1. Take it one step at a time: Ideally, the idea of moving into a residence should be broached long before the need becomes urgent. While your parents are still in relatively good shape, bring up the subject from time to time so they can learn about the possibility at their own pace.

5. Visit residences with them: Invite them to visit a few residences with you, for example at open houses. Don’t just name the benefits, show them!

Originally, Duncan served on the Conservative’s Leadership Team as Question Period Co-ordinator before the 2021 federal election.

They frequently mention their fatigue, their discomfort and their daily difficulties? It’s probably time to have a conversation with them about their ability to stay at home. Here are five tips to help you convince them to move into a residence for their safety and well-being.

What value is there in spectacle? The funeral of HRH Queen Elizabeth II will stand as one of the greatest spectacles of all time, with its precise pageantry; practiced, produced and polished. And all for good reason. Ceremony and rituals can have great value: to reflect on something or someone of great significance.IntheBible, the Old Testament, there is a description in the book of Second Chronicles chapter seven of the dedication of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem, circa 950 BC. Years of construction had finished and now offerings and animal sacrifices were presented. “Fire came down… and consumed all the offerings and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.” This was truly an overwhelming sight and perhaps terrifying for many. The many people there observing spontaneously knelt, faces to the ground and worshipped. Yes, in fear and reverence, but that same chapter also says that they were giving thanks: “He (the Lord) is good, his love endures forever!” Some 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep and goats were offered (quite a feast)! There were elaborate robes, processions, trumpets with great pageantry,

It is good! It can show you how important some things really are. Don’t despair, God is in control. As part of the senior leadership team with Poilievre and his senior staff, Duncan and his colleagues will participate in daily briefings and are tasked with leading the day-to-day strategies of the Conservative Caucus in the House of Commons and building a strong and national Conservative movement across

“It is an honour to be asked by Pierre to serve on his Leadership Team. I am both humbled and excited to return to this import ant role in our Caucus. I’m ready to hit the ground running,” said MP Duncan. “Our Conservative message is very clear with Pierre Poilievre: Canadians cannot face any further tax increases under the Liberals and NDP. This fall, we will be focused on address ing the Liberal’s failure on inflation and the out-of-control cost of living situation in Canada.”

4. Ease their fears: Many seniors are initially reluctant to move into a nursing home. Ask them why, listen and reassure them. For example, insist that you will visit them as often as before.

Staying in your home: Your parents refuse to live in a residence? You can’t force them! However, a health professional or a social worker from the CLSC can evaluate their level of autonomy and their needs. If so, your parents may be able to receive services that allow them to remain at home for a few more months or years.

This year’s campaign, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape™”, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires. Today’s homes burn faster than ever. You may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.

Devcore Group announced plans that read like a blueprint for some much-need ed private development along the water front in Cornwall at the Dev Centre, and its associated hotel and conference centre.Formerly known as the Nav Centre, the property will morph into a complex that includes 2,300 housing units with a ‘linear park’ crossing atop Montreal Road that connects to a…wait for it… waterfront hotel. There are also plans for a public beach, marina, and ferry boat.

The former King George restaurant burned down at Pitt and Second streets in 1997. Only now is there FINALLY some development at that high-profile location in our city. We ran countless stories in this newspaper, including front page photos of proposed developments at that location, only to be later told that the project was delayed, abandoned or paused.Webring this up not to poo-poo Devcore plans – but to make sure con struction actually takes place. We learned some exciting news last week – Cornwall’s eastern approaches are getting a MASSIVE facelift.

So here’s a few words of advice: keep Devcore’s feet to the fire. Request (read: demand) biannual reports from Devcore at open council meetings. This is a per fect avenue to update council, and the community, concerning future develop ments at the Devcore property.

You’d need only one chair.

Cornwall’s city councillors appear to be fully invested in seeing the Devcore plans come to fruitition.

Cornwall, as you all know, has had varying degrees of success when it comes to large-scale plans like those announced by Devcore. The former Domtar property, more than 15 years after the paper-making plant shuttered, still has two giant rocket-like smoke stacks on the property and is nowhere close to being the residential paradise we were told it would eventually become.

Our response is simple – where do we signTheup?announcement was the hot topic of discussion at last week’s Eastern Ontario Municipal Conference, which just happened to be taking place at the facility. Conference attendees, which included a liberal dose of regional polit ical decision-makers and staff, were daz zled with the plans.

While I was striking up a conversation with the pilot, another unusual aircraft, a Europa Classic, C-GNPZ, joined us. After a brief discussion, the AutoGyro pilot agreed to fly me to the Iroquois airstrip. From there, the Europa pilot flew me to their home base, Carp Airport. Those aircraft became the 359th and 360th different types I had flown in. I’m now looking for my 361st…

But the response was somewhere between “that’s amazing” and “we’ll see.”

For homeowners, the tax is based upon the consumption of different types of fossil fuels. For most of us, that means natural gas, liquid propane, and in some cases, oil. The more fuel you consume to heat your home, the more tax you pay. It’s important to note that the amount you’ll pay is set to increase, too. You can see the exact tabled amounts on the Government of Canada’s website along with the scheduled increase dates.

Tobias, a local dialysis patient from Akwesasne, recalls when he needed to travel to Ottawa for his treatments. “It made for an extremely long day because I would leave at 6:00 am and get home at 6:00 pm, and I would have to do that a few times a week. I am much happier coming to Cornwall for treatment instead, and the staff take good care of me,” saidSomeTobias.changes to the clinic over the years have included renovating the unit as part of the hospital’s redevelopment project in 2014 and adding additional capacity to enhance access.

Today, the Dialysis Clinic at CCH administers nearly 10,000 treatments every year to approximately 30 patients each day, 6 days a week; and a kidney doctor from The Ottawa Hospital visits twice a week to support the team and assess patients. It’s been a few years since the Government of Canada introduced the Carbon Tax to help offset environmental damage caused by burn ing fossil fuels. I’m not writing here to litigate the effectiveness of this strategy, rather, on the basis that it’s here, and we should all understand it.

The Dialysis Clinic at Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH), a satellite location of The Ottawa Hospital’s Dialysis Department, first opened its doors to patients in September 2002. Ever wonder why someone with less experience got the job? Perhaps their soft skills impressed the employer. Many employers will agree on the importance of strong soft skills in potential employees. This includes attributes like leadership, interpersonal skills, good communication and work ethic. We often forget when applying to jobs and focus more on our hard (or technical) skills which are job specific and easier to teach. Soft skills make us easy to train, eager to learn and become vastly more important in the long run. The next time you’re attending an interview, don’t forget to show off your winning personality and all those soft skills you have to offer, they might just land you the job!

The Kovinich Group RE/MAX Affiliates Marquis Ltd. Brokerage is kick-starting a com mitment to the environment, helping local wildlife find homes through a donation to the Raisin Region Conservation Authority’s (RRCA) forestry program. The Group marked this initiative by planting ten native trees at Gray’s Creek Conservation Area, a popular green space located in both Cornwall and South Glengarry which provides habitat to many wildlife species and welcomed over

110,000 visitors in 2021.

These immigrants come from many places, including Africa, South America, and Turkey and are very relieved and happy to be here.

Kovinich Group Helps Enhance Wildlife Habitat with the RRCA

Right now, there are approximately 350-400 people on-site. DEVCORE is working with sev eral local agencies, including Red Cross, to help the resettlement process and help people get working permits.

It’s no secret that there is a real need in Ontario (and in our region specifically) for good workers. As NAV CANADA did in the past, DEVCORE has been working with Immigration Canada over the last 5 weeks to receive new Canadians, many of whom are seeking asylum.

A statement was read on behalf of MP Eric Duncan, a long-time supporter of our local United Way, who was unable to attend due to observing the ten-day mourning period after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Other elected officials who attended the breakfast include Mayor Glen Grant, Grand Chief Abram, and Cornwall Councillors Syd Gardner, Elaine MacDonald, and Carilyn Hebert.“Inever imagined under my direction that the United Way SDG would find itself in a pos ition of being able to hand out over a million dollars over the course of one year. But we did it, in fact, we have done it the last two years in a row,” said Craig Fuller, President of the United Way Centraide SDG Board of Directors, proudly referring to their annual report. While he admitted that some of this fund ing came from the City of Cornwall’s Social Services Relief Fund and the Government of Canada, the majority of it came from gener ous local donors.

“The unexplained disappearance of a loved one brings about emotional turmoil among the family members,” the family said, “When a loved one goes missing, the biggest hope is that they will be found and returned to us. When the disappearance is unexplained, unexpected, and unlike him, our fears and wor ries are deep.”

was held at the Bandshell in Cornwall on September 11, 2022. Organized by his sister, brother, and parents, the vigil was attended by hundreds of concerned friends, family, and citizens. Paul has been missing for over six weeks now, since July 29th.

Some major themes from the panel discus sion were the importance of kindness when interacting with people experiencing poverty, removing stigma, and how many of us don’t realize how easy it is to slip into poverty. It does not discriminate. There is not only one path to poverty, and the way out is not always simple.Active community volunteer and former Citizen of the Year, Stephen Douris, shared his personal story of going from being a mil lion-dollar-business owner to living out of his car because of declining mental health.

During the candlelit vigil, Bellemore’s family spoke a lot about his personality, his fondness for candy, his love for his nieces and nephews, and how unlike him it is to take off without telling anyone. They thanked the community

and police for their support and spoke of the impact of having a family member missing.

“As days and weeks go on, it becomes diffi cult to hold onto faith. Tonight, we gather to bring some faith and support to our family who wait in anguish.”

A man takes his dog to the vet. ‘My dog is cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him?’ ‘Well,’ said the vet, ‘let’s have a look at him’. So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes, then he checks his teeth etc. Finally, he says, ‘I’m going to put him down.’ ‘What!? Because he’s cross-eyed?’ ‘No, because he’s really heavy’.

In response to the Scuttlebutt in the September 14th issue; the problem is not just Montreal Road, it is rampant in the City. I walk my dog several times a day. People park on the sidewalks, roll through stop signs, or if they do manage to stop, it is completely on top of the crosswalk. Definitely a risky business to go for a walk in this City. Although I did see a cruiser a couple of weeks ago doing traffic enforcement, at 5:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning on a street usually without traffic at that time. Beyond that, I don’t see the help.

What does the city plan to do about the eyesore at Montreal Road and Belmont Street. The gas station was torn down years ago and a hole dug and then a fence put up. The fence is now peeling, rotting and falling over. Someone needs to do something about this.

While collecting trash at Lamoureux Park with some members of Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) during Cornwall’s Great Big Litter Clean Up last Friday, two things happened. The first was that an anonymous park walker approached us, and after asking a few questions about CFUW, he made a donation to the club’s Scholarship Fund even though we were not fundraising at the time. The second was that we didn’t find too much trash in the park to collect. Lamoureux Park was remarkably litter free! Congratulations Cornwall!

Jane in Bonville wants to know why it is that there are so many “for sale” sites on market place, but no “ Wanted” sites. Please someone start one! There are things I desperately need, my Pulaski with yellow paint on it, is one example. Also, a twin size heating blanket, so I don’t have to keep my furnace on all night...I can’t be the only one who wants a wanted site. My computer skills are still at the Luddite level. So I cannot do it.
