Coasts and landscapes inspire this work that explores colour, texture, composition and the ephemeral qualities of light, from the representational to abstraction. The paintings have surfaces that differ in quality depending on whether they are viewed up close or from a distance and also change with the light within a given space, so the paintings retain a dynamic quality for the viewer. Janine writes: ‘I begin a painting by immersing myself in an environment that inspires me. I often revisit some of these areas at different times of year to see how the changing seasons have affected the quality of light, the colours and textures.’ www.janinephilips.co.uk
