THE COAST OF ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES Awash with sparkling beaches, vibrant cities, a rugged hinterland and hundreds of annual sunshine hours, the East Coast is where Australia shines. Once you venture out of the capital cities and hit the highway for an epic road trip, lesser-known treasures arise in many of the smaller shires.

DID YOU KNOW? Located just north of Bundaberg, 1770 is the only town in the world which has a number for a name! Lieutenant James Cook made the first landfall by a European on what was to become the Discovery Coast, and the birthplace of Queensland, on May 24, 1770. From the town of 1770 discover Lady Musgrave Island, an island cay with an internal lagoon, unique to the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef parallels the Queensland Coast and is accessible from most destinations. At its heart is the Whitsundays, A string of tropical islands dotted along an idyllic stretch of paradise. The Whitsunday islands are world famous for the luxurious resorts which lay upon them, the azure water which surrounds them as well as the pure white silica sand of Whitehaven Beach and the iconic Heart Reef. The gateway to the Whitsunday Islands is Airlie Beach, a backpacking nirvana filled with palm-fringed beaches, waterfront parks and alfresco dining restaurants. It is the epitome of the chilled-out Australian beach lifestyle, a blend of fun in the sun followed by an entertaining night scene. South of the Whitsundays, venture to a place where nature comes naturally. The Mackay region is home to quiet beaches, lesser-known tropical islands and Queensland’s only blue river, the Pioneer. It is one of Australia’s best fishing locations with a selection of tidal creeks, inland dams, mangrove systems and deep-water reefs providing a plethora of fish to hook.

DID YOU KNOW? Queensland is home to five of Australia’s 11 World Natural Heritage areas. These include the Scenic Rim National Parks, Fraser Island, Riversleigh Fossil Fields, the Wet Tropics (including Daintree National Park), and one of the great natural Wonders of the World; the Great Barrier Reef. A fascinating place of exceptional beauty, Fraser Island is 120km in length. It contains more than 100 freshwater lakes all ringed by sand, and the surrounding rainforest is the only rainforest in the world which grows on highelevation sand dunes! Visit famous 75-mile beach, see migratory humpback whales during the winter months and view native dingoes on the beach.

DID YOU KNOW? There is an exotic fruit in the Daintree Rainforest known as the Chocolate Pudding Fruit. It is the only fruit on the planet which tastes like chocolate pudding, yet it is low in fat and contains more than four times the vitamin C of an orange; a chocoholics dream come true! You can sample the delicacy at a tropical fruit farm in Cape Tribulation. With so much to see and do, Australia’s East Coast is a land of possibility. It’s your time to shine!

10

DID YOU KNOW? Mackay is one of the best places in Queensland to see a platypus in the wild. Take a day trip to Eungella National Park and watch this unique duck-billed mammal splash among the water of Broken River. Continue the journey northward for a taste of the tropics in Townsville. The cosmopolitan city combines federation architecture with an array of top restaurants and boutique shopping. Soak in the coastal vibe with a stroll along The Strand or get close to nature and cuddle a koala at Billabong Sanctuary. Off the coast of Townsville, Magnetic Island is one of the few islands you can drive to. Take your vehicle on the car ferry and explore many of its 23 beautiful bays. Magnetic Island was named by Lieutenant James Cook in 1770, when the island appeared to affect the magnetic compass on his ship. For a small island, there is much to do on Magnetic Island. Soar above the island in the Red Baron; the only two-passenger, open cockpit biplane on floats, in the world. Ride bareback into the ocean on a horse trek or discover koalas in the wild with a bush walk to historic WWII forts. The exotic rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef and nestled inbetween these two World Heritage areas is the modern mecca of Cairns, Queensland’s most northern tropical city. Laze on a northern beach or explore the rustic artist village of Kuranda by taking a gondola ride above the lush rainforest canopy. One of the most fascinating areas to explore in Northern Queensland is the Daintree Rainforest. It is the oldest continuously surviving tropical rainforest in the world, thought to be more than 135 million years old.

DID YOU KNOW? Byron Bay is Australia’s most easterly point, the first place on the mainland to see the sun rise. A surf haven for wave riders, Byron Bay has earned its reputation as a world-class surf destination. But if you’ve never picked up a board before, never fear, Byron Bay still provides a veritable feast of attractions; from music festivals and art studios to markets, organic food, cultural tours and natural beauty. While it still retains an alternative vibe and laid-back atmosphere, Byron Bay is a destination for discerning travellers wishing to explore its stretches of pristine coastline, hinterland waterfalls and rainforest retreats. MUST DO: Once a hippie community hidden in the rainforest, Nimbin provides an insight into the alternative lifestyle that embodies the Byron shire today. The village is as intriguing as it is quirky, with a fascinating mural streetscape of indigenous, rainforest and psychedelic facades. Continue your journey north across the border into Queensland, where the beer is cold and the sun is hot.

RELAX WHERE TOP 8 THINGS TO DO IN PORT DOUGLAS RAINFOREST MEETS THE REEF Sunday Markets

Romantic retreats, adrenalin-filled adventures and unique gastronomy; Port Douglas and its surrounding World Heritage areas bring a plethora of bucket-list worthy experiences. Since its establishment in the late 1870s, Port Douglas has had many incarnations: gold-rush port, sugar-export hub, quiet fishing village. It still retains much of that classic charm and heritage today. The resort town filled with boutique experiences provides a laid-back environment for dining, shopping and tropical relaxation. Nestled between the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, it’s the perfect base for day-trip adventures to absorb the wonders of World Heritage rainforest and reef.

Located in Anzac Park, right on the waterfront overlooking the Coral Sea, the markets are a delightful mix of local art, craft, souvenirs and fresh produce. This is a great place to mingle with tourists and locals alike. The Sunday markets are an ingrained part of Port Douglas tradition. Shop for fresh fruit and vegetables, browse the craft stalls for unique gifts to take home, soak up the tropical vibes and listen to live musicians.

Farm and produce tours Enjoy a Personalised Farmer guided tour through a working cocoa and SmartCane Accredited sugarcane farm for the estate to plate experience. Visit a local tea plantation and take home some pure unblended rainforest tea. Try some unusual fruit on a tropical fruit tour or head inland to a tropical fruit winery.

Mossman Gorge Mossman Gorge is renowned for its clear river, peaceful swimming holes and lush rainforest. Go croc-spotting through the mangroves on the Daintree River for an up-close view of these incredible reptiles in their natural habitat. Enjoy traditional bush tucker or Daintree tea and scones before a stroll through the rainforest to see the large boulders strewn throughout the river. Enjoy a guided Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk, conducted by the local Indigenous people who provide an enchanting narrative of the rainforest and their special relationship with this unique tropical environment.

Snorkel and Sunset cruise Combine two amazing Great Barrier Reef experiences with a cruise which allows you to snorkel in the day, then enjoy a romantic sunset cruise in the evening. Your full day tour can include highlights such as visiting the Blue Lagoon at Low Isles, a stroll around the island and snorkel from the beach; before evening snacks with a sunset cruise back to Port Douglas.

Get wild with the wildlife At Wildlife Habitat, you can handfeed wallabies and kangaroos, cuddle koalas and stroke a small crocodile’s skin, as well as observe crocodile and cassowary feeding demonstrations. Down the road, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is the best place to see a large number of crocodiles as you take a boat cruise on a croc-infested lagoon.

Play a round, or two Port Douglas is a golfing utopia. Mirage Country Club is manicured and inviting, while Palmer Sea Reef is a tropical links course. Both Mirage and Sea Reef offer occasional croc-watching opportunities while playing; but note the warning on the card: do not approach the reptiles.

Laze at the beach Postcard-perfect and easily accessible, Four Mile Beach curves from the township of Port Douglas. Four Mile Beach has long been considered the epitome of Port Douglas; its azure waters and white sand plastered over Instagram. The vision of paradise is what you can expect to see when you arrive in this coastal village, with the beach only a 5-minute walk away from the main Port Douglas district. It’s perfect for a lazy day on the warm sand with a book in hand as you watch the boats sail by.

Surf the jungle

16

A living museum where two UNESCO World Heritage Listed areas collide, Jungle Surfing is the best way to explore the rainforest canopy from every angle. Marvel at nature’s amphitheatre with a guided zipline tour through the Daintree Rainforest. It’s educational and exhilarating, the best way to see the rainforest from above.

STOP AND SOAK UP THE SERENITY OF ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S MOST TRANQUIL TROPICAL DESTINATIONS. As the halfway point in-between Townsville and Cairns, take the opportunity to meander barefoot along one of Mission Beach’s pristine shorelines, where the rainforest fringes the glimmering turquoise tide. Sound’s magical? This is only the start of why Mission Beach should be on your travel itinerary. Mission Beach is one of the few places along the Queensland coast where two World Heritage areas meet, the Wet Tropics rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. This stretch of paradise is also one of the closest mainland destinations to the Great Barrier Reef, only 38km away. Visitors wanting a unique diving or snorkelling experience are in luck, as it only takes an hour to reach some of the reef’s most beautiful and unique coral, meaning more time in the water viewing nature at its finest and less time on a boat. 14km of tropical sandy beaches line the four rustic villages which collectively make up Mission Beach. The villages of Bingil Bay, Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach each add their own unique vibe to this relaxed community. The village of Mission Beach is a great place to start your holiday. Stroll the eclectic array of gift stores and art galleries, then familiarize yourself with some of the town’s popular eateries, from cafes to bars and gourmet restaurants. Don’t let the relaxed ambience and casual way of life fool you, hiding among the villages are some of the best seafood delicacies and resort luxuries on the Queensland coast. Alongside breathtaking scenery, Mission Beach is home to unique and endangered wildlife. The Southern Cassowary is one of the most extraordinary looking large birds in the world, and the rainforest surrounding Mission Beach is where the majority of them reside. If you’re lucky, you may see one walking through bush or even through the grounds of your accommodation, though weighing on average 60kg, it’s advisable never to approach them.

You may find that you’re rather content laying beachside with a cool beverage in hand, but if you’re looking to fill your days with discovery and adventure, you’ve come to the right place! Express trips to the Great Barrier Reef can have you from coast to coral in only 45 minutes! In fact a plethora of water-based charters and activities are available. Deep sea charters can take you to the outer reef for a day of fishing or a day of diving. Experience white water rafting in the Tully Gorge, or paddle your way from beach to beach on a kayak.

Explore the walking tracks and unique tropical rainforest environment of Dunk Island by jumping aboard a water taxi. For friendly local knowledge head to the Mission Beach Tourist Information Centre. They can give you the best tips on what to see, where to eat and where best to stay during your visit. Make sure to say you read about them first in Tripping Magazine!

If you are keen to get in the water there are two local companies that cab take you there. EXPERIENCE

THE BEST OF THE

CENTRAL SECTION OF THE GREAT BARRIER REEF WITH ADRENALIN SNORKEL & DIVE

A

drenalin Snorkel & Dive have a new boat and it is bigger and better than before. Endorphin is the latest addition to Adrenalin’s fleet, coming in at 21 metres and in survey for 38 passengers plus 5 crew.

Custom-fitted for scuba diving and snorkelling day trips to the Great Barrier Reef, Endorphin comes equipped with fully shaded areas, sun deck, toilet and shower, along with a large swim platform and your easy access in and out of the water. Owner and operator Paul Crocombe said that a larger boat will provide a more comfortable trip out to the reef and reduce the number of trips cancelled due to weather. “Our current vessel, Adrenalin, can travel up to 15 to 20 knots,” Paul explains. “A larger boat will provide a more comfortable trip so we can comfortably operate in 20 knots.” Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive is the most experienced marine tour operators in Townsville with trips to the Great Barrier Reef and Yongala wreck. Our business model has evolved over the years to adapt to a changing market. With three boats the business can operate three trips at once – one for reef day-trippers, another for Yongala wreck dives, and a third for multi-day diving tours. Guests can visit the central section of the Great Barrier Reef on day trips with Endorphin. The central section is recognised as having some the best reefs in the entire Great Barrier Reef. As one of only a handful of tour operators in Townsville who visit the reef, guests can expect to snorkel and dive in relative solitude. Endorphin will most likely be the only vessel carrying tourists at the reef on any given trip! The best way to experience the Great Barrier Reef is to see it underwater. But if you don’t have your scuba diving certification fret not; you can still try scuba diving with the Discover Scuba Diving package. No previous experience is needed to Discover Scuba Dive. Your instructor will give you a full briefing and explanation of what to expect and the equipment you will be using and demonstrate a few basic skills. Once you are ready you will suit up; and after practicing a few basic skills dive into the Great Barrier Reef waters and be amazed. Your instructor will act as your underwater tour guide as they take you to explore the underwater sights. If you already have your scuba diving certification then you can go for the certified diver package. Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive can provide full scuba equipment so you can enjoy two dives on your on the Great Barrier Reef. Dive with your friend, get paired up with another scuba diver on board, or join a guided dive and take the hassle out of planning your dive. If scuba diving is not your thing worry not! Snorkelling is an excellent way to see the Great Barrier Reef as you get to float over the top of coral gardens and enjoy the kaleidoscope of colours as they glisten in the sunlight. All your snorkelling equipment is provided including your suit, mask, snorkel and fins! For non swimmers additional buoyancy aids are available and assistance from our professional crew is on offer. The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest reef system comprised of over 2,900 individual reefs stretching for over 2,600 kilometres with an area of approximately the size of Europe. This is your best chance to visit the central section of the Great Barrier Reef which has some of the most well-preserved sites for snorkelling and scuba diving.

AQUARIUM ANIMAL PROFILE: Species: Olive Sea Snake (Aipysurus laevis) Background: Two baby Olive Sea Snakes were born at Reef HQ Aquarium on May 10, 2018. Rarely bred in captivity, this was very exciting and the second year in a row that Reef HQ Aquarium had success. Olive sea snakes give birth to live young, with a litter size of 2 to 5 babies. When born they measure 65cm and weigh 100 grams. In the wild, juvenile olive sea snakes are rarely found meaning there is little data on growth rates. Reef HQ Aquarium is using the opportunity to capture this and the behavioural traits of this elusive species. Species information: Olive sea snakes are one of fourteen sea snake species that breed in the Great Barrier Reef Region. This reef dwelling snake has a definite home range, appearing not to move across unsuitable habitats. Sea snakes have lungs and must surface to breathe. To prevent sea water entering the lung while diving, they have nostril valves that close. Although highly venomous and curious of divers, they are extremely reluctant to bite and very peaceful in nature. Unfortunately, populations of sea snakes are impacted by commercial fishing with a high mortality from trawl by-catch.

The world’s most powerful bite The largest of all living reptiles, the saltwater crocodile, is as captivating as it is fearsome. The sound which echoes from its powerful jaws as they snap shut is both indescribable and unforgettable. As most people are unlikely to see a crocodile in its natural habitat, Billabong Sanctuary is one of the best places on Earth to see this humongous reptile up close. Feeding time is one of the sanctuary’s most anticipated attractions. “You could hear a pin drop as the crocodile’s lunch dangles above the water. The excited crowd is fixated on the water, waiting for the all mighty reptile to launch itself vertical from the water. Using their powerful tails these monster crocodiles lunge out of the water almost to their back legs as they take food offered by the rangers. The audience gasps as its jaws strike at the food, in a display of power and raw instinct.” If this experience isn’t on your North Queensland bucketlist, it should be. DID YOU KNOW? CROCODILES HAVE THE STRONGEST BITE FORCE OF ANY ANIMAL IN THE WORLD, EVEN BEATING A GREAT WHITE SHARK. They can easily crush you with their jaws. A human can apply 100 pounds of pressure per square inch with their jaw where as a crocodile can apply up to 5,000 pounds of pressure. Despite this, they have very little ‘opening strength,’ meaning you can quite easily keep a crocodile’s mouth shut with rubber bands. are living dinosaurs and the largest reptiles in the world. They first appeared in the Mesozoic Era 240 million years ago and can live up to 80 years of age. Crocodiles are fast swimmers but cannot swallow prey underwater. They can swim up to 32 kilometres per hour and hold their breath for up to an hour. DID YOU KNOW? THE REFERENCE TO ‘SALTWATER’ IS MISLEADING. WHILE THEY CAN BE FOUND IN SALTWATER, THESE CROCODILES ARE JUST AS OFTEN FOUND IN FRESHWATER; IN RIVERS, SWAMPS AND BILLABONGS, SOMETIMES HUNDREDS OF KILOMETRES INLAND. Billabong Sanctuary has crocodile feeding displays twice daily at 1pm and 3:15pm. The Sanctuary has several large estuarine crocodiles and different crocodiles are fed throughout the week. More than just a display of the crocodile’s raw power and instincts, the feeding shows are also informative, as rangers dispel many myths and explain how to stay safe while you are visiting their aquatic environment. Breeding time is from November through to March during the summer, where males are more active and on the move to seek a mate. A crocodile attack can be deadly and unfortunately, on average, there is a death in Australia each year due to an attack. However, put into perspective, the same number of people in Australia die each year from a bee sting. So while these reptiles most certainly should be respected, they shouldn’t be feared. They play an important part in Australia’s natural wetland ecosystem and are magnificent creatures. Discover more by attending a croc feeding show for yourself. Cuddle a koala, pet a kangaroo and hold a wombat. Get up close and personal with your favourite native Australian animal, at Billabong Sanctuary.

DID YOU KNOW?

Crocodiles have the strongest bite force of any animal in the world, even beating a great white shark.

Billabong Sanctuary

Waltzing Matilda is about as Australian as it gets and, to experience an array of wildlife by an Aussie Billabong, take a walk on the wild side at Townsville’s Billabong Sanctuary. Australia’s native animals are as weird and wonderful as they come. From the cuddly koala to the bounding kangaroo, Billabong Sanctuary lets you get up close and personal to your favourite furry, feathered and scaly friends. Billabong Sanctuary is based around three habitats; eucalypt forest, rainforest and wetlands, with a large billabong at its heart. Wetland birds come and go from the sanctuary as they please and, as you take a stroll around the lapping edge of the billabong, keep an eye out for the friendly turtles who greet you at the water’s edge. Whether you visit morning or afternoon, there are always guided shows and interactive opportunities to touch or feed many of the sanctuary’s inhabitants. If you leave Airlie Beach after breakfast and head north to Townsville, you will not miss any of the experiences as there is a 1 p.m. as well as a 3:15 p.m. crocodile feeding and also the opportunity to hold a koala both morning at 11:15 a.m. and afternoon at 4 p.m. Billabong Sanctuary is Australia’s best interactive wildlife experience! At wildlife encounters, you can pat a dingo, hand-feed a cassowary, hold a koala or hug a wombat. Get a souvenir photo for a small fee, or use your own camera. There is no charge for wrapping a python around your neck, holding a lizard or holding a small crocodile. At the all-inclusive wildlife talks, you will learn about the ecology, the habits and unusual characteristics of Australia’s unique animals. Each ranger is passionate about the welfare of the animals at the sanctuary. Their care and devotion is evident in the presentations they give. A new semi-arid desert habitat featuring reptiles and birds of the desert with the centre piece of the Greater bilby is the latest exhibit at the Santuary opened in August 2016. This conservation based attraction is proving a huge success. One of the most misunderstood native animals in Australia is the dingo. See a different side to this magnificent creature and then pose for a photo and pat the friendly dingoes. Billabong Sanctuary has 2 star attractions when it comes to crocodiles. Bully who is the larger of the two weighing in at 750 kgs and measuring 4.5m in length. Bully arrived at Billabong Sanctuary in 2013 trapped at Halifax, north of Innisfail and due to his weight, his crate had to be transferred into his enclosure by crane. Then there is Jupiter, who is a whopping 500 kgs and 4.3m in length. Jupiter was caught off Townsville’s Strand beach in early February 2016. Estimated at 60 years of age, Jupiter has battle scars down the side of his body from confrontations with other large crocodiles. Make a day of it at Billabong Sanctuary by enjoying a coffee and meal from Blinky Bill Café or bring your own supplies to enjoy a barbecue beside the tropically landscaped pool.

Magnetic Island is a small tropical island a short twenty-minute ferry ride off the coast of Townsville. It is only 8km long and boasts a natural wonderland populated by rainforests and secluded bays all linked by wonderfully winding scenic roads. The island is 70% national park with four-wheel drive tracks and walking trails, perfect for people who love the outdoors and nature at its most un-touched. It is a stunning natural paradise with a relaxing tropical lifestyle. Just over 2000 people live on the island all year round and they are welcoming to everyone, always happy to stop and have a chat

HISTORY Magnetic Island is called Yunbenun by the Wulgurukaba people who are the Traditional Aboriginal Owners of the island and lived there for thousands of years. In 1770, Captain James Cook sailed passed on his ship, the Endeavour, and, while he was there, his compass was affected by a strange magnetic force on the island which is why it is now called ‘Magnetic Island’.

GEOGRAPHY Magnetic Island was part of the Australian mainland until 7500 years ago when sea levels rose cutting it off. The island is composed mostly of granite, the result of a volcanic force that pushed molten rock up to the earth’s surface 275 million years ago. Much of the volcanic rock has eroded away, however, the underlying granite has decomposed into fault lines and created the distinctive granite boulders and rocky headlands we see today. The island is famed for its untouched natural beauty. There are 23 bays and beaches, some of which are only accessible by foot or boat. Mount Cook is the highest point on the island and it is fringed by magnificently tangled rainforest jungle, vine forests, eucalypt woods and emerald green hoop pine trees.

GETTING AROUND

26

The scenic roads are great fun to drive on and the best way to explore the island. The Topless Car Company rent bright pink topless cars which are a fun and unique way of exploring the island, with the wind rushing through your hair and the sun on your face, this is island living at its finest!

Stay where IS CUDDLING A KOALA HIGH UP ON YOUR AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURE BUCKET-LIST? It’s little wonder, these cute and iconic marsupials are one of the most popular animals on the planet, but completely unique to Australia. It often surprises visitors to learn, that there are only three states in Australia where you are allowed to cuddle a koala; Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. So make the most of your Queensland adventure by placing Bungalow Bay Koala Village on Magnetic Island at the top of your must-do destination list. Renowned for popular animal experiences, Bungalow Bay Koala Village is the ONLY resort in Australia that has its own onsite wildlife park. Not only can you cuddle a koala, but the wildlife park provides ample opportunity for many hands-on wildlife experiences; including holding a big python (snake), holding a baby saltwater crocodile, holding big lizards, turtles and even feeding large parrots from your own lips. Koality Fact: Koalas have two thumbs on each hand for gripping when holding food and climbing – and for holding on tight when you are getting a koala cuddle! Bungalow Bay is home to North Queensland’s newest baby koala, Cody. A baby koala is called a ‘Joey’ and already Cody the Joey has been interacting with other resident koalas and visitors at the boutique koala park. Cody was born in Townsville at Billabong Sanctuary and was recently relocated to Bungalow Bay to boost the resident koala population.

28

Koality fact: Despite commonly being called ‘koala bears’ they aren’t a bear! Koalas are a marsupial. 200 years ago, European settlers had never seen a marsupial and did not know about pouched animals, like the kangaroo. The bear was the closet mammal the koala looked like.

Aquascene

Magnetic Island WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS TOUR? The beauty of Magnetic Island is best seen by boat. Taking in the scenery and majesty of this unique environment is truly magical by sea, especially on a vessel like Aquascene where you can explore the remote bays and intriguing rocky outcrops inaccessible by land.

WHAT WAS THE TOUR LIKE? The tour was a personal and extremely memorable experience full of education insight and engaging activities mixed with serenity in nature. Our tour guide and Aquascene owner, Adam, was friendly and knowledgeable having lived on the island for over 35 years. He knows every inch of the island and even got married in one of the remote bays! As a family owned business, the whole experience felt very personal and you could see the love and passion put into making the tour memorable for each guest. The boat itself is comfortable, spacious and stable so we felt at ease at all times. With large open viewing from seated areas, everyone could sit contentedly and enjoy the stunning scenery glide by.

WHERE DID YOU GO? We explored Magnetic Island’s unique ecosystem, which is made up of rocky outcrops, majestic headlands, remote bays and native bush. Most of this natural environment is only visible from the ocean so we felt very privileged to see what many other tourists would not.

30

We cruised around the island’s calm seas, staying close to land and admiring the stunning scenery. As the boat has a shallow draft

platform, we were able to pull-up closer to look at points of interest as we cruised by. Also, when it came to getting in the water, we were able get close to the beaches and jump into the shallows. Our first stop was for a snorkel. Some of the guests had never tried snorkeling before and Adam was happy to teach them offering buoyancy devices to keep beginners safe and at ease in the water. The fringing coral reefs were teaming with small colourful fish and the water was crystal clear so we could see several metres ahead. Back on-board, we enjoyed a morning tea of fresh fruit, cakes, tea and coffee while we cruised to our next destination where we could walk along a remote beach. Untouched and unseen from land, it was our own private bay with no other tourists able to reach this area. To finish off the tour Adam took us to the best fishing spot on the island. Here, he helped us bait the hooks and throw a line in the water. He was good to his word as everyone on-board caught a fish! What was your favourite part of the tour? Sitting back in comfort and watching the island glide serenely by. The fresh ocean breeze on our face and in our hair, the sun shining and our tour guide pointing out different outcrops and bays. I also liked that it was a family run tour, it was personal and intimate, and we all left feeling like we’d had an amazing experience. Would you recommend this tour to a friend? Absolutely! The tour offers a unique way to experience Magnetic Island and is extremely well-run with lots of different activities to try but also time to relax. This tour is perfect for any age-group, kids of all ages would love it!

OMMODATION

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR TOUR?

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT A HORSESHOE BAY RANCH EXPERIENCE?

Swimming with the horses of course! Also the numerous wildlife encounters. We see koalas, wallabies, sea eagles and turtles on most of our tours and even whales in the winter months. My favourite, though, would have to be riding through the swarms of brilliantly coloured Blue Tiger butterflies which only come out at certain times of the year.

When we get to the beach, the saddles come off and we jump back on bareback for a swim with our horse. This is what makes Horseshoe Bay Ranch unique and different to any other beach ride. You don’t have to have prior experience to do this part of the tour and children as young as 6 can experience this.

WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT ON THIS TOUR?

WHAT WILL PEOPLE LEARN ON YOUR TOUR?

Meet

owner and guide at Horseshoe Ranch, Magnetic Island! “Every day we take people out on amazing horseback riding adventures, along the stunning Horseshoe Bay beach and then bareback into the ocean for a truly breathtaking, once in a lifetime experience.”

If you have never ridden a horse before, you will learn the basics of controlling your horse. You will have full control of your own horse for the whole tour and our experienced guides are on hand to answer any questions you may have. We give everyone the opportunity to go trotting and most people will master
the rising trot by the end of the tour. For the more experienced riders, going
for a canter is sometimes also an option. Of course, for the more laid back riders, you are more than welcome to just take a leisurely stroll all the way to the beach and back.

Two full hours of horse riding bliss. We first trek through tranquil bushland spotting numerous wallabies, bird life, koalas and our famous blue tiger butterflies as we wind our way down to the far end of Horseshoe Bay. As you get closer to the beach, we advise guests to keep an eye out for our sea eagles which nest along our trails at certain times of the year. The first steps onto the beach alone are magical, but riding into the water on the back of your horse is by far the most breathtaking experience of the whole tour. Saddles come off, as does your helmet, shoes, and even clothes! (Be sure to wear your swimmers underneath!!) Once out of the water we get dressed and back on for a short trek back to the ranch.

WELCOME TO THE WHITSUNDAYS! A STUNNING PART OF THE NORTH QUEENSLAND COAST WITH 74 BEAUTIFUL ISLANDS TO EXPLORE. SHELTERED BY THE GREAT BARRIER REEF THERE ARE NO CRASHING WAVES, JUST CALM EASY TO NAVIGATE WATERWAYS, PERFECT FOR SAILING.

thing’s to do WHITSUNDAYS MUST DO SET FOOT ON WHITEHAVEN BEACH Recently voted the second best beach in the world Whitehaven Beach is located on Whitsunday Island which is the largest of the 74 islands in the Whitsunday group. Whitehaven Beach stretches over seven kilometres and boasts brilliant white silica sand that is among the purest in the world. At the northern end of Whitehaven Beach is Hill Inlet, a stunning inlet where the tide shifts the sand and water to create a beautiful fusion of colours and swirling sand formations known as the ‘swirling sands’. Take a short bushwalk to Hill Inlet lookout and see this spectacular sight from above.

MUST SEE CEDAR CREEK FALLS AND CONWAY BEACH Cedar Creek Falls and Conway Beach are located on the southern Whitsunday Coast, approximately 30 minutes drive from Airlie Beach and Proserpine. The falls are set in a spectacular natural rock amphitheatre and its water’s cascade after a recent rainfall. The area is abundant with flora and fauna including majestic white cedar trees, Alexandra Palms, wild orchids, colourful butterflies and many beautiful birds. The waterhole is an easy walk from the parking area and there are also bush walks up and around the falls for the more energetic. Conway Beach is a popular spot for fishing and windpowered sports such as kite surfing and land kiting. There is no swimming along the two kilometre sandy stretch of Conway Beach which is situated at the mouth of the Proserpine River, but it is an excellent location for fishing and crabbing.

MUST TRY CATCH A 1M PLUS BARA AT LAKE PROSERPINE Just 30 minutes from Proserpine is Peter Faust Dam, also known as Lake Proserpine. It is an ideal spot for watersports and freshwater fishing. Peter Faust Dam is renowned as home to more 1m plus barramundi than any other impoundment in Australia. A combination of tropical climate with long summers and mild winters, the dam has no closed barra season so can be fished all year round and is annually restocked with over 20,000 barramundi fingerlings.

DID YOU KNOW? THE WHITSUNDAYS MAY HAVE BEEN MISTAKENLY NAMED! The Whitsunday Passage was christened by Captain Cook who believed the date to be the calendar day of Whit Sunday, the 3rd of June 1770. Interestingly, he was off by one day, and was sailing instead on June the 4th, a Monday. His small error changed the course of naming history!

Proserpine plays host to fishing competitions, with campground accommodation at Camp Kanga closeby making it an ideal sports fishing destination. Bring your crab pots too because redclaw and freshwater crayfish also inhabit the lake. There is a concrete boat ramp to take craft up to 8m situated next to the BBQ areas.

DID YOU KNOW?

The movie ‘Australia’ starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman was filmed in Bowen.

HISTORICAL As North Queensland’s oldest town, Bowen is brimming with history, especially at the Bowen Historical Museum on Gordon Street. Discover the early geological surrounds of the district, followed by early indigenous inhabitance to the early European settlers. The Gothenburg is one of the most famous shipwrecks on the Queensland Coast with the loss of more than 100 lives, with relics from the wreck on display in the museum. The Bowen Aerodrome is home to a Catalina museum, commemorating the involvement Bowen had as a base for Catalina flying boats during World War II. The museum contains five dioramas all built on 1/72 scale. Even a gentle meander through the streets will unearth interesting locations. Known as the mural capital of Australia, Bowen has more than 25 intricately painted mural sites. They depict a diverse history from the town’s early settlement, involvement with World War II to present day industry. You can find a list of mural sites by visiting the Bowen Information Centre at the Big Mango.

things to do BOWEN

MUST DO HIT THE BEACH With eight award-winning beaches to explore, Bowen offers beachgoers a veritable paradise to explore. With soft-as-silk white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water, Horseshoe Bay is the jewel in the Bowen crown. Perfect for swimming, it also features a nearby coral reef, ideal for snorkeling. Queen’s Beach is Bowen’s longest with 5km of white sand to stroll. Free public barbecues line the beachfront and are set among tropical landscaping, offering an idyllic location to experience a beachfront barbecue at sunset. Rose Bay is an award-winning slice of paradise, with magnificent views across the Whitsunday Islands of Gloucester and Middle. Bowen’s Front Beach has been transformed into a colourful recreation area perfect for families to relax and have fun. Its foreshore precinct includes a water park, children’s playground, outdoor amphitheatre, grassy picnic areas and barbecues, a skate park and Catalina Interpretive Centre.

MUST SEE THE VIEW FROM FLAGSTAFF HILL LOOKOUT Spectacular panoramic views will astound and delight travellers who visit Bowen's lookout, Flagstaff Hill. With sweeping views from Rose Bay, along the expanse of Kings Beach, across to the lighthouse on North Head Island, Stony Island, Gloucester Island back to the Marina, and across town, you will feel like you're on top of the world! Binoculars and a lookout tower ensure the best view in the Whitsundays.

MUST TRY FRESH LOCAL SEAFOOD STRAIGHT OFF THE TRAWLER For the freshest seafood in this part of Queensland, make sure you call into Arabon Seafoods. They supply seafood that is fresh, in season and caught locally just, off the coast of Bowen. Call in for fresh Coral Trout, Spanish Mackeral, Atlantic Salmon, Barramundi, Scallops, Calamari, Tiger Prawns, Bugs, Mussels and Oysters. They also sell ice, and boat equipment as well fishing gear such as ropes and bait plus chandlery and fuel. For the freshest cooked seafood in Bowen head to Birds Fish Bar which is also located at the marina. There is a small café out the back overlooking the fishing trawlers.

AY TERMINAL

The beautiful holiday town of Airlie Beach is one of few east coast towns that has a north facing aspect. This means that the town is protected from the prevailing south east Trade Winds creating a consistently balmy, tropical environment. In the early 1990’s Airlie Beach became a popular backpacker haven, which it still is to this day. In more recent years, however, the town’s reputation has diversified. Assisted by the $22 million dollar mainstreet upgrade the town is now attracting a more upmarket clientele. These days there is an eclectic mix of transient tourists and holidaymakers; backpackers, families, romantic couples and groups of friends all visit Airlie Beach for its laid-back charming life-style and sparkling turquoise waters.

Providence

WHAT TYPE OF VESSEL IS PROVIDENCE?

WHAT MEALS CAN WE EXPECT?

Providence V is a classic schooner, a baby tallship, a Gloucester schooner modelled on the Grand Banks fishing boats and built out of North Queensland timber.

Guests enjoy home-baked morning tea followed by a picnic lunch on board and a refreshing afternoon fruit platter.

TELL US ABOUT THE TOUR: Providence V makes daily sails to Whitehaven Beach at 7.30 am returning 4.30 pm and offers daily sunset sails from 5 pm returning 7 pm with a complementary glass of bubbles and nibbles to slip into the sunset in style. We have won three Trip Advisor certificates of excellence in a row in our three years in Airlie Beach. WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE ON OFFER? Snorkel the majestic coral fringing reefs, bushwalk up to Hill Inlet and then visit the swirling sands of Whitehaven Beach.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING?
Water bottles to take our chilled water to the beach. We don’t sell them because of the environmental pollution. Also hats, sunscreen and towels. WHAT ARE THE TOUR HIGHLIGHTS? Providence V is a traditional tallship so guests can experience travelling in the days of yesteryear. You can get involved in hoisting the sails and learn how to belay a cleat or you are welcome to just chill on deck. Sail to Whitehaven and take time to take in the sights. There is whale watching in season and we often spot dolphins and green turtles all year round.

MiLady WHAT TYPE OF VESSEL IS MILADY?

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE ON OFFER?

MiLady is a 54DS Jeanneau, a favourite cruising yacht in the Mediterranean, full of creature comforts; a large spacious saloon and bar; comfortable tastefully furnished cockpit and three cabins all with en suites. She is fully air-conditioned and even has a television on board.

Guests can snorkel and paddle board from the boat plus take a bushwalk to Hill Inlet and Whitehaven Beach after the crowds have gone.

She has a dark-blue hull and white couches with beautiful natural wood in her saloon. The cabins are spacious and all have en suites. TELL US ABOUT THE TOUR: MiLady offers a chance to see the Whitsundays at leisure, enjoying quiet anchorages away from the crowds; fresh barramundi on the BBQ and diving off the back deck into the glorious underwater world below. MiLady offers 1, 2 and 3 night charters and daily charters to see the best of the Whitsundays with only six guests on board for the overnight charters and 12 for the day charters. There is plenty of room in the cockpit and deck for relaxing and a welcome glass of bubbles and sunset nibbles on arrival.

WHAT MEALS CAN WE EXPECT? Sunset nibbles and complimentary glass of bubbles on board followed by a sumptuous dinner and continental breakfast. Our food is chosen to showcase Australian cuisine. Lunch includes local tiger prawns and our steak is from Tasmania. We cater for dietary needs. WHAT ARE THE TOUR HIGHLIGHTS? There are few boats in the Whitsundays as elegant as this yacht and with such small passenger numbers. One of our first guests said sailing on MiLady was the best thing he’d ever done in his life. You deserve this. Take some time out and be taken care of the moment you step on board. We offer individual itineraries so no trip is ever the same. Our crew are handpicked for how well they look after you.

thing’s to do BYRON BAY

MUST DO TAKE A SURF LESSON AT AN ICONIC BYRON BAY BEACH Byron Bay is famous around the world for its sensational surfing breaks and the surfing culture in Byron emanates from every high-street shop and street-side cafe. Every local you pass will probably be hitting the surf in their lunch break so, to get the true taste of Byron make sure you take a surf lesson. There are many local companies to choose from and you can learn from some of the best local surfers in the area. The best surf beaches for beginners in the area are The Pass, inside Cape Byron Headland and Clarkes Beach. If surfing sounds too challenging you can still have fun in the surf at an easier pace by hiring a body board for the afternoon.

MUST SEE BYRON BAY LIGHT HOUSE The light that shines by night over Cape Byron Marine Park emanates from a tower as famous as the town of Byron Bay itself. Built at the turn of the 19th century to protect ships passing along the coast, Cape Byron Lighthouse stands resolute on the most easterly point of the Australian mainland. Operated by resident keepers until 1989, its now automated light is clearly visible from Byron Bay township. Visitors can either drive to the top of the hill and park next to the lighthouse, or for the more energetic, the hillside walk above the cliffs is incredibly beautiful and the assent takes about 30 minutes. You’ll enjoy some of the best views of the ocean and hinterland on the entire coast, including regular sightings of turtles, dolphins and humpback whales. There is a café at the top selling drinks, ice creams, cakes, coffee and much more.

MUST TRY FRESH PRODUCE FROM A FARMER’S MARKET

DID YOU KNOW?

BYRON BAY’S ORIGINAL INHABITANTS ARE THE ARAKWAL PEOPLE, WHO ARE PART OF THE BUNDJALUNG GROUP. THE ARAKWAL CALLED BYRON BAY MEETING PLACE OR ‘CAVVANBAH’.

The Byron Shire is all about organic produce and healthy eating. People come from all over Australia, if not the world, to try the unique cuisine and the area is a renowned foodies haven. The culture here is also centred on sustainable living and reducing our carbon footprint. As a result, there is no better way to enjoy the local culture than by visiting a Farmer’s Market and buying fresh, locally grown produce. There are several held in different locations throughout the Shire every week, during the morning. Café

Authentic Byron Bay Café Experience

A trip to the Byron Shire would not be complete without discovering a hidden gem, a secret café off the beaten track that only the locals know about. Let us introduce you to Coolamon co. Café, a true taste of authentic Byron Shire café culture. Owned by local entrepreneurs Lily and Sam who quit their day jobs to start their dream café and raise their young family, Coolamon co is a reflection of Lily’s incredible culinary talent and Sam’s front of house charm. With an emphasis on beautiful fresh produce and set in the grounds of a lush green nursery, this café experience is one you will remember forever. WHAT’S ON THE MENU? Over 90% of the menu items are made from scratch, and our cakes/treats are always made in house. Almost all of our menu is also able to be made vegan, gluten free etc. it is important to us that anybody can come and enjoy our café and not feel as though they are limited in choice. Our specials also heavily rotate around what is in season and what catches my eye at the local farmers’ markets! A popular menu item is the miso mushrooms. When creating this dish one of the main reasons we decided to put it on the menu was because of the health benefits as well as the taste. The mushrooms are served on a crisp rice patty, with edemame salad and poached eggs (or avocado for vegans).

48

Another favourite is the corn fritters, which are being so highly received! Gluten free and vegan,

the fritters are served with a fresh tomato salsa, haloumi and poached eggs (Or avocado + sourdough for veg). Our smashed avocado is also amazing, served on sourdough with feta, dukkah, sumac and pomegranate molasses, it really is unique and must be tried! AND THE COFFEE? We have been fortunate enough to be able to serve Allpress coffee. Allpress is air roasted meaning that during the roasting process any burnt pieces are thrown out of the chamber leaving you with a perfectly smooth and gorgeous caramel coffee flavour. We use the A.R.T. blend and it really is the best coffee! HOW DO WE GET THERE? If you take the Yelgun exit off the Bruce Highway, 15 minutes north of Byron, we are less than 5 minutes from the exit. After turning into the ocean shores side of Coolamon Scenic Drive, we are 100m on the left. WHO WOULD LOVE COOLAMON CO.? Coolamon co. café can be enjoyed by everyone! Whether you are a group of friends looking for something different or a couple wanting to share a romantic meal, we cater for every style and taste! With a fenced area that is perfect for kids and free babychino’s it’s ideal for parents to come and enjoy themselves. So, take time away from the hustle and bustle of nearby towns, and enjoy a cup of coffee or a beautiful meal at Coolamon co.

the rest and relaxation you crave while on vacation. A shared plunge pool with sun loungers is available to guests at Bask & Stow as a quiet place to cool off, relax and reflect. Given there are only four suites at this boutique accommodation, it’s not difficult to find time in the day to have the pool to yourself. Off-street parking is also available if you have a private vehicle. What I personally loved most about staying at Bask & Stow was the supreme comfort and luxurious touches. The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on, I felt as thought I was wrapped in a cloud of comfort every night. My own private deck with wooden table and hanging cane chair was a fabulous place to work or relax with a gentle sea breeze. I looked forward to the monsoon shower at the end of the day, where I could wash away the salt of the day and look forward to tucking myself into bed. WHERE IS BASK & STOW LOCATED?

The boutique accommodation is tucked at the end of a private laneway to ensure tranquility, yet the location is ideally located only 5 minutes’ walk to Byron’s beautiful beaches and the centre of town. Delicious treats and excellent coffee are a short stroll away. Bask & Stow is located at 40 Marvell Lane (access via Cowper St), between Marvell and Carlyle Streets, Byron Bay. As there is also a Marvell Street in Byron, it’s important to ensure your GPS is leading you to the correct location. Find the intersection of Cowper and Carlyle Streets, then you will see Marvell Lane a short way down Cowper Street, before you reach Marvell Street.

Thousands of singles, couples, families and friends fly into the Whitsundays each year looking for ample amounts of fun in the sun. For those days of blissful relaxation where you don’t feel like leaving your resort, a spectacular pool to soak up the serenity is a traveller’s must. Even with the backdrop of the shimmering blue waters of the Coral Sea, resort pools are necessary; for a safe swimming environment, kid-friendly boundaries and refreshing plunges without all the sand for sunbathers. Not to mention, being close to your room means you can duck back into the air-conditioning and grab a snack whenever you desire. We’ve scoured Airlie Beach in search of some of the best pools in the village precinct, and found three of particular note in different areas of town. Airlie Beach has three main hubs of focus; Abell Point Marina, the CBD and foreshore precinct and the Port of Airlie. We’ve chosen our pick from each area and guarantee you’re going to want to jump straight in and hit the book now button. at Marina Shores Boasting Airlie Beach’s biggest private place to make a splash, at Marina Shores is home to a stunning 30 metre pool. The clever L-shape configuration means you can do long

Nestled within a tropical garden setting, lay back on sun loungers under large umbrellas to soak in the serenity of the private courtyard. Because Airlie Beach is a tropical destination, it is relatively warm all year-round, however the water can get a little chilly in the winter months. This is another thing that makes Marina Shore’s pool absolutely perfect; it can be heated to ensure the ideal temperature for year-round play.

ROSE BAY RESORT, BOWEN

UNTOUCHED BEAUTY AT ROSE BAY RESORT, BOWEN

T

here is a feeling of seclusion and intimacy at Rose Bay Resort that leaves a special place in your heart. Located in Bowen, a small holiday town at the northern end of the Whitsunday Islands, Rose Bay Resort is situated in a private remote bay. This little nook of paradise is a discreet, hidden area with no passing traffic and a raw, natural beauty.

Downstairs, the landscaped gardens lead directly to the beach and also the resort’s swimming-pool. These areas are charming and well-maintained. Stunning Surroundings

In fitting with this, the small picturesque Rose Bay Resort has a relaxed, casual atmosphere and charming ambiance. With its absolute beachfront location and uninterrupted views across the pristine bay and out towards the Coral Sea, the resort is a unique and truly special place to holiday.

The peace and tranquillity of Rose Bay Resort means we could do as little as we like but also venture off on quiet walks in nature. Our favourite place was Kings Beach, which is close-by, and, at low tide, we could walk the whole length of the bay, which is stunning.

Award Winning Accommodation

Rose Bay offers some of the most untouched coral reef in Bowen. The marine life in this area is incredible. It is a place where turtles hatch, possums play, dolphins dally, coloured crays are caught, and whales can be watched in the winter months.

Winner of several Tourism Awards, Rose Bay Resort offers a variety of self-contained accommodation options. This includes twobedroom penthouses, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and one-bedroom studios. The accommodation is spotlessly clean with well-maintained appliances and a homely feel. During our stay we enjoyed the luxury of a private balcony with uninterrupted sea views. This spacious outdoor area was our favourite place to relax and we often kept the doors open to allow the cool sea breeze to flow through.

Our one bedroom apartment was fitted with a full-kitchen, modern appliances and tea and coffee making facilities. In addition, the bathroom had a large shower with a separate bath tub for a long leisurely soak after the days activities.

A Sunrise Spectacular The easterly facing aspect of the resort provides guests with a sunny surprise each morning as the sun rises. One of our lasting memories will be watching the bright orange globe transform the sky and light up our room while we laid in our bed each morning. It was a special experience we will remember forever.

Rose Bay Resort also have a limited number of pet friendly apartments. These are located on the ground floor and have a fully fenced yard.

estled in a natural amphitheatre of native trees and parklands, Shingley Beach Resort is an ideal location to base yourself for your Whitsunday adventure. With panoramic views overlooking Abell Point Marina and the Whitsunday Islands, it offers peaceful and picturesque accommodations for singles, couples and families. What type of accommodation is available at Shingley Beach Resort? Shingley Beach Resort is comprised of a range of spacious apartments, from studios up to three-bedroom options. We stayed in a one-bedroom deluxe apartment which felt like the perfect homeaway-from-home. Located on the second floor, the deluxe option provides spectacular views across the Whitsunday water and marina. With a full kitchen, we were able to cook evening meals to be enjoyed on our private balcony, watching the changing colours across the water during a balmy sunset. Our apartment included a full laundry, so washing clothes after a day at the beach was quick and easy. Despite being extremely affordable, our apartment was more spacious than I expected with an open living area and large bathroom. The bed was delightfully comfortable and air-conditioning and ceiling fans ensured that our apartment became a haven from the tropical heat. Where is Shingley Beach Resort located?

SUNLIT WATERS

P

eter and Sandra Wilson are from Tasmania and have been retired for ten years. During this time they have travelled extensively overseas. When they were looking for an Australian holiday where they could relax and unwind, a friend suggested they might like the Whitsundays. “Our friend suggested Sunlit Waters as they had been going back every year for more than 13 years and couldn’t recommend it highly enough,” said Peter. “Fortunately we followed their advice and discovered this little piece of paradise,” agreed Sandra. This is the second year in a row that Peter and Sandra have spent their holiday at Sunlit Waters in Airlie Beach, Gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. We caught up with them to find out more about their experience. Tell us about the accommodation at Sunlit Waters: We stayed in a studio apartment, which is spacious and very well equipped with everything you need to be self-sufficient. The room is spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and a weekly full clean provided. There is a semi private balcony with a fabulous view over Abell Point Marina and a brilliant view of Airlie Sunsets.

Extra Services? Sunlit Waters has the ability to book numerous tours and activities for the same price as local tour desks. Fiona and Chris have excellent local knowledge and can recommend some great experiences and adventures, having been on many themselves. Location? Sunlit Waters is located only a short walk from Airlie Beach town centre, far enough away from the Main Street to be very relaxing and peaceful at night. It is situated on the crest of Airlie Crescent with the best views in Airlie Beach. It is the perfect location from which to explore the local area. We enjoyed a scenic helicopter flight to Whitehaven Beach with ample time to view the scenery of the outer islands by air. We also took a day trip to Hamilton Island which is just a short ferry ride away. Sunlit Waters is a short walk to Saturday Markets located at the foreshore where you can purchase fresh local produce. After 2 years of holidaying at Sunlit Waters we are still discovering fantastic local restaurants with a variety of international cuisines.

How are the facilities?

Tell us about your hosts:

Sunlit Waters provide laundry facilities, an outdoor clothesline, bbq area and a swimming pool with a marvellous view of the Marina.

Fiona and Chris made our stay so enjoyable right from the outset. They are so accommodating and do little extras to ensure your stay is enjoyable.

We would definitely recommend Sunlit Waters to family and friends for the amazing location, outstanding amenities and great value for money. Fiona and Chris are so friendly and welcoming to all their guests. It has a feeling of home away from home and a great place to escape the Tasmanian winter. So much so, we have booked again for next year!
