Mel Loses Almost 10 Stone! Local

Melanie Yarwood has always had a big grin and love for life.

Not that long ago she would eat anything and everything she fancied, with at least one takeaway a week. She wasn’t unhealthy in her love of food, not being fond of processed or fried stuff, but her meals were always very pasta/butter heavy, with an emphasis on rich sauces. And then there was the exercise, or lack of it – walking to the car was an effort.

After attempting to go it alone, the now 55 year old Mel joined Kelly Andrew’s Slimming World group that meet in the Saltash Social Club on a Tuesday morning on Jan 2 2019. She has lost a staggering almost 10 stone since then! “I was sceptical at first,” said Mel, “I’m not usually one for joining things, and to be perfectly honest, thought it would be just a room full of whingeing women!

“However I really don’t think I would be where I am without the brilliant group support. I learn something new each week, whether it’s a specific recipe, which supermarket has a good deal, what promotions Slimming World are offering, or listening to Kelly’s expertise. We have a chat and a laugh and it sets me up for the week.

“I gave up smoking and drinking at the same time last year and the improvement in my breathing and weight loss has really spurred me on. I’m out with the dogs for around three hours a day and attend at least one workout class or gym session daily.

“I feel great, both mentally and physically. I have so much more energy, and my world view is consistently positive! Love It!! “The Slimming plan allows you to gain greater understanding of what type of food you are choosing to eat – nothing is not allowed – but that makes it easier to make healthier choices. A typical day would be fat free yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, poached eggs, mushrooms and onions on spinach for lunch, followed by smoked haddock and a selection of veg for dinner. “I cannot recommend both Slimming World and especially Kelly’s group enough – I know it sounds trite, but for me it has been truly life changing.” Kelly Andrew’s group meets on Tuesday’s at Saltash Social Club and has sessions starting at 9.30am, 11.30, 5.30 and 7.30pm.
