SAY GOODBYE TO LOW BACK PAIN AND STIFFNESS MOVEMENT MATTERS NATASHA INGRAM MOVE THERAPEUTICS
Eight out of ten adults will experience low back pain in their lifetime. Some common causes of low back pain can be overuse, weak abdominal muscles and improper posture when bending, lifting, sitting or standing. Follow long for some tips on relieving and preventing sudden lower back injuries: • Avoid complete rest - try to move gently and slowly in your pain-free range of motion. To find that range, support yourself with hands against the wall and try slowly and gently bending forward, followed by backwards. Whichever direction feels most comfortable, repeat it frequently throughout the day. If bending forward feels better, you can lie on your back and bring your knees to your chest for 20 seconds, 3 times. If bending backwards feels better, you can lie on your stomach for a few minutes and try slowly raising your upper body enough to lean on your elbows. Repeat 10 times, 3 times per day. • Ice can be applied at any time, especially within the first 48 hours. Apply in 20 minute increments. Avoid applying heat within the first 48 hours. After 48 hours, feel free to use ice or heat (whichever feels better). You can also try contrast bathing after 48 hours - 5 minutes of ice, followed immediately by 5 minutes of heat,
repeated for a 20-minute interval, multiple times daily. • Practice good posture when lifting and bending. Try to bend at your hips (keeping your back straight), go down on one knee, or try a “golfer’s bend” (countering the forward movement by letting one leg rise behind you while bending forward). • Maintain a healthy weight. • Try to fit in at least 20 minutes of endurance exercise daily (swimming, walking, biking). • Practice relaxation exercises daily. Lie on your side or on your back and focus on breathing into your belly. Inhale like a balloon into your lower belly and exhale all the air out of the “balloon”. Put a 2-minute timer on your phone for this and slowly increase over time. • Core strengthening. Lie on your back with your knees bent. Slowly and gently draw your belly down towards the floor (away from your waistband) and up towards your head. Hold for 5-10 seconds. Repeat 20 times. Please note this information does not replace medical advice. Please seek the help of a healthcare provider trained to treat lower back pain. Physiotherapists are professionals trained to treat lower back pain and can be tremendously helpful in providing education and guidance to reduce your pain. If you have any questions, feel free to email our registered physiotherapists @ info@movetherpeutics.ca

Cadet Commander’s Commendation
On Saturday 28 May 2022, Warrant Officer First Class (WO1) Brenden Bilmer and Chief Petty Officer (CPO2) Keaton Woodside, two local cadets, were presented with a rare Cadet Commander’s Commendation from the Commander of the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers Formation; Brigadier General Jamie Speiser-Blanchet. The presentation to the cadets was made at their Annual Ceremonial Review parade, held at the Benson Centre.
The commendation was presented to the two cadets for their quick actions, on Friday 16 July 2021 when both were first on the scene of a single vehicle accident. They assisted the occupants of the overturned vehicle to safety through a small window opening, after discovering the doors could not be opened. The courageous and decisive actions taken by both cadets demonstrate maturity and fortitude of a proficient leader. “At the time when the accident occurred my
instinct was to make sure they were ok.” Said WO1 Bilmer. “Being a cadet has helped prepare me for stepping up quickly and making a fast decision while trying to keep safety in mind. Thanks to cadets for providing first aid training, I had the confidence and was prepared.” He explained. The Command Commendation is awarded to recognize deeds or activities beyond the demand of normal duty and is limited to commanders in an official command in
accordance with the relevant Ministerial Organization Order. WO1 Brenden Bilmer is a cadet with 325 Cornwall Kiwanis Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. CPO2 Keaton Woodside has recently aged out as a cadet with 110 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Stormont. Both were presented with a certificate as well as a silver bar bearing a Maple Leaf, which is worn on the breast pocket of the cadet uniform.

In some ways trees are just like people. Some are tall and skinny like Poplars, while others are short and wide like Crab-apples. And unlike some people, who get to live to a ripe old age, no one gets to be as old as trees do, with some of the oldest living trees being over 4,000 years old! When we plant a tree we hope that it will live it’s best life and mature to a grand specimen, all the while providing us humans with clean fresh oxygen that we need to breathe on this beautiful planet of ours. And we desperately need trees! We are projected to lose 30% of our tree cover in the area just to the Emerald Ash Borer alone. Since trees absorb carbon dioxide, they are really important in the fight of our lives - the Climate Crisis. Plus they not only make our city beautiful but help to lower summer temperatures in urban areas. Recent research show that they make us happier - mental health is better in areas of higher tree canopy. It has been shown that a tree filled street can positively influence depression! Sadly, some tree practices that are prevalent in this area and likely done with good intentions, are very harmful to trees and ensure that the tree will die an early death. It is the practice of “topping trees”, in the hope that a taller tree will become or remain small. Perhaps you have noticed this. It is especially visible in the winter months when
TREES: OUR NATURAL ALLIES the leaves are off and one can see the structure of the trees clearly. You can observe that trees mostly have a leader that reaches straight up from the trunk and all the other branches create the shape of the tree depending on the variety. “Topping “ trees are like an amputation that leaves tree limbs disfigured and open to disease and rot. People actually pay a tree company to carry out this harmful practice. This is not like pruning fruit trees or trimming shrubs and hedges, which are done carefully and with a purpose of increasing fruit yields or revitalizing old growth. Did you know that the Parks and Landscape Department of the City of Cornwall will plant a tree free for you, at your request on your boulevard. They have a list of suitable trees, with descriptions and photos, for you to choose from. They also have a Commemorative Tree Planting program whereby, for a fee, they will plant a tree on public land in memory of someone or for a special celebration or occasion. www.cornwall. ca So stop all the topping and get planting!

Let’s face it, Cornwall’s landfill has somewhat of a stinky reputation. But don’t let it fool you — your landfill offers quite a lot of valuable services to residents. For one, did you know that you can dispose of household hazardous wastes responsibly at the landfill for free? Residents have a total of 24 days in which they can dispose of their latex or oil-based paints, car batteries, drain cleaners, poisons, bleach, pesticides, oil filters, empty oil containers and single-use batteries (among other things). These items are very hazardous and it is important that they are disposed of properly. For a full list of items and to know when household hazardous waste is accepted at the landfill, visit the City’s website at Cornwall.ca. You can also recycle of your bulky plastic — like a children’s old exterior slide — at the landfill for free! It doesn’t stop there either. Residents of Cornwall can dispose of up to four tires a year at no cost. Have some leaf and yard waste you want to get rid of? Well the landfill will take that too. Leaves and cut grass can be dropped off for free, whereas branches are $65/ton, with a $10 minimum fee. Leaf and yard waste is composted right on
site at our Compost Depot. Residents of the City of Cornwall are encouraged to take advantage of this program as the compost generated from the Compost Depot is free for residents to pickup! If you happen to have only a few branches you want to get rid of, why not dispose of them during the City’s bi-weekly leaf and yard waste? Simply bundle them in one meter by three feet wide sections and set them out at the end of your driveway. The City’s next leaf and yard waste collection week will take place from June 20-24, followed by the week of July 4-8. Another great service offered at the landfill is the fREe Store. It welcomes residents to pick up various items for free. Anyone can also drop off gently used items. It’s open Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. We ask that you use common sense and be respectful — pick up only what you need and drop off only what can be reused. Staff will be on site to manage the fREe store. If you intend on visiting, simply drive up to the weigh scale and let the attendant know you’re looking to access the fREe Store To view all the services being offered at the landfill, please visit: https://bit. ly/3NkTQqA.

An open challenge to Nolan Quinn Now that the dust has settled from the provincial election that no one wanted, and a new Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP has been crowned in the form of Progressive-Conservative candidate Nolan Quinn, it’s time to focus on the road ahead. Despite the fact that this election marked the lowest turnout in Ontario history, Quinn received a pretty emphatic mandate from the local electorate. He out-performed his next closest challenger, Liberal Kirsten Gardiner, by a more than a 3-1 margin, hauling in some 20,776 votes. Quinn’s fresh election, coupled with former Prescott-Russell warden Stephane Sarrazin who helped paint Glengarry-PrescottRussell Tory blue, and PC cabinet minister Steve Clark just next door in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands-Rideau Lakes means we find ourselves with plenty of local representation that reflects the ideology at Queen’s Park. Clarke, and to a lesser degree Sarazzin, bring with them political experience to their work. Quinn is a rookie politician. While he’ll certainly be spending the summer savouring his first political win, the fact is that Quinn already has a metric tonne of work to do for SDSG. First on his to-do list has to be to find a way to focus government attention on fixing Highway 138. The deadly stretch of pavement that connects Cornwall with Ottawa via Highway 416 was left out of ‘Connecting the East: A Draft Transportation Plan for Eastern Ontario’ that has a mandate to ease gridlock and improve highway travel in our region. Fatal accidents continue to pile up on the 138 and still senior levels of government refuse to act. Quinn must change this. The walk-in clinic at the McConnell Medical Centre is slated for closure. This news, added to the fact that the region continues to suffer from a doctor shortage, means access to quality health care in our community is limited. With an aging population that just sent him to Queen’s Park expecting change, you can bet improving the local health care landscape must be a priority for Quinn. Just recently we learned that local leaders, as well as Sen. Bernadette Clement, held court with VIA Rail CEO Cynthia Garneau to discuss the sad state of affairs at the dilapidated Cornwall station, and to ensure the Seaway City is reflected in future rail plans along the Quebec CityWindsor corridor. Just days after the meeting (you can’t make this stuff up) Garneau announced her resignation. While the news was trumpeted as positive at the time, we can now only think that we’re inching back to square one on this file. Rail transportation is most definitely a federal issue, but Quinn needs to add his voice to the chorus of local support advocating positive changes at the Cornwall train station. One has to think he’ll become intimately acquainted with the VIA Rail service between Cornwall and Toronto over the next four years. Quinn will have support from local Tory MP Eric Duncan. Duncan’s chief of staff, Adrian Bugelli, was Quinn’s campaign manager, so obviously there are some strong linkages both men should work towards solidifying now that both are in office. We expect plenty from our elected officials, regardless of their experience level. Quinn must hit the ground running.

Return of Relay For Life in-person events! Dear editor, For over 20 years, Canadians, including Maxville residents have united with communities across the country to support the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life and provide hope to all those living with and beyond cancer. After two years of a virtual format due to the pandemic, this year, we are excited to announce the return of Relay For Life in-person events! We’re looking forward to safely gathering in person, raising funds to support Canadians with cancer and honour those we love. CCS is committed to implementing physical distancing and protecting the well-being and safety of people living with cancer, event participants, our donors, volunteers, staff, and supporters. The 2 in 5 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime need your support now more than ever. That’s why on Saturday, June 11, we’re inviting all Maxville residents to join this year’s Relay For Life and come together to give hope to people affected by cancer, support Participants of Hope in our communities and change the future of cancer forever. Signing up and fundraising for Relay For Life is the most impactful way for you to support residents of Maxville living with cancer. Practice what you preach Dear editor, Couldn’t agree with you more about Eric Duncan supporting Poilievre. It was a shock to me to hear that, given what I’d seen of him before. Also, what about the Conservative candidate, Quinn, not showing up at the candidates’ debate last Thursday at the Benson Center. Guess he figures he’s got a lock on the job and no point making promises to the constituents that he doesn’t intend to keep. And finally, have you seen the No Mow May signs the city has distributed? While they pretend to be for biodiversity, they sure don’t practice what they preach. Last week, they didn’t simply mow but massacred the large field behind the Benson Center. When this field was allowed to grow, it teamed with butterflies and bees and probably all sorts of smaller wildlife that I couldn’t see. But for years now the city has chosen to waste our taxpayer dollars to mow this field several times per summer, even sending men out to use edge trimmers on the property. And even with their encouragement to us not to mow in May, they couldn’t even wait until June to destroy the flowers! Sincerely, Louise Jarrold Cornwall

Huge challenges for Ford and Company Claude McIntosh Mac’s Musings

Sometimes winning isn’t winning, if you know what I mean. This contradiction could hit Doug Ford over the head sooner than later. While Andrea Horwath and Steven Del Duca limp off into the sunset (don’t be surprised if Horwath re-invents herself as a Hamilton mayoral candidate), and the New Dems and Liberals re-load, Ford will have to grapple with some major issues exacerbated by a turbulent post-pandemic economy. The long list includes health care, education, a bulging deficit, costof-living and housing. It might be bite-the-bullet time coming right out of the gate. As a Liberal finance minister once told her cabinet colleagues, “Folks, we are broke. It’s time to think.” Horwath and Del Duca might be saying to themselves, “Better you than me, Doug.” ************* Records, the saying goes, are made to be broken, but the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) record for most wins by a goaltender stood the test of time until 1969 when a Cornell University puck blocker named Ken Dryden eclipsed the 65 win mark held by Cornwall native Bill Sloan, who established the milestone in the mid-1950s. Sloan, who died May 24 at Canton Hospital
at age 87, was named All-American in three of the four hockey seasons he played with the St. Lawrence University Saints. He went to SLU on a hockey scholarship. He went on to become a professor (mathematics) and administrator at SUNY Potsdam. Larry Keen Jr. said kids of his era looked up to a number of local athletes who set the standard of excellence for fair play and good sportsmanship ... and at top of the list was Bill Sloan. Gary MacDonald, who played both varsity hockey and golf at Clarkson, said Sloan was for many years the face of Potsdam State University where he taught and worked. Sloan was inducted into the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame in 1972. ************* Forty-one years after he joined the StandardFreeholder sports department, fresh out of Carleton University, Steve Dryden will step down as The Sports Network (TSN) senior managing editor in September. It has been quite a ride. He spent two-and-a-half years at 44 Pitt St. before moving to the Woodstock SentinelReview as sports editor. It was a short stay. He was hired by TSN editor-in-chief Bob McKenzie. When McKenzie moved over to the Toronto Star in 1991, Dryden took the reins. In 2001 he joined McKenzie at TSN. This time the roles were changed, with McKenzie working for Dryden. Dryden has a great rapport with TSN’s star-studded roster. The super-talented James

Are things getting bigger or smaller? Based on my experience, I could say yes – and no. Let’s take a look. Here I am, hitchhiking - with my bicycle. It’s usually a pickup truck or a van that gives me a lift. A very elderly1970s Lincoln Continental screeches to a dusty halt on the shoulder of the gravel road. “Hop in! Shove your bike into the trunk.” Most of today’s Lincolns have just enough trunk room for a ‘donut’ spare, not even a toddler’s tricycle. Let’s talk aviation. The so-called ‘Jumbo Jet’, the Boeing 747, first lumbered into the air February 9, 1969. The far ‘jumbo-er’ Airbus 380 followed it by rotating up off the runway 36 years later. The trend was for bigger and bigger. Guess what: only a few 747s are now trickling off the production line. Some A380s are already in long-term hibernation in the
er jets is longer than the line for the washroom at an August campsite. Smaller is in. Let’s look at the pre-COVID cruise industry. Most of the leviathans of the sea are at anchor, hors de service, manned by maintenance crews. The trend is toward smaller vessels. The economies of scale are no longer there, for COVID restrictions are convincing many potential passengers to stay at home, spending their money on house renovations, gardening and fuel for their cars. When we switched from Imperial to Metric measures, the escalation of fuel prices was camouflaged by the switch from gallons to tiny-by-comparison liters. Taken any pictures lately? Sure, but did you mail your film to be processed? Used a phone booth lately? What’s that? Most of the bulky film cameras and phone booths we used a decade or two ago have been replaced by a multi-function device no larger than a deck of cards. Tiny as it is, it serves as camera, agenda, Web browser and photo album. Talk about downsizing!
Duthie gave him the nickname “Evil Quiz Master”. For Dryden, it is a voluntary retirement, rare these days in the cost-slashing news biz. When he came to the S-F, Dryden worked for yours truly. It was quite the journey. But, somehow, despite going in different directions at times, we survived and have remained good friends over the years. HERE AND THERE Tom McNish who passed away last week at age 72 was a pillar of the Seaway Slow Pitch League which enjoyed large numbers and much success during the 1980s. McNish was the league president. Regrettable, his tireless work at keeping the league functioning didn’t get the recognition he deserved. ... Things are not going well with PostMedia. Word has it the profit-challenged newspaper chain, which owns the Standard-Freeholder, will be making changes early in the third quarter (July-September) that will include axing several print editions and making them exclusively digital. The chain implemented a hiring freeze last month. THIS AND THAT The popular folk group Peter, Paul and Mary sang about where have all the flowers gone? These days, employers, big and small, are asking “Where have all the workers gone?” Local job market is begging for employees as positions go unfilled. There’s never been anything like it. One local business hired seven on Monday. They were all no shows the next day. In another case, three prospects didn’t show up for job interviews. ... At the rate Russian generals are being killed

Great things are always happening at the Agapè Center. We continue to find new and innovative ways to support our most vulnerable citizens. Creating new partnerships is key to our success and one of these new partnerships is with Habitat for Humanity Cornwall and the Counties. In March 2022 we opened Furniture Partners, located at 327 Montreal Road. This new social enterprise sells used furniture, upcycling projects, antiques and diverts quality pieces from our local landfill. Stop in and find your new treasure Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30-5:00. Together we are “Feeding and Housing Our Community”.

SUMMER IS COMING! RESERVE YOURS BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE
Early settlement in the area began in 1785 Finch Township was originally part of the Royal Township of Osnabruck, and Roxborough Township was originally part of the Royal Township of Cornwall. Stormont County was created in 1792, and both Finch and Roxborough were separated from their southerly parents in 1798. The hamlet of Berwick was first settled by four Cockburn brothers from Scotland in the early 19th century. Berwick became the administrative home of municipal government in the former Finch Township, incorporated January 1, 1850. The New York and Ottawa Railway was built in 1897 and sent up to four daily passenger in 1883. Berwick remains the administrative centre of North Stormont. Enjoy cycling throughout . many stores, services and restaurants on routes.

Another new partnership was created with First Choice Haircutters. The price of haircuts can be an expense not within some budgets so we provided an opportunity for a free haircut. Thanks to the First Choice team we were able to provide over 70 people with a fresh new look. It was a huge success and plans are in the works for a repeat day closer to Christmas.

new form as applicants were forced to present the best, albeit virtual, version of themselves when interviewing. Video interviews may become integral parts of the interviewing process in the future, as companies recognize how efficient video interviews can be. As a result, it can benefit professionals to polish up on their video interviewing skills. • Dress the part. • Beware of the background. • Use a laptop or computer. • Sit in a brightly lit, quiet room. • Use the mute button. Interviewing via video conferencing apps is unchartered territory for many professionals. But a few tricks of the trade can help job seekers create strong first impressions.

MACMILLAN, Sandra Anne (née MacDonald)
Peacefully at her daughter’s home in Ottawa in the early hours of Tuesday, May 31, 2022, Sandra Anne (née MacDonald) MacMillan of Ottawa, age 71 years. Born June 10, 1950, in Cornwall, Ontario, Sandra was raised in North Stormont, mostly on Avonmore Road, the eldest of Dan and Anita MacDonald’s seven children. After graduating from high school in 1969, she spent a year attending Ottawa Teachers’ College before returning home and working at the Courtaulds mill in Cornwall. She married Ron MacMillan in 1972 and moved to Cornwall, where she became a stay-at-home mother to their three children. Once all her “kidlets” were in school she went back to school herself, graduating from St. Lawrence College in 1991 with a diploma in business administration. After separating from Ron in 1990, Sandra and her two younger children moved to Orleans in 1993. She worked as the Church Administrator at Glebe-St. James United Church in Ottawa from 1992 until her retirement in 2015, making many friends among the congregation. An avid genealogist, Sandra was the MacDonald family historian. She was a keen Scrabble player and often wanted to play her opponents’ tiles as well as her own. She liked to give advice, which her kids affectionately referred to as “Sandy’s helpful hints.” She also enjoyed reading and playing games, especially with her grandchildren. Sandy will be dearly missed by her children, Shannon MacMillan of Cornwall, Amanda MacMillan (Jason Pugh) of Ottawa, and James MacMillan (Grace Chan) of Vaughan. Loving grandmother of Nash and Callie MacMillan and step-grandmother of Dylan Dupuis (Anne). She is survived by her siblings Brian MacDonald (Claudette), Tari Jewer (Gary), and Gary MacDonald (June), all of Long Sault; Wayne MacDonald of Vancouver Island, BC; Donnie MacDonald (Debra) of Avonmore; and Wilma MacDonald of Prescott; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Anita (née Cartier) MacDonald, and by her former husband, Ronald MacMillan. Special thanks to all the members of the palliative care team who helped look after Sandra during her final weeks. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa, 419 St. Laurent Blvd, on Sandy’s birthday, Friday, June 10, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Masks will be required for the funeral service, which will be held at Glebe-St. James United Church, 650 Lyon St. South, Ottawa, at 2:30 pm on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial of cremated remains in the MacDonald family plot at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery in Moose Creek at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Pancreatic Cancer Canada would be appreciated by the family. Flowers are also welcome — except for lilies which, according to Sandy, “are beautiful but they stink.”

Township of SS honours the late former Mayor, Jim Bancroft South Stormont, ON – On Friday, June 3, 2022, Council and Staff of the Township of South Stormont were joined by the family of the late Jim Bancroft to officially announce the naming of a new public highway in the Long Sault Industrial Park as “Jim Bancroft Boulevard.” “Jim served his community well for many years,” says current Mayor, Bryan McGillis. “He was a strong advocate for industry for our region, and we felt it was fitting to honour him by ensuring his name will live on as a reminder of his contributions to our community and our industry partners.” Jim Bancroft Boulevard connects Warner
Drive to the former rail spur line east of the Long Sault Industrial Park. The new public highway will provide access to new development parcels, providing additional opportunities for economic development for the Township. Sadly, Mr. Bancroft passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on December 1, 2020. In addition to serving various committees and community groups, Jim served on Council for both the former Township of Osnabruck and the Township of South Stormont. Most recently, Mr. Bancroft served as Mayor for the Township of South Stormont from 2014-2018.

Congratulation to Candy Pollard and all her staff on a wonderful Saturday at Aultsville the- Singing in the shower is all fun and games atre presenting #SCD Comeback. The annual until you get shampoo in your mouth! recital was once again excellent. You out did Then it becomes a soap opera! yourself with the beautiful costumes.
Did you know that there are over 2 miles or 3.2 kilometers of drainpipes at the Cornwall Square and did you know that there are 2 kinds of drainpipes? Firstly, there are storm drains whose function is to remove rainwater from the roof and overhangs of the building plus any water in the parking garage as well as the surface parking areas through a system of catch basins. Secondly, there are sanitary drains that are hooked up to all of the washroom facilities in the building that dispose of the liquid waste into the municipal sewer system. Most of these drainpipes are hidden from view as they perform their basic function of removing water and waste from the property. Yet another fun fact that nobody sees. Did you know that as part of the Fathers’ Day promotion at the mall on June 17th, 18th and June 19th the Cornwall ROAD WARRIORS Car Club will hold a 3-day auto show on the main level of the mall? There will be a variety of vintage, muscle, and custom cars as well as three motorcycles on display. The vehicle owners will be available for questions and photos. There will also be an
opportunity to enter a draw to win some prizes in support of Cornwall Hospice. Did you know that the next “ART4ALL in the Mall” event will take place on Saturday June 25th from 1pm to 3pm in the northeast courtyard in front of Dollarama on the main floor? Please come and participate and learn. Did you know that if it is really hot and muggy or pouring rain outside, it rarely if ever rains inside the mall or gets hot and sweaty? A climate-controlled environment under one roof makes shopping or sitting in the Food Court to grab a bite a lot more pleasant. You can even park your vehicle in the parking garage and stay dry from inclement weather during your visit to the mall. Looking for a venue for a trade show, Job Fair or a vendor market? The 30,000+ square foot floor area of the former Sears Store can accommodate upwards of 100 booths. The Square Marketplace is available for smaller events. Anyone interested can contact the Mall Administration Office for more information. The Canada Day Mega Mall-Wide 2-week Sidewalk Sale, the first in 3 years, will take place from Saturday June 25th to Sunday July 10th. Watch for our Ads in Seaway News in the next few weeks for all the details. Remember to support your local merchants that make up Cornwall’s retail sector.

The Team of Victim Services of SDG&A was treated to a sweet surprise recently when Tim Hortons showed up with coffee and donuts to say “Thank You” as part of the Tim’s iniative Tims for Good. “At Tims, we know the power of teamwork. Our restaurant owners and donation vehicles are proud to drop off free coffee and baked goods to thank and recognize those who serve our communities. Since 2020, we’ve proudly donated over 2 million cups of coffee across Canada.” —Tims for Good website

It’s time for everyone to re-think the yardage tees from which they play. So often I still hear Men’s, Ladies and Senior tees. Tee blocks have nothing to do with age or gender, but instead are all about ability. Do yourself a favour and play to the yardage that best matches your playing ability. It will make for a more enjoyable round for everyone concerned and provide the groundwork for the best pace of play. Carol Ann Baxter, LPGA/PGA Tip of the week sponsored by
