CORNWALL, Ontario – Mayor Bernadette Clement called for a Special Meeting of Council on Monday, Sept. 16 to address public outcry around a proposed ban of

open air wood fires.

On Monday, Sept. 9 at their regular meeting, Cornwall Council voted by a margin of 8-3 to pass a recommendation from Cornwall Fire Services to cease allowing wood fueled outdoor fires in the City.

This news was met with outcry on social media and at least two petitions began to circulate aimed at getting council to reconsider its decision.

Mayor Bernadette Clement stated that it was a mistake that the public was not consulted before hand about this decision and called the special meeting to discuss how the public could be engaged on this topic.

“I want this to be a conversation between neighbours,” she said. “I want to make sure that this council gets this right. If we are going to make any big decisions, I want to get it right.”

Councillor Carilyne Hébert moved that public open houses be held to receive feedback from the public and to educate the public on the proposed by-law.

The CAO Maureen Adams stated that the public consultations would happen as soon as reasonably possible and that their times and locations would be published in local media.

The by-law that would officially ban outdoor

wood based fires will not be passed until the public has had a chance to give feedback.

One councillor, Dean Hollingsworth, who voted against the original motion, was skeptical of the intent of the public consultations.

“The way that reads to me. We are going to have public meeting and what we’re going to do is we are going to extol the virtues of the proposed by-law,” he said.

Councillor Glen Grant, who voted for the recommendation to end outdoor wood fires stated that public feedback was no guarantee that the outcome would change.

“In this particular case, we don’t want people to think because there is a public meeting there will be a change in direction,” he said. “There has to be overwhelming information for that to change. What I’m hearing from more is the pro-open fires. It is only in the last couple of days that I’ve heard from people who thanked us for what we did.”

Councillor Claude McIntosh was skeptical that those with breathing problems would come out to voice their side of the issue.

Mayor Bernadette Clement was optimistic however was hopeful that new ideas could come from these proposed open houses.

“People may have some practical solutions, but we don’t know that. We have to ask,” she said.

Terry Muir, one community member who was organizing the resistance to the proposed ban was pleased that the City was open to hearing feedback and had some suggestions.

“I think there is still a place for open air burning,” he said. “The by-law is very clear, it must be a small fire with clean, dry wood. You don’t get a lot of smoke with clean, dry wood.

The problem is enforcement and respect.

There should be a provision for those with breathing issues so that there can be exemptions in their areas.”

Muir also suggested that By-Law Enforcement’s hours be expanded to relieve some of the reliance on the fire department for enforcing the by-law.

CCH welcomes 10 new doctors The Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation (CCHF) has also been doing its part to support the hospital through its Adopt a Medical Resident initiative. The initiative, which secured partial funding from the City of Cornwall in the spring, aims to bring two

medical residents to Cornwall per year to work in the Emergency Room. The residents will be committed to work in the community for a further two years.

Thanks to these efforts, the CCH is able to report that all of its Emergency Room shifts

are now covered. In May of this year, the CCH warned that it was experiencing doctor shortages for their Emergency Room.

Akwesasne Elders welcomed back at Walmart NICK SEEBRUCH

CORNWALL, Ontario – Elders from the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) were welcomed back to Cornwall’s Walmart on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019.

The Elders had boycotted the store after an incident in mid-July.

During the incident, that was reported in other media on July 12, the Elders had been the target of derogatory remarks from passers-by while their van was parked in front of the store.

The MCA facility bus that transported the Elders from their residents in Akwesasne to Walmart on that day had had difficulties in dropping off the Elders with their wheelchair lift in the designated area at the front of the store due to there being vehicles in the way.

Once they got into the spot, according to MCA Grand Chief Abram Benedict, they were told by an employee of Walmart that they could not park or drop off their clients there and to

move along. It was at this point that the Elders became targets of profanity by members of the public passing by.

“After that experience, the Elders were quite upset about that and so were the staff and they hadn’t been back to this Walmart here in Cornwall since then,” Benedict said. “Today, all of our members of Council greeted our Elders here at Walmart, they were also greeted by the Manager who extended his apologies to the Elders and to the staff for the incident that occurred about six weeks ago here at Walmart and has committed that they have taken measures to ensure those incidents don’t happen again with staff and vehicles parking there and that they treat all visitors of Walmart with respect.”

Police look for individual in connection with 2018 Montreal Rd. fire

CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Police Service (CPS) is searching for the individual pictured above in relation to a fire that took place on Montreal Rd. and the corner of Alice St. on July 26, 2018.

The fire that occurred that day destroyed three buildings, including the former location of Poirier’s Furniture.

More than 30 people where displaced by the fire, which CPS deemed suspicious.

The heat from the fire was so strong that it melted the siding off of buildings on the other side of the street. There were no injuries reported. Cornwall Fire Services were called to the scene of the fire at around 6:38 p.m.; 27 firefighters responded along with 10 initial fire personnel, two Fire Prevention Officers, a mechanic and a Fire Chief.

This is the first time since the fire was

declared suspicious that the CPS has released any information about the case.

SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – The South Stormont Chamber of Commerce is launching a new, travelling trade show, which will take place across the municipality from Friday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 22.

“We are excited about this event,” said Coordinator Lynn White. “It will benefit all businesses and customers who participate.

We, the Chamber, love how it so perfectly reflects our mission statement: to foster the social and economic well-being of the community.”

SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – Jim Brownell, President of the Lost Villages Historical Society, was blown away by the attendance at the Celtic Concert in Long Sault on Saturday, Sept. 14. “(It’s going) beyond expectations; unbelievable. We are so pleased, the Historical Society and the Grays and Blues of Montreal, we are thrilled,” said Brownell about the event’s organizing bodies. He feels that the promotion for the event on social media contributed to a larger than expected turnout.

Brownell explained that this was the first celtic event hosted by the society in two years, and attendance had more than tripled from about 50 to 175 this year.

“There are other organizations, especially in Glengarry, that stage ceilidhs…we don’t want to be in competition…I think (it would be good) every two years if we do something like this…this is just like, as they said, the old kitchen parties,” said Brownell.

Funds from tickets sales will support the maintenance of the Civil War monument at the Lost Villages Museum, as well as education about the monument. Brownell said that he himself did not know there were 40,000 Canadians who fought in the American Civil War, including individuals from our area. He plans to work towards more education online and hosting informative seminars.

Fires are not banned in Cornwall NICK SEEBRUCH

Let’s make one thing clear, no one in Cornwall is being prevented from having a fire in their backyard. Despite what has been reported on social media again and again, Cornwall City Council did not vote to ban backyard fires.

What Cornwall City Council voted in favour of was a recommendation from Cornwall Fire Services, the gist of which is that wood fires are banned within city limits, but the permit system was also done away with.

There are only 260 permits issued in Cornwall at any given time, in a city of 47,000.

There were also restrictions on who would be eligible for such a permit, one restriction being that the fire pit had to be 20 ft. away from any structure all around.

The reason for this, according to Fire Chief Pierre Voisine is because smoke from wood fires is not easily contained and can spread to neighbouring properties, which has resulted in a high number of complaints his department has to deal with.

In Canada, everyone has a right to property, and no one is allowed to be arbitrarily deprived of property, however, governments are allowed to place certain restrictions on what residents use their property for.

Mayor Bernadette Clement called this, a “good neighbour” resolution. In other words, and I agree, the enjoyment of your property should not hinder your neighbour’s ability to enjoy theirs.

I know that there are those who are very glad that they will not have to close their windows to their homes for the sake of their breathing and health because their neighbour is having a wood fire. The people who are happy about this development though, are of course, much less vocal than those opposed.

The thing I disagreed with the most about this process was the lack of public consultation. The media found out that this was going to be on Council’s agenda just one day before, and that is how most of the public learned about it too.

This should have come out much earlier, or there should have been more time given for the public to express their anger and opinions before this went to a Council decision.

It is good to see that the Mayor recognized this problem, and has moved to create a space where the public can air their grievances.

After the special council meeting they held on Monday, Council decided to hold open houses where the public can come and express their ideas.

“People may have some practical solutions, but we don’t know that. We have to ask,” she said.

Terry Muir, one of the organizers of the opposition to the ban seemed satisfied with this outcome.

“I think there is still a place for open air burning,” he said. “The by-law is very clear, it must be a small fire with clean, dry wood. You don’t get a lot of smoke with clean, dry wood. The problem is enforcement and respect. There should be a provision for those with breathing issues so that there can be exemptions in their areas.”

Cell phone addiction is now an epidemic

Society today is addicted to cell phones and their actions are going to end in a scary result. It does matter where you are now, the cell phone is the master of the mind. It is controlling everyone’s emotions - directing the way we act, what we say, what we do and to react impulsively to things that we have no idea why we are doing it.

Phones are everywhere now with people. Not just in cars, you see it at work-stations, sitting at a table, meetings and even bathrooms. Try walking down the street and the heads of many are looking down and they are texting.

Smartphones are controlling conversation. They have eliminated group meetings.

Socializing of youngsters is almost extinct. It’s all done on a phone with no personal interaction.

People are on the phone, they are addicted to the screen, constantly checking to see if anyone is calling them, liking a photo or updating a profile. Remember when you took an afternoon off to go somewhere or play a round of golf. It used to be 4 hours with no interruptions…now it’s not even 4 minutes BUT we still do not turn off the device.

Some signs that are now present to addiction are restlessness, anger or irritability, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, and craving access to their smartphone or other device. I see it daily.

Three tales from last week…in line at drive through…car ahead the girl is on her phone. every few minutes when she looks up she hits the gas and lunges ahead since she is now two lengths behind. She is so engaged she zips through the order box and only when she gets to window she realizes she never placed an order. So, she paid for the drink I ordered and drove off. The girl in the window was so confused when I told her the order she wanted to give me was not mine. As I left the parking lot the big transport’s delivery kid /driver was pulling skids off while on his phone texting while working. While sitting on a street bench waiting for an appointment, (the bench is near a corner with lights), 6 out of 10 drivers at that light were on their phones.

The waitress, the store clerk - efficiency is less than before as they continue to look at their phones rather than doing their job. Why is it when we are watching the news on TV the 4-6 people behind the speaker of the segment appear to be on their phone…can

they not put them away while doing a update or a political announcement?

The worst is now coming…the opponents against the ban on cell phones in a class room. How can you be against an addiction that causes your kid to be distracted, for the child not to pay full attention…how can he/she not go 90 minutes without being on the phone. Everyone has an excuse. Reality is if the phones are not taken out of the classroom this next generation will not be able to focus, do written math, write with a pen or have a common conversation. It’s a disaster that is started and must be stopped now.

Consider sitting at a table of eight people. In less than a minute someone is on the phone. They have lost focus, missed part of the conversation, are now a million miles away thinking about the last post, the last n\message.

Production will go down in the workforce, health care and education ignorance will go up because the ability to focus and digest any training will be absent.

From 1800 until 1990 people walked over to say hello; you picked up a phone and called for a dinner date, a party or coffee; the neighbor came over every morning for tea, a cookie and a catch-up hour. We went to social gatherings and laughed and talked, the men sat in the back, and smoked a cigar and talked the politics of the day, our city parks were full of kids playing, hockey rinks or swimming pools were full, our street’s had chip trucks that families ran out to get a chip then chat with neighbors, we sent letters because we were so excited to tell someone a good news story, a family update or an unfortunate sad item…but we communicated and had feelings...we were happy and hardworking and did not have an electronic $100 plus a month device on our hip, in our pocket, or on our wrist.

The person on blue tooth talking on hands free…the light turns green...the car behind honks…the driver gives the finger then proceeds…all the time talking not focused on the task at hand. When the inevitable accident happens, it will be everyone’s fault but the real person. When the child fails it will be the Premiers fault for not enough support yet the teacher must contend with constant phone interruption…when small businesses continue to close because new hires cannot focus or work without there fix of **ding,ding*.

Is there a solution? Then tell me.

In 1975 the city was attempting to drum up support for a municipal airport to serve the city and United Counties.

But only Charlottenburgh and Cornwall Township showed any interest, and that came with self-serving strings attached.

Charlottenburgh said it would participate in a joint venture only if the privatelyowned Summerstown Airport was purchased. (It was offered for $1). Cornwall Township said it would not support the Summerstown site. It wanted the airport built at Bonville.

Mayor Gerald Parisien said the Bonville site was better (for the city) but that it would take at least $2 million to develop, while the existing Summerstown Airport could be purchased for $1.

In the end, everyone agreed further study of the proposed municipal airport was needed.

ALSO THIS WEEK IN 1975 - A housing study report warned that to meet a growing population Cornwall needed to built 663 housing units each year over the next several years or it would face an acute housing shortage. The report said the city

population would grow to 55,964 by 1981 from 45,463. (More modest than the 80,000 a consultant forecast years earlier). ... East Cornwall Business Association unveiled plans to rename the Montreal Road district Le Village.

You have to admire Heather MeGill’s spunkiness.

She ran for city council last October (for the second time). Didn’t make it. (Pity.

She would have been an asset around the city council table). She stepped up to the plate for the provincial Liberals in June when everyone else was jumping off a sinking ship. She lost, by a lot. And now the retired teacher who served in the Armed Forces reserve as a captain has climbed back in the ring for another uphill, against-all-odds battle.

Three election campaigns in a year.

That is a lot of time-consuming, energysapping campaigning.

But it is going to take more than spunk to take down the guy running ahead of the Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry pack.

Unless there is an unexpected, out-ofthis-world shift of biblical proportions, Eric Duncan will keep Stormont-DundasSouth Glengarry, a riding the Tories have held since 2004, in the Conservative fold. The question is how much will the former mayor of North Dundas win by?

Probably by a whole lot. Translated: A Guy Lauzon kind of landslide victory could

be in the making.

Not only is the affable Duncan a skilled politician, he’s backed by a well-organized, well-funded association running on jet fuel. The election campaign was hours old and his campaign team had 1,400 signs up through out the sprawling riding.

Duncan came out of the gate in third gear.

And, of course, there is Dundas where Liberals are an endangered species. ********** Former Cornwall Royals star and NHL Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk was getting ready for his 10th season behind the Barrie Colts’ bench.

But midway through training camp the Ontario Hockey League team caught everyone off guard when out of no where it announced that Hawerchuk will not be part of the 2019-20 season.

He has left the club to tend to what was described as a “(serious) health issue.”

In a news release the team called it a “difficult time” for Hawerchuk and his family but that he “needs time to deal with the (health) situation.”

HERE AND THERE Just finished two must-read books on the Trump White House - Siege by Michael Wolff and Fear by renowned journalist Bob Woodward.

Think back to tourist destinations you’ve visited. Your list might include places such as the following: Paris, New York City, St. Louis, Toronto, London, Wawa, Sudbury, Pisa, Rome and Washington.

Next step: List the landmark associated with each of those places. I’m sure you’ll come up with the Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, The Arch, CN Tower, Big

Ben’s Clock Tower, The Canada Goose, The Big Nickel, The Leaning Tower, The Colosseum and The Lincoln Memorial.

That was too easy! And now, a real challenge. Think Ingleside. What striking landmark comes to mind for Ingleside? Think really hard. Then, go through all your travel photos and post cards, then close your eyes, search your memory and ask your neighbours and friends. What landmark does Ingleside have?

I’m sure you came up with absolutely nothing. The following is my proposal for a project that will put Ingleside, my town, in the book of the cities with the top one hundred most memorable landmarks.

Picture this: we create a 730 feet long steel outline of a bulk carrier. The west to east distance between Ingleside’s Bank Street and Dickinson Drive is also about 730 feet. That just happens to be the maximum length of the ships that ply the waters of the nearby St. Lawrence Seaway.

That’s also the length of the ill-fated Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in Lake Superior on November 10, 1975.

That massive outline would be the backdrop for a 250-foot long silhouette of a typical canaller, the type of boat that was the maximum size that could be accommodated by the pre-1957 Seaway locks.

Finally, in front of both of them would be

an approximately 30-foot long representation of the Voyageur canoes which were used before any of the canals were constructed.

There are some generous green spaces south of Ingleside’s shopping plaza. That would be the location of this proposed landmark cluster, plus a few other appropriate items, such as a local map, signage indicating the existence of local shopping facilities, library and a public washroom.

Financing of this project? There’s a limit to the number of words I’m allowed to submit each week. In the meantime, how about sending me some of your ideas on how this project could become a reality.

Veteran’s medals Dear Editor, I would like to inform your readers about two very special medals that are available for our veterans. These are the National Order of the Legion of Honour from France and the Ambassador for Peace Medal from the Republic of Korea.

Our veterans of the Second World War and the Korean War have both fought hard and made tremendous sacrifices, and they

have both won the greatest level of respect and thanks we can give them. The Government of France is awarding their highest medal to all living Canadian veterans who directly helped to liberate their country between June 6 and August 30, 1944.

The Republic of Korea is presenting its Ambassador for Peace Medal to all Canadian Veterans who participated in the

Korean War and its peace keeping operations between 1950 and 1955. Living veterans or the families of veterans who have passed away may be eligible to receive this special medal from Korea.

Williamstown Fall Harvest Festival sees 100 vendors SHAWNA O’NEILL soneill@seawaynews.media

WILLIAMSTOWN, Ontario – As the leaves slowly begin to change in our region and fall is becoming more imminent, locals got into the season’s spirit at the anticipated, annual Fall Harvest Festival at the Williamstown Fairgrounds on Sunday, Sept. 15.

This year’s event saw about 100 vendors, growing from around 80 last year.

“And there’s room to grow next year because we’ve taken over an extra field,” said organizer Debbie Burns, who was thrilled with the amount of vendors and “steady stream of crowds.”

Burns believes that many locals want to immerse themselves in fall traditions, but also sees how residents of SDG really show up to

local community events as they may not venture outside of the area often for handmade goods, and continuously support their neighbours.

Some new vendors this year included a young woman doing henna, Justin Sauve showing his artwork as his daughter painted at the event, candle and crocheted goods, and many more according to Burns.

“There’s some great, great people…there’s lots of talent here,” she added.

Burns’ annual trunk sale is set to take place this November and be bigger and better than ever. Last year, the event raised $40,000 for Rachel’s Kids House of Hope. The event will support the same cause this year and then begin a three-year partnership with supporting our Beyond 21.

“Jacobs and Epping, they were the two finalists last year as well…Epping won last year,” said McCrady, adding that Matt Camm of team Epping is originally of Cornwall, and Jacobs is a former Olympic gold medalist.

“I’m expecting it to be a close game because they’re both exceptional teams (in each division) but you never know in curling,” said McCrady.

Jones came out on top, with a 7-0 record at the Classic and a final win of 6-4 over Fleury.

Epping also defended their title, winning 5-3 in the final game.

The winning men’s team took home $15,000 and women’s $10,000. When asked why there is a difference in prize money between the two gender teams, McCrady explained that female athletes pay $850 to participate in the event and men $1,250. Next year, both men and women will pay the same entry fee and prize money will be equal.

“This is the longest running bonspiel in the world in our…and one of the best run…I asked teams how can we improve and they said ‘you can’t improve the best,’” said McCrady.

CORNWALL, Ontario – Community members were ready to get into the swing of things at Summerheights Golf Links on Tuesday, Sept. 10, taking off in numerous carts after the shotgun start around 10 a.m.

“The tournament today is an exciting time for Team Cornwall and everyone in the community,” said Peter Gault of Team Cornwall.

“It’s a sold out tournament and it’s an end of (summer) thing and everyone just seems to love it. They want to come out and relax; it’s a fun day, there’s no rules and no scores…just go out and have some fun with people in the community and help promote Cornwall a little bit.”

Each golfer was asked to contribute $135 or $540 per team. This also entitled participants to a buffet dinner and live entertainment following the action on the course.

Proceeds from the tickets will support numerous City of Cornwall sponsorships.

“The main thing is bursaries that we provide to high school students and college

students and helping them…they’re our next level of ambassadors and we want to see them get off on a good feat and we look forward to helping them,” said Gault.

Gault also mentioned that everyone closest to the pin on one of the five Par-3 holes would have the opportunity to win $10,000. A Team Cornwall football was also given to each participant as a gift.

Upon completion of the study, a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) will be prepared to document the existing environmental conditions, summary of design features, potential impacts of the undertaking, and required mitigation procedures. CORNWALL, Ontario – The National Coalition Against Contraband Tobacco (NCACT) held a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 11 outside of the Cornwall RCMP detachment, announcing the third installation of a ‘Dirty Money’ investigation into organized crime and money laundering in Canada.

The report suggests that ‘Cornwall continues to be the primary gateway for illegal tobacco making its way into Canada from the United States.’ The report also compares the difference in enforcement of illegal cigarettes in Quebec and Ontario, reporting that the Quebec government has reduced their rate of contraband tobacco by 50 per cent, seeing a gain of over $200 million due to increased provincial excise tax. Meanwhile, the Ontario government reportedly sees the loss of over $750 million in provincial excise tax revenue with an estimated one in three cigarettes purchased illegally.

“The illegal tobacco trade is lucrative for gangs for several reasons…(one being) because the OPP have limited investigative resources and local and regional police services have not been given the powers to conduct full contraband tobacco investigations,” said Ron Bell, National Spokesperson with NCACT. Illegal cigarettes can reportedly earn more than 400 per cent profit in almost any community in Ontario, with profits often used for other illicit trades or laundered through businesses.

Although the ‘Dirty Money – Part 3’ report largely pertains to money laundering in the province of B.C., the report discusses similarities across Ontario.

“Fortunately, the Ontario Government signaled in their 2018 Fall Economic Statement that they would be taking action against illegal tobacco. However, we have seen no follow-ups to these promises. We know the Ford Government keeps its promises and know the time is now to stop the illicit and lucrative trade of illegal tobacco,” said Bell.

Continuons d’être généreux pour une bonne cause COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE DE LA CSDCEO ONTARIO, EST - Le Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO) aimerait profiter de ce début d’année scolaire pour remercier ses familles car grâce à leur générosité, un prix d’excellence Terry pour jalon atteint a été décerné au CSDCEO. Depuis plusieurs années, le CSDCEO est fier d’avoir la majorité de ses écoles qui participent à la Journée Terry Fox des écoles afin d’amasser des fonds pour la recherche sur le cancer. Le prix de reconnaissance vient souligner l’effort remarquable de la collecte de fonds, car en date de 2018, c’est la somme de 150 000 $ qui a été remis à la cause.

Cette année, la Journée Terry Fox des écoles 2019 de La Fondation Terry Fox se tiendra le jeudi 26 septembre 2019. En rappel, il y a 39 ans, Terry Fox a révolutionné le secteur de la collecte de fonds dans tout le pays. Par sa détermination, il a amélioré la vie des personnes atteintes de cancer. Aujourd’hui, avec l’aide des écoles, son message d’espoir est repris partout par la voix des élèves et de leurs familles.

ONTARIO, EST - À partir de 2019, le Bureau de santé de l’est de l’Ontario (BSEO) ne coordonnera plus de cliniques annuelles de vaccination contre la rage ensemble avec les vétérinaires locaux. Nous désirons remercier tous ceux qui ont participé à ces cliniques au fil des ans.

Le BSEO est présentement en consultation avec les vétérinaires concernant d’autres options qui peuvent donner plus de flexibilité en matière d’accès aux vaccins contre la rage à prix réduit. Certaines raisons motivant la décision du BSEO de mettre fin à la coordination des cliniques annuelles de vaccination contre la rage sont les suivantes : Nous souhaitons augmenter la commodité et faciliter l’accès aux vaccins à prix réduit pour les clients tout au long de l’année au lieu de les forcer à se présenter à une clinique de vaccination d’un jour à la même date partout.

Au cours des 10 dernières années, il y a eu une baisse régulière du nombre de participants à la clinique annuelle.

Parce que de plus en plus de vétérinaires administrent le vaccine contre la rage d’une durée de 3 ans, moins d’animaux ont donc besoin d’être vacciné chaque année.

L’Ordre des vétérinaires de l’Ontario a modifié ses exigences concernant la participation du secteur de la santé publique qui n’est plus requise lors des cliniques de vaccination contre la rage à prix réduit.

Il est prévu qu’un nouveau programme de vaccination contre la rage soit élaboré au cours des prochains mois, à la suite de nos consultations auprès des vétérinaires locaux. De plus amples renseignements seront disponibles dès que le nouveau programme sera mis sur pied.

En attendant, les clients qui doivent faire vacciner leurs animaux de compagnie contre la rage sont encouragés à contacter leur vétérinaire.

HUMAN RESOURCES COORDINATOR/ADMIN ASSISTANT The key responsibility of the Human Resources Coordinator/Admin Assistant (HRCAA) will be to provide day-today support to the Regional Manager and Supervisors. The HRCAA will also be required to effectively communicate with all levels of management throughout the organization and work collaboratively with the corporate Senior Human Resources Advisor.

The HRCAA will be the main contact for Cornwall Electric and actively participate/assist in the areas of recruitment, on-boarding, orientation, payroll entry, training, documents preparation, benefits/pension and any other related Human Resources functions. Fame along with many other organizations,” his obituary reads. “He was awarded with Honourary Life Membership in the Knights of Columbus where he served many significant roles including Grand Knight, Chancellor, and District Deputy. During his tenure as District Deputy he was particularly proud of establishing several new councils in the Cornwall area and was awarded for his efforts to grow the Knights of Columbus community.”

Predeceased by his beloved wife Claire, Ron Wilson leaves behind six children, 15 greatgrandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

CORNWALL, Ontario – On Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, Wilson Funeral Home shared the obituary of their founder, Ronald Wilson, who passed away on Sept. 11 at the Cornwall Community Hospital at the age of 83.

Prior to opening Wilson Funeral Home in 1976, Ron Wilson had served in the Canadian military, as a member of the local ambulance services in Cornwall and as a member of the Cornwall Police Service.

“He was a very pleasant guy to deal with,” remembered Claude McIntosh. “He was a good copper, very fair and not a ticket machine. He was always very concerned about the welfare of

the other guys.”

McIntosh remembers Ron Wilson as having a wonderful sense of humour, something that he carried with him into his funeral service career.

Ron Wilson also had a strong passion for his community.

“He was involved with the Optimist Club of Cornwall for over 35 years, was a team member for the construction of the Janet MacDonell Pavilion wing of the local hospital, was a former Parish Councillor of St. Columban’s and St. Francis de Sales Parishes, served on the management committee to rebuild Immanuel Christian Reformed Church after disaster struck, and sponsored the Glengarry Sports Hall of
