WELCOME TO NORTH QUEENSLAND THE HEART OF THE GREAT BARRIER REEF
A
wash with sparkling beaches, vibrant cities and more than 300 annual sunshine hours, Queensland, known as the sunshine state, is truly where Australia shines.
With an area of 1,727,000 square kilometres, Queensland is the second largest state in Australia and is five times larger than the United Kingdom! It’s easy to see why the vast inland savannah and endless ribbon of coastline provides visitors with experiences like no other on earth and why it’s not difficult to find your own quiet piece of paradise. Stretching more than 2,300km, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on the planet, the only one big enough to be seen from outer space. It extends over 14 degrees of latitude, from shallow estuarine areas to deep oceanic waters, giving it a vast and complex natural ecosystem.
ALL INCLUDED SNORKELLING & DIVE GEAR STINGER SUITS | LUNCH MORNING & AFTERNOON TEA MAXIMUM 30 PASSENGERS COURTESY TRANSFER DEPARTS 7.45AM RETURNS APPROX 4-4.30PM
The Great Barrier Reef parallels the Queensland Coast and is accessible from most destinations. At its heart is the Whitsundays, A string of tropical islands dotted along an idyllic stretch of paradise. The Whitsunday islands are world famous for the luxurious resorts which lay upon them, the azure water which surrounds them as well as the pure white silica sand of Whitehaven Beach and iconic Heart Reef. The gateway to the Whitsunday Islands is Airlie Beach, a backpacking nirvana filled with palm-fringed beaches, waterfront parks and alfresco dining restaurants. It is the epitome of the chilled-out Australian beach lifestyle, a blend of fun in the sun followed by an entertaining night scene. South of the Whitsundays, venture to a place where nature comes naturally. The Mackay region is home to quiet beaches, lesser-known tropical islands and Queensland’s only blue river, the Pioneer. It is one of Australia’s best fishing locations with a selection of tidal creeks, inland dams, mangrove systems and deep-water reefs providing a plethora of fish to hook.

dingo While normally you would be advised to stay away from a dingo, at Billabong you have the chance to get up close and say hello to our three trained dingoes. You can even sit next to one, get your photo and have a pat. King, Killari and Allira have been with Billabong Sanctuary for over five years and have been an integral and popular part of the sanctuary’s displays and shows. King is the ‘typical’ rust coloured dingo that most people are familiar with. However Killari and Allira, who are sisters, are the rarer white coloration and people are always amazed at how soft their fur is! Dingoes are one of Australia’s most controversial and misunderstood animals. Billabong Sanctuary not only provides the opportunity to interact with a dingo in a safe environment, but also provides education about these amazing animals and the vital role that they play in Australian ecosystems. Dingoes prey on animals such as kangaroos and wallabies and help keep their populations healthy and their numbers in check.
DID YOU KNOW?
Crocodiles have the strongest bite force of any animal in the world, even beating a great white shark.
Billabong Sanctuary Waltzing Matilda is about as Australian as it gets and, to experience an array of wildlife by an Aussie Billabong, take a walk on the wild side at Townsville’s Billabong Sanctuary. Australia’s native animals are as weird and wonderful as they come. From the cuddly koala to the bounding kangaroo, Billabong Sanctuary lets you get up close and personal to your favourite furry, feathered and scaly friends. Billabong Sanctuary is based around three habitats; eucalypt forest, rainforest and wetlands, with a large billabong at its heart. Wetland birds come and go from the sanctuary as they please and, as you take a stroll around the lapping edge of the billabong, keep an eye out for the friendly turtles who greet you at the water’s edge. Whether you visit morning or afternoon, there are always guided shows and interactive opportunities to touch or feed many of the sanctuary’s inhabitants. If you leave Airlie Beach after breakfast and head north to Townsville, you will not miss any of the experiences as there is a 1 p.m. as well as a 3:15 p.m. crocodile feeding and also the opportunity to hold a koala both morning at 11:15 a.m. and afternoon at 4 p.m. Billabong Sanctuary is Australia’s best interactive wildlife experience! At wildlife encounters, you can pat a dingo, hand-feed a cassowary, hold a koala or hug a wombat. Get a souvenir photo for a small fee, or use your own camera. There is no charge for wrapping a python around your neck, holding a lizard or holding a small crocodile.
Dingoes also play an important role in keeping down the number of feral animals such as rabbits, cats, goats and foxes.
At the all-inclusive wildlife talks, you will learn about the ecology, the habits and unusual characteristics of Australia’s unique animals. Each ranger is passionate about the welfare of the animals at the sanctuary. Their care and devotion is evident in the presentations they give.
Dingoes are renowned for their intelligence, agility and ability to survive in the toughest of conditions. Dingoes can be found in environments ranging from cold alpine regions, to tropical rainforests and deserts. They have characteristics of both wolves and dogs and, like wolves, they form family based packs and howl to communicate. However like dogs they can form strong bonds with humans.
They pass on valuable information about how to stay safe in the wild in North Queensland and also inform you on many misconceptions people may have about different animals.
For morning visitors, the three dingoes are walked around the park at 11:30am with the opportunity for everyone to have a pat while the dingo show is on at 2:30pm and following the presentation by the rangers the dingoes are brought out to meet their audience, but watch out - you might just get a friendly lick on the cheek!
One of the most misunderstood native animals in Australia is the dingo. See a different side to this magnificent creature and then pose for a photo and pat the friendly dingoes. Billabong Sanctuary has 2 star attractions when it comes to crocodiles. Bully who is the larger of the two weighing in at 750 kgs and measuring 5m in length. Bully arrived at Billabong Sanctuary in 2013 trapped at Halifax, north of Innisfail and due to his weight, his crate had to be transferred into his enclosure by crane. Then there is Jupiter, who is a whopping 500 kgs and 4.3m in length. Jupiter was caught off Townsville’s Strand beach in early February 2016. Estimated at 60 years of age, Jupiter has battle scars down the side of his body from confrontations with other large crocodiles. Make a day of it at Billabong Sanctuary by enjoying a coffee and meal from Blinky Bill Café or bring your own supplies to enjoy a barbecue beside the tropically landscaped pool.

THINGS TO DO Magnetic Island is a small tropical island a short twenty-minute ferry ride off the coast of Townsville. It is only 8km long and boasts a natural wonderland populated by rainforests and secluded bays all linked by wonderfully winding scenic roads. The island is 70% national park with four-wheel drive tracks and walking trails, perfect for people who love the outdoors and nature at its most untouched. It is a stunning natural paradise with a relaxing tropical lifestyle. Just over 2000 people live on the island all year round and they are welcoming to everyone, always happy to stop and have a chat HISTORY Magnetic Island is called Yunbenun by the Wulgurukaba people who are the Traditional Aboriginal Owners of the island and lived there for thousands of years. In 1770, Captain James Cook sailed passed on his ship, the Endeavour, and, while he was there, his compass was affected by a strange magnetic force on the island which is why it is now called ‘Magnetic Island’.
MUST DO
GEOGRAPHY Magnetic Island was part of the Australian mainland until 7500 years ago when sea levels rose cutting it off. The island is composed mostly of granite, the result of a volcanic force that pushed molten rock up to the earth’s surface 275 million years ago. Much of the volcanic rock has eroded away, however, the underlying granite has decomposed into fault lines and created the distinctive granite boulders and rocky headlands we see today. The island is famed for its untouched natural beauty. There are 23 bays and beaches, some of which are only accessible by foot or boat. Mount Cook is the highest point on the island and it is fringed by magnificently tangled rainforest jungle, vine forests, eucalypt woods and emerald green hoop pine trees.
Snorkel a shipwreck on Magnetic Island Snorkel or dive “The Moltke”, an old cargo ship which sunk close to the shore on Magnetic Island. The broken structure is home to an array of colourful marine life, making it a picturesque and easily accessible dive site. Follow the Geoffrey Bay snorkel trail to other interesting snorkelling locations.

THINGS TO DO Magnetic Island bays of plenty
Arthur Bay This bay is a well-known snorkel spot with a fringing reef on the left hand side out towards the point. On the right hand side of the bay there are some fascinating caves which protect a large variety of fish and are often teaming with marine life.
Horseshoe Bay The largest bay on the island, Horseshoe Bay is the main tourist hub. The bay itself is open and wide with a stinger net for swimming safely during stinger season, which goes from November to April. There are also floodlights at night if you fancy a midnight swim! This location has a selection of bars and restaurants making it the ideal spot to enjoy lunch or dinner.
Geoffrey Bay This area is the old Arcadia ferry landing where the are fish friendly and almost tame. It is a National Park Zone so it is worth noting fishing or removing anything from the beach is forbidden. If you are there at dusk you might be lucky enough to see the rock wallabies.
Picnic Bay Picnic Bay has one of the most picturesque coastlines on the island with a long jetty jutting out to sea. This is a great spot to stop for lunch at the Picnic Bay Pub.
Radical Bay Accessible by 4 wheel drive only, Radical Bay is at the beginning of Forts Walk. A secluded, remote and peaceful bay with quick access to the forts and old gun placements built in World War ll.
Nelly Bay A bustling area, Nelly Bay is also the island’s ferry terminal and small commercial hub. Some of the largest hotels are located here and the bay offers swimming, wind-surfing, sailing or snorkeling on the fringing reef. Towards the northern end of the beach is a sheltered, coin-operated Barbeque area and a children's playground.
Balding Bay This secluded bay is only accessible by boat or walking track. If you opt to walk you can start from either Radical or Horseshoe Bay. Visiting Balding Bay feels like your private getaway so be sure to bring a picnic and enough water to sustain you for the whole journey.

Sleep in The
Koala’s Playground Magnetic Island’s Best Budget Option, Bungalow Bay Koala Village YHA and Koala Park
IS CUDDLING A KOALA HIGH UP ON YOUR AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURE BUCKET-LIST? It’s little wonder, these cute and iconic marsupials are one of the most popular animals on the planet, but completely unique to Australia. It often surprises visitors to learn, that there are only three states in Australia where you are allowed to cuddle a koala; Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. So make the most of your Queensland adventure by placing Bungalow Bay Koala Village on Magnetic Island at the top of your must-do destination list. Renowned for popular animal experiences, Bungalow Bay Koala Village is the ONLY resort in Australia that has its own onsite wildlife park. Not only can you cuddle a koala, but the wildlife park provides ample opportunity for many hands-on wildlife experiences; including holding a big python (snake), holding a baby saltwater crocodile, holding big lizards, turtles and even feeding large parrots from your own lips. Koality Fact: Koalas have two thumbs on each hand for gripping when holding food and climbing – and for holding on tight when you are getting a koala cuddle! Koality fact: Despite commonly being called ‘koala bears’ they aren’t a bear! Koalas are a marsupial. 200 years ago, European settlers had never seen a marsupial and did not know about pouched animals, like the kangaroo. The bear was the closet mammal the koala looked like.

CONQUER YOUR FEAR Snakes, crocodiles and lizards. They aren’t everyone’s cup of tea! However, the more you know about animals that scare you, the more you can put your fears to rest. Bungalow Bay Koala Park is the ideal place to face your fear and do it anyway. There are three daily wildlife presentations, where in-house guests, day visitors and island residents have the opportunity to learn all about the unique Aussie animals of Magnetic Island, through an interpretative and hands-on approach. The tour with knowledgeable rangers lasts approximately two hours and is within the wildlife park. Drape a python over your shoulders and feel the unique scales of a native snake as it moves in your hands. Hold a juvenile crocodile and touch its prehistoric skin and get up-close-and-personal with a cheeky tropical parrot as you feed it seeds from your hand – or lips! All animal experiences within the koala village are free of charge, (included in your entry fee) – Additional option to have a koala experience photo, cuddling in next to our koalas. SLEEP ON THE REEF The Great Barrier Reef is a dream destination for people from all over the world. And understandably so. The expansive reef system is home to a diverse kaleidoscope of underwater colour and wonder. Located in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Magnetic Island’s golden beaches, coral reef, diverse wildlife and accommodation choices to suit any budget make this tropical island so enticing. Bungalow Bay Koala Village has a range of accommodation to suit every traveller; from camping sites to A-frame double and twin bungalows. Hosted by rangers you will not only get the chance to meet the resident koala’s, you will take away an educational experience that will make a difference. Hosted three mornings per week between 8.30 to 10am on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday morning you will enjoy a gourmet breakfast with a twist. Hang out with “Hagrid” and learn about his story, a rescue koala that now calls the village home. STAY AND PLAY AT BUNGALOW BAY KOALA VILLAGE Bungalow Bay’s open-air Deck Bar is a great place to relax and grab a pizza. Lay back in a hammock, relax on a beanbag and enjoy meeting and mingling with people from all over the world with a cold beverage in hand. The nearby pool and spa is a great place to relax after walking one of the nature tracks. Koality Fact: Magnetic Island is also one of the best places in Australia to spot a koala in the wild. Australia’s most northerly wild population of koala’s can be found in the surrounds with more than 800 koalas calling Magnetic Island home. Bungalow Bay is a great place to base yourself to experience all Magnetic Island has to offer. The friendly team know the island’s secrets intimately. This impressive renovation includes 12 luxury Reefsleep beds hosting 24 guests in a glamping-style experience under the stars. swift and comfortable experience with sensational views of the Whitsunday Islands as you cruise by. During the three hour journey to the outer Great Barrier Reef guests can enjoy watching the land slip away as the sparkling Coral Sea begins to dominate the horizon and the remoteness of your encounter begins. Enjoy a tea/coffee and morning tea. The first of many meals that will keep you sustained throughout your journey. Then, prepare for your arrival at the pontoon with educational talks from the crew offering lively and entertaining instructions on how to snorkel and navigate the reef system to best view the magical underwater world that awaits. If you hear some ‘Darth Vader’ like sounds, do not be alarmed; this is just the hilarious yet incredibly informative scuba dive demonstration beginning. The scuba crew enters the main deck lounge dressed in full scuba dive gear to show guests exactly how to breathe and use the equipment. Hello Reefworld
Good Morning Cruise
During the first part of the day you will share the pontoon with day-passengers who will begin their return to the mainland just after lunch.
Your journey begins with a fast ferry ride out to the reef. This modern, air-conditioned vessel is a

serene coral gardens and watch the colourful underwater world come to life or enjoy a semisubmarine guided tour, which traverses the reef and gives you the opportunity to see under water without getting wet. This glass-bottom submarine holds up to 30 people and is hosted by the onboard Master Reef Guides and Marine Biologists. There are also a host of optional activities such as guided snorkeling safaris, scuba-diving and heli-scenic flights which are all available at an additional cost. Afternoon Serenity As the day passengers embark on their journey home to the mainland, 28 lucky Reefsleepers and up to 13 crew remain on the pontoon. At 39 nautical miles from land there is nothing but each other and the majestic natural wonder of the Great Barrier Reef for company. Relax on the loungers or gather at the hightables to enjoy a cocktail freshly prepared by one of the skilled bar-tendering crew. Use some of the afternoon to head back down under the water and experience the remote beauty of your surrounds. Often, it is these quiet moments when majestic sea turtles glide by. Back on board, as the afternoon sun starts to fade, guests and crew gather together as sumptuous scents emanate from the pontoon’s commercial grade kitchen and the evening’s excitement begins.
Life Of Reefsleep
A Stationary Sunset Cruise
In my role I’m very lucky to have, what I think is, one of the best jobs in the world! I spend the majority of my time out on our different tours, admiring the spectacular views of the swirling sands on Whitehaven Beach or embracing the adrenaline of the rushing winds on the Camira
There is no need to set sail, you are already at sea! Become mesmerised by the 360 degree view of the horizon as clouds scatter low and the sun casts orange and purple beams across the sky. Watch every imaginable colour shine bright and then gently fade as the sun retreats below the sea line.
Sailing Adventure. The highlight of my week, however, is the opportunity to visit Reefworld.
At the same time, your crew will bring out canapes to whet your appetite and encourage a social atmosphere.
Unlike any other experience I have managed in my career, Reefworld plays home to 28 lucky guests every night who have the once in the lifetime opportunity to sleep on top of one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Then, as the night envelopes the pontoon, guests gather for a magical feast under the stars with a banquet prepared by the on-board chef.
What magical marine life do you see when the day passengers have gone home?
Good-Night Cruise
Recently one of my late afternoon scuba dives was joined by a turtle who swam alongside me for a few minutes which was a memory that will last my lifetime. There is also spectacular marine life with Trevally, Coral Trout, Snapper and a host of smaller marine life as well as Giant Maori Wrasse and a two metre long Giant Queensland Groper.
After dinner guests can enjoy another drink at one of the two the on-board bars and take themselves to a quiet corner for a breath-stopping star-gazing experience they will remember forever. REEFWORLD FACILITIES • 12 luxury Reefsleep beds

Meet Kurt Hartmann Cruise Whitsundays’ Guest Experience Manager
Reefworld first thing in the morning is one of the most tranquil places I’ve ever come across, you awake to the sounds of waves lapping gently on the side of the pontoon and the occasional school of fish jumping out of the water.

The following morning, as your eyes open to greet a new day, witness the Great Barrier Reef come to life. You will be one of the few people in the world to have the privilege.
Eco-friendly Commitment Cruise Whitsundays works alongside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Authority to ensure Reefworld operates in sustainable and environmentally conscious manner. In fact, Cruise Whitsundays is a key component in one of the largest natural coral transplants ever to be undertaken the Great Barrier Reef. This project saw more than 4000 pieces of coral sustainably removed from old moorings and successfully replanted onto the existing reef wall to rejuvenate the local environment. As part of this, they’ve also established a coral farm to encourage further growth in the area. Cruise Whitsundays’ vision is to embrace the sustainable and environmentally conscious way of life by continuing to provide a hub for education, accurate reef knowledge and conservation guidance at the Reefworld pontoon.

ROSE BAY RESORT, BOWEN
T
here is a feeling of seclusion and intimacy at Rose Bay Resort that leaves a special place in your heart. Located in the quiet holiday town of Bowen at the northern end of the Whitsunday Islands, Rose Bay Resort is a little nook of paradise with no passing traffic and ultimate serenity. In fitting with this, Rose Bay Resort has a relaxed, casual atmosphere and charming ambiance. With its absolute beachfront location and uninterrupted views across the pristine bay and out towards the Coral Sea, the resort is a unique and truly special place to holiday. AWARD WINNING ACCOMMODATION Winner of several Tourism Awards, Rose Bay Resort offers a variety of selfcontained accommodation options. This includes two- bedroom penthouses, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and one-bedroom studios. The accommodation is spotlessly clean with well-maintained appliances and a homely feel. Our one bedroom apartment was fitted with a full-kitchen, modern appliances and tea and coffee making facilities. In addition, the bathroom had a large shower with a separate bath tub for a long leisurely soak after the days activities. Downstairs, the landscaped gardens lead directly to the beach and also the resort’s swimming-pool. These areas are charming and well-maintained. STUNNING SURROUNDINGS The peace and tranquillity of Rose Bay Resort means we could do as little as we like but also venture off on quiet walks in nature. Rose Bay offers some of the most untouched coral reef in the region. It is a place where turtles hatch, possums play, dolphins dally, coloured crays are caught, and whales can be watched in the winter months. A SUNRISE SPECTACULAR The easterly facing aspect of the resort provides guests with the most sensational start to their day, a spectacular sunrise streaming across the resort’s private bay.

Montes Reef Resort At Peace With Nature Where is the resort located?
What kind of facilities are there?
Renowned for its serene seclusion, Montes is an idyllic holiday destination located via Hideaway Bay at Gloucester Passage. It has an all-tide sandy beach with a northerly aspect overlooking the panorama across Edgecombe Bay. Despite its remoteness, Montes is an easy 45 minute drive north of Airlie Beach and a one hour drive south of Bowen, accessible in any vehicle.
Each beachside bungalow is self-contained with a fully-equipped kitchen and a bbq on the porch. There is also an on-site restaurant serving tropical cocktails, cold drinks, fresh seafood and more. Finding a comfortable nook is easy, choose a sun-lounger by the beach, swing on a hammock by a tree or laze on a cushioned day bed.
Why choose to stay here?
The bungalows are private and spacious with air-conditioning throughout. There is an indoor and outdoor shower, T.V., sofa and dining table.
Montes is an iconic natural paradise which was established in the early 1970’s when access was only available by sea and it became a regular anchorage point for yachties travelling the Whitsundays to the north. With eight absolute waterfront beach bungalows, the gently lapping Coral Sea is literally ten paces from your front door. Manicured lawns run the length of the resort which is connected by a beachside footpath. Sit on your porch and watch nature at its most innocent, pick-up a paddle-board or kayak and head out into the bay or simply bathe in the cool tranquil waters to spot a green turtle. Whales and dolphins can also be seen during the winter months. This is your opportunity to switch-off from the world and immerse yourself in supreme natural beauty.
What is the accommodation like?
Surrounded by stunning natural beauty, Montes is at peace with its environment. The simplicity of nature is part of its charm, watching the sunset from your porch followed by the sky transitioning into a spray of scintillating stars is the true magic of this amazing location.
Would you stay here again? I would love to return and perhaps stay for a whole week next time! When we arrived, it felt like we had been transported to another world, far away from the distractions of modern life. A feeling of instant relaxation washed over us and witnessing the most incredible sunset after a day swimming and exploring left us with a brilliant glow inside and out.

Providence V is a classic gaff-rigged schooner, offering both day and sunset sails. Your experience starts from the moment you step aboard. Whitsundays best, the perfect family and friends holiday home with Awesome accommodation and Amazing Sea and Beach views
WHERE LUXURY ABOUNDS
Those views…
Sublime Coral Sea views with stylish living spaces and stunning facilities, Crusoe’s Beach House is perfect for family vacations and tropical relaxation.
The rave reviews say it all. Spectacular sea views await from the spacious upper and lower entertainment decks, which are fully equipped to make the most of the panorama. Outdoor relaxation comes complete with a sparkling splash pool, daybed and loungers, shade umbrellas, a lazing hammock and large alfresco dining area.
The ultimate Whitsunday holiday home, Crusoe’s is a stunning tri level, recently refurbished four-bedroom three-bathroom home in Cannonvale, Airlie Beach. It is beautifully decorated throughout to epitomise luxurious tropical living with supreme comfort and elegant design. Where service goes above and beyond… To understand the grandeur of Crusoe’s, you need to know a bit about the owners. Brent and Wendy Robinson put more than 30 years of local real estate knowledge to use and became owner-operators of Crusoe’s after a major refurbishment in 2014. They know what people desire in luxury living, making Crusoe’s the ultimate home-away-from-home. A stay at Crusoe’s includes a personalised meet and greet service including welcome goodies. If you are arriving late, they have the option to grocery shop for you, ensuring provisioning is taken care of so you can relax upon arrival.
Comfortable living for 8 people… With four double bedrooms, tariffs are set for 8 people, however Crusoe’s can accommodate for up to 10 for families upon request. With three bathrooms and separate living areas, many families take advantage of the upstairs downstairs configuration and share costs between two groups. Honeymooners can enjoy the luxury of having an entire house to themselves, or when availability allows, couples can request the upper level only at a discounted rate, still with exclusive and private use of the lower deck and splash pool. Plan your stay to allow for a rainy day… There is a minimum 3-night stay at Crusoe’s,
however most people opt for five or more days, to allow for perfect planning for their Whitsunday island excursions. This means you can plan your most anticipated activities on days with the best weather forecast, and relax in the luxurious surrounds of Crusoe’s when the weather isn’t ideal for islandhopping. Spacious comfort with all the bells and whistles… Seeing is believing. When you enter Crusoe’s Beach House, you are welcomed into large open and airy spaces, beautifully furnished with both comfort and style in mind. The entertainer’s kitchen is a dream with a separate island kitchen bar. Enjoy sea-views from the dining table, or curl up in front of the huge television in the media room. SUNLIT WATERS With sweeping views across the Coral Sea, a hillside infinity pool and easy walking distance to Airlie Beach, Sunlit Waters Studio Apartments enjoys serenity and accessibility with a boutique feel. This quiet location sets a perfect stage for holiday-makers looking to relax and unwind yet still be close to the action when they want to explore. Recently awarded Bronze for Self-Contained Accommodation at the Whitsunday Tourism Awards, these studio apartments are great value for money, exceptionally clean and hosted by two of the nicest people in the Whitsundays! We hear a first-hand experience from a group of ladies visiting the Whitsundays on their annual get away and reunion. They come from Barraba NSW, Manilla NSW and New Zealand. After researching Sunlit Waters online and seeing the outstanding reviews, the three ladies knew they had made the right decision. What did you like most about your stay? The host and hostess’ friendliness and the help they provided with booking our tours. They also the advised us on small day trips to Bowen, Cape Gloucester, Conway Beach ( George’s Dinner) and Sarina to the Sugar Shed. This was such an insight to the area. We also all loved the view from our apartments – it took our breath away!
How were the rooms and what features did you like best? The rooms were very comfortable and the view over the marina and pool were just spectacular, exactly as described by the advertising. The cleanliness was 100% and we just loved the soft towels in the bathrooms! The relaxed friendliness of Sunlit Waters was something we will always remember, plus the three small resident dogs! Tell us a bit about how your hosts made your stay special? Chris and Fiona made our stay so unforgettable from the moment we arrived. Greeting us with happiness, open hospitality and caring natures. Every day they checked on us making sure we had everything we needed. Was it easy to book tours? Yes, Fiona and Chris also have great knowledge of the area suggesting many little day trips so we could explore. Everything was made easy with Fiona suggesting trips that suited our age.
We went on the Great Barrier Reef Tour with Cruise Whitsunday as Fiona explained we did not have to get wet if we did not want to as this tour provided the semi-submersible to see the reef. Fiona also recommended we take the helicopter ride to get the best view on the reef. Our next trip was with Whitehaven Express. Fiona explained it was a family run business and we all liked that idea. We got to see the incredible Hill Inlet and had an amazing BBQ lunch on the beach. This company also had the glass bottom boat for viewing the coral. Would you recommend Sunlit Waters to a friend? Yes, definitely. The ambience, personal service and comfort were all first-class! We will be back.

If you’re looking for some weekend adventures set amongst a pristine natural paradise, The Mackay Region offers an array of drive time gems.
TOSCANA VILLAGE RESORT
Rich in natural beauty, the area’s diversity sets the scene for some spectacular day and overnight drives from Mackay, where you’ll come back feeling as though you’ve just experienced a holiday in your own backyard.
Eungella and Finch Hatton Head 90 km west and up the Clarke Range to the ‘land of the clouds’. Truly a stand-out experience, Eungella offers rainforest serenity, superb views, walking trails and wildlife. Keep an eye out for the famous platypus at the Broken River viewing platform. For the avid birdwatchers, you may be lucky to see the Eungella Honeyeater, Mackay’s only endemic bird species. Camp or get cosy in a cabin. For a shorter day trip take an invigorating plunge at the beautiful Finch Hatton Gorge waterfalls. Stop for a meal and cold drink in the Pioneer Valley on your way back.
Nebo Head inland on the Peak Downs Highway to Nebo and the Isaac region. The area is full of historical artefacts, showcasing the region’s rich gold mining history that took place in the 1800s. For a road less travelled, try the scenic back roads from Eungella, via Mount Britton and Lake Elphinstone (check conditions). Cattle, agriculture and mining have all made their mark here and the heritage-listed hotel is well worth the trip.

Lambert’s Beach and Northern Beaches Just 15 minutes from the CBD, Mackay’s northern beaches are a secret worth keeping. Eimeo, Bucasia, Blacks Beach and Shoal Point are quite coastal havens each with adequate facilities to spend the day. Stop in at Eimeo’s sheltered bay for a shaded beach trip at any time of the day and enjoy an elevated lunch at a pub with a true view. Closer to the City Centre is the Lambert’s Beach Lookout, with a purpose-built Whale Watching area. Even outside of whale watching season, this lookout is spectacular and offers views of the Cumberland Islands and Slade Point.
