bit of a COREcrush! Don’t forget to check out her new show Save Point, airing Saturdays on One HD.

“My co-presenters are Jeremy ‘Junglist’ Ray, Paul Verhoeven and Amali Ward. Gaming connoisseurs will know Jung as an expert in the field, Paul is a regular presenter on Triple J and Amali came pretty close to winning Australian Idol a few years back. Actually I’m looking forward to challenging Amali to a SingStar battle in the near future – it’ll be on!” When asked how Rae came to be splitting her time between the Sydney big smoke and laid-back lifestyle of the Whitsundays, Rae says, “After I’d been here once, it was just too hard to leave for good! The weather is absolutely amazing and it is just the most

Tattooing has become wildly popular worldwide, especially here in Mackay and the Whitsundays. Every aspect of tattooing is now better than it ever was in the past; it is now widely accepted as a genuine art form by the general community with numerous skilful tattooists turning out constantly more aesthetic, brighter and most importantly, a much more creative tattoo. There are plenty of tattoo parlours in the area and one of the most popular is Phatt Tatt2 on Victoria Street, Mackay. Phatt Tatt2 has come a long way from its early days in 1989 when main man Fletch moved from Melbourne to make Mackay his home, having to
evolve to meet growing demand over the years. Their newest studio boasts six separate private tattoo work stations and a separate piercing booth. It’s all about being better presented, with the latest sophisticated equipment for the purposes of sterilisation, health and hygiene. With thousands of designs on file, the guys and girls at Phatt Tatt2 can do all styles, from realistic to tribal, and celtic to old school. And if nothing on the books takes your fancy you can always bring in your own design for reference which can then be re-drawn.

Australian blokes have a long tradition of doing dangerous work where our tootsies are at a high risk of being mangled beyond recognition. From way back in the gold rush days of the 1880’s to the mining boom of today, hard yakka has meant we all need to invest in the best pair of steel-capped boots we can find. Manufacturers of work boots have been steadily enhancing both the protection and comfort features of boots including adding cushioning of boot soles with shockabsorbing materials, to reduce workplace fatigue and orthopaedic
problems in the lower back, legs and feet. They’re also cleverly treating the boots to be odour, fungus and bacteria resistant, hence prolonging the life of the boot (and saving the nostrils of co-workers, friends and family!). With popular brands including Oliver, Blundstone, Steel Blue, Red Wing, Redback, Rossi, T-Boots, Victor, King Gee and Thomas Cook, steel toe caps offer the best protection for our toes. The girls can also get kitted out with a range of ladies safety boots available and there are soft-toed work boots getting around too.

When it comes to cleaning and maintaining heavy machinery or large objects including houses, high pressure cleaning is one of the quickest, most effective and environmentally friendly methods available. It makes light work of getting grime off large industrial items like draglines and face shovels, and domestic areas like your driveway, or your car or boat which may require more than just an average wash. There is equipment available locally that’s designed to blast out water at 1,500psi to 8,000psi and from 8L to 50L per minute!
Jetwave Mackay is located on the edge of the Mackay City Centre district and sells a large range of high pressure water cleaning products from 10 amp single phase domestic units, 3 phase industrial units, and petrol or diesel driven units, each available in either hot or cold water.

Let’s start with a story. A long, long time ago (ok, not that long), local lady Mel got tired of sitting on the beach, watching her husband and his mates kiteboarding and generally ripping it up on the water. So she decided it was her turn for some action and has never looked back. Ten years on, Mel is one of kiteboarding’s biggest advocates, teaching anyone who wants to learn how to get into the sport. She’s especially passionate about encouraging more women to take up the sport and is excited to the see gradual shift that has occurred where more and more women are joining in and competing at a high level. Mel’s stepped into the competition ring herself more than a few times and has had her share of success placing second in the Loop Speed Challenge at the Alva Awakening Weekend in May last year, clocking in

at 48km/h. “That was against the boys and was super fun. I love speed! I have done a few competitions over the last five years, and competed in three National titles but mainly just to promote women in the sport. To be honest, I don’t enjoy the pressure of competing much at all, I just love to get out there and ride!” Counting nine-time kiteboarding world champion Kristin Boese among her good friends, Mel has well and truly made an impact on a sport that is rapidly growing and gaining popularity. “I am all about the growth and development of the sport. It’s the fastest growing water sport in the world and they (the International Kiteboarding Association) are working on getting the Racing Discipline of Kiteboarding into the Olympics which would be unreal.
Definitely won’t be in London but fingers crossed it may make it to the next one after that (2016 in Rio).” Through her association with the kiteboarding community, Mel has scored the roles of presenter on a 100% dedicated kiteboarding TV series called Kitelife which was aired on Fuel TV and Aurora on Foxtel, and as the roaming editor for Australian Kiteboarder Magazine. These roles gave her opportunities to travel to kiting events in exotic locations including Fiji and the Cook Islands to capture footage and do interviews with the best of the best international and national riders. So what is it about kiteboarding that Mel loves so much? “I just love the freedom, and the ability to go wherever you want as long as you have wind. Plus all the different ride options – from freestyle, wakestyle, free ride, speed racing, course racing and surf.”

Adnams seems to be a like/hate beer. There are many reviews on both sides of that coin. I happen to like Adnams. It’s a refreshing beer of real flavor; distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious when served cool. This beer also makes for a very good session beer. While there are unique flavours in this beer everything is very muted making for a easy drink and little aftertaste.
Light gold in colour with a clean and hoppy aroma, this Indian lager is clean and refreshing. A very good lager that has a golden hazy appearance, it has a clean crisp taste, with medium bitterness and finishes semi dry. If you’re bored of the regular beer, try this for a refreshing change and you won’t be disappointed.
This is a solid, refreshing lager with citrus and honey notes, Complex, Golden Color. There isn’t much of an aroma here at all, just a very generic beer smell. This isn’t to say that Foster’s is a bad beer, but it’s not a very good one either. It’s basically a light beer with more weight and taste.
The first thing that attracted me to this beer was that it contains absolutely no additives, no preservatives and best of all it’s ingredients are all sourced from within New Zealand where it is brewed. This lager has a sweet, indulging aroma with a rich golden appearance. On the palette it is refreshing with a clean, crisp taste. There is a dominating malt flavour, with a hint of creaminess.

Interest rates are currently on hold with a new report on the mortgage industry revealing strong competition has driven down interest rates as the demand for credit slows. It is important to initially consider your mortgage budget and ensure that you choose a mortgage to suit your budget and needs. If you have not chosen a financial institution it may be beneficial to enlist the expertise of a mortgage broker. Lenders have a range of products designed to cater for the requirement of different types of borrowers. It is important to comparison shop and understand the loan terms and associated benefits and risks prior to choosing a product. There are a number of home loan options available in the market.
No deposit home loans are a great choice for the first home buyer, investor or if you are purchasing your second home. No deposit home loans come in a variety of forms and offer very competitive interest rates. Fixed rate home loans provide a certainty of repayments for a set period of time without the risk of interest rate rises impacting these home loan repayments. With a fixed rate mortgage the interest remains constant throughout the life of the loan. The interest rate on standard variable home loans is as the name suggest, variable. A variable rate mortgage has a variable interest that has the potential to increase or decrease as the property market dictates, as determined by the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Now as a pilot for GSL Aviation, her work involves taking people out on scenic flights and transfers to the Whitsunday Islands up to 10 times a day flying a Cessna 210 and a GA8 Airvan.
At the ripe old age of 14, Krysta had it all figured out what she wanted to do in life – become a pilot. “I went to boarding school in Toowoomba at the Glennie School and one day in grade nine I sent mum an email saying ‘Mum, I think I want to be a pilot’ and she said ‘That’s cool – do some research and find out how to make it happen!’
56 • www.coremag.com.au
So she got organised, started flying lessons at the Darling Downs Aero Club whilst still at school and was even allowed to swap sport to go out in the plane for more lessons! “I was lucky to go to such a flexible and supportive school. By August 2009 I had finished my commercial pilot licence at the Airline Academy of Australia in Brisbane and I also scored my first job on the same day!”
For still being quite young, Krysta has certainly packed heaps into her life. She’s lived and worked in Jabiru, Northern Territory, taking scenic flights over Kakadu National Park and charters into Arnhem land; in Kununurra, Western Australia taking scenic flights over the Kimberleys and Bungle Bungles; and in Marree, South Australia which Krysta says is the tiniest town in the middle of the desert with only a pub, roadhouse and about 80 people living there.
And that’s where GSL Aviation’s main office is located and they actually operate out of the iconic Marree Hotel. “The bulk of the work I did there was scenic flights over Lake Eyre which has been in flood for three years and is spectacular to see from the sky.” “Flying is so peaceful – I love it. Especially the challenge of the industry, being so maledominated. I like that nobody’s career path is the same, you can go in the direction of commercial airlines or the air force or anything, everyone does something different. And I don’t know what’s next for me but that excites me and I can’t wait to find out.”

The trend towards Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) workforces is giving miners even more freedom to choose where to live – and like most Aussies, many are heading to the coast to enjoy the sun, surf and sand. While we’re lucky to live in an area where there is no shortage of amazing beaches, there are few coastal regions that have been earmarked to explode in conjunction with the continuing mining and resources boom. One of Australia’s top property experts, Terry Ryder, recently pinpointed Bowen as a real estate hotspot, with a total of more than $30 billion to be invested in the
Bowen and Galilee Basins by a group of mining conglomerates. Apart from having the ocean and Barrier Reef at its doorstep, Bowen is also home to Abbot Point, which is on track to become one of the world’s largest coal ports, with thousands of new jobs in the pipeline to cater to its expansion. This is stirring investors and home buyers to snap up property before the boom, and it’s also prompting developers to offer attractive incentives and packages to capitalise on interest in the area.
“
Bowen is on a peninsula, with ocean on three sides. This gives eight beaches surrounding the town, namely Kings Beach, Queens Beach, Horseshoe Bay, Murrays Bay, Greys Bay, Rose Bay, and the Front Beach. There is also the clothingoptional Coral Bay.

You’ve got some pretty impressive ink on your arm there. Tell us about it. Yeah I love tattoos. I’ve A got a half sleeve from my shoulder to my elbow. The design features roses with “Live for the family I love” in a banner on the front of my arm, and the face of a girl wearing aviator sunnies on the underside. The girls face is my favourite. I’ve got a few other tattoos too – on my back I have “My family, my life” and on my ribs I have “Mum and dad”. I’m a real family girl!
Q
What’s something random not many people would know about you? I love to play Donkey Kong A on my Super Nintendo.

Yes, Apple have released another iPhone 4 before they have set out their iPhone 5. This time round, it keeps the same good looks we are used to but has a few extra features that will make a lot of consumers rush out to buy. New features such as SIRI – allowing you to simply talk to the phone for just about anything – setting reminders, sending texts, making calls, you name it. A new super fast Dual Core A5 processor making it even faster than the originals. A new 8MP camera with full 1080p recording, most said this wouldn’t be done in an iPhone unit, but we stand corrected. iCloud software which allows you to wirelessly push your media such as photos and videos to other wireless devices in your home, such as an iPad for a larger viewing screen. These items are very hot and available in very limited stock. So if you want one be prepared to be patient while this gets delivered to you as they are so hot in the United States, people are lining up down streets for these.
Codename Zambezi these processors are set to release late October. They are a very fast eight core unit with support for Turbo Core Performance boosting on the fly. These processors will set the new standard for excellence in a processor while keeping the normal AMD value price tag. Starting at the ~$400 area this will get all heads turning. If you’re looking for a nice easy, cheap upgrade this is the processor for you. Will fit into any existing AM3+ Socket Mainboard.

There are 2 sides to play on: Galactic Republic and The Sith Empire, with 4 classes on each side. SW:TOR will launch with 19 planets to discover and explore. Level up, gain skills and recruit your friends into this revolutionary story-based MMORPG. RELEASE DATE: 20.12.11

This app uses the inbuilt iPhone/ iPod Touch camera to create an image with an old school, toy camera feel. Choose from the included lenses and flashes or purchase the upgrades. You’ll have a great time snapping random shots. For those with little creativity, this little app does all the work for you.
Powered by the popular Dragon Naturally Speaking software, use the microphone to speak your texts, emails and facebook or twitter updates. Stop typing and start speaking. The only downside is the requirement for an active data connection, but being able to speak your message more than makes up for it.
A fixed item on iTunes Top 10, it is a seriously addictive game. It pits a bunch of birds out for vengeance against a group of smirking, egg stealing pigs with only a slingshot to aid you in your quest. With 288 levels to date, none of which cost extra for the upgrades, this game is truly a winner.
Don’t have time to make a trip to Vegas? This app allows you to play Texas Hold ‘Em on the go. Just like playing cards at a table it’s always gratifying to see your chips pile up and your winnings grow when you go all in. Beware though, as in game purchases may help with emptying your wallet in reality as well as on the table.

For most of us, mowing is a tedious chore that chews up valuable weekend beer-drinking time. But try mowing with a zero-turn mower and see how much fun you can have while doing a job to get the missus off your back! Unlike traditional tractor-style mowers, zero-turn mowers are easily maneuvered using two levers instead of a steering wheel. This allows the machine to turn on its own footprint and will cut your mowing time in half. You know what that means... more time to drink beer!

There’s nothing more manly than a man hanging out in his shed. Unless it’s in a shed he built himself with the help of his mates! If you’ve been wishing for a shed to fit all your tools and junk in (in particular one that will make your mates jealous), why not look into a kit shed and turn it into a do-it-yourself project to knock out one weekend. These days, there’s an extensive range of kit sheds available that have been designed with the handyman in mind. These shed
More than just tin and wood, sheds represent a sanctuary for men Australia wide. When the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) was formed in 2007, it gave men everywhere the chance to gather together in their local community to have a laugh, share woes and act as a central hub for information exchange. Since then AMSA has become the largest men’s support organisation with 45,000 members in 480 locations. There are two Men’s Sheds in Mackay: Iona West Men’s Shed at 7 Brooks Street, West Mackay (contact 4951 3869) and Beaconsfield Road Men’s Shed on Beaconsfield Road (contact 0447 758 642). Anger is a natural human emotion with many varying degrees. The more severe the anger the bigger the adrenalin rush and it’s this rush that can make people feel powerful and can be addictive. However anger does not give you power. It will not give you the love or respect you may be looking for, in fact it does the opposite. It drives people away and makes people fear you.
There are two type of anger. One is Aggressive Anger which means it is out of control and is distorted in its deliverance. It hurts everyone, is counter-productive, hostile, threatening, aggressive and full of hatred and loathing. It has no intention of resolution and is self destructive.
you the way you want it to. You have just as much choice about how you express your anger as anything else in life. You also have a choice about how much of yesterday’s anger you carry into the future and how much anger you are likely to experience tomorrow.
The other is Assertive Anger which is controlled and leads to solutions. It protects a person’s boundaries and is more assertive communication. It considers the wellbeing of others and does not have the deeper layered emotions tangled with it such as resentment, hostility and hatred.
Learning to manage your anger is empowering and will help to free you from the emotional turmoil that can easily spill over into other areas of your life including relationships, family, career, health and social life. If you are experiencing anger issues please call Mirella DeBoni at Whitsunday Professional Counselling to learn new ways of dealing with anger.
Most importantly you can choose how you respond when the world doesn’t treat
My wife gets upset because I watch porn. She says I’m cheating on her and I disagree. There are many levels of cheating. Some believe in emotional affairs where one person has a close friendship or frequent contact with another person outside the marriage. If your wife is feeling cheated on then it is going to affect your marriage. Porn can make women feel insecure and unattractive. Porn can be fun if it’s done together and doesn’t go against anyone’s values or morals. Talk to your wife and ask her if she’s willing to be involved.
I love doing up old cars and bikes but we are having a baby now and my wife says I have to give it up. What do I do?
You can choose to be angry or not You can choose the intensity of it You can choose how to deal with it You can choose to feel differently
When a baby comes along there are many sacrifices made from both parents. Your wife may be worried about finances now that your family is increasing. Work out a budget and look at what you can afford and what you can do without. Maybe you will need to reduce the amount of time or money you spend on your hobbies however it may not be necessary to give it up altogether.

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions you may be in need of a digestive repair program or detoxification program. Toxin exposure is seemingly unavoidable in our modern world. Every day we are exposed to toxins like heavy metals, pesticides, chemicals, food additives and pollutants, which are present in the air, water and food that we consume. Toxins do not only come from our external environment; toxins can also be generated internally by ‘unfriendly’ bacteria, yeasts, and parasites in our digestive systems. You can assist your body by drinking a minimum of 2 litres of water per day, include lots of vegetables and minimise fats and processed foods in your diet, exercise regularly
and avoid alcohol, recreational drugs and cigarettes. Also avoid chemicals and fumes at home and work. Various tests are available from Naturopaths to check liver, digestive health and to measure levels of heavy metals in the body. Mining industries and farming in our region increase our exposure to heavy metals and pesticides. Your body has numerous mechanisms to help eliminate all these toxins, but these detoxification pathways can become overwhelmed if you produce, consume or absorb more toxins than you can easily clear. Undergoing the wrong type of detox may actually leave you feeling sick and tired so consult with a Naturopath for the right advice.

WORKS AT: Corry Cycles. Perfect for me ‘cos they have the biggest range of scooters and accessories in Mackay. I only work there parttime, when I’m not overseas. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE LAST THREE MONTHS: Riding my scooter has taken me all over Australia and throughout the world. I’ve just got back from being in the States for three months where I was living in a house that was bought for me by Elyts, just outside of L.A. I was riding and filming tricks and stuff for a new DVD they’re releasing early next year.
I’m looking at moving to Sydney soon, and I want to go to Germany and through Europe next year. I love getting kids involved and building momentum behind the sport so I like taking classes and stuff. It’s great to see kids riding scooters more and more – the sport just keeps on getting bigger and bigger. I want to bring out my own signature range of scooter parts too.

You should take a serious look at the situation and start thinking about making a positive change to the health culture in your workplace, especially since we all know Australia is one of the fattest nations, with high rates of heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, depression, high cholesterol and cancer running rife, affecting us, our family and friends. There are plenty of health consultants out there that can come talk to you and your work mates about putting a Corporate Health and Wellness Program in place to make your lives easier and healthier! Brendan Norman, Area Manager of Bullivants did, and now his staff are reaping the benefits of better health. With the help of Hi-Level Healthy Consultancy (HLH), ‘Normo’ and the boys are going great guns by participating in bootcamp, boxing, stretching and fitness clasess. Here’s what Brendan has to say about the program….
So “Normo” what made you sign the dotted line and allow HLH to implement a Corporate Health and Wellness Program for your employees? We were looking for A “something different” and to complement staff retention, improve quality of life, give back to employees, boost morale and improve team unity.
Q
What do you hope to get out of the tailor-made health program? Focus on group specific A needs, improving health and wellness where we really need it.
Q
What is the most you ever bench pressed? A I have managed to bench press my little boy & girl together, about 30kgs at the time.

What do you think the latest healthy eating campaign “2 and 5” is talking about? Two packs of chips and five A cans of Coke... Seriously though, it’s about making sure we all remember to eat a minimum amount of fruit and vegetables each day, keeping us healthy with nutrients and helping to avoid the chips and Coke! I have started on the daily fruit intake, which I’m getting used to.
Q
How did you fare in your Risk Factor Screening (health screening process used to determine if the person has any risk factors that may contribute toward lifestyle related chronic diseases like heart disease and Type 2 diabetes)? Were you shocked
Q
or was the screening what you expected? I was a little surprised, but A it really gave me new focus on my health and some useful hints on how to improve. We at Bullivants are always searching for ways we can improve our business and customer service, so now we can apply the same mentality to our health and wellbeing! Have you set some personal, “Lighten Up to a Healthy Lifestyle” goals? Yep, 30mins a day walk, fruit A intake and avoiding alcohol during the week.

Located at the corner of Hoey Street and Maureen Avenue, the Sarina and District BMX Club has 35 male and female members, ranging in age from 6 to up to 20 years old. The beauty of BMX compared to other sports is that races are held all year, from January to December. And the Sarina track is one of the best around, with an upgrade in progress that’s set to take it to all new heights, converting from a track mainly geared for speed to making it much more technical. Their major event is the Sarina Classic held in August every year. For the past couple of years it has been largely sponsored by Callcore
and attracts 140 riders from North Queensland zone, which includes Moranbah, Proserpine, Walkertson and Mackay Pioneer clubs. BMX riding is great for kids who love to ride motorbikes, as a similar skill level is required to navigate a BMX bike around a track. BMX has also seen a steady increase in the number of male and female riders aged 30-40 years, who get tired of watching their kids tearing up the track and decide they want to get involved too! The Sarina and District BMX Club holds social ride nights every Friday so anyone can go along and watch from 7pm onwards.
