guidance to ensure you look absolutely beautiful.

BRIDAL BUZZ ... BRIDAL BUZZ ... Lavender Rose Bridal, The Bridal Studio and Bride! have all recently moved into lovely new premises. In Penryn, Ellen Morgan of Lavender Rose finally managed to secure premises at 40 Lower Market Street that she’d had her eye on for many years. In Helston, Chris Woods of The Bridal Studio is now happily settled in a new shop at 11 Wendron Street and down in Penzance, Linda Foster recently celebrated the 6 year anniversary of Bride! by moving into gorgeous new premises at 30 Cornwall Terrace.

It’s been a great time for new bridal boutiques opening in Cornwall. Over the last few months, four fabulous new shops have opened their doors. The Bridal House of Cornwall in Truro, the White Room in Liskeard, Budeiful Brides in Bude and Lowen Bridal in Launceston.

Bliss Bridal Gowns are now stocking the beautiful Davinci bridal range as well as the sumptuous Sonsie by Vermonia (plus size) collection. They also have bridesmaids’ dresses by Ronald Joyce in store and are currently offering a 20% discount off this range when you buy your wedding dress from Bliss.

County Cream are expanding their range by introducing Flower Girl dresses from Busy B's Bridal to the boutique. These cute dresses are available instore now to try on from age 12 months to 10 years.

New for 2014 : Launching early in the new year, the Wedding Company in Bodmin will be offering Cameron Ross Men’s Suit Hire with modern, shorter-style jackets and matching waistcoats in a new slimmer fit. Available in black and grey with three-piece hire charges from just £64. As a special introductory offer, the Wedding Company will offer free hire on a fifth suit when you hire four suits from them.

Also available from The Wedding Company in Bodmin is the fabulous range from White Rose Bridal. Did you know White Rose offer a complete design change so you can make your dress bespoke and just the way you want it! You can change the fabric and the neckline; you can add buttons or change a zip to a lace-up back fastening (or vice versa). You can add straps and even the shape of the dress. White Rose will also produce a made to measure dress with matching jackets, boleros and veils.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDES COME IN ALL SIZES! There is a bit of dilemma facing bridal boutiques and designers when it comes to creating and stocking bridalwear in larger sizes. In particular, it seems, there is some discrepancy as to when a dress becomes a ‘larger’ size. With the average woman in the UK now a size 16, is it reasonable, therefore, to class anything above this size as ‘large’ or ‘plus size’. And then there is the added problem of what exactly to call the collection without causing offence. At a recent Cornish Brides Show, one of our bridal boutique exhibitors was talking to a lovely looking bride who was there with her Mum and, in complete innocence, the boutique owner mentioned that they had an extensive range of ‘plus size’ dresses in the shop at which point, Mum nearly exploded and demanded to know whether that was an intimation that her daughter was fat! Of course, it wasn’t and therein lies the rub, because if a bride doesn’t come right out and say, I love that dress, but I need it in a larger size, then boutique owners are trying to walk on eggshells. They know by looking at her that the bride is a larger size, but they also recognise the need for tact. Now, as a ‘plus size’ woman myself - as well as being the Editor of Cornish Brides, I feel perfectly well positioned and qualified to comment. The problem is that very few of us want to acknowledge that we are ‘plus size’ because in this day and age, there is such a stigma attached to not being thin. And yet, there is absolutely no reason why every single bride, regardless of her size or shape, should not look beautiful on her wedding day. Many designers do now produce their collections in sizes up to 30 and some have designed collections specifically with the larger bride in mind and they are to be applauded. So whether they describe their collections as ‘plus size’ or ‘for the curvy bride’ or ‘gorgeous with curves’ it doesn’t really matter. During the course of my work, I come across bridal designers and bridal boutiques who simply don’t or won’t cater for larger brides and my advice to any bride who comes across such a business is to treat them with the same levels of disdain, wipe them from your mind and go instead to one of the many lovely bridal boutiques in Cornwall who will welcome you with open arms and do everything in their power to find you the dress of your dreams, regardless of whether it comes in a size 16 or a size 30. At the end of the day, your dress will be beautiful and you will look divine. Embrace your curves and remember that your soon-to-be husband loves you just the way you are.

If you’re looking for a beautiful wedding dress in a larger size, The Wedding Company in Bodmin stock Venus Woman and White Rose Plus dresses, which are designed for the 18+ size bride. They also stock bridesmaids’ dresses in larger sizes so you can try on instore. Bliss Bridal stock the Sonsie Collection by Veromia and Little Anne-Maids stock D’Zage Bridal who supply dresses from size 6-30. Brides-To-Be of Falmouth also stock a range of larger dresses and new bridal boutique, Lowen Bridal in Launceston stock the Gorgeous with Curves collection from Benjamin Roberts.

The mutli-award winning Sonsie Collection by Veromia Bridal demonstates beyond any doubt that bridalwear is beautiful whatever size it comes in.

Sonsie by Veromia : The Designer Jason Jennings has been designing gorgeous bridal, bridesmaid and evening gowns for many years. After graduating from The London School of Fashion in 1995, he went on to gain his BA Honours at Central St Martins in 1997 before starting work with the amazing David Fielden where he stayed for 8 years, honing his talent for designing immaculate gowns. Jason then went on to create his own label, but in 2008, he was enticed to join Veromia as their In-House Designer. With an undisputed passion for design, Jason has come to understand how a woman should look and how she wants to look and he uses this knowledge and experience in his designs, creating a well fitting, sexy yet feminine look for all the labels he designs for. Jason is responsible for creating Veromia’s four times award winning Sonsie Collection with ultimate fit for the curvy, confident bride. Jason felt that most dresses for curvy girls were uninspiring and he determined to create a collection with a great fit and amazing corsetry whilst losing none of the magic of Veromia to flatter the curvier bride, giving a sleeker silhouette and added support.

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. We love this gorgeous gown from White Rose Plus.

bridal buzz ... bridal buzz ... bridal buzz ... bridal buzz ... bridal buzz ... for the beautifully undressed We love it when we come across talented designers, but it is even more gratifying when those designers are based right here in Cornwall. Internationally acclaimed, multi-talented designer, Michelle Blenkinsopp, has designed for many global lingerie brands. She is renowned for her attention to detail and nostalgic approach to design. Combining this with her extensive knowledge, vast experience and devotion to all things lingerie, Michelle has created her own luxury brand, Shell Belle Couture. Her journey began with Voyage, a precious collection of vintage lingerie and slip dresses, inspired by the feminine, timeless and breathtakingly beautiful era that was the 1920s and 30s and of which the brand is now synonymous. Paying homage to this particular era, Shell Belle Couture combines delicate touches and feminine details that have long been forgotten in modern lingerie, with heirloom intricacy from highly skilled machinists creating styles from the finest silks and French Leavers laces. For brides, Michelle has created ‘Wedding Belle’, a gorgeous collection of pieces for ultimate glamour that are perfect for the wedding night and the honeymoon. If you love vintage style and elegance, you’ll love Shell Belle Couture. www.shellbellecouture.com

Bridal Insider Here at Cornish Brides, we come into contact with lots of lovely people who work within the bridal industry, but sometimes it’s nice to delve a little deeper and find out what makes them tick. Little Anne Maids have long been one of our favourite bridal boutiques, but we thought it was about time we got owners, Alan and Anne to ‘spill the beans’ on their business. Here is their story ....

Husband and wife team, Alan and Anne Walker, established Little Anne Maids in April 1995, but in the early days, the company was a bespoke, handmade children's clothing business, a real little cottage industry, designing and making beautiful dresses for little girls, hence the somewhat unusual trading name. Alan and Anne manufactured all the clothes themselves with Anne, a talented seamstress and dressmaker, responsible for the creation of the clothes although Alan played a important role, being fairly nifty on a sewing machine himself - although not, by his own admission, quite up to Anne’s standards - his main role was pattern cutting. A significant part of their range were flower girl and bridesmaids’ dresses and as their designs became more in demand, they started to receive requests to make outfits for adult bridesmaids to match the little ones. Before long, this side of the business grew and Alan and Anne made the decision to concentrate more on this and over a relatively short period of time, they evolved into a bridal shop! The most natural progression with the shop was to fill it full of beautiful bridal gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses and glittering accessories and by 1999, Little Anne Maids Bridal was born. Following their move into lovely new premises in Tuckingmill last year, Little Anne Maids now have a vast collection of 150 bridal gowns from designers such as Annais Bridal, Mia Solano, D'Zage, Hilary Morgan with a new collection, Bellice by Veromia, being added in 2014. The company also pride themselves on a superb collection of stunning plus size gowns with dresses up to size 30 available on the rails for brides to try on. Bridesmaids and Flower Girl dresses by Dessy, Veromia, D'Zage, Linzi Jay and Hilary Morgan are also in stock. The one small regret Alan and Anne have is that unfortunately they just don’t have the time to create any of their own designs anymore, but with Anne’s seamstress skills, every bride is assured of the perfect fit on her day.

In the last couple of years, Little Anne Maids have added a Men's Formal Hire side to the business - so grooms, don’t let the company name fool you; you are very well catered for as well and, in fact, the company now has one of the largest ranges of Men's Formal Hire in Cornwall with a vast and varied range of suits, waistcoats and accessories in stock and in 2014, there are plans to add a bespoke Men's Suit Department. Over the years, Alan and Anne have dressed hundreds of delighted brides and grooms - and they pride themselves on offering a very personal service to all their customers. As Alan told Cornish Brides: ‘What makes the job so interesting is that every single bride is different. They all have their own ideas as to the theme and colour scheme for their big day, so for us, it’s a real mix of individual tastes, passions and personalities. The sheer joy we feel when we see our brides dressed for the day makes it all so worthwhile and what is even more lovely is when our brides send us photographs and thank you cards after the wedding; that can be quite overwhelming sometimes, but so very gratifying and we love it.’ It is clear that for Alan and Anne, Little Anne Maids is not just a business, it's a way of life and they put a lot of themselves into it. Maybe this effort and passion has paid off, because this year Little Anne Maids reached the finals of the Cornish Brides Awards and with such exciting plans in the pipeline for 2014, the future for Little Anne Maids Bridal is looking very bright indeed. www.littleanne-maids.co.uk

Vintage Bridal in Bude Good news for brides-to-be in the Bude area with the recent opening of Budeiful Brides, a stunning, vintage style bridal boutique, in the town. Owner, Emily Rouse, is understandably excited about her new boutique which is stocking a range of exquisite gowns from Mia Solano, Pheonix Gowns and Alexia Designs. With bridesmaids’ dresses from Alexia, gorgeous Flower Girl outfits and a selection of high quality accessories, Budeiful Brides should definitely be on every brides ‘must visit’ list this winter. www.budeifulbrides.co.uk

E L S I A ST YLE Vicky Woods is the owner of The Wedding Company, a classy, family-run bridal boutique in Bodmin. We got the chance to chat with Vicky recently and we asked her for her thoughts on the bridal industry ....

What are brides really looking for? Quite simply, the dress of their dreams, but more often than not, it isn’t the dress they think it will be. What they really want is a shop with good service, great dresses at affordable prices and helpful, knowledgeable staff. They want a relaxed environment, but definitely no hard sell! How have trends changed over the years? There are many subtle trend changes every year, but basic dress shapes are the same. To be honest, no-one is going to reinvent the wedding dress any time soon. How informed are brides? Many brides have no idea how bridal shopping works. For example, we don't have every dress in every size available and it’s highly likely we will need to order the bride’s and bridesmaids’ dresses in the correct size. This is why we would recommend brides place their order no later than six months before the wedding date or even earlier, if possible, to allow for alterations. I would encourage a bride to start looking for her dress about a year in advance.

people with you when choosing your dress because too many opinions can get very confusing. Don't expect to find your dress immediately and never visit more than two bridal boutiques in one day. Definitely leave the children behind and don't make a snap decision on a dress; always go away and think about it first! Who is your favourite bridal designer? Our favourite designer is White Rose. They have fantastic dresses and allow the bride to alter the style of the dress, making each gown completely unique. What do you love most about your job? I love having fun with our brides helping them to find their dress, especially if they had no idea where to start the whole process. How does Cornwall compare to the rest of the UK bridal industry? I think we have some excellent bridal boutiques in Cornwall offering great choice to their brides, but what sets Cornwall apart is the huge diversity of businesses working within the bridal industry that you might not always find elsewhere in the country.

How much assistance do you feel brides require? Every bride is different, but we try to give whatever assistance is required. We always try to encourage our brides to try a variety of styles, making sure they have tried different fabrics, necklines and dress shapes. Sometimes we will suggest a particular dress, especially if it is a style that has been overlooked by the bride.

What do you think makes Cornwall such a special place to get married? Cornwall is a truly fantastic place to get married, the scenery is simply amazing and we have many wonderful and unique companies in the Cornish wedding industry. Anyone getting married down here is extremely lucky and they should take advantage of all the amazing opportunities available to them.

What is the average age of your brides and most popular dress size? Our brides’ ages range from very young and upwards. Our collections are not just aimed at the young bride getting married in church; we also have dresses for destination weddings, register office and civil ceremonies and everything in-between. Sizes vary from zero up to 30 and we have a dedicated plus range in-store for our brides to try on.

Have publications such as Cornish Brides helped your business? Cornish Brides is a fantastic platform to get my business noticed with a great magazine and the best wedding shows in the county. The confirmed bookings and positive leads we receive following each show is phenomenal.

How do budgets vary? Budgets have been hit recently and brides are definitely being a little more cautious about what they spend. We carry a range of dresses starting from £295 up to £1,200. I would say the average wedding dress spend is between £700-£900. What are your top tips for brides? I would tell a bride to be open-minded and be prepared to try on dresses that you perhaps didn't consider. Also, don't bring too many

Do you have any plans for the future you can share with Cornish Brides? The future for The Wedding Company is to continue doing what we do best; which is finding brides their dream dress.

R U O M GLA New Jewellery

New Designer Today’s brides not only want to look beautiful, they want to look glamorous as well. They also want to express their individuality and many now commission bespoke items, designed and created especially for them. Here at CBHQ, we hear a lot about talented bridal designers from all over the world, but it is so refreshing when we come across a designer who is not only hugely talented, but is actually ‘home-grown’ right here in Cornwall.

Loving this new range of jewellery from talented designer, Stephanie Stevens. Steph was born in St. Ives and has lived there all her life, describing her home town as a truly magical place to live and work. Drawing inspiration from the diverse landscapes and golden beaches, Steph works predominantly in silver, gold and freshwater pearls to create beautiful jewellery that would be perfect for a bride on her wedding day.

Jessica Bissell is one such designer. Having studied Art & Design for more than six years, Jess obtained a degree in Theatrical Costume & Make-up in 2009 following which, she worked as a bridal seamstress. In December 2010, she decided to start her own label - Jessicouture creating bridal accessories, millinery and masquerade ball masks. Her work embodies contemporary textiles with historical pattern cutting and whilst remaining conscious of sustainable fashion, she strives to push innovative ideas, breaking boundaries of design, construction and conceptual thinking. Everything Jess creates is entirely crafted by hand, including every flower embellishment and jewellery piece, ensuring meticulous attention to detail which creates scope for bespoke and couture pieces. Jess told Cornish Brides: ‘I believe fashion is one of the ways we identify ourselves as unique individuals in the world. My work allows women and, in particular brides-to-be, the opportunity to live out their fashion dreams and ideals, creating and choosing their own unique styles for their special day or event. My core specialism is corsetry and dress making and it is my intention to grow and expand my business into full bridal gowns.’ www.jessicouture.co.uk

PUT A RING ON IT! How utterly fabulous are these gorgeous engagement rings from award-winning designer, Andrew Geoghegan? Just launched, the new Cannelé collection of rings features brilliant diamonds, rubies and pink sapphires, chocolate diamonds and exquisite sapphires. Surely every fashionista-bride’s dream. www.andrewgeoghegan.com

It has long been a dream of Sam McCleery to open her own bridal boutique and now she has achieved that dream with the opening of Lowen Bridal in Launceston this Autumn. Sam has made a conscious decision to only deal with British based designers, so she is stocking Romantica of Devon, the Tia range from Benjamin Roberts, including the Gorgeous with Curves collection and Crystal Breeze. For shoes and veils, Sam has chosen Rainbow Club and she’s source a selection of tiaras and necklaces from various suppliers. All the stocked ranges are from the designers most current collections and Sam has tried to select styles that suit sizes 8 to 18. She has also tried to keep the prices sensible too, with only a few gowns over £1,000 and most with a £750 or less price tag! Lowen is the Cornish word for ‘happiness’, which is why Sam chose it as her trading name and as she told Cornish Brides: ‘The name reflects my Cornish heritage and getting married is such a happy time for a bride. But I have to confess, it’s also a bit to do with the happiness this shop is bringing me that I hope will pass on to many others over the coming years’. www.lowenbridal.co.uk

BRIDAL SHOP CLOSURE A Cornish Brides Exclusive: Word has just reached us that From This Day Forward bridal boutique in Par will be closing in January. Owner, Laura Parfitt told Cornish Brides it was with a heavy heart that she had taken the difficult decision to close her business due to extreme personal circumstances. “I have had the shop now for three years and have worked with so many lovely brides, but after a lot of thought and soul searching, I have decided that I will not be renewing the lease on the shop when it comes up in February.” Laura has written to her current customers to assure them that all outstanding orders will be honoured and would like to thank them for their kindness, support and understanding. She is now in the process of organising a clearance sale with all dresses being reduced to under £500 (sizes 12-24 in stock). Pink shoes are on sale at £29.99 and there is 30% off all jewellery and accessories. For enquiries, please call Laura on 01726 812114.

the Pen-Downton experience There is little doubt that the Downton phenomenon has taken the country by storm and brides are being swept along on the elegance and romanticism of the era. The Penventon Park Hotel has a certain ‘Downtonesque’ feel about it and, not surprisingly, this is being picked up by brides who are looking for a venue to reflect all the charm and sophistication of the 1920’s. With an experienced team in place to guarantee that everything runs like clockwork and packages to suit every taste and budget, you can be assured of a day to remember, for all the right reasons. It is not difficult to be wowed by the grandeur and opulence of the Penventon Park and if you are looking to recreate your own Downton-style wedding, the Penventon Park could be the perfect venue for such a happy occasion and who knows, it may even make Lady Mary crack a smile! www.penventon.co.uk

tired of them. Then Tegen Jackson, a self-taught photographer from Penzance got in touch and we just couldn’t resist! These images show the fun Tegen and her sister, Teona, had trashing the dress of younger sister, Kerra on Mousehole beach one busy afternoon last summer. Kerra, it seems, was more than happy for her dressed to be trashed and, we’re very happy to report, that sisterly love prevailed long after the paint was dry!

The Old Vicarage at Treleigh an exclusive wedding venue The historic Old Vicarage at Treleigh was built in 1864 and is a beautiful example of the ecclesiastical architecture of the period. The house has retained many of its original features and is a hidden gem within two acres of well-manicured grounds, surrounded by trees. A focal point of the gardens is the koi fish pond with an octagonal Victorian gazebo featuring a green oak and slate roof over its cast iron columns. The gazebo is one of the areas on the property licensed for wedding ceremonies and is accessed over a granite and glass bridge, making it a stunning and unique setting for your marriage to take place. Another exceptional location for your ceremony or your wedding breakfast is the hand crafted oak lantern roofed conservatory with its granite faced walls and travertine floor, making it a truly unique location. Care and attention to detail has gone into creating this stunning wedding venue and the sumptuous bridal suite complete with impressive oak four poster bed and antique furnishings along with beautiful fabrics, make a stay at The Old Vicarage luxurious and comfortable. The rest of the house, which sleeps up to 11, is also decorated and furnished to a similarly high standard in period style having large spacious rooms and a stunning kitchen, just perfect for a pre-wedding get-together around the large kitchen table by the Aga with a coffee.

This exclusive and very private venue offers couples the opportunity to make their wedding unique and exactly the way they want it to be. You and your guests will enjoy exclusive use of the house and grounds for the duration of your stay and if guests are travelling to share your special day, the accommodation available enables them to stay at the house with you. Preparations can be made the day before your wedding followed by dinner or a BBQ with your invited house guests before the big day. The celebrations can continue, albeit at a slower and more relaxed pace, the day following your wedding, allowing you to make the most of your time together. The Old Vicarage can accommodate smaller weddings of up to 30 people in the house for a ceremony and formal sit down wedding breakfast or up to 80 for a less formal buffet style affair. With the addition of a bespoke wedding marquee, that attaches to the conservatory, the venue is able to accommodate up to 100 for a wedding ceremony and reception. For larger gatherings of up to 250, the option for a marquee on the lawns can be arranged. With a range of bespoke packages, friendly service and attention to detail from your hosts Sue and Phil, you can relax and enjoy your special day at truly unique venue, ensuring a celebration to treasure. www.theoldvicaragecornwallweddings.co.uk

the best things in life are free In this age of gadgets and widgets, it’s easy to forget the fun we used to have before the dawn of technology. At Kirsty and Adam’s recent wedding at The Old Vicarage in Treleigh, it was great to see guests of all ages embrace some old fashioned fun and join in the organised garden games. With a vintage theme to the wedding, the games went down a storm, from the sack race - which even the bride’s mum, the vicar and one of the bridesmaid had a go at - to stilts, a coconut shy, and croquet. Take a look at Kirsty and Adam’s album and share the fun of the games. www.theoldvicaragecornwallweddings.co.uk

preserve your memories Some brides like to have their bouquets dried or preserved, which is a lovely idea. But a better idea is to have the leaves or petals from your bouquet made into a stunning piece of jewellery that you really can keep forever. At Silver Memories, they just love to create beautiful jewellery and can turn any element of your wedding bouquet into something you can treasure. Each leaf or petal is coated in up to 25 individual layers of pure silver with each layer drying completely before the next is applied. The piece is then kiln fired and polished and the result is an exact pure silver version of the original leaf or petal which can be made into a necklace, earrings, charm, brooches etc. We think this is a fabulous idea. www.mysilvermemories.co.uk/weddings

Joanne loves thinking up different themes and uses a variety of items to make the corsages, so they can be tailored to suit any wedding theme or colour scheme. LOVE APPLES In ancient Greek mythology, apples were seen as a sign of fertility and were often scattered around a bride on her wedding day, as well as being eaten by the ‘happy couple’ on their wedding night. In some instances, they were thrown at a woman to make her lust after the man who threw them - although surely that would depend on how hard he threw the apple and where, exactly, it hit her!

There are also many old wives’ tales concerning apples. For instance, if you want to determine who you will marry, recite the names of your suitors whilst twisting the stem of an apple. Whoever’s name is on your lips when the stem breaks off is destined to be your true love.

TAKE THE

PLUNGE! Cornish Brides Editor-in-Chief, Janice Robinson, looks back at how things have changed in the bridal industry since the magazine was first established and, more importantly, she looks forward to all the exciting things to come in the year ahead.

There comes a point in all our lives when we have to make some pretty tough decisions and sometimes these decisions can alter the course of our lives. That’s a pretty daunting thought. Deciding to get married is one such decision, you’ve made it and hopefully, the difficult part is now over and you can move on to all the lovely, exciting things to do with the planning of your wedding day and spending the rest of your lives together. Here at Cornish Brides, we’ve made some tough decisions of our own lately, but we are confident that the decisions we’ve made are right for us and, at the same time, are right for you. Cornish Brides is all about the bride (in case you didn’t realise). We are passionate about weddings and we love helping brides-to-be achieve the absolute perfect wedding day. We are about to celebrate our 14 year anniversary and we’ve come a very long way since the magazine was established back in 2000. It seems like a lifetime away and when I look back at those early issues, it really is like taking a walk down memory lane. Sadly, a lot of the businesses we featured in those early days are no more and we’ve lost one or two good friends along the way. But the bridal industry moves at a rapid pace and as one business closes, four more open. We’ve also seen huge changes in the way brides plan their wedding and what they look for from suppliers. Weddings are far more extravagant and the amount of time, energy and money a couple is prepared to spend on their ‘big day’ has increased significantly. We have noticed that brides take on far more responsibility these days with Mum and Dad being more in the background; there to offer help and advice when needed - and, in some cases, financial assistance - but today’s brides really know their own minds, they know what they want and they know where to get it. Wedding Shows, for example, have become big business and here at Cornish Brides, we are incredibly proud - and incredibly pleased - that our own Cornish Brides Shows are widely recognised as the biggest and best bridal events in the county. That didn’t happen overnight and it didn’t happen without a lot of hard work and sleepless nights. We hosted our first show back in 2006 and since then, we have organised and hosted more than 50 bridal shows in Cornwall. We’ve made mistakes along the way and we couldn’t, in all honesty, say that every

single one has been utterly fabulous, but the important thing is that we have learned from our mistakes; we’ve listened to our exhibitors and we’ve listened to you - the brides - and now we can say with absolute certainty and conviction that Cornish Brides Shows are truly amazing. Nowhere else in Cornwall will you find a bridal event that is so well organised, promoted and attended. An event that brings together more than 60 awesome bridal businesses in one place on one day giving brides-to-be the best choices, the best value and the best ideas. And then there is the magazine itself, yes the one you are reading right now. It has grown from a small handbag sized, 32 page publication into a glossy, A4, 132 page magazine that stands proudly against any other bridal magazine on the market today. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that Cornish Brides has an unblemished reputation for quality, originality and creativity. We are known throughout the bridal world - and I do mean world - for being a superior bridal magazine. International designers love to have their collections featured in Cornish Brides and it never fails to amaze us when a designer or bridal business on the other side of the world gets in touch to say they would like to be featured in Cornish Brides. I cannot adequately describe the feeling I get every time that happens. Of course, social media has played a massive part in growing our reputation beyond Cornwall and the UK and you only have to look at the Cornish Brides Facebook Page with its 5,136 ‘likes’ (I did check that number before I wrote it, but it may well have gone up by the time you are reading this) to see that when we post anything on our Facebook Page, it is seen and read by a massive worldwide audience. But predominantly, Cornish Brides is about just that - brides who are from or getting married right here in Cornwall. It’s just that we recognise with social media and today’s technology, the world is a far smaller place and as we’ve already established, brides today are more knowing and demanding. For that reason, we will always scour the globe to bring you ideas and inspiration and whether you go out into the world to get what you want or whether you take the seed of an idea that we have sown and then adapt it to fit with your Cornish dream, that is your choice and we will never limit your choices or restrict your imagination.

So, what about these big decisions we’ve made of late. Well, let me enlighten you. Earlier this year, we moved into new offices - lovely offices on the Truro Business Park. We had simply outgrown our old premises and we knew that things were changing for Cornish Brides for the better, I hasten to add - and we wanted to be ready and able to meet the new challenges head-on. We love our new home, it’s bright, it’s airy and spacious and it fits really well with everything that we are doing now and intend to do in the future. We then decided to expand our team, so we created the position of Communications Manager and Neill Mabbott stepped aptly into the role in April - you may have already read his regular Social Media feature on pages 50-51. Neill is responsible for raising the awareness of Cornish Brides and everything we do and he’s doing it very well. So then we looked at our wedding fairs and decided that it must be really confusing for brides-to-be and bridal businesses to know which fairs were the best to attend or exhibit at - there were (and still are) just so many taking place throughout the year. We thought we should make it simple for everyone concerned, so we re-branded our fairs as Cornish Brides Shows and made Kingsley Village our permanent home so now there is no confusion. Everyone knows that if there is one bridal event worth attending, then it is a Cornish Brides Show - simple - job done? Not quite, because then we decided to take a look at the magazine as well. Many of you will already know that at the end of 2010, we made the decision to increase the size of Cornish Brides to A4 and to increase the number of issues from 2 to 3 per year. We have enjoyed three hugely successful years since we made those changes, but we thought it was perhaps time to move up another gear and so we present the new, improved Cornish Brides. We’ve stripped the magazine back to basics, given it a fresh new look, improved the quality of the paper, added another 16 pages and introduced a whole range of new features, which will grow and develop over the next 12 months. Oh yes, and did I mention that we have also now gone up to FOUR issues a year? Yep, that’s right, in the space of just three short years, Cornish Brides has leapt from a twice-a-year A5 publication to a quarterly A4 magazine with 4 times as many pages! And the best news of all for brides-to-be is that everything we produce for you is absolutely free of charge. You will never be asked to pay a penny for Cornish Brides magazine; you will never be asked to cough up an admission fee to enter a Cornish Brides Show and because of that, we can truly say that everything we do, we do it for you (OK, that was a bit cheesy, but what more can you expect from a Bryan Adams’ fan). No seriously, our commitment to brides is unparalleled and that

is mainly because we don’t derive any revenue from you personally. We don’t have to try and ‘woo’ you with promises that are easily broken, we don’t need to soft-soap you with jargon in order to get money out of you. We are just here for you, doing our best for you and we trust you to recognise that. It really is that simple. Being the Editor-in-Chief of Cornish Brides is a fabulous job and I wouldn’t swap it for the world. Every day is completely different and I really have no idea when I arrive at the office each morning what the day will bring. All I know is that it will be interesting, exciting and fun and that is fine by me. Over the years, we have been privileged to meet some lovely people and I think it’s fair to say that most people who work in the bridal industry are really nice. It is such a happy industry and there is very little point being involved in it if you don’t like people and love weddings. We really enjoy finding out about the businesses who work within the industry and we really like featuring them in the magazine or having them join us at a Cornish Brides Show and you can be assured that we will continue to work closely with all these businesses and share everything we can with you. So, here we are almost at the end of another year - which is scary enough in itself - do you know where the time goes these days? We are about to embark on a busy, but hugely exciting year and we just can’t wait. The Cornish Brides Show season kicks off on February 2 with another amazing show and the Spring issue of Cornish Brides will be out the previous week, so you can get your complimentary copy at the show. In April, we will be at White Gallery London where, as Media Partners, we will be bringing you the very latest news of the designer collections straight off the catwalk and our Summer issue will follow at the end of April; a ‘bumper’ issue covering all the news and trends from the London shows and that’s just for starters. It’s going to be hectic, it’s going to be a lot of hard work, but it’s going to be so much fun and we would love for you to come along and enjoy the ride with us. If you’re going to be heavily involved in wedding planning in 2014, then make sure that Cornish Brides is right there with you very step of the way with ideas and inspiration from around the world. It’s your wedding and here at Cornish Brides, we understand and recognise that it really is ‘all about the bride’.

Food, Glorious Food The food you serve your guests at your wedding is more important than you perhaps think because your guests will remember it and if it’s not good, they will remember it for all the wrong reasons. THE BEST EXHIBITORS

THE BEST WEDDING SHOWS IN THE SOUTH WEST

If you’re planning your wedding, then make sure you find the time to visit a Cornish Brides Show. There are five every year; in February, May, July, September and November, so there’s never long to wait for the next one to come around. Cornish Brides Shows always take place on a Sunday and are open from 11am until 4pm, giving you plenty of time to browse, chat to more than 60 exhibitors and identify those all important suppliers who you want to work with for your wedding. It doesn’t matter what stage of planning you’re at - you may only just have got engaged, in which case the chances are you haven’t organised anything. That’s fine because a Cornish Brides Show will give you a fantastic idea of what you can expect, so it’s a great place to start your planning without feeling pushed or pressurised into anything. You will get to meet representatives of some of Cornwall’s top hotels and civil venues, so you can make the most important decision of all - when and where the wedding will take place. You’ll then need to book your photographer and there will be plenty to chat to and you’ll be able to choose someone you like and feel comfortable with. Ideally, your dress should be chosen 9-12 months before the wedding, so come and take a look at the huge and diverse range of dresses on display. If you’ve already made all these ‘big’ choices, then a Cornish Brides Show is a ‘must visit’ place to get all the smaller, but no less important, products and services booked; your cars, flowers, cake, entertainment and venue decor and if your wedding is only a matter of months away, then a visit to a Cornish Brides Show is still a good idea for last minute inspiration and ideas and, dare we say it, any little things that you may have overlooked. There’s always a good reason to visit a Cornish Brides Show.

Not only was it a fabulously glorious day, we were also lucky enough to have been given access to the properties owned by St. Mawes Retreats. Moonrakers, Stargazers, Dreamcatchers and Shellseekers are four amazing properties available to rent for romantic retreats and family get-togethers or you could hold your wedding breakfast and reception at one of these spacious, contemporary houses. All have sea views and are equipped with everything you could possibly want for a heavenly stay. Imagine waking up here on the morning of your wedding; enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the terrace before getting ready for your ceremony at a nearby civil venue or church. Return later with your guests to find a sumptuous wedding breakfast has been prepared and is waiting for you. Photos on the terrace, Champagne on the lawn and the rest of the day stretching out before you to enjoy with your new husband, close family and friends. A perfectly wonderful intimate wedding ... yours to enjoy with St. Mawes Retreats. The only problem is ... like us, you just won’t want to leave! www.stmawesretreats.co.uk

PRETTY MAIDS all in a row!

Choosing who you will ask to be your bridesmaids isn’t as easy as it sounds and you could find yourself facing something of a dilemma that will test friendships, tear apart families and jeopardise your sanity. Cornish Brides ‘best friend’, Carley Wetting, takes a lighthearted look at this potentially volatile issue.

You’ve set the date, the church is booked and you’re pretty damn sure that you’ve found the dress of your dreams. So far, so good! The next little nut to crack is who you are going to ask to be your bridesmaids. Easy? Maybe, but then perhaps you just haven’t thought this through yet; afterall, this is a whole new territory. This could be a good time to sit yourself down with a notepad and pen (a glass of wine may also be in order) and make a list of possible contenders. Now if you’re an only child or if your siblings are all male, then the whole sister thing is a non-starter. If you’re a bit of a loaner or a billy-nomates, then again, your choices could be limited, but for the purpose of this article (I mean, why else am I bothering?) let’s assume that you are from a big family with a plethora of sisters, cousins and nieces and you really are Miss Popularity herself when it comes to the whole mates and lifelong friends thing. Some of your friends and relatives will assume that you will ask them; they just will and there’s no getting away from it. One or two may even have gone so far as to announce it to their family and friends and there’s every likelihood that at least one will have gone out looking at dresses - OMG, she may even have chosen her dress! Then there will be those who are privately expecting to be asked, but are playing it down, just in case - and finally, there will be the group who haven’t even dared to dream that you will ask them or who simply don’t want to be asked. Your task, then, is to negotiate your way around this minefield. So have you got that pen and paper ready? Right, the first thing is to write down the names of the people you think are ‘possibles’. Then, cross off any straightaway who, although ‘possibles’, are entirely ‘unsuitables’. Assuming there is anyone left on your list, the next thing to do is look at the relationship you have with each one. How close are you? How well do you know each other? Do you get along? This should help bring the list down further and, with any luck, you should now have the beginnings of a reasonable list of candidates. So, the next question is how many bridesmaids do you actually want? That is 96

Cornish Brides : Winter 2013

quite a significant question because once you have made that decision, you can start to be more methodical about your selection process. Of course, there is that little thing called ‘etiquette’ that might raise its ugly head now and then. For example, should you ask anyone from your bridegroom’s side of the family, a sister or a niece possibly? This is a difficult dilemma and much depends on how well you get on with his family. Some of you will be keen (note I said keen, not desperate) to integrate your two families but that is easier said than done. Bringing two entirely separate families together does not always work and, in many cases, is not even a good idea to start with. Just because you two are in love, does not mean that the rest of his/your family are going to feel the same way about each other and in my experience, most families come together for the duration of the wedding planning and the wedding itself, of course, but once the last dance is over, they go their separate ways and never the ‘twain shall meet (again) despite all the promises to stay in touch. Different people have different ways of doing things and it may be that you have decided that you will choose your bridesmaids from your own family and friends and he will choose his best man and ushers from his family and friends - sounds simple enough to me. But even simplicity has a way of becoming complicated and actually, this reminds me

of a situation a couple of years ago - and I apologise for the slight

then you really do need to choose carefully. If one or all of them need to be able to support you and guide you through the obstacle course that is wedding planning, then they need to have shed-loads of commonsense, bucket-fulls of tact and be completely and utterly unflappable. The last thing you need is to be the one offering the support and guidance and dishing out the words of wisdom and assurances that ‘everything will be alright’. You need bridesmaids

The best advice I can give if you really insist on having bridesmaids is to choose them wisely, choose them for all the right reasons and choose them because you want them there beside you on the day. Above all else, choose bridesmaids who want to be your bridesmaids, because they love you and because they want your wedding day to be the best day of your life.

Most brides take months, even years to research and plan their wedding day to ensure everything is just as they want it. A peek behind the scenes at the elegant Merchants Manor, one of the county’s finest wedding venues, discloses that award-winning head chef, Dale McIntosh, is as particular as any bride when it comes to preparing and selecting the food for a wedding.

Passionate about researching and sourcing the best produce Cornwall can offer his discerning brides, Dale McIntosh has over a decade of experience and a plethora of awards to his name as well as being a Cornwall Catering Challenge winner and runner-up in the Food Magazine South West - Best Local Chef of the Year. Having moved to Cornwall 12 years ago, the quality of the local produce available in the county has helped to make his job easier and with an eye for simple, honest food, Dale has built strong relationships with first-class suppliers. Sourcing beef from Phillip Warrens’ grass fed cows, pork from pig breeders Sally and Bill at Primrose Herd and game from the Tregothnan Estate, all his food is locally sourced and prepared in-house with a focus on exceptional quality and big flavours.

Beef has been slowly cooked the night before on a 16 hour roast, to ensure it is deliciously medium rare throughout.

When it comes to choosing the food you will serve your guests, the best way to get a feel for what is available at Merchants Manor, is to visit Dale and taste his wedding menu creations. Choosing the right food is almost as important as choosing the right dress and it’s important to have someone you can trust to guide you. Just as your mum or best friend can be relied upon to give you their honest opinion at this crucial time, Dale knows what makes a wedding meal special and how to keep guests contented.

The bride may have her something borrowed, something blue, something old and something new, but Dale leaves nothing to chance. “It’s all down to preparation. Your wedding day is special and we are here to ensure that it goes according to your wishes. Nothing is impossible, so we make sure we know what you want and we deliver it on the day.”

So to the day itself. As every brides knows, the morning of a wedding is a special time; it’s when the dream starts to become a reality and in the hotel’s Bridal Suite, the bride sips on a flute of champagne while everyone fusses around her making sure that her hair and makeup is just right before slipping into the perfect dress. Downstairs in the Merchants Manor kitchen, the food undergoes a similar magical transformation with the same degree of attention.

As the day progresses, the bride’s immaculate planning comes together and her guests soak up all the love and energy she has put into creating the perfect day. As the wedding party moves from ceremony to reception, Dale and his team are calm, confident and ready. A huge amount of care goes into the preparation and imaginative presentation of every wedding menu and each meal is personally checked by Dale before it reaches the waiting guests; “I manage the pass; so nothing leaves the kitchen without me seeing it first. All the effort we put in is reflected in the dishes that are served to your guests.”

For Dale and the team at the beautifully restored Merchants Manor, weddings are all about the bride and groom and for anyone who has not yet visited the hotel, Dale describes it as though you are being welcomed into the personal home of owners Nick Rudlin and Sioned Parry-Rudlin. “The level of personal care and attention bestowed upon our guests is second to none and we have impressed every bride we have looked after. We look forward to welcoming many more.”

Personal Travel Adviser, Suzanne Asbury, treats us to

A Taste of the Orient Choosing your honeymoon destination can be difficult as the choice is so vast and varied. Whenever I attend a Cornish Brides Show, I am asked for my recommendations and for me, the Far East is an idyllic honeymoon heaven with an amazing choice of destinations that will surely please any couple as they make their first trip as husband and wife. It is a fusion of climates, cultures and experiences that combine to offer an exotic and unforgetable honeymoon that will live on in your memory forever. Let me share three of the many beautiful countries you could include in your Far East honeymoon itinerary.

Thailand Thailand is a country of contrasts. It is a place you simply have to visit for yourself to experience all the wonders it has to offer. From breathtaking beaches to buzzing cities and peaceful villages, you will discover floating markets and patchwork landscapes of rice paddies, glistening temples and exotic nightlife. The best way to enjoy a Thai honeymoon is to combine a city, such as vibrant Bangkok with one of a fabulous array of islands and resorts, so you get the best of both worlds. Let’s start in Bangkok. Without a doubt, Bangkok is one of the most exciting cities in the world; a cultural phenomenon, shopping paradise and tourist hot-spot. It is one of Asia’s most cosmopolitan cities and home to more than 10 million people. In Bangkok you will find dazzling temples, eclectic markets, glossy malls and famous nightlife. At the heart of Bangkok is the Grand Palace, the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782 and still a working palace today and a visit to Bangkok would not be complete without a visit to this beautiful place. There are many ways to see Bangkok, by public transport, by boat or by way of a frenzied Tuk Tuk ride around the city - just be sure to hold on tight! Bangkok is a 24 hour city and if you haven’t done enough shopping during the day, a trip to a night market is always an option. Patpong Market in the Bang Rak district of the city is popular with tourists; it is vibrant, colourful and loud and it is flanked by nightclubs and bars, it is still a fun place to barter for a bargain, as long as you remember this is a market in Bangkok and not everything you see for sale on the stalls will be the ‘genuine’ article. Bangkok has a fabulous selection of good hotels and getting around the city is easy. It’s a fun place to start your honeymoon, but after a few days, you might well be ready for something a little more sedate and relaxing! So, a few days on a sun-soaked beach might now be in order and Thailand has an amazing selection to choose from. In the clear waters of the Andaman Sea, you will find the jungle-covered hills, rubber plantations and paddy fields of Phuket. Here you will also find spectacular scenery, tropical sunsets and magnificent long white beaches. Whilst the resort of Khao Lak boasts stunning waterfalls, crystal blue waters and a calm relaxing atmosphere that epitomises the beauty and tranquility that southern Thailand is famous for. Over on the east coast, Koh Samui has developed from a popular backpacker’s resort to a trendy up-market destination yet it has retained its laid back atmosphere. There are a number of beautiful crescent shaped dazzling white sandy beaches, aquamarine waters, coconut plantations, tiny fishing villages and ornate Buddhist shrines to explore. About an hour’s flight from Bangkok, you will arrive in Krabi, which offers some of the finest beaches in the whole of Asia with its trademark magnificent limestone rock formations towering about them. It’s a great choice for watersports enthusiasts and also boasts two national parks, waterfalls, mangrove forests and caves. A ferry ride from either Phuket or Krabi will take you to Phi Phi, a stunningly beautiful hideaway, offering dazzling white beaches and amazing underwater coral formations. Breathtaking rock formations and enticing turquoise waters make Krabi a utopia for beach lovers and watersport enthusiasts and the perfect place to wind-down at the end of an amazing honeymoon.

Vietnam may not be the first country that springs to mind when thinking about your honeymoon, but it is stunningly beautiful and has such a lot to offer. Vietnam is a colourful and diverse land where rugged mountains meet lush forests, dense jungles combine with unspoilt beaches and frenetic bicycle-thronged cities merge with peaceful, rustic villages.

Known as ‘The Isle of Gods’, Bali is the best known of all the Indonesian islands and is the perfect destination for couples seeking a truly relaxing and intimate honeymoon. Bali is a sun-kissed, stylish island, blessed with shimmering, palm-fringed sandy beaches; a seamless blend of welcoming culture, intriguing architecture and stunning natural beauty combining to offer the ultimate in tranquility and pleasure. Luxurious hotels offer exceptional service and great cuisine that will ensure the escape of a lifetime. By contrast from the coastal resorts, in the middle of the island you will find rice fields, like giant steps reaching up to the hilltops, Hindu temples and palaces, winding rivers, tropical rainforests and spectacular volcanic mountain ranges.

The capital, Hanoi, is a fascinating city with the fusion of the oriental east and the colonial west. Its famous Old Quarter - with its 36 street - is the reason why Hanoi attracts such attention. Dating back to the 11th century, the area is rich in history, renowned for its stunning architecture and despite the ravishes of the Vietnam War, the Old Quarter has retained much of its original traits and beauty. Visit the markets for souvenirs and watch artisans at work; enjoy the lakes, parks, wide-tree lined bicycle filled boulevards, elegant French colonial mansions and relax at pavement cafés. A cruise along Halong Bay, one of the world’s natural wonders, is a must whilst in Hanoi. This is arguably the most beautiful tourist destination in Vietnam and the bay features more than a thousand limestone karsts (rock formations) and islands of various sizes and shapes dotted along the 120 km coastline of Bai Chay Beach. You could rent a bicycle and explore the tranquil village life in Vietnam or enjoy a leisurely Sampan cruise through rice fields and karsts before heading up to the Perfume Pagoda, where you will find a vast complex of Buddhist shrines and temples built into the limestone hillsides. The central coast and beaches, which are some of the best in the world, overlook magnificent offshore islands and fascinating coral reefs of the South China Sea.

For the ultimate in honeymoon luxury, choose one of the many the Balinese resorts that offer individual villas with a walled garden, private pool and personal chef to prepare romantic moonlight suppers to enjoy together under the stars. Most resort hotels boast superb spas where you can indulge and pamper yourselve or you can just laze on the white sandy beaches and swim at your leisure in the crystal clear waters.

Vietnam also boasts four UNESCO World Heritage sites - all within driving distance of each other. There is the former Imperial City of Hue, the ancient ‘Silk Road’ trading port of Hoi An, the spiritual centre of the Champa Civilisation, My Son and the mystical Phong Nha Caves in Quang Binh Province. Further down the coast you will come to Nha Trang, the coastal capital of Khanh Hoa where you will find pristine, soft white sandy beaches surrounded by warm turquoise waters filled with an abundance of sea life and the best climate in Vietnam with an estimated 250 days of sunshine a year. From Nha Trang, you can sail, enjoy excellent fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving or explore the surrounding countryside with its lush green paddy fields. Vietnam’s largest metropolis and undisputed commercial capital, Ho Chi Minh City, is in the south. Still widely known as Saigon, it is a city of contrasts where elegant hotels, exclusive restaurants and trendy bars mix with roadside noodle stalls, local markets, pagodas and an endless stream of bicycles and motorbikes. Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels - a sprawling network of underground tunnels stretching over 200km from Ho Chi Minh City all the way to the Cambodian border. Take a trip to Cholon, the city’s Chinatown district and discover its eclectic markets and shops and the Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea. Round off your trip to Vietnam with a visit to the Mekong Delta where you will experience authentic Vietnamese life amongst lush green rice paddies and waterways. A honeymoon in Vietnam will not disappoint. GET Y OUR P ARTY A VIDE GOING O GUE WITH S TBOOK AND L KIOSK ET TH E FUN BEGIN ...

Most parties need a bit of a kick start while you wait for your guests to have a few drinks and start to loosen up. But now, you can speed up the process with a unique three-in-one video, photo and karaoke kiosk; a fantastically fun and funky addition to your wedding.

The free-standing kiosk is yours for 24 hours, so it can be set up before the wedding gets underway and will be available to use from the moment your guests arrive until the last one leaves. The screen can be personalised to match your wedding theme and once installed at your venue, the kiosk operates without the need of staff. Guests simply touch the screen to start recording and then touch it again to stop. They can leave you messages of congratulations, they can have their photograph taken and they can even sing to you.

The kiosk will be delivered and set-up at your venue and collected after the wedding when you’ll be provided with an online gallery to view all the video clips which will be edited and supplied to you in DVD format. You can even customise the kiosk if you prefer to simply have it as a video booth or you can add on the photo and karaoke applications. Whatever you choose, you will end up with a fun momento of your special day, although be warned as that party hots up and your guests lose their inhibitions, you just never know what they might say or sing. They just need to remember that after editing, all clips will be uploaded onto your own online gallery for you to share!!

and finally ...

In the last issue of Cornish Brides, we published a poem, ‘Balloon’ by Graeme King. A lot of you, it seems, loved the poem and many of you asked us to publish more in future issues. We thought it would be a nice way to round off this issue - and 2013 - to do just that, so here are two love inspired poems just for you - with love from us xx

TOUCHED BY LOVE Anon I knew that I had been touched by love the very first time I saw you and I felt your warmth and heard your laughter I knew that I had been touched by love when I was hurting deep inside and you came along and made the hurt go away I knew that I had been touched by love when I stopped making plans with my friends and started dreaming dreams with you I knew that I had been touched by love when I suddenly stopped thinking in terms of me and started thinking in terms of we

I never really like writing the last page of Cornish Brides because it means the issue is finished and it always feels a bit like the last day of a holiday; you know you’ve got to go home, but you’ve had such a lovely time that you just don’t want it to be over. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end and on a positive note, there is another issue to start work on within the next week, so onwards and upwards! The next couple of weeks here at CBHQ will be taken up with the Cornish Brides Awards, so it’s going to be a very busy time, culminating in our Grand Awards Ceremony on November 21. It’s a bit like the Oscars, but on a slightly smaller scale and there’s a lot of work to be done to ensure the night is another great success. The Cornish Brides team will be playing host to 120 guests from the bridal industry, including our 48 finalists and invited guests and we are really looking forward to it. We’ll be bringing you a full report in the Spring issue of Cornish Brides, so you won’t miss a thing; it’ll be like you were there with us on the night. And, of course, we’ve got the Christmas and New Year festivities to come as well, with lots of parties to host and attend and before we know it, we’ll be in 2014! Of course, throughout this time, you will be busy with your wedding planning, unless your wedding is coming up before the end of the year, in which case, we send you our very best wishes and hope that you have a simply perfect day. So until next time, we’ll be thinking of you and trust your wedding planning goes well over the next few months. Have a truly magical Christmas and we’ll see you again at the end of January. www.cornishbrides.co.uk

I knew that I had been touched by love when I could no longer make decisions by myself and I had a strong desire to share everything with you I knew that I had been touched by love when we first spent time alone together and I wanted to stay with you forever Because I had never felt this touched by love

WHY MARRIAGE? Mari Nichols Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body ... Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me Who won’t hold them against me Who loves me when I am unlikeable Who sees the child in me, and Who looks for the divine potential of me ... Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night With someone who thanks God for me With someone I feel blessed to hold Because marriage means opportunity To grow in love and friendship ... Because marriage is a discipline To be added to a list of achievements Because marriages do not fail, people fail When they enter into marriage Expecting another to make them whole ... Because knowing this I promise to take full responsibility For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness I create me, I take half the responsibility for my marriage Together we create our marriage ... Because with this understanding The possibilities are limitless
