I can’t believe it’s March already! I am always a month or two ahead of life! I wish I could truly live in the moment, all of the time. We work so hard, to set ourselves up for a future, that is not, and never will be guaranteed. In a single moment your world can change, sometimes for the best and sometimes not, but everything that happens, happens in a single moment, and if you are not in it, it will quickly pass you by. Whilst putting together this issue, with a focus on weddings, it made me realise how important it was to truly appreciate some of those moments in life. My wedding day was made up of many of them, which I will always carry with me. With the exception of the day my little boy came into this world, they would have to be some of the best moments of my life. When I flick through our wedding album or watch our wedding video, it makes me sad in a way, because I will never experience them again, and all I have now is memories. What I didn’t think about is how important it was for me to be present in those moments. No matter how your day unfolds, all that is guaranteed is that, after the hair and make up, the beautiful gown and suit, the music and speeches, the cutting of the cake, and the amazing honeymoon, all of these moments, will become memories, so don’t miss a single second of it, worrying if everything is going to plan. Truly be there, and just enjoy the moment.

MEET DARREN WILSON, Executive Manager, Central Queensland Operations, Hastings Deering

Hastings Deering’s new Executive Manager (Central Queensland Operations), Darren Wilson, has hit the ground running since taking over the reins at the Paget-based giant. With responsibility for Mackay and Rockhampton, there is plenty of work ahead for the new boss who you may find on the water during his downtime. CORE Life got to know the Bareboat enthusiast a little better. Q: Darren, we understand you recently moved back to Mackay after a stint in Rocky. Can you tell us a bit about your background? A: For the past 7 years I have been Hastings Deering Area Manager for the Rockhampton region, covering Rockhampton, Gladstone and Emerald. Prior to that, I worked in Mackay as Service Manager with Hastings Deering, following stints in the Hunter Valley, Cairns, Mt Isa and Townsville. I also hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Q: What are you looking forward to most in this new role? A: This role is part of a major structural change that our company is making in direct response to feedback received by our customers. My new role has a unique ability to combine the best of what our operations offer out of both Mackay and Rockhampton and apply this in a consistent and professional way across our Central Queensland customer base. Q: What will be your priorities in the early months? A: Safety: continuing on our safety journey toward our goal of zero harm. People: continuing to invest in our people through development opportunities and ensuring that they have the right resources, engagement and leadership to achieve high performance. Customer Driven: ensuring that we are responding to customers in a way that meets and exceeds their expectations. Operational Excellence: adopting a consistent and professional standard across our CQ operations and ensuring that we are producing quality in the timeframes that meet our commitments. Facilities: we have several major building projects underway at present, including; -

Extension to our mining equipment workshop Extension to our engineering workshop Reconstruction of our engineering workshop after the fire

8 www.corelife.com.au

-

Commissioning of our temporary paint and sand blast booth facility.

The projects are currently underway with expected completion by September of 2013. Communications: having a communication standard that facilitates greater engagement with our staff and customers. Q: Do you see any immediate challenges that you will need to address? A: The long term outlook for industries that we serve looks positive and we are taking long term views on investments in people, facilities and infrastructure. Naturally, we are looking more closely at improving efficiencies and increasing cost control measures. Our customers are looking for us to add more value to their operations and we are constantly challenging ourselves in new ways to do this. Q: Hastings Deering has a reputation for its positive workplace culture and being a great place to work, do you have any ideas on how to build on that reputation? A: We offer competitive wages and salaries, great lifestyle roster options, and conditions and facilities that are considered to be some of the best in Central Queensland. We will continue to invest in getting great people, growing our facilities and investing in training and development to help ensure that we achieve further improvement and maintain Hastings Deering as a great place to work. Q: Finally, how do you like to spend your downtime? A: Like most normal Australian males, I enjoy a cold beer, good food and a casual relaxed atmosphere. We recently joined the sailing fraternity and I’m looking forward to exploring this region’s coastal islands whilst doing a spot of fishing along the way.

’I ve really enjoyed getting out into the workshops and warehouses and just mixing with our staff.

business FOR THE FIRST-TIME PROPERTY INVESTOR, GETTING STARTED CAN BE FRUSTRATING AS “YOU NEED MONEY TO MAKE MONEY” However once you get started on your first investment property, many people subsequently build up a large portfolio and retire debt free owning several investment properties, which protect their real wealth from the effects of inflation. To get started you need either a cash deposit of usually 10% or equity in a block of land/house etc (equity being the $ difference in what the property is worth and what you owe the bank). Because we are human, we have “limited means and unlimited wants”. In other words, no matter how much we earn, it is never enough. To overcome the problem of saving you need the discipline of a forced savings regime. Open a special saver account and have the maximum you can afford deducted by your pay office and credited straight to the savings account. You then need the will power to not withdraw any money until you have reached your goal. For example, if you were looking to buy a residential property for $430,000 you would need $43,000 for your deposit plus a further $17,000 for stamp duty, legals, mortgage insurance etc i.e. a total of $60 000. By saving $500 per week, you will reach your goal in 2.25 years. Many young people get started with the help of their parents/friends who are willing to allow the borrower to use equity in their residential property. Should, for example, your parents be willing to assist in this manner, it is important to realise that not only are they putting their property at risk should you default, but they are also acting as your guarantor. I always recommend in this situation that they seek independent legal advice. To demonstrate to your parents, yourself and your banker that you are worthy of this support, I recommend that you conduct a savings regime with a target of say $25,000. At $500 per week, you can achieve this in less than one year! The first step is to have the desire to achieve your financial goals and the next step is to open the special savings account.

WANT TO GET YOUR CERTIFICATE IV IN ENGINEERING FLUID POWER, WELDING AND INSTRUMENTATION? Sometimes in life, opportunities come along that can seem too good to be true so we tend to not take them seriously. For example we have all got that text “You have won $350,000 we just need your bank details to deposit”, things like that. This is not one of those times. To address the National Skills Crisis, the State and Federal government are offering a unique opportunity to existing tradesmen. Have your years of experience recognised into an advanced trade qualification and get paid for it. Your employer also receives incentives and the course is designed around workforce flexibility. We understand tradesmen missing from a workforce for training costs money, so we have numerous forms of assessment that will allow us to assess competency without you needing to spend days on end in a classroom. This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as a Higher Engineering Tradesperson focusing on fabrication and maintenance of Fluid Power systems. You will learn skills in carrying out plant maintenance instrumentation, basic calibrations and installation of process control equipment. Eligible tradesmen will be working full or part-time, have a current Queensland address and a desire for advancement. For full information, costings and enrolment packs call Advantage Business College today on: 07 4941 9100 or email us on: enquiry@abc-online.com.au.

for the boys THE FIRST LAND ROVER MADE ITS DEBUT IN 1948. IT WAS DESIGNED WITH BRILLIANT SIMPLICITY FOR EXTRAORDINARY ABILITY AND UNRIVALLED STRENGTH AND DURABILITY. IN FACT, SIX DECADES ON, IT IS ESTIMATED THAT TWO-THIRDS OF ALL THESE INCREDIBLE VEHICLES ARE STILL AT WORK – MANY OF THEM IN SOME OF THE MOST EXTREME CONDITIONS AND INHOSPITABLE PLACES ON EARTH.

The original 1948 Land Rover was ingeniously designed and engineered for extreme capability and strength. With extremely robust construction and characteristics such as short front and rear overhangs, it drove off the production line ready to take on some of the world’s toughest terrain. Today these qualities are as significant a part of what makes a Land Rover vehicle unique as they were 60 years ago. The Land Rover was the product of continuous evolution and refinement throughout the 1950s and 1960s with improved stability and a tighter turning circle. It was a period in which Land Rover took the lead in the emerging market for four-wheel drive vehicles. As a tough, reliable mobility platform, countless organisations came to depend on Land Rover vehicles to get personnel and equipment into the most challenging situations…and then safely out again. From organisations such as Born Free Foundation to The Royal Geographical Society and Biosphere Expeditions - we enter the second decade of the 21st century with them still relying on Land Rover. In keeping with the forward-thinking philosophy that founded Land Rover, a radical, entirely new product was introduced in 1970 and created its very own vehicle category. This overnight sensation was the original Range Rover. It had all the capability of a Land Rover with the comfort and performance of an on-road car. This culture of innovation has developed ever since with both Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles: new models, more refinement, more innovative technology, more efficiency and fewer emissions. And it continues with initiatives such as e_Terrain Technologies (which improves the environmental performance of vehicles by reducing CO2 emissions), Sustainable Manufacturing and CO2 Offsetting. Land Rover will remain at the forefront 12 www.corelife.com.au

of advanced design – the new small Range Rover is a testament to the vision that takes the company forward and keeps it at the cutting edge of technology and engineering. For more information visit

for the boys LIFE-LONG SPEEDSTER LUCKY KEIZER IS HEADING TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA TO SECURE THE WORLD 1000CC GASOLINE MOTORCYCLE LAND SPEED RECORD. THE MACKAY-BASED RIDER IS TAKING HIS SELF-BUILT STREAMLINER SOUTH TO BEAT THE CURRENT RECORD OF 178MPH. Q: How long has the current speed record been at 178mph? A: I think it’s been standing for around 15 years. I’m aiming to get to 235mph. Q: How do you prepare for a race like that? A: You don’t have to be physically fit because the race is in a straight line, but you do have to look after yourself the best you can. Your mind is the most important thing. You have to be psychologically up for this challenge. My years of desert and street riding have kept me fit. Q: Tell us about your bike? A: It’s a Streamliner Class Gasoline 1000cc. I built it myself in my backyard so I know there are no shortcuts. I feel so confident about the race because I built the bike myself. It’s taken two to three years. Q: Have you always been a motorcycle enthusiast? A: I started building and racing at around 11 years of age. I’ve always been into bikes. I’ve also got an Australian record from another Speedliner I raced in 2000. That bike’s on display in a museum in Brisbane as Australia’s fastest bike. Q: What’s next after this attempt? A: If we take out the title this month in Australia, I’ll get to go to the USA in August. That race is on the historical track at Bonneville in Utah where Burt Munro (of World’s Fastest Indian fame) took his title. But then there is always something else to do, I’ll probably go to a supercharged class and then a hybrid class, which will be the first of its kind. Q: We are happy to hear you are doing well after your fight with prostate cancer last year. Did that motivate you to do this race? A: When you get over something like that you feel so much better, your mind is so much sharper and you have so much more energy. I’m not leaving this planet until I’m the fastest one on it. 14 www.corelife.com.au

V8 UTE CHAMPION AND TALENTED FASHION DESIGNER, RYAL HARRIS, HAS PLENTY ON HIS PLATE FOR 2013. CORE LIFE SPOKE TO THE CHAMPION RACER JUST WEEKS OUT FROM THE YEAR’S FIRST MAJOR RACING MEET, THE CLIPSAL 500 IN ADELAIDE. With the combined talents of motor racing and streetwear designing, Gold Coast based Ryal Harris will be showing his skills both on and off the track this year. Despite the search for a major sponsor, the passionate 28 year old is keen to hit the track in his Ford FG Ute for another year of high performance racing.

-

-

-

-

“I purely love driving, when I’m behind the wheel, I love it. But I’m not your average driver, I don’t have a jet ski or a motorbike, I love engines and I have a major passion for fashion as well.” Harris designs modern streetwear t-shirts in his off time and says the creative flair fits perfectly with his racing career. V8 Ute racing is a hot sport and the second most popular category of racing behind V8 Supercars. Harris explains it’s also a great way for upand-coming drivers to get their foot in the door, especially in a world where money talks. “You get more bang for your buck, it’s the best category where you get the most exposure for the least amount of money. There are cheaper categories of course but they don’t have the (TV and crowd) exposure.” It costs about $120,000 a year, which Harris is quick to point out is much cheaper than V8 Supercars. “The benefits are huge for sponsors, eight hours of television on Channel 7 and replays on Fox. It’s also about team building and corporate days.” As for the future of V8 Ute racing, the 2012 Champion says the sport is going from strength to strength. “It (Ute racing) will remain the only big category for Ford versus Holden for the next couple of years, but then they will also have to switch to other manufacturers because they don’t even make the V8 Utes anymore. The Ute category is so popular that it will always go on.” 18 www.corelife.com.au

for the boys GT’S, LOVE THEM OR HATE THEM, HAVE A SPECIAL SPOT IN THE WORLD OF FISH. MANY WORDS CAN BE USED TO DESCRIBE THEM.... BRUTES, THUGS, BULLIES BUT FOR THE SPORT FISHERMAN, THERE ARE NOT MANY FISH THAT CAN GIVE YOU THE CHALLENGE OF CATCHING THEM LIKE THEY DO! Growing to over 60kg and eating almost anything or everything that gets in their way, puts them right at the top of the food chain on the Great Barrier Reef. GT’s as we call them, can be caught by almost every method of fishing. From bait, both dead and live, to lures, both soft and hard bodies, and for the very adventurous, GT’s also stretch out a fly rod. By far the most popular and exciting way to target GT’s is with surface poppers and stick baits. These hard bodied lures are best used with a casting and retrieve style around the reef edges. The strike from an angry GT can be breathtaking and something you will never get sick of seeing. What happens after this is where the fun really begins and has been linked to being attached to a wild bull on a short tether! The GT will normally dive for the nearest reef to try and cut you off. If you manage to stay connected after the first couple of runs, you could be in luck in landing the big fish! GT’s are not good to eat unless they are under about 3kg. At this age they are ok if bled, iced immediately and eaten that day, not frozen. All big fish are best to be photographed and released to harass the reef fraternity for another day! Last month I spoke about tournament fishing and getting involved with local fishing clubs. This month we have something very exciting coming up that any keen GT fisherman/woman should certainly be a part of. 22 www.corelife.com.au

“GT Fever in the Whitsundays” is a Giant Trevally tournament which has been put together by a few “diehard” GT anglers who regularly fish the local waters for the mighty GT. This year will be the inaugural event and it is open to the public. There are a couple of different categories and the rules are very simple! The whole idea is about getting a bunch of like-minded fishos together for a great weekend of fishing, targeting one of the most challenging fish that swim our local waters. It’s all about sport too, with all fish to be released after a quick measure and photo. Although the rules are simple, it’s all about catching the Giant Trevally on artificial lures such as poppers, stick baits, hard bodied, soft plastics and jigs. Any line class an be used but each GT must be a minimum of 60cm to qualify for point scoring. Fishing will be the first weekend in May. Entry will be $50 per person. CHECK OUT NINE SONS OF DAN’S NEW SINGLE: FUN (LA DA DA DA DA) ON YOUTUBE.COM

UP AND COMING POP/ROCK BAND NINE SONS OF DAN (NSOD) ARE SWIFTLY ON THE RISE AND SAM FROM CORE LIFE MAG CAUGHT UP WITH LEAD SINGER JAY TO SEE WHAT THE BRISSY 5 PIECE HAVE BEEN UP TO LATELY…

Q: Thanks so much for taking the time to chat to us today! You guys have a great sound – how did you decide that pop/rock was the style for you? A: Thank you so much! Well punk/rock is really what we all like listening to, and when you’re writing and creating music that you like yourself, it’s easier to develop and you find that you actually like producing the music. Q: Your new single ‘Fun (La da da da da)’ [on radio now!] has very catchy riffs and upbeat lyrics – what was the idea behind this song? A: Yeah thanks. We wrote ‘Fun’ in the studio when we were recording our new EP [The New Kids]. The boys came up with the riffs and I overheard and worked on the vocals. It just came together. It can sometimes get very stressful and serious when you’re recording in the studio, so we just went ‘screw it, let’s have some fun’ and looked back on what we’ve done and put the song together. Q: Do you write your own music and lyrics – is it a combined effort or a solo job?

Something For Kate and The Veronicas to name a few, how good does that feel? A: Man, that was unreal! It really came down to our fans, so we really appreciate that! Seeing our names up there with these other artists was crazy! We got to do an awesome interview on TV too. Q: You’ve toured with some big bands – Good Charlotte, Grinspoon, The Darkness and Simple Plan to name a few – what were these bands like to tour with? A: There was this one night with Simple Plan… I don’t remember where we were, but things got a little crazy! Those boys know how to party hard! The lead singer from The Darkness was the nicest guy you’ll ever meet – he stood side of stage to watch our set and was grooving the whole time, it was crazy! Q: Speaking of Simple Plan, NSOD accompanied the boys on their national tour, with a stop in Mackay – what did you think of the atmosphere of our little city?

A: We do write our own music and lyrics, though we do have an awesome producer, Matt Bartlem, on the Gold Coast who’s worked with Dead Letter Circus. We’ve also had a great collab with Justin York (brother of Paramore guitarist) who did some guitar work on our last EP.

A: Oh yeah, we loved Mackay! It’s a great little town. We actually felt that our show in Mackay was one of the best on tour – usually you have to work a crowd pretty hard, but you guys were ready to party!

Q: NSOD also earned a spot in the coveted top ten of Channel V’s Oz Artist Of The Year 2012 alongside Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian,

A: We’re actually coming back on our National Tour on 23rd of March! It’s very exciting, we can’t wait!

Q: What’s next on the cards for NSOD?

entertainment SAMUEL SMITH’S NUT BROWN ALE UK Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water, best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’. BEER BOTTLE RATING

GAVROCHE

DELIRIUM TREMENS

Belgium

Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle. Serve with care between 10 and 12°C.

The particular character and the unique taste of “Delirium Tremens” result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as “best beer in the world”. A gold medal during the “world beer championships” in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

entertainment Q: So, how does it feel to be sharing the stage with the world’s most famous rock stars, KISS? A: It’s a rock ‘n’ roll dream of epic proportions, somewhat unbelievable really. Every morning I wake up with a smile and about four times a day I have an excitement fit, which consists of a blast of nervousness and then a feeling of wonder of what is about to happen. I have a picture in my head about how it’s gonna be, but who knows if we will even get to meet these world famous rock stars? One thing is for sure, we’re gonna wear some killer expensive perfume on that stage so at least if they don’t meet us or see us play, they will smell us! [laughs]

CORE LIFE MAG CAUGHT UP WITH SINGER AND BASS GUITARIST, KYLIE COWLING FROM DIVA DEMOLITION FOR A CHAT ABOUT THEIR RISING STARDOM AND THE EXCITEMENT OF OPENING FOR THE BIGGEST ROCK BAND EVER!

Q: Tell us about your new single, “Energy”? A: The song is about that incredible exchange between two people who, when they first meet are undeniably attracted to one another, so much so that they can’t get enough of each other! It’s a hungry feeling and it’s mutual, and if you’ve ever experienced it, you will know exactly what I’m talking about. Q: You’ve played at Airlie Beach before, tell us about that? A: Before Diva Demolition, Sherree and I were in an all girl band called Legless. While playing at the Adelaide Hills Halloween Ball, we met Sarah from Divalicious. She made a decision that night that she simply “had to have” us perform at her fashion show and hence we travelled to Airlie not once but twice to perform at these fashion extravaganzas! It was such an amazing experience. Such a beautiful place to visit. We felt very special! Since then Sarah has been working closely with us on our outfits for the tour. It’s an absolute nightmare thinking about what to wear for such an event. She has helped tremendously and puts us onto some very cool designers. Q: How did your name come about? A: Deciding on a new name was difficult. The third Legless album was called “Diva Demolition”. The name suits us incredibly. Originally it was inspired by the behaviour of all the girls who passed through Legless... most of which thought it would be a glamorous and easy job. We’re keen to show the world that we are real women who actually can play, sing and perform really well, just as good, if not better, than the guys. Q: What’s next after the KISS Monster tour?

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THEIR NEW SINGLE ‘ENERGY’ OUT NOW, OFF THE UPCOMING ALBUM ‘LIKE IT TOO MUCH’

A: There is a plenty to look forward to! Another single or two and the release of our debut album. We’ve really only scratched the surface. Already there is the promise of more touring supports. We hope to be headlining our own shows eventually, but meanwhile we have a big job to do building a strong audience base and doing the “hard yards” around the country a few times, just as all the rock bands who are worth anything have done. We’re not here to be an overnight sensation and aim to be doing this for many years to come.

wedding feature THE IRISH HAVE A SAYING: ‘MARRY IN MAY AND RUE THE DAY; MARRY IN APRIL IF YOU CAN, JOY FOR MAIDEN AND FOR MAN’. This old gem might not be enough to frighten couples into changing their wedding date, but there are plenty of other traditions and old wive’s tales that play on our mind on the big day. Most brides will be wearing white, carrying something borrowed or blue, and may even have a horseshoe for good luck. For local couple Puneet and Iti Sharma’s Indian wedding, the time and date of their 2007 nuptials was determined by a complete stranger. “We had an astrologer come in and work out when we should get married based on the minute, date and year of our births, as well as other factors such as our star signs and family history,” Puneet told CORE Life. The astrologer’s summation was a ceremony that was to take place at 2.30am on February 14. “Everyone had to stay awake all night. We had the exchanging of rings taking place the night before from 9pm, and then we had the ceremony in the middle of the night which went to around 4.30am, followed by three or four days of celebrating.” Six years later, the couple can thank the astrologer for a romantic anniversary date (Valentine’s Day) to celebrate their wedding marathon. OTHER INTERESTING WEDDING TRADITIONS Smash - At a Jewish wedding the groom must stomp on a glass, wrapped in a napkin, which is aimed at symbolising the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem. Jump - In some Africa and Northern Europe countries, the bride and groom jump over a broom to show they are leaping into a new life together. Cash - In Polish weddings, the bride is given an apron at the end of the reception and each guest must place money into it as they leave the event. More smashing - Germans like to hold a special party called a Polterabend where guests get to smash pieces of china crockery. It’s said this particular tradition symbolises the many disturbances the couple will have during their lives. White wedding – And did you know the tradition of wearing a white dress only came into place in 1840 when Queen Victoria chose the controversial colour for her nuptials to Price Albert. Prior to then, no colour was off limits and many choose bright pastels and other hues for their day. Various cultures still chose bright colours but for western women the choice of white is still the most common.

So what research do you need to do, and what questions should you ask? THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT CRITERIA: 1. You must love the photographer’s work! It is crucial that you feel excited by the photos you are viewing. View the photographers work on their website, ask for a sample DVD and/or meet with the photographer where possible. 2. Personality! She/He should be easy to get along with so that you feel comfortable, relaxed and in capable, supportive hands. Speak to the photographers you’re considering. OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER: Ensure the photographer is qualified. Check that they are a member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers. The word “professional” can be used loosely in the photography industry. There is no prerequisite. So ensure they are working to industry standards set by the institute. Referrals are a good place to start. Talk to others in the wedding industry and/or friends who have been married. Package inclusions. Be clear as to what your package includes. Are digital files supplied and are they printable? // How will your proofs be supplied? // What albums are on offer? // What level of postproduction is included? // How long will the photographer be shooting on the day? // How many photographs will you receive after your wedding? Iconic Bride Photography boasts multi award winning photographers on both a national and international platform with their principal photographer, Norina Jane, being awarded an associate membership with the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers this year for producing wedding photography at a consistent award-winning standard over the past five years. The talented team offer the most sought after, unique and beautiful wedding photographs, taken with a relaxed, supportive and fun loving approach. Iconic Bride photos regularly feature in magazines such as: Queensland Brides, Bride To Be and Cosmopolitan Bride. We would love to feature you! For more information about their wedding services, please contact Iconic Bride Photography for a detailed information pack that they can send out to you today 4948 0330. 42 www.corelife.com.au

Excuse me, you can wake up now! That is the fantasy every little girl has grown up to believe, that her wedding will be the most memorable and perfect day of her life. But be warned, if everything is not perfect chances are she is going to turn into a Bridezilla and if you are her fiancé, mother, friend or even a stranger, you will want to run for your life! WHAT ARE THE SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF A BRIDEZILLA? • She will have standards that no one can meet • She will be emotionally unstable and her moods will be subject to frequent change without notice • She will be impatient, demanding and a perfectionist • She will refer to the wedding day as “My Day” not “Our Day” • She will be willing to take down anyone who does not cater to whims ranging from her fiancé to the florist THERE ARE 4 WAYS TO AVOID BECOMING A BRIDEZILLA

1. Include your partner. After all it is his day too and quite possibly the whole thing was his idea when he proposed! Men usually leave it all up to the ladies to do the organising, because they want their fiancé to have what they want (and yes - they have heard the Bridezilla stories and yes, they are scared!). Ask their opinion and keep them involved. 2. Ask for help. You have family, friends and bridesmaids for a reason. Look at them as a support team if you like. They want to help you have a special day too. 3. When you are getting quotes from prospective venues who may end up becoming a part of the big day, remember they are on your side and they want to please you. All you need to do is be clear on what you want. Put all your ideas on paper and give them a list. Make it easy for people to please you by knowing what you want.

A BRIDE HAS BEEN DREAMING ABOUT HER WEDDING DAY SINCE SHE WAS A LITTLE GIRL. THIS IS HER DAY TO BE A PRINCESS, TO WEAR THE BEAUTIFUL WHITE FLOWING DRESS, TO WALK DOWN THE AISLE AS SHE HEARS ALL THE GASPS FROM THE AUDIENCE AS THEY ADMIRE HER BEAUTY. IT’S THE DAY SHE SLIPS HER FOOT INTO THE GLASS SLIPPER AND LIVES HAPPILY EVER AFTER WITH HER PRINCE CHARMING.

4. Take time out to relax. Planning a wedding takes a lot of energy and attention and chances are you already have a full life. Indulge and take time out for a coffee with friends, go out for dinner, or go for a massage. Somewhere in the glitz and glamour of a wedding, women can easily forget that getting married is not just about that one day. Every day is special when you are spending it with the person you love. Accept that not everything will be perfect and it doesn’t need to be. You are marrying the man of your dreams and that’s a fact and that’s all that really matters.

wedding feature HERE ARE SOME GREAT TIMELINE TIPS TO ENSURE YOUR MAKE-UP LOOKS ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY! THE DATE IS SET: Once you have set a date, contact your preferred make up artist with the details. During your initial consultation, make sure you lock in a date to do a make up trial and consider the following when choosing the right make-up style for you: 1. The style of your dress e.g. vintage, boho, sophisticated, natural or beachy. Make sure this same style is followed! If you are having a vintage dress, pick vintage hair and make-up. 2. What will suit your colouring? Choose colours that will bring out your eyes and complement your colouring. Your make-up artist can tell you what works best for you. 3 MONTHS OUT: Go to a qualified beautician and get a skin diagnosis. Find out what your skin needs to look its absolute best on the day. It’s vital that you use a skin care range that suits your skin. 1 WEEK OUT: Get your eyelashes tinted. Tinted eyelashes stand out and will ensure they are black from root to tip. This means less mascara ladies, and all close photos will be more defined. 3 DAYS OUT: Time for a brow wax! Eyebrows frame your face, make your eyes look bigger and it will give you that polished look. If you have to pluck them on the day you may risk redness. Always get someone you can trust to do this to avoid last minute diasters. THE NIGHT BEFORE: Exfoliate, but don’t use a product that is too harsh. This will make your skin glow and create a smooth surface, allowing for much longer lasting make up. Don’t forget to drink heaps of water and get to bed early. GLOSSY LIPS ARE HOT!

For further tips, or if you woud like a wedding consult, please contact Rachelle today from Airlie Beach Bridal. 0438 765 844

I recommend gloss to all my brides. Why? Gloss will make your lips look fuller and more natural. Gloss can also be very portable and easy to re-apply throughout the day. I also use a lip liner to give your lips a colour boost and to help stop the gloss from moving around too much. You will not be short of choice when it comes to colours either. So ladies, go for bold sensual eyes and use a gloss to highlight natural lush lips, perfect for kissing.

perfect smile OUR WEDDING DAY IS ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE DAYS OF OUR LIVES. OF COURSE THIS MEANS WE WANT EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT. PART OF THIS IS LOOKING OUR ABSOLUTE BEST ON THIS MOST SPECIAL DAY.

I like to prepare the bride (and groom) in a three step process, which often starts 6-8 weeks before the big day arrives. Step one: is to repair and rejuvenate the skin using medical grade cosmeceuticals and gentle resurfacing techniques to improve the texture and tone of the skin, giving that fantastic glow. Step two: is to soften and eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. This may include help to reduce the appearance of frown, forehead and lines around the eyes. Step three: is to replace lost volume and improve hydration to areas of the face where the ageing process has depleted natural volume. Often placing some volume back into the cheeks to reframe the eyes can make a vast difference. The result: a radiant, rejuvenated and fresh, natural appearance helping to make you stand out on your special day. Don’t forget, the groom might appreciate a bit of anti wrinkle work too so he doesn’t feel he is missing out! WHEN SELECTING A VENUE, TRY TO SELECT ONE THAT ALREADY HAS THE CHARACTERISTICS AND STYLE THAT YOU LIKE: THIS MEANS YOU WILL SAVE SO MUCH ON DECORATIONS AS YOU ONLY NEED TO HIGHLIGHT IT, NOT COMPLETELY OVERHAUL IT. We see many brides become influenced by the idea of what a wedding is ‘supposed to look like’, that they lose sight of why they chose their venue in the first place. There are many beautiful non-traditional venues and restaurants in the Whitsundays, and there are many simple ways to let them shine for what they are and provide a stunning backdrop for your Whitsunday wedding. A QUICK 1, 2, 3, 4… FOR PLANNING THE LOOK OF YOUR DAY:

WANT THE PERFECT CAKE FOR YOUR BIG DAY? CHECK OUT THESE TIPS FROM COLLIS CATERING TO HELP YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT. THE CAKE: Know your favourite flavours, a good cake maker will be able to create a cake that incorporates your favourites!

1. Confirm your venue 2. Select your bridal party attire 3. Choose your bouquets and desired floral elements 4. Move on to the decorations! Step 1, 2 and 3 will influence your decorations and overall look, so by locking in these elements first it narrows down the field, making it much easier to choose from the vast array of options. Head down to I Do Events Whitsundays and have a chat with Vanessa about your wedding plans today or give her a call on 4948 0429.

Taste test, you should be able to try before you buy. A wedding cake is a costly cake, and you don’t want a cake that looks beautiful, but tastes horrible. One thing guests will always remember at a wedding is the food, especially the cake! IMAGE: Adam Finch, Studio Impressions

Cake as dessert, or dessert and cake? This will dictate the size of cake required, and just how much you will have budgeted for your cake. THE DESIGN: Know your style, theme and colours. Is it simple, elegant, extravagant, vintage, alternative etc? Size and shape, do you want your cake to be the decoration, or to blend into the decorations? Square or round cakes? Knowing how many different flavoured cakes you want will help dictate how many tiers you need. Decorations, do you want toppers - bride and groom, initials, bouquet etc? Bling, handmade, or real? The decorations on your cake should reflect the overall theme of your wedding. Research, magazines and internet are great places for inspiration. Don’t go overboard though, your mind can be boggled. Like wedding dresses, there are so many cakes out there, and if you can decide what theme you are after it will help narrow your search. Collaboration, you need to have a good relationship, where your ideas are paramount, but at the same time your maker can advise you to what is and isn’t going to work. You need to trust your cake maker, not only that your cake is going to be fabulous, but it’s going to taste fabulous too. There are no rehearsal dinners for cake, so you need to know your cake will meet your expectations!!

Y

our day,

CELEBRANT ANNIE LLOYD-LEWIS CAN CONFIRM THAT LOVE AND ROMANCE ARE BOTH ALIVE AND THRIVING IN QUEENSLAND. When Annie began conducting weddings in the Whitsundays, she had a made-from-movies idea that the majority of Australian men just had a shave and put on a clean shirt before popping the big question. Now after six years of marrying couples in love, she knows better.

A

Y

nnie Lloyd-Lewis

CELEBRANT

TWO OF HER FAVOURITE PROPOSALS OCCURRED IN THE WHITSUNDAYS:

1.

Jade and EJ love the underwater world that they frequently explore on diving expeditions. This passion was most certainly demonstrated when EJ proposed to Jade underwater in the Coral Gardens off Hook Island with five simple words scrawled on a dive slate, producing from his dive suit the biggest gumball machine ring you have ever seen. Of course Jade said yes, and had the double surprise of the real ring when they surfaced.

2.

Mark lured his girlfriend Luisa to a very isolated, yet breathtakingly beautiful stretch of Queensland beach after claiming his car had broken down. Marking a trail with tropical palms, Luisa came to a spot where Mark stood next to a huge love heart etched in the sand. Fresh flowers adorned the site and the words “ti amo, mi voi sposare,” I love you, will you marry me” were scratched into the heart. Luisa stood in disbelief that she could have someone that was so wonderful and with tears of joy, was happy to reply ‘si’ YES! Now when Annie meets a couple one of the first things she says is, ‘”Tell me about the proposal.” If you would like to have a chat to Annie about your wedding needs, give her a call today on: 0419 657 032.

FUN AND EXCITING HEN’S NIGHT IDEAS FOR EVERY BUDGET AND BRIDE.

OCEAN RAFTING VISITS THE “WILD SIDE” OF THE WHITSUNDAY ISLANDS, THE UNINHABITED ISLANDS WITH BEAUTIFUL NATURAL SCENERY BRIMMING WITH MARINE, BIRD AND ANIMAL LIFE. Guests enjoy three days in one, including an exhilarating ride to Whitehaven Beach, pristine snorkelling reefs and guided Whitsunday Island National Parks walks. Ocean Rafting is the only tour to have direct access to the stunning and iconic Hill Inlet Beach, and special snorkel sites at Hook Island and Border Island ensure a memorable underwater experience. The semi rigid inflatable vessels are super fast allowing guests to experience a fun ride, adventure and education amongst the natural beauty of the Whitsundays. Given the ideal size of Ocean Rafting’s vessels, the opportunity to exclusively charter one (or more) vessels offers the perfect day out for wedding groups of 25-32 people, for a pre or post wedding event with friends and family or an exciting Buck’s or Hen’s day out. Smaller groups may wish to travel on one of the two regular day tours, the Northern Exposure or Southern Lights. Ocean Rafting was the winner of both the Adventure Tourism Award and the Tour and/or Transport Operator Award at the 2012 Queensland Tourism Awards.

PLAYFUL PROMOTIONS PROVIDE AN AMAZING SERVICE TO HELP YOU ORGANISE YOUR BEST HEN’S PARTY EVER! Want buff babes waiting on you hand and foot? Making all of your cocktails? How about a male stripper with whipped cream and strawberries? No problem. We have it all! For your hen’s night entertainment, make room for some great games that will have everyone mingling, laughing and even blushing. From innocent to down-right humiliating, you’re sure to find a handful of games to suit your party style.

Post It Note Game: Pin the Hose on the Fireman: This game is pretty self explanatory.

AFTER AN EVENTFUL DAY ON THE WATER, WHY NOT FINISH THE NIGHT OFF WITH A BANG? Head down to Magnums Hotel in Airlie and contiue the buck’s party into the wee hours of the morning. Contact Playful Promotions in Mackay for some of the best Buck’s party ideas or organise some girls for a poker night! The choices are never ending with these guys, they can cater to your every request.

Pass the Parcel: Includes adult novelties, massage oils and a few truth or dare questions in between.

We love this game as it’s a great way to give the bride a sweet memento of the night. Give everyone a post-it note and pen. Each hen writes a short sentence of a memory they have of the bride. As she reads them out she has to guess who wrote it and explain the story out loud. Tales of childhood, old boyfriends and drunken nights welcome.

Design the Wedding Dress: Includes toilet paper and pairing up to make and model a wedding dress, followed by lots of photos with our hot, hunky topless waiters.

wedding feature YOUR WEDDING DAY IS ONE THAT YOU’VE BEEN DREAMING ABOUT, SO DON’T LET THE STRESS OF PLANNING YOUR CATERING OVERWHELM YOU. HERE ARE A FEW TIPS FROM THE TEAM AT COLLIS CATERING TO HELP EASE THE PRESSURE:

1. Organise a trial dinner with your caterer to sample food options. 2. If your wedding is being catered for in a restaurant, book in for a meal

to get a feel for the place and the service they provide.

3. Always be specific in your dealings with your caterer. Your wedding day is unique and your decisions regarding food and setup should reflect this. 4. Think about local produce. Whatever is local is fresh, and we all know fresh is best! 5. If you have specific requirements regarding catering, give your caterer plenty of time to adjust the menu accordingly. Eg. gluten free, vegetarian, allergies.

6. Try not to feel overwhelmed with menu options. Start with two meats, two sources of carbohydrates and plenty of fresh salads and veg. Whether you’re having cocktail food, a buffet, an elegant sit down meal or a BBQ, your caterer will be able to come up with a suitable menu covering all food groups. 7. Decide on whether you want to incorporate the wedding cake into the

dessert menu.

8. Pre-dinner cocktail food is a great way to get your guests out of their seats and mingling. It also fills in time between ceremony and reception. 9. It’s important that cocktail food remain bite size. You don’t want to

fill them up, you want to give them a taste of what’s to come. Small but delicious portions are recommended.

IMAGINE YOURSELF SURROUNDED BY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AS YOU STAND BESIDE YOUR CHOSEN LIFE PARTNER. Imagine the joy and tears of happiness as those around you gaze out to the beautiful, sparkling Coral Sea as you exchange vows, surrounded by love. Our Wedding Pavilion offers the ultimate in privacy and beauty.

10. Ask your caterer what dishes they would recommend. They have

specialty dishes they do well so consider incorporating this into the menu.

Imagine the feel of the warm, salty breeze as you enjoy your Reception overlooking Abel Point Marina and the majestic Coral Sea.

AFTER This month’s makeover was made complete thanks to all the crew at Mint Hair: Shelley, Kirsten, Samara, Tam, Alissa and Lisa. We love our transformation on our fabulous model Amanda, she wanted something completely different and the Mint crew certainly delivered. With our team constantly learning and bringing new colours and techniques to each salon, our very talented Kirsten has given Amanda a full head of extensions, coloured with one of the new Goldwell colours, from their unique fashion range. The very talented Samara, one of our awesome senior stylists and makeup artist, has given Amanda a great new look with her stunning make-up. Using liquid liner on the top lid and lashings of mascara, this technique makes Amanda’s eyes pop. A pretty pink gloss on the lips completes the look.

wedding feature NEED SOME EXTRA HELP TO GET YOU INTO THAT GORGEOUS WEDDING DRESS AND TUX? HERE’S A FEW TIPS FORM OUR FITNESS EXPERTS.

With the big day looming, you want to lose 5kg right? The key is to break the problem down. 1. Hate the scales! Throw them away and take measurements. Change your goals to waist, bust and hip measurements. It’s size you want to lose, not weight – this will help you stay motivated. 2. Do strength training 3 x per week – thermogenesis (fat burning) from weights lasts days and makes weight training an effective fat burner. 3. Do cardio every day – sometimes intense cardio (like a spin class) and sometimes mild cardio. 4. Eat yourself thin. Eat clean, small, and often. Small, balanced meals several times a day will drive your metabolism and smash fat.

Men are lucky – dropping weight is easier for men than women because of a little thing called “testosterone”! This male hormone drives your metabolism, builds muscle, burns fat and gives you the motivation to do hard work. So, the top 5 things a guy can do: 1. Do full body metabolic training – “Metabolic Training” means working all the major muscle groups (chest, back and leg) together, doing big compound movements (bench press, leg press, chins etc) to get the maximum fat burning response from your muscles. 2. Keep the repetitions high, the intensity high and the rests between sets in your strength workout short. 3. Do interval cardio training on non strength days (high intensity periods of work followed by rest then repeated). Running, cycling, or rowing are particularly effective. 4. Train your legs, a lot of guys don’t bother – your legs are the largest fat burner in your body. Ignore them at your peril. 5. Eat small and often, eat 20-50g of protein per meal, and DON’T DRINK ALCOHOL!.

For the BRIDE to be. 1. Don’t leave losing weight until the last minute. Know how much you would like to lose and plan a week per kilo, don’t try to lose it any faster! 2. Read labels – know where the sugars are lurking. Remove as much sugar and refined carbs as possible. 3. Snack on whole foods, fruits, nuts and vegetables. 4. Prepare your own meals - each meal to include a good source of protein. 5. Eating breakfast is a must!

Wedding day countdown training tips for the boys who want to look their best! 1. Prepare well in advance – make sure you allow plenty of time to resculpt your body, you won’t achieve a ripped physique in a week.

6. Replace flavoured drinks with water (add a squeeze of lemon if necessary).

2. Good functional posture focused weight training sessions 3 - 4 times per week with 5 - 10 mins of controlled cardio after each weights session (keep heart rate under 120bpm for best results).

7. Eat from a wide variety of foods.

3. Water – boosts energy levels, concentration and metabolism.

8. Shrink your portion sizes.

4. Stay away from processed foods, too much sugar and alcohol. Eat lots of lean and green to get lean and mean.

9. Start weight training and do some cardio. 10. When all else fails, ask for help – there are many groups.

ARTHUR AND PEGGY GOODALL RIVER CITY MOTOR GROUP OWNERS, ARTHUR AND PEGGY GOODALL, ARE HOPING TO INTRODUCE A NEW LEVEL OF LUXURY VEHICLES TO THE REGION’S ROADS. SINCE TAKING OVER THE LOCAL FORD AND LAND ROVER BRANDS IN JANUARY, THE COUPLE HAVE CEMENTED THEIR COMBINED 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN MACKAY, AND ARE FIRMLY COMMITTED TO THE FAMILY-RUN BUSINESS FOR THE LONG HAUL.

The couple spoke to CORE Life about the exciting range of Land Rovers on show and why the luxury brand is perfect for the north Queensland lifestyle. Q: You have been around cars for a long time, how did you end up in Mackay? A: We’ve been here for two and half years and came for the opportunity to take on the Mackay dealerships. We believe our passion and experience can help enhance the offerings of luxury and other vehicles to the local market. We are passionate about the industry and have spent the past 20 years working in various technical and management roles around Australia and overseas. We also spent time in dealerships in Thailand, China and the Philippines.

Q: We’ve seen the Range Rover Evoque, it’s very sexy. A: Yes, they are very popular. It’s the first car in the Range Rover category that has the new dynamic shape. It has a much edgier style and introduces a whole new range of customer to the brand. Q: Are your boys (aged 3 and 6) car fanatics too? A: Our boys are so in tune with what we do. They know the make and model of all our brands and love to talk with our staff. It’s important for the whole family to be involved because, although we have only been here for two and a half years, we are planning on being here forever.

Q: What makes the River City Motor Group unique? A: We have 13 brands of vehicles across the company including Kia, Chrysler, Suzuki, Alpha Romeo, Fiat, Volkswagen, Ford and Land Rover. We have more than 100 locally based staff and we run the business as a family. That’s important to us. We don’t manage behind an office door, we are out on the floor with the guys all the time. Q: You added the Ford and Land Rover brands to your business in January, how will this impact the local drive market? A: Ford is already a much-loved and entrenched brand here. But it’s time for Land Rover to take its place too. These premium vehicles start from about $44,990 for your Freelander and go right through to in-excess of $300,000 for top of range Range Rover. There is quite a wide scope. They are a luxury 4WD and, if you look at the range, there is something for everyone. Take the Defender for example, it still has its unique shape which is about 60 years old, and is synonymous with the outdoors and lifestyle. 68 www.corelife.com.au

EVEN THOUGH FEBRUARY WAS THE MONTH FOR BOWEL CANCER AWARENESS, WE WANTED TO TOUCH BASE ON IT AGAIN THIS MONTH. BOWEL CANCER IS SECOND TO LUNG CANCER IN LIVES THAT IT TAKES EACH YEAR, IT IS ALSO THE MOST PREVENTABLE. THROUGH DIET AND EXERCISE.

I wonder how many of us even knew about bowel cancer month? It seems we are still very private about this aspect of our daily life. Colonic irrigation has been around since the beginning of time, with documentation that the Egyptians would carry out this therapy using hollow bamboo! You will hear phrases such as enemas, open systems, closed systems, colema boards, coffee enemas, so to be clear I am talking about a closed system of colonics. This is where the patient has a tube inserted into their rectum; there is no force, this tube has two tubes attached one for taking warm filtered water into the bowel and one for taking the waste matter away. The therapist is with you at all times, massaging your tummy to assist elimination, you are lying on your back with knees bent and a sheet over you. It is discreet and a person’s integrity is ensured at all times. The treatment can last from 30 to 45 minutes and the patient has complete control at all times. While initially patients are anxious, normally after 10 minutes on the table with the water circulating the bowel, a heat pack on their tummy starts to make them feel relaxed and the process begins of filling and emptying to promote peristalsis and emptying of the waste matter. At the conclusion of the treatment, the patients spends 5 minutes on the toilet, before leaving to get on with their day, on most occasions feeling clean, re-energised and connected to their wonderful life. PERCEIVED RISKS OF COLONICS I say perceived as all of the risks talked about are unfounded and mostly come from either a misunderstanding of how the bowel works or ignorance. But let’s go through them. LOSING GOOD BACTERIA: Every day when you poo, 70% of this poo is made up of dead cells and bacteria, our body is made to cleanse 24/7.

What we do is make a home for your good bacteria to thrive, if you have a digestive symptom of bloating etc, you have a lack of good bacteria anyway. DEHYDRATING THE BOWEL: Through the process of a closed system of colonics, your bowel is being hydrated throughout the whole treatment, which also hydrates your blood through the blood portal system. This is why people will see improvements with their skin after having a series of colonics. INFLAMING THE BOWEL: We are using pure, filtered water gently soaking into your bowel. STRETCHING THE BOWEL: Your bowel is a muscle that is made to expand and contract, the issue we have is due to the amount of processed food we consume - our bowels are becoming stretched with putrefied matter! MAKING THE BOWEL LAZY: In the process of the colonics that Bottoms Up uses, it teaches the bowel to work again, promoting peristalsis and giving the bowel the opportunity to have a work out. PERFORATION OF BOWEL: We only insert a speculum into the rectum of the bowel that is well lubed and a lot smaller than an average bowel movement. We have a pressure gauge to measure the pressure in the bowel, but we can tell by the look on your face, you have complete control of the treatment. Sometimes people get this confused with colonoscopies, which do carry a risk of perforation. LOSING ELECTROLYTES: If you see what I see every day for 9 hrs every day for the last 8 years from people from 5 to 95 years of age, you would soon come to understand for your body to absorb any nutrient it has to be rid of the putrefied matter to even start to absorb electrolytes.

Bowel Cancer - we all hear about breast or prostate cancer but did you know that after lung cancer, bowel cancer is the most common yet the most preventable through diet and exercise.

(even in rugged conditions) There are several hearing aids that can be worn safely in all environments, including on mine sites, in construction and farming. People with a hearing impairment who work in very harsh environments such as mine sites, construction or on farms often use the excuse that their working conditions are not conducive to hearing aid use. In the past this may have been true, but modern technology is now available for those working in the toughest of environments. Devices are now on the market that are waterproof, dustproof, sweatproof, and shockproof and can be used in the most rugged conditions without harming the hearing aids or causing them to malfunction. There are two types of dustproof/

waterproof hearing aid ratings: the IP68 rating, which is dustproof and waterproof to the point that they can be worn swimming underwater, and the IP67 rating, which is dustproof and waterproof but is not classified to be worn underwater. All the IP67/IP68 devices sit on top of the ear and the first generation released last year were quite large at about two inches long. But recently one manufacturer released an IP67 aid, which is about three-quarters of an inch, making it one of the smallest hearing aids on the market. For those who are unable to wear hearing aids that sit over the ears, there are several deep canal styles that can also be worn in all environments safely. Probably the most conducive device to the harsher environments is the implantable

Lyric, which sits deep in the ear canal beyond the sweat glands and away from the dust and wind noise that traditional hearing aids suffer from. Earmuffs can be worn over the top without feedback, but the Lyric still amplifies so you can hear whatever sound comes through. Another deep canal option is IIC (Invisible-In-the-Canal) hearing aids. They do not sit as deep as the Lyric and are not worn permanently, but they do sit far enough to be out of the wind and dust. There are also models available that can be set up so they automatically go into a mute mode when background noise reaches dangerous levels. The hearing aid then acts as an earplug, conveniently saving the wearer from having to remove and insert one.

24/7 Hassle-Free Hearing

GRANT COLLINS Audiologist – Clarity Hearing Solutions

Most hearing aids are now Bluetooth-compatible and can be paired with any audio device such as a UHF radio, mobile, satellite phone, radio or TV. This is very useful for many of our patients who work on heavy machinery, which is not sound-proofed, and have to wear hearing protection, but still need to hear the UHF radio or site radio. With Bluetooth technology, the UHF radio is streamed wirelessly directly to the hearing aids worn under the earmuffs. Our patients hear the UHF or radio clearly, yet their hearing is still protected by the earmuffs. What’s more if they step outside a cab or away from the UHF, these can still be heard within 20m of the UHF radio.
