“I love this stuff. I’ve yet to go to any Pokémon lure events, so when I heard about this one I was like, ‘Oh my God! I have to go!’” said Annie Durocher, who sported a Charmander costume in the hot July heat. “It’s so much fun.” “I think this is absolutely amazing,” said local trainer Kyle Bolduc, “When I was a kid I played the games religiously, and I always thought it would be fun to go out and catch Pokémon, and now you can.” Pokémon GO has proven to be a super effective mobile game, and a critical hit amongst fans. With many more updates, features, and Pokémon set to be released in the near future, this is one summer trend that might be here to stay.

their families and friends and participate.” The global reception to the overnight sensation has been mixed. Some careless, Pokémon trainers have found themselves in mortal peril as they bolt out in front of traffic, or a moving train, to try and achieve the game’s main goal of catching all 151 Pokémon. In some countries, Pokémon GO has even been condemned by religious and government leaders, but these headlines are proving the exception. The controversies surrounding the game appear to be symptoms of success. For those actually playing the game, it has been an unforgettable experience that has likely changed the perception of what gaming is all about in the 21st Century.

CORNWALL, Ontario - It’s not unusual to find people out and about in Lamoreux Park at this time of year. If the weather is nice, and you happen to be on summer vacation, it is one of the best places to go for a stroll. Add to that, Cornwall’s ever growing roster of events and fundraisers, and it is easy to see why Lamoureux Park is popular public hangout. However, something unusual has been going on in Lamoureux this year, and it’s happening in other cities across the world too. A horde of Pokémon GO players have descended en masse to try and catch ‘em all. Since the game’s initial release in the US last month, the game has rapidly caught on as the hottest trend of the year, and possibly the decade. Pokémon GO challenges players to catch Pokémon in public places, using augmented reality to create a virtual world intertwined with the physical. Cornwall Community Cheer (CCC) decided to hop on the bandwagon this Friday, by dropping ‘lures’ (items used in-game to attract Pokémon to your location) and offering free water to trainers. CCC has operated in the Cornwall for a number of years, with the simple, and self-explanatory, goal of making our community a happier place to live. For Danielle MacNeil and the rest of the Cheer team, today’s event just made sense. “Pokémon Go has turned out really, really huge. We just like to get the community together, doing awesome, positive things together,” said MacNeil, spokesperson for CCC. “So, we figured we could get everybody to the park, drop some lures and encourage everybody to come out with

Code Heroes is excited to be returning this Fall Nick Seebruch nicholas.seebruch@tc.tc

CORNWALL, Ontario - Thanks to a wave of community support, Code Heroes has announced that it plans on continuing its tech courses in the Fall, with the goal of starting around mid-September. Code Heroes is a non-profit group dedicated to teaching tech skills to the people of Cornwall and promoting innovation. Code Heroes began running classes at the beginning of July on various tech subjects such as web design, game design, digital marketing, social media and coding. “There has been such a huge interest,” said

Kelly Bergeron, the founder of Code Heroes. “We had about 180 registrations in one month.” As a part of their extension of the program, Code Heroes is looking for a new venue in which to hold their classes. During July, Code Heroes was holding seminars at the Academy of Learning. By the Fall, Bergeron hopes to find a new location for Code Heroes either Downtown or in Le Village, to be closer to students at the college. Bergeron said that their courses were very popular with the younger crowd and plan on reaching out to local school boards to offer classes to kids more easily during the school year. “We also hope to continue with the Boys and

Girls club. All of our classes with them were sold out,” she said. Code Heroes will not let seniors be left behind by the latest innovations in technology. Bergeron says that she plans on marketing Code Heroes classes directly to seniors homes so that they can go to them. Pushing for innovation is at the heart of what Code Heroes is trying to do, which is why in partnership with other stakeholders, Bergeron helped to form an Innovation Task Force. On August 17 and 18, the Innovation Task Force of Cornwall and Area will be holding a hackathon. Bergeron said that the hackathon is about finding innovative solutions to problems facing

Cornwall. Bergeron said that solving problems and helping people through innovation is one of the reasons she started Code Heroes. “There is one girl who started taking classes with us at the beginning of July,” Bergeron said. “She is a single mother of two, her mother watches her kids while she’s at our classes. She’s taken 10 classes and she is so instinctive when it comes to learning. She really wanted to get into the tech industry. With what she was able to learn through the courses and through some connections that Code Heroes has we were able to help her pursue an online career. She is feeling so re-energized and hopeful for the future and we really want to be able to do more of that.”

vitamin pill! You will be giving your body all of the ingredients that have a direct effect on sexual behaviour. Take your capsules with water, as you would any other vitamin supplement, and after a few days, Regalia C-191 will be working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; it’s guaranteed!

I instantly felt my penis harden and after 10 seconds, I had a full and complete erection. Wow! That hadn’t happened to me in at least 10 years. Obviously, my wife noticed. Needless to say, supper was put off until later. What a night we had! Just like when we first met … 30 years ago.

Immediate Erections! Regalia C-191 acts directly on your penis’ internal spongy tissues. You will react faster and more easily to different sexual stimulations, and the erection will be immediate. Imagine … erections on command whenever you desire. No more waiting 60 minutes to have

During the preparation of documents for Health Canada, clinical tests were performed on men aged between 53 and 77. Find out more below about the surprising results experienced by some of the test subjects. You will be totally thrilled to relive the sex life that you once had in your 20s. But before starting, read the first testimonial from one of our test subjects … it’s amazing! The Best Decision of My Life! “My name is Michael (*) and I’m a chiropractor. Like many of my friends, I’ve been on Viagra for a number of years. It works really well, but at a rate of 2 sexual relations per week and at $15 a dose, we’re looking at an annual expense of over $1600. For three times a week, it’s even worse. We’re looking at $2400. With Viagra, we’re forced to make a budget in order to have sex. Otherwise, we’ll completely break the bank.

Right from the start, when I began the Regalia C-191 treatment, I knew that I had to take a pill everyday, like a vitamin that you take on a regular basis. So nothing complicated. As it’s a natural product with no chemical additives, I could expect to see a reaction in my pants between 8 and 30 days after starting the treatment. Much to my surprise, on the fifth evening, I was making supper when my wife, who was just getting home from work, simply took me in her arms and gave me a little hug.

The next evening, at around the same time, she asked me jokingly while squeezing me in her arms: “Do you feel like a second night in a row, Honey?” To my great surprise, these few words gave me an immediate erection. And what’s even more surprising … I had the same reaction on the third night. I can’t describe to you the amount of happiness that I’m currently experiencing. The Regalia C-191 treatment has changed my life. I now have erections whenever I want and for the price of a simple little vitamin. No more stress over not having enough Viagra. No more side effects. I thank you immensely for having chosen me to participate in the study.” The Results Are Proven and Guaranteed! Michael’s (*) testimonial, along with the others in this report, is the formal proof that Regalia C-191 can change your life as well. The results are proven and guaranteed. And the product is also authorized by Health Canada under the number NPN 80067255. So if you have totally lost this masculine virility and want to regain it naturally, or if you are just starting to notice that your erections are less hard and are achieved less rapidly … the recipe is incredibly simple. Simply include Regalia C-191 in your daily life, as you would a

I had tried just about every natural product for erectile problems. The results were average, but with Regalia C-191 … WOW. Since the 8th day of treatment, I’ve had erections every, every, every single day. It’s fantastic. Thank you. Test Subject #1011 Private Photo*

Without my knowing, my wife signed me up to participate in the clinical trials and gave me the participation certificate on my birthday. We both thought that it was kind of a funny gift. sex. Results will be produced on demand and, above all, you’ll never need to buy $15 blue pills again for the rest of your life! Regalia C-191 should be available in pharmacies in the Vancouver region in the upcoming weeks, but will only be available in the province of Ontario in around 18 months. To take advantage of this opportunity to discover it immediately, complete the reservation form at the end of this report and also take note of the astounding guarantee that comes with the product. You will be reassured of the product’s effectiveness. We strongly suggest that you reserve your treatment as quickly as possible, because in a few weeks, the delivery times will be much longer. If you are still hesitating, night after night you are depriving your partner and yourself of passionate sex … sex with powerful and astonishing orgasms that are a reminder of why it’s so great to be able to perform as well as you did in your 20s. So reserve your treatment immediately. This is the best decision of your life. Thank you!

90-Day Guarantee

We wish to allow the greatest number of men possible to try this discovery. That is why we are offering the following guarantee. If, during the treatment, you do not say at least several times: “My God, I’m having erections like I did when I was 20-25 years old …”

we are firmly committed to reimbursing you within 5 days. This is a formal guarantee whereby, if you are not completely satisfied (and the probability of that is low), you will not lose a single penny. ENTERTAINMENT & RESTAURANTS Local talent shines at Your Arts Council’s first “YACabuskalooza” Mary McCann, Special to TC Media CORNWALL, Ontario - Your Arts Council (YAC) held their first annual YACabuskalooza on Saturday, June 30 from 1-5 p.m. at Lamoureux Park in Cornwall. The event involved local performers stationed around the bike path circle, a “How to Busker”seminar, and face painting. Some of the talents displayed included musical performances, dance, and a stilt-walker. YAC was created in 2012 and strives to encourage art performance in the local community. “We wanted to have a family-oriented fun event that people could come to that wouldn’t cost them anything, that featured local talent...that gave local talent an opportunity to possibly make some money, which is what our arts council is all about,”

explained YAC facilitator and YACabuskalooza organizer Richard Salem. “We’re hoping this actually becomes an annual event, and then we can attract buskers.”Salem also mentioned that he and the council hoped to coordinate with the Ottawa busker event in order to encourage buskers from elsewhere to attend the Cornwall event, but as it was the first YACabuskalooza, chose to restrict most performances to local talent. One of the highlights of the event was the attendance of Montreal’s Mr. Christopher Wardell, standing a whopping 9’9” on stilts, who served as a sense of awe and entertainment, particularly for the children present. A performer himself, he hopes to see the event recur in future years. Upon being asked if they would return were YACabuskalooza to become an annual experience, performers

reacted positively: “For sure! Definitely! Any excuse to play music” shared Amanda Leger and Ryan O’Neil, two members of local band, “Rock Bottom.”“Oh, yeah, this is great! It’s fun. I’d totally be interested in the future” added Cameron McPhee, also a local involved in theatre arts. “I think it’s cool. I think it’s a good idea…Mainly it’s got the variety, which is what we want because art – music – is in all forms” shared Therese Motard, a classically trained cellist who performed with violinist and vocalist Pamela Cumming, and vocalist and YAC member Danielle Vaillancourt. YAC was delighted with the event and hopes to make it an annual function. Quickly ladle some of the poaching liquid over the fish, tightly cover the skillet, and cook for 1 minute. Remove the skillet from the heat and let sit, covered, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the fish registers 120°F for medium rare or 125°F for medium, 7 to 10 minutes Using a slotted spatula, transfer the salmon to a paper-towel-lined platter or plates; let rest uncovered for 5 minutes. (The salmon will continue cooking as it rests.) Discard the paper towels and serve the fish with the beurre blanc.

OPINION

Patience in the service of justice Talk about a rush to judgment. Actually, it is more like a stampede. Or, as they said in the wild west, “Give ‘em a fair trial and hang ‘em in the mornin’“ Less than 24 hours after an Ottawa man died during an arrest by Ottawa police the Toronto chapter of U.S.-born Black Lives Matter (BLM) declared it “murder” (by white police officers). The BLM has become a magnate for radicals and anarchists looking for a place to hang their hats. In the United States, some of these folks have called for the assassination of police officers. It is just a matter of time before we hear the same chants in this country. Then we have politicians weighing in on the issue. The cop-hating BLM doesn’t know any more about the circumstances that led to this tragedy than the rest of us, and that isn’t a whole lot. There is no evidence that this was a case of white cops targeting a black individual, as the BLM wants everyone to believe. Meanwhile, the BLM movement has ignored the slaughter of mostly young blacks in Chicago. Not by police officers but by other young black men and women. Statistics show that in 2015, some 275 black men and women were murdered by other blacks. What we know about the Ottawa tragedy is that a police officer responded to a complaint from a downtown coffee shop that a man was sexually assaulting females. When the officer arrived, the man fled on foot. The officer did what any police officer would have done. He gave chase. (A cynic could argue that was the officer’s first mistake. He should have just let the suspect run away. Second being an attempt to arrest him at the first sign of resistance.) A confrontation took place outside the man’s apartment building. It is believed the suspect resisted arrest and there was a struggle. The man was pronounced dead at hospital. Unfortunately, at this point, the court of public opinion is drawing a conclusion on a few seconds of amateur video and hearsay. Let’s wait for the investigation by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) to be completed. And, if needed, a trial. ______________________

Belated birthday wishes for Reg Poirier, the excellent trainer and equipment manager for football, hockey and lacrosse teams over the years. Reg, a resident of St. Joseph’s Villa, turned 83 in July. Reg became a trainer and equipment manager back in the 1960s after a knee injury while playing for the Cornwall Emards intermediate football club. He became the team’s trainer/equipment manager. Later he was the trainer/equipment manager for Ed Lumley’s junior teams Chargers and Mustangs. He also had the same role with the senior hockey Emard Petros and lacrosse teams. Many years ago, when Eddie Olczyk was with the Leafs, Reg sent him a copy of a photo and story from the Cornwall bantam hockey tournament. Olczyk, playing for the Chicago bantam club, was named tournament MVP. Shortly after while in Toronto I was invited by a friend to Wendel Clark’s birthday party. Most of the Leafs were at the party, including Eddie O.

When told that I was from Cornwall, the Leafs’ star noted, “Hey, a guy from Cornwall sent me a story from the local newspaper about me winning the MVP award at a bantam tournament. Name is Reg Poirier. Know him?” Ah, small world. SEEN AND HEARD: Ontario is up to its eyeballs in red ink - to the tune of about $300 billion. It has been spending about $7 billion more each year than it takes in. We now know that the provincial government blew $70 million on the cancelled provincial pension plan. In the real world they call that bankruptcy and a chief financial officer would be gassed. All of this raises a point: Ever notice that when the chief architects of these financial messes retire they end up working for Bay Street financial/investment firms. A cynic might say that is akin to the farmer hiring the fox to take over hen house security. ... At this point, I don’t care who wins the presidential race. I just want it over. THIS AND THAT: The postal union is caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to shutting down mail delivery across the country. A prolonged strike (more than two weeks) would encourage more folks to replace snail mail with the internet and direct bank deposits, which over the last 10 years have taken a huge bite out of the postal delivery business. There are multitudes of folks, and businesses, who no longer need daily postal delivery. AROUND AND ABOUT: The guardians of public health made fluoride a major health issue but a much bigger issue they might want put under the microscope is the rapid increase in the goose population in the city and goose poop contamination of parks, bicycle paths and sidewalks, particularly bad in the west end. The west-end soccer fields on which hundreds of kids run and roll around on each week is a goose poop minefield. Hard to believe this

isn’t a public health hazard worthy of attention. TRIVIA: What was the name of the highly regarded private school which operated on Pitt Street (between Water and First streets) from 1896 until 1962? Bonus point if you can name the founder and its only principal. TRIVIA ANSWER: Miller’s scrap yard was on Pitt Street (east side) between Fifth and Sixth streets. In the 1950s kids would haul bundles of old newspapers in wagons to the scrap yard and spend the proceeds on a movie, pop and box of popcorn. IN THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR: Back before ‘super schools’ and busing, when kids walked six or seven blocks to the neighbourhood school, rain or shine. Snow or sleet. When was the last time you saw a kid wearing a rain coat? ... When the part-time kids’ jobs were delivering newspapers after school (that pretty much dried up with morning papers), helping out Saturday mornings at the corner store, raking leaves, shovelling driveways or helping the milkman with early-morning deliveries. This was a time when milk came in glass bottles and deliveries were made by horsedrawn milk wagons. ... The rules of the house included having to finish homework before going out to play after school, being home in time for lunch or dinner and when the street lights came on. ... Kids actually played in neighbourhood parks. ... Kids would swim in the canal, at Silver Bridge, St. Lawrence Park and gravel pits. ... Kids carried pocket knives and had BB guns. ... Farm kids helped out with the chores before going to school. ... Bamboo fishing poles (sold at the local hardware store) and row boats. ... Picking worms in the backyard the night before the big fishing expedition. SPORTS STUFF: The New England Patriots of the NFL had 12,000 people show up for the first practice of the season. The Toronto Argonauts of the CFL had 12,400 fans for its first home game of the season.

Time to step up our goose game Hot enough for ya? Editor: The current strategy being used by the City to reduce or eliminate the Canada Goose population is not working. Over the past month, as I was riding my bike, I observed that the number of geese in our area has greatly increased. With that increase in numbers there is the increase in the problems associated with them. Their droppings that can be found throughout the waterfront and now on the city sidewalks and residents’ lawns. One of our tourism strategies is to attract people with our beautiful waterfront bike path. Currently it is not attractive. With all the geese competing for the area and all the goose droppings you cannot enjoy the view while riding through this poop minefield. The soccer fields located in the west end of Second Street is another example of the goose problem. The children playing on these fields have to run through this mess and the parents have

to navigate through the goose droppings to find a place to sit. Disgusting!!! Is there a health issue here??? The City’s strategy is reactive, that is, to sweep up the mess on the bike path and recreation areas. However, that is not effective as I witnessed while riding my bike along the bike path on Second Street. The City has to develop a plan to greatly reduce or eliminate the problems associated with these geese. One of the potential solutions is the strategy used by a golf course west of the city. Apparently, the geese are rounded up in the spring before the baby geese are able to fly. They, along with the adults, are transported to a location west. I am not totally familiar with the location(s) but it is worth investigating. Let’s get proactive rather than reactive with this goose problem. Glen G. Grant, Cornwall

Nick Wolochatiuk The first thing you say when meeting a stranger will absolutely and irrevocably determine the rest of your interaction with that person. So what’s the very best thing to say? Based on my 76 years of making first contact with strangers, I am absolutely sure of the best thing to say. (Okay, I must admit that I’m slightly exaggerating the number of years of my experience. To be more accurate, I’ll scale back that number from 76 to ‘almost 76’. During my first few months of meeting strangers, I was relatively inarticulate, at a loss as to how to initiate a conversation.) Back to the very best thing to say. No matter what the circumstances of initiating your interaction with a stranger, it is always best to start with something related to weather. “How about this weather!” is a great opener. You are not committing yourself to taking a position of liking or disliking it, but the stranger is sure to feel free to vent his opinion about it. I usually show up at air shows the day before they start. To finesse my way through any security procedures, I confidently approach the security official at the gate. If the weather is absolutely perfect, I open with, “You are obviously the one

who’s responsible for this fine weather.” If the weather is appalling, I say, “If you had been in charge of the weather, we wouldn’t be saddled with this mess.” Either way, the ice has been broken. After patiently listening to his input, I continue on my way to the aircraft display on the flight line. If it’s a farmer I’m introducing myself to, I start with something like, “What’s going to happen if the rest of the year turns out like this?” All I have to do for the next hour is just listen. When I crossed the border from Italy into Germany, the first utterance I overheard was “Scheiss Wetter!” From its context, I knew what that meant. For the rest of that miserable, windy, stormy, rainy day, I used that term any time I met with a local. It convinced each and every one that I was fluent in German, so I didn’t have to say another word. They vented. I just listened and nodded. If today I approach anyone with “Just imagine if the rest of the summer is going to be like this.” I am sure to get bombarded with all sorts of opinions. They’ll include, “It says in the Bible…”, or “I can just imagine what my lawn is going to be like.” or “I’ve booked two weeks at a campsite, so…” By the way, what do you think of this weather, eh?

St. Joseph Pool Dominates Synchronized Swimming Competition Shannon Ferguson, Special to TC Media CORNWALL, Ontario - The weather was perfect and the water came alive for the City of Cornwall’s Annual Synchronized Swimming Competition, held on Friday, July 29 at St. Joseph Pool, as the host teams walked away with an array of awards. Kids of all ages from around the city performed choreographed routines to classic soundtracks from Disney, which was this year’s theme. This particular competition has been taking place in Cornwall for over 50 years and this year, teams from all five local pools participated, as well as teams from St. Andrew’ Pool just outside

of the city. Aquatic Coordinator for the City of Cornwall, Lori Gibeau, is very involved in such competitions and said events like these “Introduce kids to something different. It keeps them interested, keeps them active, fit and in the water, and that’s what we like to see”. Many local sponsors helped to make the day an even bigger success by donating prizes for all participants and winners. Alyssa McLean is a summer student with the City of Cornwall and the Aquatic Event Leader who helped organize the competition. She was happy with the how the day turned out. “The kids worked really hard for this one day

Hole-in-one cash prizes, a silent auction, and hole challenges are planned for this fun event. “Live and Learn will use their proceeds to continue to provide their wide variety of programs for pre-school children in the Osgoode Ward. SNC’s proceeds will improve accessibility at various Conservation Areas and support youth fishing camps,” mentioned Machado. “Tournament supporters can’t go wrong.” Tournament Chairman and SNC Board of Directors Chairman, Doug Thompson, encourages players to register early as spaces are limited. “We welcome sponsors and prizes for our event. We are seeking Gold sponsors ($500), Silver sponsors ($300), and Bronze sponsors ($100). To get rid of hard-water rust stains on commodes, tubs, and sinks, just squeeze a little tooth paste onto an old brush and scrub away. Or scrub the stain with a paste of borox and lemon juice or a solution of equal parts of turpentine and salt. Which ever method you choose, attack rust stains right away. The sooner you deal with them, the easier they are removed.

Martintown’s homecoming may become an annual event Nick Seebruch nicholas.seebruch@tc.tc

MARTINTOWN, Ontario - For the first time in decades, the whole of Martintown was on show to celebrate its heritage. The Martintown Homecoming was held on Sunday, July 31 and was the first homecoming held in recent memory. Some of the locals in attendance believe that the last time one was held may have been as far back as the 1960s. The idea for the Martintown Homecoming started with a wagon ride. “A group of long-time residents got together and first wanted to just do a guided wagon tour,” said Ernie Higginson, the former President of the Martintown

Mill Preservation Society. “We wanted to do it the day after the end of the Glengarry Highland Games because we knew how many people come back home for that.” The tour was pulled along by Dale Chisholm and his tractor while Keith Clingen provided the commentary at all of the sites on the tour. Higginson thinks that the tour was a hit and would like to see it return next year. “There were a lot of smiling faces at the end of the tour, so I think they did pretty well,”he said. What started as a tour, developed into a larger celebration as one major renovation to the Martintown Mill was completed in the week leading up to the Martintown Homecoming. The Martintown Mill’s new roof has completed, in addition to some outdoor electrical

work. The new roof was installed by Dave Marchand and his team. Marchand specializes with restoring heritage buildings and has done work in Upper Canada Village. Alongside the events taking place at the Mill, up the road at the Community Centre, even more of Martintown’s local history was being discovered, this time of a more personal nature. The Community Centre was inviting residents to come in and have their antiques and heirlooms appraised and also to speak with local genealogists to learn more about their family heritage. The day was capped off with a barbecue at the Grand Hotel with entertainment provided by the James Heath Band.

Bernadette has been an amazing Big Sister since coming to the agency! She has provided her Little Sister Trinity on the left with a wonderful friendship. Sometimes the girls even have Trinity’s sister Savanna (on the right) tag along on great outings like tubing and zip lining. The girls go biking, swimming, to museums, motor races, to La Ronde and much more. Bernadette has spear headed a lot of great activities for the girls to enjoy and they are willing to help out the agency and other causes all the time. Bernadette and Trinity have BIG hearts and we are lucky to have them in the program!
